  • I made a huge effort to start meditating regularly over the last year and I believe it has had a very positive impact on my life. In an attempt to further demystify the idea of meditation, I wanted to share how I've built up the habit for myself and what I've learned throughout the process.

magicspells I haven’t seen any actual experiments but just based off the idea that meditation helps people be present, calm and learn around their minds, if people were taught how to do this from an early age we’d all be more happier, content people. That’s just my opinion though, I respect if you have a different one.

There is another one good type of meditation. Meditating on your "inner dialogue". At night, before you go to sleep. It' simple: just seat comfortable, close your eyes, and listen your inner dialogue and watch your thoughts, But, key principle - you are only passive viewer, not an active speaker or participant. You don't have to try rule your mind and change your thoughts, just only watching. It really helps to figure out all this daily chaos in your mind and also helps a lot (!!!) for your morning meditation when you concentrating on your breathe.

yeah sometimes i just let my mind talk, usually its a load of rubbish just random phrases and words that ive heard throughout the day or my life. i notice that if i read a book where the author has a very distinct voice and rhythm of words in the day, i find my brain absent mindedly mimicking these rhythms when im alone with my thoughts, just spouting gibberish with a particular tone and cadence. or if i was watching a tv show earlier on in the day sometimes i just imagine the characters speaking with their unique voices. its really interesting im not really sure how best to explain it.

When i pointed out, that she can't disrespect something i did, she was all like "I have rights to say my opinion"

      Glad for you.
I left my wife a year ago after years of similar experience including nearly daily verbal belittling that wore down my self esteem. I love to break situations down without bias so as to find the closest to the truth and am open to new perspectives. She was “always right” and refused to listen to my opinion regularly if it was opposing or non parallel to her own. This would lead to actual yelling on her part if I refused to accept her view for unwavering truth. I could not progress personally as long as I was in this relationship.
Within a day after moving in with my dad, I naturally turned to healthy living habits of good sleeping habits, daily outdoor exercise early in the morning, fresh vegetarian diet with no preservatives, meditation, and journaling my thoughts.
I am so very thankful for this past year of my own life and am very excited to be who I am. I will not let anyone stay in my life who treats me like she did again.

When you catch yourself drifting into thought during meditation, take a moment to appreciate the part of yourself that realized you went off track. Over time you will feel glad instead of disappointed when you drift off of the meditation object, and you will drift less often by positively reinforcing the subconscious mind. This process helped expedite my progress when I first started meditating.

I have been meditating for at least 41 years. I still remember the beginning where I was so afraid to be alone with myself. Had to face all the demons in me. But as the years went by I started peeling off the nonsense, erasing the past. And embracing the present and the future. I went from meditating to praying. Where now I commune with God. And I feel He communes with me. I have direction in my life. I still don't have all the answers to all the questions in life. And that's okay. It's part of the mystery of life that brings beauty in our lives. I've learned slowly to pay attention to little details that otherwise I would have not noticed. Oh, there's so much I could share about this. I believe Nathaniel, who by the way my own son has that beautiful name, is an old soul. He is wise beyond his years. I am almost 60 years old and I'm listening to his videos. I love to learn from younger people. There is a lot they have to say. And we older people should listen. I feel like we have a lot in common. I, too speak Spanish and I'm learning Italian. I recently came from Italy and was able to practice it a little bit. I wish everyone that is reading this the best in their life. Fulfilled, abundant life. But that only comes when we have God in our hearts. I speak by experience.

Notice when the breathe arise and where in your body do you feel the most, the pause between two breathes and after that notice the sounds around you...if you can do it for 2 or 3 mins it's totally fine just tey to be consistent and for the posture sit how ever you're comfortable....i do it while sitting on my bed and i have a pillow behind my back.....and most people say that they start thinking and they get distracted notice when the thought arises...notice how an emotion (sadness, happiness ,stress, depression etc) arises and try to catch that and notice the thought itself and then try to focus in start you won't feel that you're progressing but whenever you'll get distracted and you remind yourself that you're meditating you're improving... I started meditating after a very stressful period of time in my life and a week or two in, halfway through the session I would start crying. I realized that I had been keeping all the anxiety and sadness inside of me and only once I started getting to know my own mind I was able to let it all out. In the moment it happened of course it felt terrible, no one likes crying, but then I would sleep better, and I would wake up the next day feeling better. I've been using headspace for 80 days after experiencing extremely scary panic attacks due to marijuana withdrawals.
At this point I can say meditation is an amazing tool for dealing with anxiety, panic, and more. Far more useful than hiding from these thoughts with drugs.
Honestly - I feel like meditation is going to be the next big leap in mental healthcare, but it doesn't have nearly the same profit motive as drugs so it won't be researched at the same rate.

    • @ondrej1893
      @ondrej1893 4 роки тому +5

Jimmy Henders It is a continuum. Meditation can have some effect, specific drug likely has bigger effect. What has bigger effect - acts through powerful pathway - sometimes can have some side effect as well. You can use both but should discard neither.
To think only “natural” or “spiritual” practice helps is a fallacy. Everything is natural, and nature is not pure like in the Bible. It’s often in decay, full of toxins and poison, rotting animals...many drugs are “natural” substances amplified for bigger effect and purified for less side effects, nothing else.

@Didac Cerver that does not in any way change the fact that without entrepreneurs, businesses and investors you wouldnt have ever gotten the progress that we now have. • @calin6327
      @calin6327 4 роки тому +4

@Didac Cerver You did not "overpay". This is just pure silly talk. You paid what the phone was worth. Have you studied economics? Like... at least once? These are the simplest of simple terms.
Nobody cares about your idea or what you developed unless it's put into action. Without investors and businessmen taking on the massive risk of bringing this idea to use and production, you'd have shit.
Capitalism united the world together. Enriched the world and allowed you to live the most comfortable life in the history of the human race. Your complaints make no sense and are based on the emotional backbone of "tHoSE gReEDy caPItaLisTs".
Capitalism, in every country that was not burdened by war or other calamities, managed to supercharge its growth, prosperity, and progress. Saying otherwise is absolutely bonkers.
If you want to live under any other economical system, be my guest. But let me just say, if you do, you are either just uneducated on how the world and economics work, or are just brain dead. I pray that its the first one.

@Guillermo Lombana Wow it seems you have been a great experience. I guess that when we are aware of our breath, of our step, of each thing that surround us we can live the present, the now. I can be in that dimension every time I want or need. Even if it is not always easy. But meditations help me. I can say the same for stretching or running. But staying focused as well. Our mind is always trying to tune us on past or future . Tune on your inner voice, The important is you are there. In every breath. In every moment. a big hug. Ale

Has anyone else had psychedelic experiences while meditating? When I was 21 I dedicated myself to the practice 1-2 hrs a day for a year and remained sober throughout this time. During this time I had 5 experiences that have changed my life.
    1. Out of body -floating over my neighborhood and observing details.
    2. Growing to the size of my room.
    3. Falling through my floor into my garage from the second story.
    4. Out of body - floating over 4 versions of myself sitting in a circle.
    5. Weightless; feeling only my nervous system.
Most every experience throughout the year was accompanied by physical sensations and extreme clarity. I am now 30 and am trying to get back on track to practice daily. This video is very encouraging. Thank you!

I have felt weightlessness and my arms and fingers being almost detached from my body as well as my hands feeling like im holding the weight of my whole bed even though my hands are actually on top of my bed lol (like an upside down effect) (i like meditating laying down). The feeling is so strange but being aware that you are aware is so strong, and if you dont panic but keep at it, its so peaceful. Sounds like you had some interesting experiences. Keep at it and hope it provides you inner peace. 😊

I've never tried meditating laying down as I think I'd fall asleep but I will have to experiment with that. I know what you mean by not panicking. These sensations can be pretty terrifying at first but it is when you push through that real progress is made. I am still at it and had my first deep meditation after a month of getting back to it. An example of this is music, people listen to music because of how it makes them feel for the most part. Not everyone likes the same artists yet most artists will rap/sing about the same thing. Therefore..no matter who you learn from, as long as you learn is what matters. Don’t spread hate on something just because it didn’t suit you, you push people away from reading the book themselves when they probably would’ve learned it better through that then another author

The reason I stopped was, because my head was full of nonsense and meditations were getting harder and harder for me. It was a time when I was dealing with college, work, girlfriend, family problems, and I started making excuses for not having time for it..... But I should probably start again.

"It's part of the process. It's not good or bad, and there is no good or bad"
After meditating for more than a year now, I've realized that understanding that feelings, thoughts, emotions, and life moments and as well as even meditation has no good or bad. Nothing that we think of or feel is necessarily good or bad. Our minds or the way we put a perspective on things especially for example, saying "ah yes, I do love that feeling" or "that feeling is terrible! i hate that" is the reason for why things are good and bad. If we observe for what the feeling is truly, as just a feeling or just a thought or just an emotion or just a moment then that's all it will ever be. That is the beauty of understanding nothing is good or bad. It's just there, and that is all.

I grew up with an intense desire of killing myself (I felt that the world was too much, too heavy). I didn't know how people were able to live with so much pain. Even when my family was very supportive and lovely, I felt like an alien between them (an angry alien). The path wasn't at all easy, indeed was the most difficult thing in my life, and I don't think that I am a master in meditating, but I know how to deal with strong, negative, heavy emotions. That gave me the possibility of not being so much centered on myself and listen more. I like that. When I listen I disappeared.

Thank you for this. I've been trying to be consistent with meditation for a while now to deal with depression and anxiety and not getting anywhere near as consistent as I want to be. But the quote at the beginning of the video really hit me because I've been expecting an immediate fix or to see immediate effects. That's what I've been focused on, and instead ignore the quiet meditative moments I have with myself, which now that I think about it, I really truly enjoy.

I sticked my meditation routine to a cup of morning coffee. Doing this every day for almost a year now, too!

Absolutely love this, man. I’ve been going through an extremely difficult time in my life and haven’t been consistent with journaling or meditating or even exercising. I’ve been severely anxious and depressed to be completely honest and I’ve had my face glued to a screen to keep myself from dealing with these issues but I know I need to get back on track with my journaling, meditation and exercise to really start feeling better again. Thanks for all you do.

Luisa F. Honestly time helped me the most. But recognizing there was a problem and I was not okay was half the battle. For so long I pretended I was when I wasn’t. When you realize there’s a problem, then you’re halfway there. Meditating really helped ease the mind and helped me realize I can’t live my life digitally and need to face real life and my real emotions. Exercising helped a lot too. Being active really helps relieve stress and helped me reduce my anxiety. And it made me feel good about myself. I journaled some but I wish I had done it more. I think writing helped so much when I did do it. I also reached out to my mom, someone I wasn’t the absolute closest with, but honestly I was really scared and it was probably the lowest I had ever been. Talking even just a little with her helped. Knowing there’s someone there just to listen makes it feel better. You don’t have to share everything all at once but just the little things helps. I hope you are okay and feel better soon. You are not alone.
