  • In todays video we have ted working with us as he's currently off on half term and he wanted to gather some work experience to see if he would like to peruse a career in the electrical industry . part of the job is swapping fuse boards so I explained and showed that process off to him and yourself as other apprentices may learn a thing or 2 / Any questions just drop a comment down below :)

It’s so weird not seeing you and Nick both together. Probably easier for your mum to meet Nick but it’s still odd.

Great content, Adam, specially teaching apprentice Ted , it’s not easy finding a qualified electrician willing to take you on , or help with work experience. Good on you ⚡️👊

Another great one Adam, you have to watch those Crabtree C50 consumer units with all the exposed live parts. You could have fitted an earth block and used it as the MET. No Maryland cookies !!!!!!!!

just a heads up as i got picked up on it with my NICEIC inspection , you shouldn't liven up a circuit if its unknown , if something were to happen you would be the one paying the price!

They look similar in style to the FPE ones that occasionally pop up in Europe.

Immersion heaters used to be wired on 1.5mm cable, which is what the unknown circuit could have been.
Also your 6mm cable could be ok on a 45amp breaker as 6mm is good for 46amps in ideal conditions.

The only board label recommended now is a 6 monthly RCD test sticker.

Eh… are u not still an apprentice 😅. Should it not be a journeyman teaching the apprentice not a fellow apprentice or am I missing something here? how can you have your own company (name of your company on d.b stickers)if you are still an apprentice or have you qualified now? I’m confused 😅

Had several new circuit breakers/rccb failing in less than a week some on day 1.
Never had a c50 fail so quick the newer ones marked in yellow introduced after the 15th edition regs think they had a higher fault current capacity.
The board you fitted gives a lot more protection good job.
Retired now but fitted loads of Crabtree c50 boards back in the 70s.@@AdamDunlopElectrical

I eicr normally, unless the original wiring is perfect . I normally give 5 years on existing wiring, 10 on a new install. You can give a 5 year EIC too.

Apprentice here please correct me if I'm wrong but 1.49???? Are you sure??? If it's 1.5 cpc it should be around 1.07 and if 1mm CPC 1.6. I'd be putting that as a F1. Only thing I can think of if it's 1mm and you are getting a parallel path? Also bud make sure you put back the main earth before getting you PFC. You want to ensure all parallel paths are in situ to prove the highest amonut of fault current that can flow.

When you do a board change, signing your EIC means taking responsibility for the safety all the wiring that's connected to it, just like issuing a satisfactory EICR. So an EIC is fine - surely you'll have done the same amount of (or more!) inspection and testing to issue the EIC. You may have to explain this to letting agents though. I had one client who decided to rent out two years after I changed their board, and that meant that they didn't need an EICR doing before the tenant moved in. It's not specified in the big brown book, I wish I could remember where it comes from; in my head I know that unless the condition of the installation dictates more frequently, an owner occupied house will generally be 10y to retest, and a rental property 5y. Certainly the government's 'private rental sector' regulations mandate the latter

You write on your EIC form what you have done, your EIC only covers this, that is why it is important to fill the form accurately.

It was a leasehold property, you shouldn’t even be drilling holes through walls without permission from the freeholder, which appears in this case to be the council. So always proceed with caution.

Appreciate the advice, trouble is there are next to 0 opportunities in Devon, just feel stuck, my college wont help, my employer wont help. I'm honestly mostly self taught at this point@@MBSparks001.
was thinking maybe self employed as a mate might be my only option but im told the NVQ Level 3 is a lot more thorough but at least it will be under my own control. i don't know what to do.
