Whoever engineered this at Bmw should definitely be fired!
You can put some grease on all metal clips and also door clips( basicaly on any clip in the car) before reassembly. This way you prevent rattles and also if you have to remove once again it will be much easier and with less chance to brake the part.
Two years later and you’re still helping people out with that tip. My guy🔥

Great tip! I could not get the handle cover on and remembered this tip. With grease it went on easily.
Kies, you guys are awesome! Plugged in window switch harness after reinstall, now window switch/mirror control is not working. Bimmerpost had the answer: When you reseat the plug into the harness, ensure the grey handle is fully opened (9:17 in video he opens it fully) then when you reseat the plug, push firmly (not hulk strength) until grey bar begins to move on its own, towards the top/lock. Keep holding pressure into the plug, then reset the locking handle past the top clip. Check the window lock/unlock for the green light. Then you know you have power. I went thru fuses, posts and frustration till I simply reseated the plug. Works great! KIES ROCKS!!
When putting the door-liner back onto the door: Start at the top as Brian does. Just know that some of the clips (maybe all of them), along the top weather seal tend to slide aft, out of place along the weather-seal (about 1/2") as you remove the door-liner earlier in the sequence (about 3:17). Gently push the clips - forward along the weather-seal so that they align with the openings along the top of the door-liner and proceed (about 8:57). Also, the drill bit that he's using must be maybe 5/8" and only deep enough to free the plastic-melted head from the shank of the "rivet."

Awesome video. Tip in case anyone runs into it. My plastic rivets weren’t coming off as easy as Brian’s were and I’m pretty sure it was because the drill bit I was using wasn’t quite large enough to bite the plastic away as quickly as Brian did.
Just noticed this issue in my car recently when I chipped the rubber on my driver door. That stuff is nasty. Good to know that when I am ready there is a quality replacement out there. Thank you!
I spent hour getting the door panel off and i still cant get it out. You make it look so easy.
A set of four for US$125.00 seems quite reasonable. Getting the soft touch plastics right has been a challenge for other manufacturers as well. Toyota/Lexus did a warranty replace on entire door skins a couple years ago. At least we're not back in the bad old days of vinyl and plastic "outgassing" and leaving a fog on the windows and everything else in the interior.

Finally got around to doing this on my 2013 F30. Thanks for the video help. I did notice (to my excitement) that I did NOT have the melted plastic rivets noted in the video. My F30 apparently came from the factory with T20 screws at these locations (I bought the car new, so I know this isn't someone's DIY). Do you know if this was the case for Pre-LCI? I even went so far as to remove six or seven more T20 screws and completely remove the armrest entirely, which made accessing the T20 screws for the handle much easier than working through the holes in the panel. Also made removing the window control module easier too. Brian - Have a look at your F30 "Luxury Line" project car and see if this is the case. That is the same car I have. Thanks again!
I just pulled off the driver’s door panel on my 2014 F30 328i, and both the door handle and arm rest are secured by the melted rivets. No T20 screws holding them at all. I’m wondering if I can install the new parts using screws rather than figuring out how to melt rivets for them.
How has Honda and Acura figured out how to make nice soft touch materials that last but BMW has not?

Devulcanization is what makes the rubber sticky, it's inevitable with all manners of soft/smooth rubber coatings, usually the oils on our fingers causes it
i just did this repair to my f30 and there is some rattling noise, which i believed, came from those replacement screws and their washers. Do you experience the same problem?
Thanks! Mine is all peeled off and nasty. My car is a garage sleeper and has window tints.. don’t use any sort of hand cream either. It’s just crappy material.

I am replacing my drivers side only. After you drilled off the plastic tabs you mentioned some T20 screws to replace the plastic part. My replacement handle didn’t come with them. What size are they? Did you need washers with those screws?
Install was easy, the actual issue for me was that re-installing the existing cover for the door handle won't sit flush with the new interior Kies part. Any insight on how to get flush fitment? I was in a fender bender and my car is actually missing most of the required clips, I guess they just decided to keep them.

When I took my handles off, the two anchor points that the torx screws should screw in to had broken. One is under the felt cover, the other should be visible. It looks like its a square shaped plastic anchor, similar to the plastic anchors that hold the panel on. Does anyone know where to buy replacement anchors? For the time being, the handle is being hold to the panel (not the door) with those 4 tiny screws. I'm sure that if its not addressed quickly, I'm going to end up with the handle ripped right through the door panel.
Wait, where did Brian get the replacement T20 screws to replace the plastic rivets? He kind of missed that part. Are they duplicates of the other T20 screws in the door panel?
This should be under BMW recall, this seems to be a universal problem, first I thought it’s just cos of the heat as I stay in India. But this sucks!

I cannot begin to understand why BMW has STILL not fixed this. The high touch areas of a car (handles, knobs, start button) should be the highest quality so not to deteriorate. This has been happening for multiple generations now to multiple models. It's bothersome that someone had to create aftermarket door handles! I mean thanks Brian but still, should not be an issue.
Agree 100% - they over engineer so much and then this lowers it to the level of a '72 Vega.
This is a problem with many, if not most European cars. All the soft-touch rubber turned to goo on my '02 Ferrari 360, and it will happen to all newer Ferraris as well, sooner or later. Soft-touch rubber feels great when it's new, but it will deteriorate over time.
Does anyone know if the light connector from the downside of the door needs to be on a certain side or can it be plugged in on both sides? I put everything back on and now the light does not work.

FYI: The front clip that holds in the window switch is plastic and is part of the window switch body. You’ll more than likely end up breaking it off out of frustration after spending significant time trying to blindly release that clip via a hole the size of a quarter.
On my 428i, there was a hole on the inside (human side) that was slightly hidden, but it allows you to stick a slim blade screw driver in to release the clip for the window controller. located exactly where it needed to be for that part. I too wrestled with that until i saw the entry way.
Just rented a 2012 BMW 3 Series on TURO. The handles were gross and stained my daughter's sweater. Bothered me so much, I UA-cam searched for the fix. Perfect! A must fix!
I just installed one of these on my 2016 F 80 M3. The process went pretty smoothly even though it was not as easy as it looks when Bryan does it. One word of caution when I used the drill bit to drill out the plastic rivet caps after one was stuck on the tip of the drillbit I went to pull the plastic piece off the end of the drill bit and ended up slicing two of my fingers pretty good so be careful!

this had to be the most over difficult installation yet. besides the diverter valve.

yea my 2015 m4 is sticky, melty and gross, makes my hands sticky afterwards. I think the purell from my hands melted the rubber even quicker

Way more complex than this guy made it look. Took me about 1 hr. Taking off the door panel and the window operating unit was a headache. Thanks for the explanation and walkthrough though!
Just did mine…lost a packet of screws for the new handles. Found them after I had both doors done so oh well. Two screws each plus torx ones in door should be enuff! Great DITY…only comment would be to add the size of drill bit used to drill out those original rivets…first two I used were too small to do the job and one I found was almost too short. Got it done tho and looks great! I did the Carbon Fiber replacements to match my interior. 👍
I have an f15 and need to swap the passenger pull handle. I have the replacement and popped the trim off and removed the two big screws, but it's still stuck on the lower portion. Can you guys post how to remove?
I stripped the plastic female thread putting the door handle back on. Looks like a bushing with threading inside. Anyone know the name of that part ?

Most of the electrical connectors pull straight out. Just be sure to brace the other side so you don't put tension on something weak. Basically everything is plastic so it can get very brittle.

i have a 13 bmw 328i driver door somethimes does not open from inside it happened 2 times i have to unlocked from the lock botton and then it open what can cause that just have 38k miles
Kinda torn between this and just getting the covers that clip on to the existing inner door handles, removing the need to pull off the door card. Thoughts anyone? Theyre cheaper and install in 3 seconds.

Wow I had to take my e46 door panel off and it was secured much better.
Removing the passenger glass controller is not as easy, yeah was told that we cannot see what being done, but it is v difficult for me as I don't want to damage anything. After all, thanks for the video but bottle neck seems to be that thing that could have been explained in more details, already efforts were made and that would have made a perfect video. Anyway, many thanks
