I'm always saddened when owners want a euthanize when their dogs aren't perfect. Could you imagine if our children did that to us as we get older 😔. When you get a pet you make a commitment to care for that animal seizures are such an easy thing to care for I adopted a cocker spaniel and it turned out he had seizures with medication and lots of love he lived 15 years with the quality of life any dog would want. Lee I love you you are so good to these animals and to accept River with his little tiny flaw speaks volumes of who you are as a person
Probably as much about that they didnt want to pay for his treatment, its hard to believe they had power over whether he lived or died, thank goodness that they were persuaded,
Why do people adopt dogs, cats, ferrets, whatever without understanding that the sweet animal may not be perfect? That an adoption is a lifelong commitment, barring some catastrophic incident involving the humans, and for me, money isn't one of those things. When my husband and I were young and getting started and one of our adoptions needed expensive care, we said, "Well, time to get out the credit card ." Animals should be that important. Thank you, Lee. You are just the best.❤️❤
I had a dashund beagle mix who at around 2 years old developed Epilepsy. It was heartbreaking watching her go through them but we never gave up on her.. she lived to age 10 I believe. It isn't cheap it isn't easy but yeah when you love you don't give up. Anna In Ohio
If you only knew how many people admire you for what you do. Me being one of them. I have wanted to do something like this my entire life. To rescue and save a helpless animal of any kind. You are a hero to them. In turn they are hero’s for the things they have overcome to me. It makes my soul feel warm and alive to see the light come back into their eyes.
Notice the others are leaving him alone? I wonder if it is because they can tell he is sick? Makes sense to me. Poor thing, he looks and acts it. I hope he is able to get the medical care he needs! This guy is amazing.
What a sweetheart! I can't believe someone wanted to put him down because he has seizures. They didn't deserve him! So glad that he's part of your pack now! He can now live his best life surrounded by love 💕
@@russellpresley6372 I can understand being in that position. I was there myself a couple of years ago when someone broke my cats jaw. Not only did she need surgery but expensive wet food for 3 months. Not once did I think about putting her down. The vet office decided that they would let me do a payment plan. Which was something they normally would not do. But if they hadn't I would have rather surrender her to someone who could have paid for it rather than put her to sleep.
@@zoey1811954 I was very lucky! And I know not all vets would do this. This happened several years ago and she was 16 when this happened. We weren't even sure initially if she could have the surgery. But she was able to go through it and did very well. I was lucky to have her for another 3 years. She was 19 years old when she passed away in my arms. Still miss her. But I wouldn't have had those extra years without the wonderful vets and techs that got her through the surgery. And of course a payment plan they set me up with.
I just LOVE the "welcoming committee" at the gate. Wouldn't it be great if people could welcome each other this way. Welcome to the rest of your BEST life River!!!

Does anyone else get excited when you know that Lee is going to take them to the river? They get soo excited and to see a new member of the family be introduced to this haven is wonderful. The river excursion would be one of my favourite parts of the video. God bless Lee. 💚💖💜
At almost 70, my rescue is the best thing I ever did in my life. We bonded immediately and I don't know what I would do without her now. Yes, she has her quirks, don't we all??
I am smiling and having good energy when im with my retriever buddy but my behaviour face expression with family and friends can never level up my happiness with my dog.. I guess he is my real first love i ever have.. Too powerful energy this 4 legged have in my lifetime
Breaks my heart when people are unable to manage when a pet has a medical condition. My dog (RIP Apr 2020) was diagnosed with epilepsy at 6yrs old, with medication, regular check ups and a lot of TLC she lived until she was 17. And to think when she was diagnosed I was told that it could shorten her life expectancy, the vets were amazed. I miss her every day (even though have another dog) and despite the cost I would do it all again.
I hope someone out there knows who this sweet boys original owners are and slap them for the rest of us. I love the way Copper gets right in there with the new family members. I hope you keep the name River. That is my great nephews name and he’s the most loving seven year old boy in the world.
My dog is epileptic and requires daily medication for it. I very much would like a word with rivers original owners who wanted to put down an otherwise healthy 4 yr old dog who happens to have a manageable disease. Like their first thought was the euthanize instead of at least finding a better home if they couldn’t handle it? Some people 🤦♀️
My dog was diagnosed with diabetes and I have to give him 2 injections daily. And that can be an ordeal most days. The vet wanted to make sure I was ok going forward, and I assured her I was. Apparently, owners put down their pets once they become diabetic because it really is a lot to think about. I can never go away on holidays, he has to have a special diet and his medication is expensive. But I could never, ever put him down because of that. So, this is our new normal. And I love him even more because of this ❤
@@rhythmisadancer8394 our dog is diabetic as well. We have to schedule our daily activities around his shots as well. It was not an option to put him down 😢we made the adjustments and go on as one of our family. We love Stewie and try to give him the best life possible ❤️
@@jessica_jam4386 it just seemed like “oh, I don’t want to do any hard work for a member of my family”. I’m stunned when I see that from dog owners. Thank you for doing the right thing.
My saint bernard had seizures from a pup. We gave him sedabarbs for 12 years. At around 4 yrs old we started giving him Salmon Oil capsules and his seizures reduced dramatically down to 1 or 2 per year. Eventually they stopped but we did continue with meds and salmon oil. Never stopped caring for him. He lived a normal happy fulfilled life. It was a huge commitment as i never left him alone. He passed from a good old age eventually. Bless him dear Lord
OMG I feel such a special connection with River!!! I was diagnosed with Epilepsy about 12 years ago, in my early 20's and since, I am always being told what I cant do anymore and how my quality of life is no longer what it once was! River is my soul dog, I fall in love with every animal I see, but WOW now much I feel for and love this dog is insanee!!! ❤️❤️❤️
My dog is epileptic and still lives a very wonderful and full life as well❤️ cannot imagine wanting to put your baby(how I think of my dog) down just because he needs seizure meds. Neil Young also has epilepsy and is one of my favorite songwriters ever, dont let anyone tell you that you can’t do what you truly want to do! Wishing you well❤️

Adopted a dachshund with epilepsy…. I was so lucky to have him in my life for almost 15 years. I spent over $25,000 on vet bills for him….it was WORTH EVERY CENT. I can’t even imagine what would have happened to him if someone else adopted him….I feel blessed that I got to be his caretaker and family. River is so lucky to have you❤️❤️❤️❤️
I know we lost River and I know it hurt like hell. Losing our fur hearts 💕 is at times too hard to take. You are surrounded by the best love you can get on this planet. 🙏🫀🙏🫀 Love you all..
Oh my God...I have just read a few old comments, and found out that River passed away! My sincere condoleances! Better later than never! I often watch your older videos, so my comment probably is not so up to date with the events, so apologies for my late comments if they are not so right. But I believe River was happy in that time spent with you and the pack...life is so unpredictable, but you Lee have a Jumbo heart, which should be cloned to make people nicer and just as caring as you are. You get these words million times, so you might become a little ovewhelmed by so many strangers giving you such feedbacks about your kindness and caring nature...but you really are, and you touch people's heart. I have even told our Hungarian Vet what a great man you are at the other side of the world. Of course he has never heard of the Asher House, because he does not speak any English, except German, as we live close to Vienna. Here German is more popular in schools, but there are more and more younger people who speak English these days! Hungarian is a very difficult (Fin-Ugor family) language, as even being living here for the past 10 years, my dear hubby could not acquire it 👎😰. I have to deal with everything as a result! Have a nice day! X E 💞
My husband and I had a German sherd named Jake. He was the coolest dog. Loved riding in the convertable with the top down. Loved swimming and tennis balls. His seizures started when he was 2. It was the first time I ever saw a dog have a seizure and it scared me something awful. We had him on two types of medication, tried changing his diet. At first he didn't have a lot but over time he got more and they were closer together. It was really bad, he would lose his bowels and after he came out of them he couldn't see well and walked into walls. Eventually we had to put him to sleep. He had 25 seizures in one weekend and I just laid with him on the floor that whole weekend. We cried because we didn't want to lose him but we didn't want him suffering. He made it to 8 and was loved dearly.
Just saw this. I don't know anything about epilepsy in dogs, and like others, I wanted to think that those previous owners didn't give River a chance. But reading your story, and knowing that River was 4 when surrendered, I kind of think the previous owners probably did try their best. It also would not surprise me if they were swayed by their vet to euthanize sooner rather than later, as the vet would have foreseen things getting worse in the next few years. And I imagine the expense could have been a factor. I'm very sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing your experience.
How come you haven't won the lottery yet, with that huge heart and the love you show every single animal at the sanctuary you truly deserve to win the jackpot.
He HAS won the jackpot. He's able to help, rescue, and give love from his huge heart to so many dogs that would've been euthanized or further abused if it was not for Lee stepping in and opening his home, pack and heart. The love and loyalty he receives from these amazing dogs is ALSO his jackpot. Lee's living a life a LOT of us only WISH we could!😘👍💖🐾🐾

I watch you on so many different venues but River fitted in perfectly to the family and I knew from the moment that I saw you too that he would perfect addition to your family sending lots of kisses to Dad and new son ✌🏻💜🙏
Wow, those owners fill me with rage. I had my newly adopted cat for less than a year when he developed seizures. Kitty ICU stay and now on meds, and a few months later he had breakthrough seizures, second kitty ICU stay and now needed two medications. He tolerated the first but hated all oral forms of the second and would cry and hide. So what did I do? I talked to my vet, got online, did research, and found a pharmacy that made a topical version. He's been seizure free for over a year and living a perfectly normal life, and loves his meds because he gets treats and ear rubs (for the topical). And he's the sweetest best boy. I don't know if tomorrow he'll have seizures we can't stop and that will be it, but he's my pet and I would NEVER do anything less than everything. Because he's a member of my family and I love him. My foster that I adopted from even offered to take him back because he had medical issues but I told her I would never give him up because he wasn't perfect. Thank you for taking River in and giving him the home he deserves.
Omg where did this guy come from? He only sees the dog .. age, health issues doesnt stop this guy from giving these pups a chance to enjoy his life . LOVE THIS GUY!! Amazinggggg🥰🥰🥰

I used to have 2 bichons that had epilepsy. I had them both neutered at 4 months old. Was told the anesthesia causes this. But one was worse than the other, unfortunately. These dogs were so wonderful and loving. Your dog seems just as sweet as mine were. And your pack knows he’s different. The Asher House is the perfect place for this beautiful creature!

My dog has epilepsy. Didn't think twice about getting her the meds she needs even though it's horrendously expensive. She's down to one every few months and in between is the happiest most spoilt furbaby ever. Yes it's horrific for me to watch and it feels like my heart stops every time but it's what a parent does. I'd do anything for her. Thank you for giving River a loving home and for all you do.
To prevent break thru seizures, it's super important to make sure you give him eplisey medication at the same time twice a day. If you can manage to stick to the time schedule he will live a normal life without seizures. For example, I give Zelda and Daisy their phenobarbital at 3am and 3pm every day. I set an alarm to make sure it is given to them on time. I schedule my life around them, if I travel they go with me so I can ensure they get their medications on time. If I go out for dinner with friends or go shopping I always make sure I get home in time to give them their medications on time. It's a sacrifice and it limits my social life but that's ok but they are so worth it. 💞
Lee, I wanted to comment on the video where you talked about loss, particularly River and Stubs. It touched us and helped us revisit our own pet losses. You were masterful in not only truly acknowledging the pain of animal-friend loss but also taking pride in giving them a wonderful loving life in the wide open spaces. Loss is painful but as they say the amount of pain we experience correlates with the amount of love we can feel. Thank you for your heartfelt sharing.
I have two golden Retrievers, my boy is River and my girl is Lily. ❤️ I also have 2 other rescues, no similar names though. Your poor River. I wish him luck and send love.
my 15 year old toy poodle also suffers from seizures. it's the most horrific thing to go through and witness. not to mention medication 3 times a day. all dog owners who share this experience all have such a special bond towards special needs animals. it feels like if we can help them through something as horrific as this, we can help them all.
So sorry about River. I have always had dogs & cats. Time has taken so many. The hurt is beyond terrible sometimes even now if I think about them or just one of them I cry for hours. They bring is so much joy, love. & loyalty. I have a 9yr old Yellow lab that literally saved my life, when he was give to me I was in a awful place. He still gets me out of that bed every morning. He knows I need him.
You can tell he spent a lot of time just laying around because his former owner probably didn't engage him at all, if they were willing to put down a 4 year old dog because he needed a medication, they were never loving him like a family member he was always just a dog to them..i don't like going in on people like that but it is what it is, he now has the best possible home and will be happy for the rest of his life.
I agree.. they don't deserve a dog like River and hopefully they'll see this video and realize what assholes they are ..and never get another dog or any animal again
As a pet parent with a doxon who has seizures the medicine helps and improves their quality of life..... I want to tell you River you now have a forever home and love and a wonderful father. Big Love River n Asher 🏠
My little Henry has epilepsy. Seizures started when he was 2. Never in a million years would I give him up. He's medicated to control them, we tried holistic and some different med combos and it's been 3 months since his last seizure. The meds may shorten his life span, but I make sure he's happy and healthy and enjoy every minute with him. Don't give up on dogs with medical challenges!!! 🐶💜
My pequeno podengo had small seizures , one year we forgot the yearly injections and she never had any seizure again, last year she died at the age of 17.
I couldn't agree with you more! You NEVER give up on them - you do whatever you can in order to make sure they are as happy and healthy as possible. If that means I eat ramen for a month so I can pay for my dog's medical needs, I will GLADLY eat ramen. They are FAMILY MEMBERS. You move heaven and earth for your family, especially when they need you the most. I will never understand these soulless humans who choose to fail their dogs when caring for them becomes inconvenient in the moment.

We had a Maltese with seizure disorder. She knew when they were coming on and would run to one of us so we could hold her through them. She was pretty well controlled on anti seizure meds until her passing. She was 11. They never found out what was causing them. Our Vet said that they often never did know. We still miss our "Princess Grace"....she was amazing. I hope River does well on his new meds.

Thank you Asher House for all you do! Thank you is not even enough. God bless you! I pray you can continue to do your work and show your beautiful light. May others follow suit!
I got my first lab years ago, from a shelter and I figured out that he was turned into the shelter at a year old, due to epilepsy, when he started having occasional petit mal or small seizures. A lot of vet appts. and much testing later, he started on a daily medication ( I think it was phenobaritol , but this was years ago ). All he needed was yearly blood work and one little daily ,inexpensive pill. He did great and we never looked back. I know there are different types of seizures and intensities, but the daily pill worked well for him. He had maybe one break-thru seizure a year. So epilepsy is NOT necessarily a death sentence. He was very healthy otherwise and lived until he was almost 15 years old. He was a doll.
This just made me wanna squeeze my lil bears. I have a blind diabetic pittie who also had surgery for thyroid cancer and additional masses removed, she's also on chemo. She needs insulin every 12 hours on the dot. The idea that someone wanted to euthanize this beautiful dog rather than give him a few pills every day baffles me beyond words. It also makes me detest people and wonder how anyone could be so heartless and selfish. Luckily for River, he just upgraded like CRAZY in life. I wish Lee could take every dog in need of a better human. Hopefully others see his videos and decide to get involved and foster as well!
I've been fortunate with my dogs over the years. I know what it's like to be broke and not have the money for vet bills month after month, but like I said I've been fortunate. I'm thankful this beautiful dog was surrendered and given to your sanctuary. It is muck more loving to give up a dog than it is to have it in misery. Thank you for taking special care of him. ❤
We had a dog with epilepsy many years ago (over 20) he was the most beautiful, dopey dog ever. Unfortunately his seizures were never completely under control and he reached the limit of his medication quite quickly over about 2.5years. As he seized he received brain damage and towards the end he was seizing every day. So we had to say goodbye. But the time we had with him was precious. We were glad to have given him a loving home after an unknown history (we got him from a pound). 🌻 (RIP Sammy).
You have no idea how much this means to me 😢 our fur baby has had them for 5 years now and is on 4 medicine but she is so worth it. Our vet told us most people don't go this far and it breaks 💔 my heart to think of the one's that don't have the care they need. THANK YOU WITH ALL MY HEART ❤ ♥
Christina, I'm glad you are taking care of your seizure dog. It is sad that a lot of people don't want to deal with medicine, but they would for their human child (I hope!). My daughter's kitty got diabetes and I treated her for 5 years before she passed. It's a commitment, but if you love them, you do right for them❤️

I'm glad he's landed well, and I hope anyone that has an epileptic dog can be open to reaching out for help if they cannot take care of them. River is a beautiful bird dog! He will be a healthy weight soon being with your pack. Lee, you have a great feel for your dogs. I can't wait to see a confident River running with your pack💙
Lee is so happy when he's with his dogs. And you can just feel the love he has for them. What a special person he is!
@@Jojoba25 Aww, Stewie ❤ Its amazing what love can do. God bless you all 🙏
@@jessica_jam4386 it just seemed like “oh, I don’t want to do any hard work for a member of my family”.
All my life! I can’t believe that’s a reason to euthanize. Give him to me!
Wishing you well❤️
Take YARROW and CBD. IT WORKS AS THE DRUG DIAZEPAN BUT WITHOUT SIDE EFFECTS ;) YOU CAN FIND IT ON EVERY MEADOW/GRASSLAND. OR BUY THE EXTRACT. I just read you have also lilac and red yarrow in the USA.😃 Please just look into it. 💋 This herb works wonders👍🏻 You can collect it in the warmer months during your walks. Dry it. Then put it in a blender and always have powder ready :)
I hope you get better 👍🏻

I saw the video with River what a special dog! Even though He has passed what LOVE he gives
You and the pack everyday!
Rest in peace, sweet River
Praying for a miracle to open our own sanctuary!!! I need to be as happy as you are! My love for your dogs and all dogs runs deep. Thank you for being what the world needs!!
River is so lucky to have you❤️❤️❤️❤️
Bless you
I know we lost River and I know it hurt like hell. Losing our fur hearts 💕 is at times too hard to take.
You are surrounded by the best love you can get on this planet. 🙏🫀🙏🫀
Love you all..
Lee's living a life a LOT of us only WISH we could!😘👍💖🐾🐾
He already has! ❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️

This just popped up in my feed after watching the video of you saying River passed away 😭 I am so sorry. I could tell he was very special to you. Thank you for giving him the life & love he deserved! I know it's painful but, take a few mins & think of all the special memories you've created with him & remind yourself that he's waiting for another kiss on the other side 💕
I have always thought that it is a blessing to sick dogs to have their last days in a happy environment where they know that they are loved. On River's behalf, thank you Lee.

"This is all for you!" Lee Thank You for being such an AMAZING & LOVING human being. I'm so happy for River (and all of your rescue friends) 💜🙏💜
Great work on the research!
You do such an awesome job with them Lee. Keep up the great work! You are so appreciated! Thank you for all you do.
Omg where did this guy come from? He only sees the dog .. age, health issues doesnt stop this guy from giving these pups a chance to enjoy his life . LOVE THIS GUY!! Amazinggggg🥰🥰🥰
Your right he is a "baby sass"!! So very sweet and so calm, your love is going to make him feel even more comfortable. He is an amazing special pup for sure!! The pack was so good with him to help him fit right in like he's been there all along, and your right love will make everything right!!❤❤🥰

Poor baby! Well, he couldn't be in better hands, that's for sure! ❤️🐕
My dog has had epilepsy since he was three. I would never have given him away. He turns nine this year and is my everything. I love him forever.
He is beautiful thank god for you
I have epilepsy, it’s manageable. Period. I’m on two seizure meds(7pills in total) sure I get breakthroughs yet I’m alive and so is River!

His vibe and recall towards you is beautiful…Welcome River 🐾🥰
RIP RIVER🌈🐾🙏
So sorry about River. I have always had dogs & cats. Time has taken so many. The hurt is beyond terrible sometimes even now if I think about them or just one of them I cry for hours. They bring is so much joy, love. & loyalty. I have a 9yr old Yellow lab that literally saved my life, when he was give to me I was in a awful place. He still gets me out of that bed every morning. He knows I need him.
Welcome To The Pack Handsome River ...Lots Of Love ❤ 😍 xxx
Love the meet and greet party! 🐕🐕🐩🐕🦺🐕🐶🦮🐩🐶🥰💕💙💜🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Pointers are the best breed ever! Full of energy til the day they die. He is precious
You giving him a tour and introducing him to everyone was so precious! So happy you found each other!!
As a pet parent with a doxon who has seizures the medicine helps and improves their quality of life.....
I want to tell you River you now have a forever home and love and a wonderful father.

Cbd works well with some types of seizures, without the side effects of seizure medication.

We tried everything we read and everything the vet suggested. Just give Henry the best life you can and he will love you unconditionally.

What a beautiful dog River is. My cat was diagnosed with epilepsy at only 2 years old, she still has an amazing life ahead of her
I got my first lab years ago, from a shelter and I figured out that he was turned into the shelter at a year old, due to epilepsy, when he started having occasional petit mal or small seizures.
I just can't imagine your animals in a happier place than the Asher House. So AWESOME!
You and the pack can heal so many dogs. I thank God for all that you do for as many dogs as possible. Lee your place in Heaven is assured.
Your videos being joy to my heart that somebody care's about animals and dogs

When my dog had his first seizure I was terrified, I had no idea what was going on, so I can understand the original owners' mental state a bit. I'm glad he's landed well, and I hope anyone that has an epileptic dog can be open to reaching out for help if they cannot take care of them. There are plenty of people like me who will happily give them the care they need, and we won't judge you for making a good decision for a better outcome.

I don't understand how people think euthanize a dog is that simple, I had to put down my dog at 14 and still feel horrible for that even though it was the best for her.
I had a dog who had seizures. Changing his food to no grain helped. But when he had seizures when I was present I would hold and comfort him. No harm came amd I think that helped him when it happened when I wasnt around
