It makes no sense that the medical community is only worried about libido and not prescribing testosterone for other reasons. I know people who have cured their chronic fatigue syndrome, and other issues by replacing lost testosterone. We should replace testosterone for women, the same way that we pre-place estrogen and progesterone after menopause.

My testosterone level was extremely low, I was experiencing low libido, very bad brain fog and depression. started a compound testosterone and my libido is ok now but the brain fog is what is the biggest difference. I can function at work again. So I believe that there’s more to it than just a positive impact on libido.

Also I noticed that my hair loss has come back just on top front part but its hard for me to believe it could cause this in 2 weeks. Thinking about going back to just estrogen.

@@carolyn4407 Hi Carolyn, I get it from my gynaecologist (I live in the Netherlands, we can't get it via GP). I use Androgel, which I think is called Testogel in the UK. Just a pea-sized blob every day on the upper leg does the trick. But make sure you're balanced on your oestrogen and progesterone first, otherwise the testosterone just turns into another type of oestrogen. I don't see why there is so much stress about giving women testosterone, our ovaries produce more testosterone than oestrogen after all. And rest assured, I haven't turned into a man yet ;) Good luck! x Marion

Love your channel and so informative! I am a 59 yr old with extremely low testosterone. Menopause was hell and I refused HRT due to a family hx of breast cancer. Mom at 64. My adrenals were zapped and my cortisol levels were off the charts. I changed my diet, exercise and with adrenal support my energy levels are so much better! Now after getting my labs back my testosterone is below low levels and my doctor is talking about a topical support. This will also assist with the weight loss. My concerns are - is this a cancer risk given my family history. Also due to the lack of estrogen and testosterone libido is low, frequent vaginal yeast issues. Would love to hear your thoughts? You are wonderfully informative. 55 almost 1 year since last period. All sex hormones showed up very low on serum & urine tests and symptomatic in 100 different ways including thinning hair & low libido. A year ago I was put on 0.75mg Divigel (estradiol), 200mg Prometrium and 1mg T cream replacement. Felt pretty good including libido but my peri hair loss went from bad to worse over time. I kept complaining about persistent hair loss, loss of volume, more scalp showing, receding hairline, massive change from vibrant hair to dry/frail hair. My doc said weak hairs were most likely falling out and are probably being replaced by stronger hairs after a resting phase. Also was told that peri hormone changes cause temporary hair loss called Telegen Effluvium common, lower E,P&T levels cause loss/thinming/dryness and to be patient because the hair cycle is so long it can take a year to see improvement. Fast forward to now over a year after E, P, T replacement and E&P low side of premeno range and T level very low range and my hair is worse. My temple hairs are all gone, my crown and apex are so thin you can see my scalp. 6 weeks ago my primary care doctor had me stop T and started me on Finasteride 5mg orally daily. Do you know if this will stop loss or regrow the damage that T most likely caused for women like me?

    • @heatherhirschMD

May I ask how you did on Finasteride? I'm on 1 mg of T cream as well and hair loss gets bad when my E gets low. It's like my Free Testosterone flies up and I lose more hair. I don't do well with a lot of Estradiol so the balancing act is tough. I've been loosing hair (probably from T) since 2018. First doc wanted me on Spironolactone but then changed his mind to Finasteride due to less side effects. I've tried to get off the T and get terribly fatigued and just feel awful with zero motivation. No tolerance for exercise. If you don't mind giving me and update I'd much appreciate it!

You repeatedly state test is not indicated for metabolism, weight loss, increased muscle mass but it does in fact increase those characteristics along with increase libido (usually). In my experience creams are inconsistent in delivering the + benefits of testosterone. Weak effect on serum and tissue levels. I think low dose injectable test is more predictable and reliable. Speaking of doses in the 4-15mg per week range of testosterone esters. What do you consider supraphysiological levels of serum testosterone in peri or menopausal women? Reference ranges are typically 15-70ng/dL in many labs. I agree with your stance on testosterone pellets in women.

I am 43, not any perimenopausal symptoms other then a slightly less libido but my mood was worse than usual the period days, like weirdly sad, and I am a very joyful person. I started 2mg cream a day, just this little dose has made a huge difference in my mood, I feel soooo positive than I might be annoying for some people 😂😂 and normalized my libido, I feel like me again and well, my body composition was good but now it’s better, I can see an improvement in my strength levels and muscle gains at the gym.
I tried to 4 mg a day, that was the dosage my doctor recommended but even it increased more my libido, I had estrogen unbalance symptoms in my cycle, so, I reduced it to 2 mg. Oh, and a benefit I didn’t expect, I sleep amazing!!!
By the way, testosterone has powerful immunomodulator effects (in perim. and menopause we have increased risk to autoimmune disorders) and incredible for osteoporosis , muscle is so important for that too

There is more of a reason than just libido. Such as CFS, fatigue, low energy and how important it is to exercise and keep a healthy weight, brain fog and the need to maintain a normal job and lifestyle, unusual fat around the midsection when you've never had that type of body figure (which is not healthy for females anyway) and have a healthy weight

I'm 53, my wife and I have been on testosterone injections for the past 10 years. I got to disagree with this advice. Yes, pellets are terrible. Don't do those. But cream is not good either. Because of different absorption rates it's not consistent. And it's also messy. The best route to go is injections. For women I would start off with injecting 5mgs of testosterone cypionate on Mondays and Thursdays. After eight weeks, have blood drawn to see where you're at however feeling good is what really counts. If you feel no real affect from that dosage, I'll pay a little bit more to 8MGS. Test again after eight weeks, see how you feel. Basically, you are looking for the lowest effective dose, or essentially your particular sweet spot. Injecting is hands-down, the best method

I was able to go through Frontline Alternative Medicine and get full panel labs drawn where I then found out I only had total testosterone of 4 and my free testosterone which is what is usable that is free for the body to use was 0.06 so that being no wonder I had zero sex drive, loss of muscle mass big time, super dry skin, fatigue, no energy and the list goes on. I have been on TRT now for 4 full weeks and I am feeling so great I could write a book about it and I'm being told I will keep feeling better as my levels get stable and get to where they need to be I urge any lady who is having issues like I did whether young or old to have a FULL hormone panel ran as most doctors and OB's will not order a full hormone panel and most will only treat with testosterone replacement if you have sexual disfunction as apparently the any other reason is not good enough no matter what your test say per the FDA whom we all know are full of crap but then you have to think all those supplements doctors tell us to use arent FDA approved either so sounds a little fishy to me they want to push more meds but cant do that if people are well 🤷‍♀️. I tried to get my OB to order it and she said no its not FDA approved for women so I took matters into my own hands and I'm so thankful I did! If you are having any of the symptoms I'm having contact Frontline Alternative they are super helpful and have there own doctors that understand all women need their hormones in complete balance all the way around that goes for estrogen and progesterone as well my other levels are great thankfully Tell them you were referred by Tiffany Griffin and you'll receive your labs for $125 instead of 150 I think it's important to hear from actual ppl and there experiences because everyone's body is different and we can't always go strictly by the text books that doctors use. You will also find many doctors coming on board with TRT for women as it is literally changing lives 🙌

Testosterone is more of a well being hormone in women. Testosterone is converted into estrodiol through an aromatisation reaction. Women make testosterone in the ovaries and adrenal glands. So post hysterectomy involving oophorectomy can reduce testosterone and therefore well being, brain fog, hot flashes and also increase libido which shouldn’t really be the target but there are also studies pointing toward brain atrophy. The dose should be minute! Endocrinology is highly complex.

    I agree and disagree
Although having a low sex drive can be unrelated to testosterone if someone has a low testosterone then they are probably going to have a very low sex drive and them having family issues or other issues may make it worse imho. Total testosterone is not that great of a test especially if someone has a higher shbg and the free testosterone ranges for women are not that good. The ammg says (if I remember correctly) the free testosterone should be about 5-10pgml.
testosterone does have many functions even in women especially with cognition. And thyroid meds can increase shbg which can lower free testosterone
I do hear your point on pellets I personally have never used them because I'm afraid of not being able to take it out if there is a problem. I have partaken in using shots and gels and a nasal testosterone gel (that was the worst form by far)
