As I am an ex Chairman/Managing Director and later a CEO - : how can you possibly be a Chair of many major companies at the same time? With again memory loss if or when any questions get anywhere near to the truth. These type of people actually never do a hard days work - high IQ Level with a great CV - Private Education without doubt --- who is he related to? -- same with all of these cango committees --- simply job for the Boys! The Post Office is NOT a difficult business to run -- they all make it difficult to earn huge wage income and huge bonuses which are based on targets -- generally set by themselves and therefore their total focus is to hit these same targets only to get the highest bonus possible and have no interest in the real business needs and requirements. These people are not real business people just puppets.

You become Chair of a £1 billion pound company and didn’t put the feelers out about the strengths and weaknesses your senior team? Really?

"Part time, decisions part baked". Brilliant summary. So many of his answers reveal the simple truth of the matter. Even if he had called for independent audits of Horizon, he wouldn't be back in the office for a month. And he thinks he's a good chairman! The man lives in cloud cuckoo land.

Maybe they were also 'disappointing' in their previous positions and were given rave reviews in order to ensure they did move on! And so the truly mediocre keep on heading upwards.

Postmasters weren’t being prosecuted when he became chairman in 2015. That ended in 2013 His role was commissioning the Swift report that didn’t even get to the board and also allowing the post office to fight the Bates litigation.

There's these soandsos who appear embedded in the establishment of our country who, we’re told are valuable as accomplished figurehead, often bouncing cheerfully from senior job to senior job. And yet, when push comes to shove, they know - or can remember… very little. In some ways, the harder you look at them, the quicker they fade away, rather like Scoth mist 😮

@@bristolfashion4421 This happens a lot on local government. A manager comes along, tells us all how wonderful we are, sets about a ‘change agenda, chucks the baby out with the bath water then buggers off to the next step up the ladder leaving us poor sods to deal with the chaos.

He talked about comparing a private sector company with the Post Office , in terms of statistics . ~~Whilst this may have provided some useful information , it is like comparing apples with pears. The accountability is different. Private sector is more driven by bottom line and does not have political accountability.

Ms Patrick was very good. The Nexus of Tim Parker’s oversight of the Jonathan Swift KC report and recommendations and the Brian Altman advice on reduced case review (8) / disclosure is damning.
Only the Lawyers and the Company Secretary would have known.

TP says he wishes he had been told/enquired about the number of prosecution of postmasters/mistress's. Did he never look at the P&L and see how much the legal department was costing / spending. It would have alarmed me and prompted me ask questions not otherwise asked! Paula V said she didn't even know PO had a large legal department, never mind the amount they were costing and spending.

They get worse by the day. I thought George Thomson was bad as one of the ‘extras’ but this goon is in strong competition. Angela Patrick did a good job at the end showing he was the only board member who could take effective action to question what was going on and didn’t. He was a pretentious slime ball right to the end, was totally clueless and to think this man was Chair of the National Trust and the HM Courts and Tribunals service as well. Lets face it he is regarded as a successful CEO of several companies but that competence did not appear to extend to the responsibilities of a Chair of a public corporation like the Post Office. He lacked expertise is several important areas and this was exposed today by Jason Beer and his posse.

Either the lawyers for the P.O. were covering up the problems with Horizon or the Board just didn't want to know or both. I think it was both. So what this man is saying is the lawyers for the PO didn't want the report to be released because then it would be subject to a Freedom of Information request and then the public and the Government could see in the report that Horizon was a mess. That is a cover-up plain and simple. The whole point of Freedom of Information requests are so that there is transparency of Government organizations.
