Homie. you REALLY explain how to mix better. Different than other channels where the guys had a WEAK explanation only to get views. huge congrats. your channel deserves get big!
@@TeamWiperClips you would put a peak controller on the bass .... then put a parametric eq 2 on the piano (or whatever sound you want) then in the EQ you would link the band 1 gain to the peak controller...invert the mapping formula and done. your low end of the piano now automatically goes down whenever your bass is playing
Bro you just taught me something new thank you! I always automated with the on/off a I would just cut out the cracks, I'm gonna use the wet/dry knob for now on. Just saved me a lot of time.
Nice one bro! Something I do sometimes is have my 808 and piano play in solo and put a low pass on the master so I can hear only the low end (round 100hz). Then I'll filter out the low end of the piano on its own track so I can hear at what point the piano clears the low end space. Keep sharing the knowledge ✌️😄 love see stuff like this!
U can really tell and recognize confidence when u hear and see it. Man I'm loving this tutorial, some of the biggest mixing secrets is automation. Continue these tutorials. Well done bro
That's super cool...never really thought about it like that...there were times where I would use an automation clip to turn off and on eq's but doing this with a piano is cool too
You’re so good at explaining the theory behind what we’re learning. A lot of the time I feel dumb that I’ve never thought about doing it myself 🙏 for consistently putting out amazing tutorials
I seriously didn't know about this, before watching this video I usually make two wav files of the same melody with a low cut on the other and no low cut on the other one 😂 Seriously thanks for this LifeStyle 🙏
There is a free dynamic eq plugin called TDR Nova, you can use it to sidechain your bass/kick to the EQ parameters. This way whenever your bass hits all of the low end can be cut from your melody and when the bass goes away the low end in your melody comes back. Check it out bro
Btw that plugin is a godsend for mixing in general. Dynamic EQs are overlooked but extremely powerful. Good for taming specific frequency ranges on any instrument. I use it to tame sub frequencies in 808s on almost every track and sometimes use it to tame mid frequencies on my melody bus or high frequencies on my drum bus.
you could probably also make a patcher with two signals, one with just low end one with just high end, and pass the low end through a sidechain compressor
You can achieve the same thing with a dynamic EQ with a sidechain which is feeded by the 808. so you dont need to automate but nontheless great tutorial!!
People forget that a lot of mixing is automation, for example don't leave the sidechain on your bass when the kick is not playing, for example deep house intros shouldn't have the stuff sidechained if there's not a kick playing
Nothing wrong with ghost kick side chaining. Can be a good idea though, to not have any make up gain on the compressor, if you were already satisfied with the level of the sound before sidechain compressing it
Hey do you always use that gradual slope on the eq? I use a similar technique for chords and bass, but I like a much sharper curve in the parametric eq. Thoughts? Thank you for all your info sharing and the time you take to do so.

Homie. you REALLY explain how to mix better. Different than other channels where the guys had a WEAK explanation only to get views. huge congrats. your channel deserves get big!
Instead of automating the level manually, you can also use a Peak Controller from the bass volume to duck the low freq's on the piano
Rory E how?
@@TeamWiperClips you would put a peak controller on the bass .... then put a parametric eq 2 on the piano (or whatever sound you want) then in the EQ you would link the band 1 gain to the peak controller...invert the mapping formula and done. your low end of the piano now automatically goes down whenever your bass is playing

@@TeamWiperClips you also have to write "0.5" instead of "1" at the knob where you invert it

NB BEATS of course! Some don’t have access to extra plugins though so I try to show ways everyone can follow
@@LifeStyleDidIt thats right! It is great to have several solutions to the same problem ;)
My favorite tutorial
Great video; Thanks.
Simple but helpfull trick
People forget that a lot of mixing is automation, for example don't leave the sidechain on your bass when the kick is not playing, for example deep house intros shouldn't have the stuff sidechained if there's not a kick playing
The point of sidechaining is only changing the sound when the other sound plays
Unless youre literally doing it manually
No such thing as “shouldn’t” in music. If you want the effect of side chaining when it’s isolated, leave it on, if you don’t, then yeah, take it off.
Nothing wrong with ghost kick side chaining. Can be a good idea though, to not have any make up gain on the compressor, if you were already satisfied with the level of the sound before sidechain compressing it

The Beats Are Ill the steeper the slope, the more resonance bump you get, I like to use gradual slopes
Idk why but when you said "I messed up" i started laughing lmao
Alex R. 😂
Thanks bro
Maybe you can use that trick you showed us in your last video as for the 808 and the kick ?
