    I'm not super clued up on the plans but am I right in thinking that the RNLI are interested in putting life back into the pier? I'm surprised the pier is standing as well as it is. If the RNLI see potential in the site then that can only be a good thing, right? It would be a shame to see our prominent coastline ghost just deteriorate and flop into the sea. As long as the site isn't spoilt with new sea walls disfiguring the landscape (like Dawlish), then that's good. However, I still need to learn more about what's going on here. Still, stay fabulous as always Nicola. Thank you. Love your channel.

    • @NicolaExplores
      @NicolaExplores 4 дні тому

      @@50thunderer26 thanks so much for all your encouragement 😊 yes the RNLI have just submitted the first round of planning applications and are working with the Council and the Birnbeck Pier Regeneration Trust. The plan is to reopen the pier to the public with a cafe and visitor centre and to rehouse the RNLI on the island. However they need a further 11.5 million for the project and are hoping to complete a National Lottery grant for 10 million. They have already secured some grants from the Levelling Up Fund, Historic England and the National Heritage Memorial Fund. The pier has been owned by the Council for just over a year after they competed a compulsory purchase order. I hope it all goes to plan.

      Lovely video, Nicola. I do hope you get the opportunity to explore Weston woods. It can be accessed near the top of Prince Consort Gardens by a long flight of steps. From there, you will have a superb view of Birnbeck Pier. As you walk along the upper ridge of the woods, you will see the ancient grain store pits and the remains of the walls of the Iron Age fort. Preservation work is taking place, removing trees which are damaging the ancient structure. There is an adventure playground in the woods, and a path leading down to Sand Bay. You’ll pass the ambitious BMX track and get the opportunity to video some of the aerial work of the riders.

      @@peterkettle8683 thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it. That’s really helpful. I was thinking of making a separate video of the woods and Sand Bay (like I did with Uphill) so thank you for your tips.
