  • Testosterone in women improves sex drive, bone density, muscle strength, and insulin sensitivity. Physician groups recommend women use 1/10th of a men's dose. Is that a good idea?

      The amount of testosterone that converts to estrogen in women is extremely small . . . not really enough to make a difference in the uterus. The testosterone level in men is a lot higher and produces much more estradiol.

    1) Apart from dosage, is there any difference between testosterone hrt creams, gels, jabs, for men and women?
    2) Progesterone is great when you take it at night, SO when's the best time to apply the T-hormone gel/cream? Morning, night?
    3) Because it's not oral or pellets, If you apply the T-hormone gel/cream, say, in the morning after a shower, do you need to reapply after an evening shower before bed to keep it going? 🤔

      Hello! So happy to have found your channel. I'm a 67 y/o woman, have always had strong bones and good muscular development. In past couple of years I've noticed fatigue, apathy, quite severe muscle wasting and sudden skin aging, with generalized hair loss. History of total hyst at age 48 with occasional bioidentical homone pellets every other year or so.
      I went to my GYN to have her check blood levels and she told me testosterone was 11, very low, she said and gave me pellets. Should I regain my muscle strength and tone again? Will my hair stop shedding so heavily? I already feel mentally stronger, less apathetic, was hoping musculature, skin, and hair will improve. Thank you!

      Just to clarify . . . testosterone pellets were only available from compounding pharmacies when this video was posted. They are still only available as a compounded prescription.
      As of late 2023, there are exactly ZERO FDA-approved testosterone products of any kind (pellets, creams, gels, patches, capsules, inserts, etc.) for women. Testosterone for women can only be prescribed using a compounding pharmacy OR by prescribing an FDA-approved product approved for men (which I strongly advise against).

    My doctor prescribed generic testosterone gel, 1.62% (which is 20.25 mg) EVERY OTHER DAY. I feel that is too much, and I am able to pump.a quarter of it (bringing it to 5 mg) into a 1/16 of a teaspoon. I then scoop it out of there and apply it to my arm.
    As a point of interest, the cost has gone down tremendously for the generic version, it's $50.
    I have a question; is 5 mg a day the ideal dose for a woman since that's a tenth of 50 mg (a man's dose)?

    • @SimpleHormones
      @SimpleHormones  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks for watching. As I mention in this video (I think - can't remember for sure) it's possible to use a men's dose of commercially available testosterone . . . but it's not very accurate. The best way for women to get testosterone is to have testosterone compounded at a compounding pharmacy. The "ideal dose" for a woman might be somewhere around 5MG, but there's a ton of individual variation. That's where it's really important to have a provider who knows how to test your levels, prescribe testosterone in the right dosage form, and recognize symptoms and side effects, adjusting accordingly. It's an art and a science.

    • @tuffstuff2U
      @tuffstuff2U 2 роки тому +1

      @@SimpleHormones thank you for your reply. In the UK a "pea-sized" amount is prescribed, which is also "variable". A pea-sized amount to one person might not be the same to another, so it's all rather variable until more precise prescription testosterone dosages are provided for women (outside of compounding).
      "In the NHS, testosterone is given as a gel, which you rub into your skin. It comes as a gel in a small sachet, tube or pump dispenser and you only need to rub a pea- size amount of this gel into your skin. One 50mg sachet or tube should last around 10 days. The gel should be rubbed onto your lower abdomen, thighs or the inner aspect of your forearm. In the UK testosterone is not currently licensed for use by women, so it is said to be prescribed ‘off licence’. Your prescriber will explain this to you. Testestosterone may be given to some women as an implant, but in the UK, these are not currently readily available."

      Transfer of testosterone to children, pets, or partners is an issue. But I wouldn't worry about it if you've got fabric (like pants!) between you and another person or animal. The application site depends on where your doctor recommends. I've seen prescriptions for thigh application and for behind the knees. You may want to check with your provider.

    Sir, I hope you can explain this to me. Pharmacy compounded a 1% Testosterone Cream. The instructions call for 0.1ml - 0.4 ml to inner thigh or wrist. • @SimpleHormones
      @SimpleHormones  Рік тому

      Great question! So there's a wide variety of dosages that a compounding pharmacy can create for you. You're getting a 1% cream, which is 10mg/ml. Doing the math on that means you're getting a dose between 1mg and 4mg. That's actually pretty typical, especially as a starting dose if you haven't taken any testosterone before. If someone else you know is taking 10ml, they most likely have a cream with a lower concentration. The dose your doctor has prescribed is certainly reasonable and most likely will do something for you. If you don't see any results after several weeks of consistent dosing, talk to their office about increasing the dose.

      Some providers I work with prescribe oral testosterone for their patients. It has some benefits and drawbacks. In my experience, it's most often prescribed for women who have a side effect or lack of efficacy from a testosterone cream and who aren't willing or suited for testosterone injections. Testosterone in an oral capsule is only available from a compounding pharmacy. It shouldn't be con=fused with methyltestosterone, a synthetic version of testosterone that's been around for decades and that has some negative effects on liver function.
