seeing his art go from slamdunk chapter 1 to slamdunk chapter 70 ish is what inspires me
The spreads in the Sannoh match are unreal. On multiple occasions I found myself saying "Inoue mate, this is a weekly manga, how are you doing this?"
this video makes me realize just how diverse Takehiko Inoue's fanbase is, he had such a massive impact on so many people.
true!
Inoue sensei is HIM. The goat of manga, and ink master. I've never seen more quality mastery of the medium in manga than Vagabond. Truly a masterpiece, which unfortunately we might never see completed
Vagabond es una obra maestra, todos sus fans deberíamos escribirle una nota a mano al artista para que continúe su obra!! ❤❤
Kingdom. Hard to find any better than Hara Yasuhisa.
@@DerekOfRivia I don't agree with that tbh, although I can't deny that kingdom has brilliant art, Hara Yasuhisa was Inoue's assistant btw!
Not only can he draw he's also a good story teller and movie director. He directed "The First Slam Dunk" and it was amazing, even for me who does not really know anything about the series.
Wow your recreation of his work turned out amazing :o
Yay! So happy you like it! I'm binging on chainsaw man at the moment, thanks to your channel! I love how expressive the characters are, so good.
September 2023 I bought my first Brush pen, and they are ...... just stupendous. Thick, thin, dark light, all the things you want and need in your drawings. I believe it's the best art supply I ever bought. Thanks to Tiktok and youtube for all the video's with brush pens. I am truly in love with it. Your art lines and shadows arw amazing
Takehiko has been my inspiration since I saw the art in Slam Dunk
Looks excellent! I love Mr. Inoue's work, I study from his watercolor paintings myself
すごい。。。完璧だ
Your deep sense of observation motivates me to recover mine, along with my concentration, both of which have been seriously damaged by the web...
By the way, nowadays Kolinsky sable brushes are a no-no for people who love life and all living things. Your beautiful and cool cats seem to show you're one of these persons, so I guess you can understand that creating beauty through art should not depend on cruelty. The Kolinsky weasels are trapped and suffer a horrible death in the freezing forests of Russia. "Beginning in 2013, shipments to the U.S. of kolinsky hair brushes were halted and in some cases seized by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service due to the kolinsky's inclusion in the international CITES agreement." (Wikipedia). There are plenty of excellent synthetic alternatives now, such as the Escoda Versàtil series.
I do not condone animal cruelty. I understood that my brushes were called "sable" but actually synthetic since fur trapping has long been banned. Thanks for the info, I'll do more research on this.
I never thought about Inoue's style as an "economy of lines", but your explanation is limpid. Thanks! :)
I'm so glad I found your channel just as I was getting back into 2d art- the way you break down technique makes everything feel understandable and approachable!!
I'm so glad! Thanks for watching and all the best with your pen and ink projects.
Love this video, love the passion !
Your art is very beautiful. Loved the way you drew the MC from vagabond. Got me inspired to draw even more in hope to get as good as you someday. 😊
This was very inspiring as always! The way he used the brush(upright straight) is how calligraphy brush is held- something I found interesting.
Inouhue and yoji shinkawa that has done art for metal gear are truly goated artists and hard to immitate
This was so awesome, I wish the video was longer, I hope you can do more videos like this for other series :D
I loved this, thank you! His lines are incredible, and that water was gorgeous! I'm going to have to get some of his books. And yes, brushes are hard to master.
Seeing her pronounce the name so accurately is really refreshing and good to hear!
I really love Inoue-sensei's work, Slamdunk, Real, Vagabond are just examples of how I just admire his careful linework and his story telling. He's a really great mangaka, one of the best mangakas to these days, even on a hiatus on Vagabond, people still talk very much about it! Thank you for these observations ma'am! I will try to practice and work myself to the maximum to further grow as a up and coming mangaka in the future! Once again, thank you! God bless you!!
Thank you very much!
thats looks awesome. and great advice thank you :)
I will get there in time. Thank you for your always excellent videos.
Awesome! I always love watching your videos. Pen and ink is one of my favorite mediums and manga is what inspired me to start really seriously learning to draw, so this video really hit the spot. Excellent as always :)
Thank you so much!
AMAZING! Thank you for this video!
I just discovered your channel, and it's one of the best I found on youtube, very informative for those who start using diping pen and brushes. I really appreciate how well I can appreciate your work in 4K, it's almost as if I'm watching it in person
Glad it was helpful!
Underrated! You deserve more subs!
You are SO good. I learn soo much from you.
This video was really informative, thank you! Also love your artwork
Thank you! Glad that you found it helpful 🙂
Awesome, great master study! I think no one else comes close to how living and fluid Inoue's hair looks. I'm also amazed by the many-meter-long paintings he did.
But who said everyone wanted Musashi? I'm sure many would be excited for a Kojiro piece as well! :D perhaps next week? :)
Yess! glad to hear there are requests for Sasaki Kojirō :)
sensational take, congrats.
Absolutely love your channel. Thanks for the effort
Glad you enjoy it!
Omg thank you so much, I've been trying to study his art style since a lot of time
Don't forget to also check out the Blog for additional info: longstrideillustration.com/how-to-study-vagabond-manga/
Thank you so much! This means a lot! I will definitely use these techniques!
Glad it was helpful!
incredible study, masterful!!
I just found this channel and am absolutely in love with it, your narration, your sincerity, and your amazing skill. Thank you so much for inspiring me
Thank you for the kind words. Much appreciated. 😊
What an amazing video! It has inspired me
That was a great video. Thank you.
That's just incredible! The economy on the lines is actually amazing
The more I look at Takehiko Inoue's art, the more I'm impressed. In his manga series Real, the way he draws hands with just a few strokes is baffling.
Everything is great about this video, from the analysis, to execution. The final artwork is beautiful.
Thank you very much! Much appreciated.
ur content is on point
Yahoo finally vagabond 🙌❤️
You are wonderful! Thank you for taking the time to make this video! A short video but i can see there is many hours of art behind it.
Thank you so much!
Just discovered your channel! Such a great video and such an original concept! Subscribed and excited to watch more! :)
Yay! Thank you!
Loved this, I've been obsessed with Vagabond as a masterclass of inking since I read it. You have a great way of talking about your studies, subscribed!
Oh thank you! I'm currently developing a new course "how to study the masters of pen and ink" and am running a survey for people to vote on the content, you can participate here (survey closes June 7, 2024): s.surveyplanet.com/flrm0yv1
@@longstrideillustration Thank you!
This was fascinating ☺☺
Ma'am you are living the dream. I'm still starting as an artist, I'm 36 and recently picked up drawing as a hobby. My current goal is to do exactly that, learning how to draw like my favorite manga artists do.
Such mastery. 👌 to both you and inoue. Haha.
Thanks! 😃
Vagabond is the masterpiece
great work
Really cool video 🖊💮
Awesome
Fantastic studies and I love seeing one of my favorites appreciated. You may have been told already but for anyone wondering how to pronounce Inoue: ee no ooh ay. Almost like ee! No! way! Nobody does it like Master Inoue!!
Thanks for the tip!
I began rawing cause I loved manga inked drawings so much.... As I have no teacher I learn different things... these last years I improved a little... as digiital painter.... I think that I lost myself on the path... your video remember me what was my first inspirations... I think I should leave the screen a bit to teach myself some traditional.... By the way your drawings are so good, you could be a member of Inoue staff.
Thank you for the kind words, and I'm glad to hear that you're inspired. I wish you all the best with your pen and ink projects 🙂
Love inoue. Love you
I'm a fan of him as well
fantastic
Your brush drawing was beautiful
Thank you!
I really enjoy your channel's deep focus on inking techniques and your broad spectrum of reference, on the manga side Takehiko Inoue is definitely a legend, thank you for your work! Not a request but if so inclined I would love to know your opinion on Sergio Toppi's process some day, he sadly remains unknown to many younger inkers'
Yes! Toppi's been at the top of my list and will def get a feature before the end of this year -- you can count on it.
I would love to see a master study on Jospeh Clement Coll, he is my favorite artist!
Jospeh Clement Coll is on the list, as are James Montgomery Flagg and Charles Dana Gibson. I might do a trio vid 😅
The side view copy turned out really well!
I haven't gotten the technique down drawing thicker pen nib lines with pronounced taper, so I mix with brushes quite a lot. Up to this point I only manage to do thin lines with pen nibs. What's your preferred pen nib for thick tapered lines?
The flexibility-elasticity ratio of the nib is a factor, as well how you use the pen (lots of pressure/scribbly style, or light pressure/calculated style). You'll find more info on choosing the best nib for your style in this blog article: longstrideillustration.com/best-dip-pens-for-drawing/
@@longstrideillustration I might try my luck then with a Brause Steno or a Hunt Imperial, according to your selection, thank you very much again!
I just want Takehiko Inoue to continue his manga again after disappearing from the manga world for so long
He is still making Real. Not weekly or monthly but he is still actively making Real.
Real is a great Manga, I have the kindle version so that I can zoom-in to the artwork.
Very interesting
Wow you r gr8!
Love the End of Evangelion shirt!
Good eye 😊
Ooo, do Ryochi Ikegami next! Its deceptivly complex, but comes across as simple
Ryochi Ikegami! Yes, I love his style. On the list!
nice
Youre so cool!
I'm glad to hear that you're learning a lot from watching the channel. Some day when I can afford to hire help, I will make sure that there are captions available in other languages.
Hi, I'm new to your channel, first I gotta say you are a talented artist! The video quality is awesome, And you explain really good! I got a suggestion can you do Yusuke Murata's art study?
Thank you - and yes, Yusuke Murata is on my list for sure.
@@longstrideillustration Thank you 😁👍
I recommend you to check Hiroshi Hirata & Hideki Mori's artworks
Both great suggestions, thanks!
Based
kentaro miura next please
He's made an appearance in a couple of my videos, because I'm a huge fan, he'll likely be featured again. ua-cam.com/video/nqvL1GZpn-I/v-deo.htmlsi=rBuSg0m02MfHPg49
Could you please do a video on Kingdoms author Hara Yasuhisa? Truly terrific stuff and its a top selling manga.
There is a video on youtube called A Week In Kingdom that could be a good start
Thank you for the suggestion.
can you make a video about Banana FIsh manga style please
Great story, I cried at the end.
They’re not scribbles, they’re just messy. The line art is clearly done with precision and intent, it’s just not done with clean and coherent lines.
4:37 YOU need to look closer. None of the the swords line up with that one end of a sword going down and behind him. Both swords curb the wrong way to be lining up with the tip behind him. Or you don't care about obvious mistakes as long as the lines look interesting?
That's an interesting observation. The key takeaway from this video has more to do with the stroke style which effectively captures the expression or the action within a few strokes. If you've ever taken a gesture drawing class, you'll recall that capturing the movement and expression in a few strokes is the main intention.
@@longstrideillustration Yea, I know. I'm just not a fan of his work. I don't like the way he renders people because of the 3D problems that are obvious. It makes their stance and faces look flat.
Yoji Shinkawa, how about his style? :)
Yoji Shinkawa has a beautiful painterly style, thank you for the suggestion.
