    I'm 7 years clean, my wife is 6 years clean. I've been held hostage, lost my son to the ministry, lost the cars, the house, the money, the business, my wife left to a life on the street where she spent 18 months escaping extreme domestic and gang violence. She ended up pregnant and clawed her way out, she had to escape for two now. we spent 5 years apart healing in recovery. we've been back together for 2 years now and after losing all, today, we closed on a home. I run this podcast full time thanks to a bunch of great organizations in my community. I have a life I never saw coming. its possible. It's an epic adventure. We can recover.

      @@PsychiatrySimplified women especially get hooked, not because of euporia, but because of the rapid and immediate weight loss experienced initially. This is the long term euphoric effect, a success initiated with the drug after years of weight gain and obsession with thinness in our society. At least this is what Im starting to realize in my area plagued with meth.

    I've been a functioning user for over 20 years. I don't fit the stereotype often associated with users. I have a great relationship with my family, and my partner and I have been happily together for over five years. I have a well-paying career that I genuinely enjoy. Despite this, I've reached a point where I no longer enjoy using, and I've wanted to quit for a long time. I use to maintain. I use because when i dont use, i have no motivation, no drive. I'm an addict and I always felt that as long as im a good person, treat others with respect, love my family and friends, and do no harm to others, why stop. It wasn't until I watched this video that I seriously considered stopping. Although my health should have been a compelling reason to quit, it wasn't enough until now. Thank you for this video. I really hope I haven't caused too much damage.

      Your story is so close to mine as well, except for a few differences. But I'll start with the similarities, as they are what got me right in the feels, if you will. Lol. I also have a great relationship with my family and pride myself on being a good person. Always honest, even to a fault sometimes. And respectful of every other human, at least I try to be. So I understand where you are coming from, and I was surprised to see someone else believes it's even possible to do those things as a meth user. Thank you for posting. It gave me the courage to post myself. I have adhd and borderline personality disorder, which both went undiagnosed until about last year. I started self medicating at age 13 with hard illicit substances. I shut down and turned into a zombie on cocaine, and was introduced to meth at about age 21/22. Finally, I found myself able to function the way everyone else seemed to already. I was able to organize my thoughts and actually get things done properly. My thoughts were no longer racing at a million miles per second, and I was finally able to just slow down and breathe. For the first time, my mind was calm, but I was also less depressed and so I was more active than previously. It was amazing, right until it wasn't. They took my daughter from me and put her with her father. I understand why, and he is an amazing dad, so I'm not worried about her being with him. But I miss her living with me. I miss tucking her into bed and morning cuddles. That happened when she was 5. She's 12 now. I wanted to stop using after that but couldn't. Then I got pregnant with my second child. Still couldn't stop, and my second child was placed in foster care at only 3 months old. That killed me. I still cry about it daily, even seeing her 3 times a week or more, every week since she went into care. She is 5 now. And still, I can't stop. I love my kids more than anything in the world. I want to stop for them. I dont understand why I'm like this. I feel like the worst mom in the whole world. I dont know how, but I know I won't give up, EVER until I'm clean and get my kids back. So just know you're not alone, and if you want to get clean, I believe in you. Because we all need to support each other, especially when we know and understand someone's struggle so personally. Meth is a hard thing to stop using once started, but I believe in you. Thats all I have to say for now, Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

      How good of a person are you being ingesting a highly toxic product into your body?
      How kind and loving is that to your own self?
      I’m not judging here, I used in the 80’s and 90’s when it was crank.
      Then I switched to crack, then heroin and pain pills and crack. Always had alcohol. Alcohol was my primary drug.
      I stopped meth in the 90’s then picked it back up in 2011. I was in jail for attacking my neighbor in a meth induced delusional paranoid psychosis.
      I got out 6 months later and started back up of course because I’m an alcoholic addict.
      In June 2012 after getting out of jail in January I attempted suicide and was successful, however I was found and revived.
      I continued using until April 2014.
      Had a full on drug induced psychosis which lasted about the first 2 years of my sobriety. It continued to lessen but ultimately lasted about 5 years.
      Symptoms and behaviors Exactly similar to paranoid schizophrenia.
      The main symptoms, hearing voices, severe paranoia mostly went away in the first 2 years sober but the paranoia and other symptoms like severe depressions, suicidality, anxiety etc continued for about 5 years total.
      It was awful. I was in flight response at all times and constantly in fear.
      I’m 10 years sober now but there’s still a lot of residue consequences.
      Lack of pleasure, still have severe depressions, anxiety and every so often paranoid thoughts.
      I hope you find your way out.
      I have a very big toolbox in dealing with life now as a sober person which includes 12 step groups, meditation, healthy diet, exercise etc and I have to use them all in different degrees most everyday.
      The damage has been done. It’s irreversible at this point. Today’s meth is so toxic by comparison to the biker dope of the 80’s and 90’s.
      I was psychotic most of the time and dangerous ultimately.
      Anedonia (wrong spelling) where little to no please can be experienced without the drug seems to be a consequence.
      I have occasional pleasure from things but mostly I’m kinda just waiting to die.
      I wish I’d never done this garbage.
      It really did f**k me up and I see the effects everywhere in my city. Tweekers be out there tweekin.
      I worked on an acute crisis unit for our state mental hospital for a couple years and lots and lots of meth psychosis, often times permanently.
      So sad.

    • @PsychiatrySimplified
      @PsychiatrySimplified  8 місяців тому +3

      Generally the aim is to help with functioning. So it’s a touch question to answer as it depends on the condition, severity and aims of treatment. For some medication is needed as it helps them function better ; for others they need it for an episode and then are able to come off. A risk benefit analysis ultimately. Try the nightmares hyperarousal , hypervigilance , anxiety etc - have a listen to the video on clonidine / prazosin ( evidence based in nightmares and hypervigilance as part of ptsd etc) . Usually this is mediated by noradrenergic activity and the medications such as sertraline, Mirtazapine and low dose quetiapine do not address that component. Ps not medical advice. I will be releasing a video on the difference between anxiety , hyperarousal and agitation soon.

      Interesting. In Europe, we dont have methamphetamine, or people who would use that, so meth scene = 0, However we have lighter version, amphetamine, and not pure, very, very, very deluted with non-toxic chemicals, and its cheap af, if that makes any sence. We name it "speed". Almost everybody aged 20 to 50 have tried it ot used it lightly in some moment or period in life, its drug, and yeah, stimulant/euphoric, but nothing even remote similar to meth. Ive used it for a few months non-stop like a decade ago, and i just stop using, without any craving, slept most of the next week, like i was on sleep meds, and after that week, ive been same, like have never used it before. Nowadays i sometimes (like few times per year) take it with much younger people, when i'm feeling exhausted, or simply tired beyond resonable measure - but should stay awake. And it has effect for few hours - one line (snorted) circa 0.3 grams. After that, you fall asleap whatever. Its so week in comparasion to what people say abouth meth, and noone looks like methhead on "speed" even if abusing it like a f'ing spoiled smallminded brat.

  • @PeterTheOstrich

    I did meth like 7 years ago by accident (was supposed to be adderall) and I still think about the experiences I had with it almost everyday. I think it leaves a permanent mark on your neurochemistry. I took it orally, so it's not like I smoked or injected it, but even then the "rush" or come-up right when the dose is hitting your brain is just unpronounceably amazing. It's close to if not the most extreme feeling of sheer euphoria the human brain is capable of producing. It feels very, very, "red", if that makes sense. Just vibrating red with tingly pleasure head to toe, eyes uncontrollably rolling back, tongue and jaw spazzing out all over the place; the initial rush just fucking melts you and reduces life to one desirable outcome: to get that rush again and again and again. It's just such an unbelievably sweet feeling, it literally feels like a deluge of dopamine, it is exactly like that (I think meth also affects serotonin as well, though).
    Meth just tricks your brain into squeezing out all of its fun juices in one fell swoop. It feels really good, but you won't want to do anything else but it again. Everything else is subservient to that feeling. Even just typing this out makes me shake a bit and feel panicky because it is actually super hard to control yourself around that stuff to the point where your body will move on its own while you just watch behind your eyes. I can only recommend doing it if you're about to die or something, and even then probably not a good idea because it's just too carnal a feeling it's kind of gross. I'm not a moralizer by any means but going cross-eyed with dumb pleasure just kind of feels wrong and I don't think you'd want your last memories to be tainted by such a reductionistic experience.

    I took meth for 2 years, started at a relatively young age (from age 17 to 19), I'm typically an introvert, having taken meth. I felt more social and alive than ever, in a way I did wish that I could be like that, but at the same time was always content in a sense with being an introvert because I enjoyed how introspective I could be.
    But with meth, I felt like I could manage being extremely introspective and social, it felt like a perfect balance, a seeming unity of opposites into perfect harmony.
    But the more I got into it, the more I realized how trivial, transient and illusionary this new sense of "self" that I discovered, it created a rift between who I truly was and who I wanted to be (a projection of a fake sense of self from it).
    It felt like a tragedy in its own right, because the drug consumed my soul (metaphorically speaking), it made me feel like I needed it exist as the "perfect me" that I strive to be. I came to realize how small it made me and how I became fundamentally weaker to a point where I couldn't persist without a mere substance like it.
    Excluding even that, I would occasionally go through intense crash downs from it, sometimes not sleeping for 3 days, it caused a significant toll on my heart, I've had few cardiovascular episodes that almost killed me, minor heart attacks and so forth, it made my preexisting anxiety worse, I even lost weight and my family started to notice and wondered what was wrong, one day my mother asked me "what went wrong with me", it's almost as if she could tell I was completely miserable because of this drug, it was then that I decided to wake up and quit (Well that and including the fact that it was taking a heavy toll on my heart).
    After having quit it, my anxiety grew worse, I started having panic attacks months even after taking it, it felt like flash backs of me almost dying were being replayed when I tried to sleep, which would trigger my anxiety and create another panic attack.
    A year later, I've decided to quit every drug I've ever taken, I quit the last one which was weed a few weeks ago, unfortunately it is in a way a little late, because now I'm on chronic for hypertension and congestive heart failure.
    My anxiety is still causing me a few problems in my daily routine, but the beta blockers I happen to take (atenolol) work great against cardiovascular diseases and anxiety simultaneously.
    The bottom line is, these videos aren't myths, they describe exactly what the drug does albeit from a technical standpoint, if you find it hard to quit this substance, I suggest you seek help immediately before it's too late, before it consumes you.
    It's almost never too late, but it can be when it comes to amphetamines, best of luck in your journey towards a greater sense of discipline, may god be with you.

    • @KiwikimNZ
      @KiwikimNZ 6 місяців тому +3

      I don’t know if it never gets better, I think there is a reason why we take drugs in the first place. Once you are off a drug like meth, you not only still have the underlying cause/trauma/depression/insecurities…. But once off taking a drug like this, due to a society that makes a user so wrong and so bad, or if to support your habit you do things you normally wouldn’t do or regrets of wasting so much time in addiction, you are then left with so much regret and shame. I feel this is why it is so hard after getting clean from meth. Alcoholics for example are not judged like someone who has been on meth for years, it’s easier for them to seek treatment, employment and they are congratulated and supported and can talk openly of their struggles without the stigma. This is the problem I feel. Most people who take meth do so because they feel like shit and for the first time they are opened to a new world of feeling confident, happiness, energy, it’s like they are free from feeling so horrible. So why wouldn’t you want to take something that makes you feel better, then addiction comes in, a tolerance and the next thing you know your in deep. Everyone thinks they got control over it. Don’t be hard on yourself. We have one life and some of us have a rough deal. I think it’s all about gratitude. I bet those who are clean, still struggle, but life is better than hanging with people that rip you off, the daily grind to find money to pay for your habit then the chase to get your fear. I bet they feel relief that they are not lining that life anymore. Sure they fucked up, but no one intentionally wants or chooses to be an addict. Everyone has their poison, some are addicted to work, spending money, excercise, alcohol, cigarettes, sex, you name it, so people should not judge. No one has walked in your shoes, or know your story. Let them be closed minded and you worry about what it is that you want out of life and go find that path. I know it’s hard, I know if you don’t have it you feel like crap, I know the urge is so strong you can’t control it, but there is a way if you dig deep enough and you are worthy or living a healthier life. I wish you all the best I really do and it makes me extremely angry that society has got this whole thing wrong and people are set up to fail. The war on drugs doesn’t help and the mentality out there is so closed minded. You are a human being who deserves help and deserves respect to be treated fairly and with respect. You will get there, but change is scary. It’s easy living doing what we know. But you will come to a point when you have had enough, and when that day comes when you are sober again, then there is more work ahead of you and that work is to learn to accept that you made the choices that you did, look forward, forgive yourself, forgive others, live with love in your heart and love for yourself. Self love is huge man, once you have it, you find so much peace. ❤ all the best xx

I'd really appreciate whether you've encountered cases, or in your professional opinion, whether one time use only is sufficient to induce long-term change in cognitive functioning, such as in prefrontal executive functioning or say heightened default mode network functioning (so called mind wandering) - or that actually such long term effects really only occur after chronic use? If I support a first-time novice user who happened to snort the crushed crystals, we wondered about this particular question and if differential effects can be observed long-term as a result of a single session use.

    As someone who HAS "experimented " with maybe every substance known to man (in one way or another), YET have only fell "slave to the grind" after two decades of weekend warrior mentality with good ole Foxy Roxy...I wonder, have YOU personally EVER indulged in any substance and fallen into the "abuse pattern"? There’s an extremely high likelihood that you have methamphetamine induced schizophrenia. You could’ve already been prone to the condition, or specially if you had it before you ever tried meth, the methamphetamine would’ve profoundly exacerbated schizophrenia. My brother never had symptoms of schizophrenia, but use meth for five years and now has to be medicated to prevent him from becoming psychotic because he now is a schizophrenic with methamphetamine and schizophrenia, which is permanent.

    Anyone and everyone needs to have self control no matter what you're doing in life. I will not advocate for meth use for anyone, but I believe the major fault lies in people's ability to forget that they still need to eat, drink, find nutrition, and if you know your brain is working overtime then feed it sugars... If you don't eat, take vitamins... Do not let yourself go. One day you will move past it or overcome it and until then take care of yourself. Do NOT let a thing overcome you. Remember you're eternal and this life is just teaching you how to be who you really are... Most people find out a LOT of things about themselves they don't like or aren't okay with and if they have already went that far then the only choice they have left is to choose life and remove all those things they know they aren't or don't want to be. People like to say, "do the drug, don't let it do you" , but once you've crossed that line and you know it's winning you have to make a choice... Fuck videos and speeches... Find yourself and get the fuck out of there. Iykyk

      Buddy, I’m not sure if you actually watched the entire video, but there’s a very specific part in it that discusses how after a certain amount of methamphetamine use making rational choices which requires the pre-frontal cortex literally goes out the window as it becomes diverted and goes off-line more or less.
      Obviously, the point at which that occurs will be different for everyone because everyone’s brain is different, but most importantly everyone’s use is different. It can be as simple as you’re stating in the beginning, but you’re pretending that what you’re saying applies to everyone which it certainly doesn’t and it certainly has nothing to do with just get a grip on yourself lol
      The amount of massive comments of advice on this video, like people writing books of texts like yours is hilarious to me because it’s pretty obvious y’all are tweaking.

      @PsychiatrySimplified  8 місяців тому +3

      The brain after an injury, even in traumatic brain injury, undergoes a process of neuroplasticity and neurogenesis. with abstinence from methamphetamine a similar process likely occurs, and this is borne out in evidence where users that have ceased Methamphetamine use show recovery in cognitive domains, but also from any other individuals, relapses of psychosis or other psychiatric disorders cease which is an indication of the brain, reaching homeostasis. One thing in clinical practice that I’ve realised is Even individuals with significant brain atrophy as part of the neuro degenerative conditions, I’ve seen significant improvements in functioning once stability is achieved in terms of adequate sleep diet, nutrition, exercise and general mental health well-being. Whilst we don’t know the exact reasons for this it’s amazing how much the brain can compensate, and this is most likely due to the processes of neurogenesis, a neuro plasticity. We’ve done a video neuro plasticity on this channel so please do check that one out.

      I’m so so sorry. That’s incredibly hard. My nephew was the same and it took my sister years to break off her relationship with him, for her own mental health. He’s been in prison times times now. I think meth just like other drugs, affects each individual differently. The problem with meth is that people don’t sleep or eat and that’s where things go horribly wrong, as well as the cost, so people commit crime to afford it, their irrational thinking goes down the toilet, the stigma associated with it. I also believe that there could be a mental health issue which is underlying with your son, which has been exacerbated by the drug. It’s incredibly sad. I’ve known people on this drug for years who still hold down jobs, own a home, have never broken the law and are nicer on it than if they drank alcohol. As a society we need to change the way in which we view addiction and especially meth addiction. The shame these people feel is incredible, the stigma keeps them from reaching out to family for help or health professionals in the first place due to the negative reaction that comes with meth addiction. We need to educate people on this a lot more. I’m
      Very sorry you have lost your son to his addiction, it can be worse than a physical
      Loss in some sense. Keep yourself protected from being hurt, but try not to give up on him. He has no one and fighting addiction alone isn’t easy. I hope that while he is in prison he will at least get clean long enough to be able to have time to think and maybe better choices are made when he gets out. That’s really hard and I’m so so sorry you must feel very alone too and thank you for sharing and being vulnerable in opening up! The stigma of this drug also affects how you must feel and how others must view you, your parenting etc,its ignorance. I couldn't keep watching and listening to his rages and rambling as well as vomiting over the side of his car. Often he'd be gone for a few days but come back raging and breaking stuff. I emailed his elderly father with resources for unhoused etc..nothing but a thank you..fast forward I started calling our mental health outreach..they could do nothing. His car incinerated in front of brand new neighbor's house. So now he's back on their property but still not allowed upstairs. He has said threatening things to me . sometimes he's unintelligible. They have an illegal trailer right on the other side of my patio closest to my home. From this he terrorized my home for 4 days straight but also has eruptions frequently or just pollutes my peace with violent and offensive rambling to himself..I cannot get the father to remove him from this spot which is also in a lot of vegetation and outdoor storage ( hoarding)..he says I can 51/50 him and he understands, but it's not that easy. I filed a police report now for his threats..
      I've known this man when he has been kind and maybe not using. It's very sad.
      I'm at my wits end..if I could even 51/50 him he'd be out and angrier..it's been relatively quiet since Sunday afternoon when I filed a police report..(police did not make contact with him but his family probably knows) when the police were here he was really going off so he could be heard way up on the street.
      After watching this knowing his father isn't going to do anything for him I know the pattern will continue..also, I should add he has an arrest for battery and trying to disarm a police officer..seems he thought he lived in the house below them. He was in jail for a year and I believe returned before the RO was over. I think my only option is to go file a restraining order at this point.

    I did meth maybe a couple of dozen times before and the highs were exactly as everyone describes, for hours on end. The main reason i think why i didnt become addicted were because of the hellish downers that would begin to kick in about halfway through a session, with no sleep. Eventually my brain would just overload with too much stimuli and i would need to sleep but was wide awake. Such a nightmare the images i would see. Then even after i got the sleep, i would have a two week downer, with exhaustion, poor balance, a constant static noise in my head, and a general feeling that my soul had been snatched from me. But then i would do it again. With booze and coke too even.
    The last time i did it was a year and a half ago where i had the same terrible downer but it didnt disappear as usual two weeks later. It just got worse and it felt like the world was a distant computer game. The brain fog was horrendous and i had to lay in bed for an hour after i woke up every day just to come to my senses. My balance was bad and i even had to stop drinking and anything else, because one sip would trigger my anxiety and a paranoid, confused state. Now even if i stay up longer than 8 hours it always feels like part of my brain wants to shut down or like im on the brink of epilepsy or narcolepsy, so i have to sleep or i'll lose my mind. I can never think straight because i have constant brain fog and cannot stay focused. Even though i havent touched drink or drugs for a year and a half it keeps getting gradually worse, like i have alzheimers, despite being in my 30s. Im out of solutions except for a final one.

    My life was destroyed bc of crack, crack is by far the most addictive and euphoric stimulant, and the most expensive, you will never have any leftover and you will never have any money and you will be so weird and everyone can tell.
    Most people i know that have tried an array of drugs will say "meth doesnt really get you high" they are exaggerating slightly bc you have motivation and youre not too messed up to get things done and the buzz feeling is very weak and i have to agree, i first did meth for a week, i stayed up first night then let myself sleep for a few hours each day after that, it was enough to tale the edge off and it got me off of crack and saved my life and i didnt have any huge cravings after, also importantly i wanted to quit, being a crackhead is not something you miss being, from the first hit of crack you are trying not to do anymore but cant help it
    I smoked (never snorted it or ate it ever) after that over the next couple years bc its fun to get a lot done around the house or be obsessive with a hobby like a musical instrument or fixing a car, my life is back on track and i would argue significantly more than it was previous to crack years, 3.5g lasts a very long time, 1-2 weeks and its so cheap, it pays for itself and then some if you do more production at a job or side hustle like i did, didnt need to do it everyday like hard drugs, i sleep everynight at least 4-5 hours minimum, very very very rarely let myself stay up an entire two and a half days straight, if you do that you start to get weird, as anyone on or off drugs would, ive cut back/out smoking cigs and weed and booze, i eat well everyday, and i feel theres no hangover when you sleep on it, it in fact has almost an anti hangoger effect like Adderol where you wake up ready to go, however if i dont do it for 2 days i def get some longer sleeps in for the next few days, keeping my mind occupied let me go to bed some days realizing i didnt smoke any or even think about it
    Some of the stories in these comments make me feel as though people have placeboed their brain into having such intense experiences
    There could also be something to never ingesting it and only smoking it, but meth feels like "pussy shit" (pardon my french) when it comes to druga, esp when you can smoke todays weed and be so fucking high you cant make it to the car let alone drive
    But like all drugs, its been shown over and over again that its case by case, especially when youre open minded and dont have the expectations some have, some suck at taking certain drugs and let it become their master, some do them like a champion, some die from them, some go on living from them, some get lazy, others get motivated , some get weird, some find their personalities, some ruin their lives, some use it to succeed, some make the best art and music ever done
    I quit for a year or so twice, currently sober but kinda feel like getting some just for the fuck of it, so i might
    This is all one case of use, dont let my story alone affect your decision making, i could be a one out of a hundred, listen to this doctor not me, i dont condone letting drugs into anyones life, youre better off never opening the door and risking anything you have

    Hello Dr. I've been using crystal meth for about 3 yrs. It started during the second year of the pandemic. For what I've seen, I would say I'm not the typical user, I don't use it in a sexual manner, I don't skip meals, I take vitamins and supplements such as NAD, NAC, Resveratrol, Magnesium etc. I also don't deprived myself from sleeping. I only use it when I'm home, if a go on a vacation I dont use it at all, and honestly i don't feel the "need" of using.
    But I really want to stop! Any advice on how to stop it?

      @PsychiatrySimplified  8 місяців тому +2

      It's very difficult to provide specific advice. However a multi-pronged approach can help. 1. An assessment to rule out underlying conditions for which a person may be using w.g depression, adhd etc 2. Treating the underlying conditions 3. Addressing the pathophysiology of craving and triggers through medications and psychological strategies. E.g Bupropion and naltrexone, or clonidine to reduce stress response and improve sleep - ps not advice 4. Removal of environmental triggers as much as possible ( this prevents the lever from being constantly pressed) 5. Specific psychological inteveentions and family support. These are some options that can be combined. Wish you well

      The word brain damage is probably not the best term clinically or scientifically as it signifies a catastrophic irreversible outcome. In general even with chronic users recovery is possible. So while there are brain changes with single use - this does not signify damage.

    what would you say about people who are prescribed amphetamines for adhd?

    • @PsychiatrySimplified
      @PsychiatrySimplified  8 місяців тому +1

      Amphetamines that are prescribed for ADHD when prescribed to the correct dose are safe; however, they need ongoing monitoring for BP, anxiety insomnia or weight loss. Recent study has shown that pharmacotherapy for ADHD reduces all cause and unnatural cause mortality. Amphetamines, when Misused even when prescribed for example, taking higher doses than recommended can be harmful. Similarly, if amphetamines result in significant agitation that is usually a clue, the dose adjustments are needed and that it is impacting the individual negatively. ADHD is a lifespan condition and therefore dose adjustments are common through the course of treatment. Also extended release amphetamines are preferred to immediate release amphetamines as they prevent the dopaminergic surges that can be associated with oxidative stress and in extreme cases, neuronal toxicity. there are times when small doses of immediate release, maybe needed along with the extended-release formulations however, if possible, extended-release formulations should be considered as the mainstay in longer-term treatment.

    Meth makes me feel very energised and more "in the moment". The euphoria however is quite mild. I really don't know why I do it because it's so harmful.

      With this comment you reveal a pleasure from cruelty that I would think you'd want to keep hidden. What I find funny is that the premise you're not so subtly alluding to is that there is no benefit or upside to using meth. Which would really demonstrate the true suffering of habitual meth users. I'm sure that you justify this unsettling lack of empathy by putting emphasis on individual choice. But if there were no upside as you obviously know, how could anyone possibly choose this life willingly?
      If it were me, I'd have to really consider who I am inside, and if that's the type of person who finds pleasure in the suffering of others, and whether that's part of me I'd want to display for the world.

    If it did damage to the brain how can you fix that?

    • @PsychiatrySimplified
      @PsychiatrySimplified  2 місяці тому

      This is a difficult one to answer on a comment section.
      First it needs an understanding of what ‘damage’ is? I.e the symptoms of behaviours that are being expressed. Based on this one goes through an evaluation where one looks at
      1. Medical aspects ( may include scans)
      2. Substance related aspects - current craving, amount of use etc
      3. Paychotic symptoms or emotional dysregulation or impulse dyscontrol
      4. Sleep
      5. Activity, cognitive and emotional changes
      Based on above one can target the symptoms assisting the individual and the ‘brain’ to start regaining homeostasis ( balance)
      This requires medical input.

      Dexamphetamine is different from Methamphetamine. And the PFC requires an optimal level of DA and NA for functioning. Too little and that’s the symptoms of ADHD . Too much is harmful
