    *Warning* I somehow got glue underneath the “favorites” and “back” buttons and now they’re stuck for me but it hasn’t fallen back in the hole yet!

    Another option is taking perforated metal strip, basically like the stuff they secure pipes in place with (thin metal strip spool with screw holes) and placing it between two screws on the backside to secure the radio controls. No glue risk and it works like a charm

      Did this very thing and its worked better than how Mazda installed it..

    i just did mine recently, dont use glue, use the strongest tape you can find. Cut thin strips, cut with razor, and apply them all around. Only use very little glue where you think is best.

    I keep spilling coffee in mine. Three damn times in the last month. Took it to the shop the second time when the drink sloshed a half cup volume into the knobs and buttons, and they cleaned it, but I wanted to do it myself, then. Thanks for this video. At least now I know how to disassemble.

      @@alsauto2917 actually I might upload my own video to my own channel. The frustrating thing: for all the Mazda 3 console videos, they’re different model years, skipping my GT 2018. There is a Mazda 6 2018 console disassembly, which the trim and form is basically identical but STILL something novel and extremely frustrating about it that I lost skin and some temper in process of discovering. There is a hidden bolt that anchors the Center cup holder to a metal frame support beneath in mine but no one else’s on UA-cam. So. Yeah where I would have had it all apart in like 45 seconds like in your video and others (god bless you all again) it took me like 45 minutes. Ugh. And I used such force in wrenching and yanking the cup holder console component that I bent the metal support before I discovered the bot existed. Anyway, problem solved !!!! 🦋

    Dude helpful , make sure you watch to end so you know what not to do. I fixed mine using existing screws of tray to create supports with couple of sturdy straps. Also the first two clips he removed you don’t have to touch.

    The source of the problem appears to me is that there is no support under the radio. This seems like a design destined for failure to begin with. Now that I know how to take the console off I am hoping to carve a support to brace the radio after it is reinstalled.

      Agree! My radio buttons fell right under as well.
      Clearly a design flaw leaving a hollow space under the centre knobs

      Just use metal strap with holes and use the factory screws and locations. Holds it and supports it perfectly..

  • @dlat69
    @dlat69 3 роки тому

    Thanks for showing how easy it is to pop out the console using only your hands!
    Mine caved in twice. The first time, I used double-sided tape that held for about a year.
    The 2nd time, I cut a couple of 4 - 5 inch Velcro straps, removed the 4 mounting screws on the bottom of the console and crisscrossed the two straps securing by punching holes in the straps for the screws.
    The whole module design and placement in the console by Mazda engineers is just crappy. It's just a matter of time before you spill $#!t into it again and again.
    I keep a can of CRC Quick Dry Electronic Cleaner for the buttons.

    Good video, except I was confused by your use of the term "Loctite." To at least us older folks, Loctite is a thread sealant that helps screws to stay in. What you're using is of course a superglue type product.

    • @alsauto2917
      @alsauto2917  Рік тому

      I see your confusion and you’re 100% correct. It’s more like super glue, for some reason the product is literally called loctite. I guess it’s a super super glue lol thank you for your comment.

    @alsauto2917 - the problem I am having, and this came out of nowhere - is that the control knob doesn't respond to pressing straight (to select something on the screen) and doesn't respond to the upwards press (for example, to move into the different settings). Do you think this can be fixed or will require a new control set? Or could it be a software thing?

    Everything went super easy except clicking the tabs back in at the front of the black plastic cover thwt holds the audio control and parking brake. That’s the part in the video where he fast forwards starting at 11:30. He just pushes down with the heel of his hands to click the panel in, easy peasy, but nothing I tried works. Now I have 1/4 inch gap between the front and rear plastic console covers… ugly but not dangerous.

    • @alsauto2917
      @alsauto2917  3 роки тому

      Nothing sticking? Go to the dealer. There’s a recall on some of these Mazda’s that causes the screen to touch itself. If it’s not the recall then maybe there’s something sticky underneath the buttons.

Everything is pristine on it except for the media control knob the big black center button is tough to push in, I think previous owner may have spilled something on it and now it's sticky.
