Why do people lie about the dog when they bring it to the shelter??? It only makes it that much harder for them to get a family! Thank you Lee for giving him an incredible home!
Maybe they didn't lie. Maybe the dog was aggressive towards the man in the household. Maybe the man in the household was abusing the people in the house and the dog was trying to protect them. If the dog was protecting the family members from someone it will do it all of the time not just when the person is being mean. Maybe they did the best thing for the dog and if the people are being abused they should leave as well. Maybe that's why this dog was nice to this guy, this guy was not the one being abusive to the other members of its previous home. What this video does show is that shelters should wipe the slate clean when they receive an animal then form their own opinion for each animal in their shelters. Shelters have no idea why a dog is deemed aggressive in their previous home. Previous owners will leave out the part about being abused by someone in the home, they can not admit to being abused because they are scared of what will happen when they get home.

Probably just lied to get rid of the dog, I heard one "Excuse" was the dog didn't match the new decoration in the house, a 12 year old chihuahua I think it was. Some people just lie cos they don't want the dog anymore
@@user-kv6ty7ge8u Well, they don't, but then the owners lie and say the dog hates men or is aggressive (like in this video), aaand they have to. In short - humans suck sometimes.
I dont think he had bad owners per se. They wrote a letter and yes, a letter is no justification that they're good but it could just be that he didnt click with the previous owners for whatever reason(s). Maybe one person in the family treated him badly or maybe he was traumatized by something in the old home and associate it with bad/negative.
@@kobisjeruk I'll reserve judgemental feelings I have, but that kiddos body language speaks volumes. I work with abused dogs as a volunteer (adopted one too) and it's all about how you treat them and show them how you love them and will protect them and take care of them. My rescue was terrified of me when she first saw me, but once we went out on a walk together she changed completely. Within the first 48 hours she fell asleep with her head on my thigh, paws up in the air. Dogs are pretty good judges of character. They may show apprehension and fear with a new person, but once you let them approach you on their own terms, they are pretty darn perceptive of a person's intentions for the most part.
@@FWDSUXARSE It was the fear of the doorway for me. That brief moment of hesitance. My dog has some form of trauma (I think she might've lived in a cage her whole life before Hurricane Harvey liberated her), and years later, she's still a bit nervous around doors. Like she's afraid of what will come through them. And that moment where Hooch hesitated? I think he was afraid of the same thing.
This is the guy who adopted that super over weight german shepherd and made him healthy and happy😌 he is an amazing person. He owns all rescues and dedicates his life to rescuing dogs.
Nothing makes me happier than seeing a misunderstood dog thrive in the right environment. You can tell that all your dogs love and trust you very much, and they love being in your energy. Well done!
I was thinking "yeah RIGHT." the whole time. Brutus (excuse me, Hooch is his name now) found his home after that first hour with Asher and the poor human's in total denial!

Don’t care being pickup and having his jaw playfully hold and his able to share food with another dog. Yeah previous owner were probably super shitty or don’t know what’s normal or not and what’s aggressive really mean.
Yeah is a very submissive dog if I'm honest don't see him being agreesive what so ever even if they said he was I just don't see it happening I feel they just liked about ot to make it seem like they had a reason to get rid of him when they clearly didn't
Beautiful man. Nothing is more attractive than seeing a man that not only loves animals, not only rescues animals BUT HAS A SANCTUARY!!!!! Amazing!! Precious baby Hooch!!! Im pretty such the previous owners made up all that bs about him, idk for what reason, maybe they thought they would get into trouble for surrendering him? People sure are fucking stupid.
It's like the dog I got in the shelter.. mine is pretty nice too.. just not good with smaller dogs for first week or so.. after that mine was fine.. Their just playing which some people think is an aggressive dog.. they just need more attention and love that they've been wanting..
More likely he just had owners who couldn't be bothered to give him the attention and exercise he needed so he just got bored and into mischief. It happens a lot with people who want a pet but don't realize dogs need more than food, pats when you're home, and a house to lounge around.
You have to follow Lee from The Asher House sanctuary. He's already had a number of Dodo videos - and he has his own channel. He' awesome. What a beautiful dog too. Bizarre that he was labeled aggressive. He's a total sweetheart!
It really makes you wonder what was going on in that environment for an animal like this to behave aggressively, assuming that was even the case. Every living creature is capable of thriving with love and support.
It kinda feels like they didn't have a good excuse as to why they didn't want him, so they lied and to drill it in more they went over the top with the lie.
Here's one possible scenario. Like all pitties/pittie mixes, Brutus was adorable as a puppy but as he grew, the owners sort of expected him to "raise himself". They did not train him and shape his behavior, and they gave him a scary name. I believe Brutus's owners were actually afraid of him, scared of his energy, and the dog, sensing abandonment, reacted.
Either there was a lot more to his previous home life than just, "he was aggressive," or they straight up lied when they brought him in so that they didn't have to admit that they're dumping him. That's probably the sweetest, "aggressive" dog I've ever seen. I'm glad somebody took the chance on him, and he didn't have to pay for his owner's actions
His old family must have treated him pretty badly. Rolling around on the floor with him was a winner! Great work loving this great dog. Good for you! You are a beautiful man who has made a wonderful environment for these dogs.
@@JouniKyyronen-nv1ep depends though. Every dog is different. Have to add in the situation and enviroment. When you are told a dog is aggressive. Then that dog comes in unsure and submissive. Aggression is a symptom. So it's different when it's a first meeting with an unsecured dog. The best time to show leadership is during meals and walks. Constantly correcting bad behaviors. Which he did in this video. The dog only needed a verbal warning to deescalate. Showing strength when it matters the most.
Reminds me of a scripture in proverbs...one interpretation was... "you can tell a good man by the way he treats his animals" ...became a favorite version...reminded me of my dad...all animals we had ..dogs .cats..horses...all seemed to take an inquisitive and affectionate interest in him and always recognized him as the true alpha...even if he never raised his voice around that animal nor even had an ongoing relationship...they always seemed to know he was the top dog ..leader of the pack...they were usually affectionate or respectful of him...even the horses would walk up to him to greet him, maybe lay their heads on his tall shoulder...
He lets a man straight pick him up like he’s a little puppy. Aggressive?! Naw. His behavior is absolutely uncontrollable. Just pure love and affection flowing out of him.
@Dog Supremacy right?! We always had Chesapeakes growing up and getting them into the truck was always a chore because the second you slipped your arm under their belly they were having NONE OF IT. Like full on attack mode. Hooch looks like an absolute PRO.
Scared or not, that’s the owner’s issue to deal with. It’s not fair to take it out the dog. Maybe they were projecting their fears onto him: that he would become uncontrollable and aggressive. Or maybe they provoked him bc of their fears ("kill them before they kill me" kind of idea). Regardless, that’s the owner’s responsibility to deal with their fears, not the dog. The dog is essentially an innocent child.

Brutus was probably acting “aggressive” because there was really bad energy at his previous home. Dogs can sense it and he probably acted up because he didn’t feel safe. So happy he found a place where he’ll be loved. Happy for you Hooch!!!
That's what I'm thinking. The man or men in that other house must have been doing something extremely negative, maybe trying to totally control him in an abusive way. Naming him Brutus gives you a hint. Maybe they wanted some kind of vicious pit bull and couldn't deal with having gotten a sweetheart instead. The great thing is that Hooch didn't seem to have been damaged by it. Thank God. And then the guy just fell head over heals in love with him. From the second he laid eyes on him. THAT was awesome. I have a friend who works at a no-kill county animal shelter. She told me that a lot of people who turn in animals just make up wild stuff about the animal they're dumping as some kind of justification for not keeping it. It could just be that the people who had him didn't want him and just lied.
@@r.mcbride2837 that’s kinda what I was thinking for sure, or he was destroying things because he wasn’t getting proper exercise and care and the owners blamed him for that also. Either way it wasn’t the dogs fault.

This guy is the most likable human I’ve ever seen, and is probably the best human that I’ve ever seen with animals. Especially Dogs!!! I have the utmost respect for him, and what he does... ✊❤️
This guy has such great intuition for dogs. "THis is how you let em know you're the strongest in the room" a subtle show of dominance done with love. It's literally AND figuratively "sweeping her off her feet". That desire to trust\surrender and be safe that makes for a good dog.
From the second he saw him there was no hesitation or fear, tail wagging. He’s super friendly. I think the dog sensed he wasn’t with his people and tried to get himself evicted. Thank God he miraculously was at the right shelter at the perfect time.
I had a friend back in my childhood, they had a senior dog that kept it's distance, slept all the time etc. Then when he passed, they got a puppy. The puppy was amazing, but they were so used to their senior dog's behaviour, they viewed the puppy as a bad dog. The puppy grew up to be a normal dog, & they still hated him, kept him outside cause he wanted to greet people & play, cuddle on the furniture (my favorite part of having a dog)... It was awful. Yelling at him for being a normal dog. They gave him away to another family member, a single lady in her 40s. When I found out, I was relieved when I talked to her, & she said she hated the way the poor dog was treated. She cuddled with the good little boy, spoiled him, took him everywhere with her... That lady became a permanent dog lover, & I developed a crush on a much older woman haha... She's 65 now, & I still adore her & her house full of dogs😁💜🙋🐕🐕🐕
I think what Lee meant when he said "I'm not going to keep him" he actually meant I'm not going to keep his name Brutus, and thus changed it to Hooch 😀
Probably the previous owner is a woman having one night stands with different men. Brutus instinctively defends Master. Hahahahahaha... Just a hypothesis lol
Exactly. If what they said in their letter was true, & not just some BS in order to remove blame from themselves, that pup felt unsafe. Whether they hurt him intentionally, or not, something went awry.

"Aggressive"? "He doesn't like men" ? this same thing was said to me when I adopted my Cane Corso but she was all over me. She has always been a loving dog, but one day she met a guy at the park and became stand-offish and when he raised his voice at me about her, she became very protective. I've taken her to many places with tons of people and men she loved for hugs and belly rubs. I have a neighbor who she has been loving too but one day also got very protective of me, well turns out he had been drinking. Since then discovered anyone that been drinking she does not like. Did some research found the previous owner was an aggressive drunk and she was only getting in between him and family when he was drunk, all I can say 6 years later she still the same loves us and just keep away from heavy drinkers. And to the previous family, you got rid of the wrong animal.
Yes they did Same happened Very attractive young woman came in with a beautiful male German shepherd that she raised from a pup She brought him in because she said, and i quote, "My fiance and I were arguing and when he got in my face, my dog wedged himself between us and got in my fiance's face. So my fiance said I have to get rid of the dog...' She told that story to four women and one man. It was the MAN among us that clarified with this woman... "So your fiance was in your FACE, your dog physically put himself between the two of you, to protect YOU, and you're surrendering the dog instead of breaking it off with your fiance???'

We adopted an Alaskan Malamute that we were told was a noisy, bossy, misbehaved dog. We gave her a house, food, lots of love, the medical attention she desperately needed, a large fenced yard to play in, and a companion. She was the sweetest dog I've ever known!
You can see the relief and feeling of gratitude flood over this dog. I really believe there are no bad dogs, just bad owners. This guy looked like a happy, loving, loyal companion from the minute he met Lee so I don't know what was going on at his former home but I'm thrilled he's out of there! He hit the doggie JACKPOT!
This dog is phenomenally well behaved. Sweet, gentle, polite. Makes you wonder what sort of environment he was in before for him to be deemed dangerous (unless his previous humans were just liars). I'm starting to really respect that most "dog aggression" comes from fear, overstimulation, or misunderstandings. When you know how to treat them right, as this man does, they show that their true nature is not aggression, but love.
Im betting all the things the previous owners said were lies because even if they did abuse the dog to get aggression out of it, the dog would’ve showed fear when he came to visit.
Very true. Do you want a pet? Then make sure *you* understand all that comes with it! Do you have the time? Do you have the love? Do you have the money? Do you have the environment for one to live in? It's not that hard to do the math. :)

Sometimes giving up a dog to give them even a slim chance at a better life is best. I used look after a beautiful border collie called Denver when his owner was no longer able. he was the friendliest sweetest dog I've ever known even if he was a big clumsy dumbass but we had to give him up when we went through some hard times. We just didn't have the time to look after a high maintenance dog and somtimes love isn't a good enough reason to keep an animal that you cannot provide for. I hope he's happy wherever he is now.
Sad, but at least his original family didn't just dump him off on a country road somewhere as some do. They left him where they knew he would be cared for, you have to give them that much. Not every dog is a good match for a family.
My ex bought two dogs. I didn't want a dog. As I had a busy life and I couldn't care for them. She had them for a week and Rocky got injured. 2 weeks later I took them to the RSPCA. They got rehomed after a few weeks/month's and they have forever homes. That was 2012.

Probably just lied to get rid of the dog, I heard one "Excuse" was the dog didn't match the new decoration in the house, a 12 year old chihuahua I think it was. Some people just lie cos they don't want the dog anymore

To think that this sweet dog didn't connect with anyone in his former house is sad. All he needed clearly was a good owner.
I agree. He wasn't a bad dog, he just had bad former guardians.
Word
More likely he just had owners who couldn't be bothered to give him the attention and exercise he needed so he just got bored and into mischief. It happens a lot with people who want a pet but don't realize dogs need more than food, pats when you're home, and a house to lounge around.

@@AeridisArt as in they wanted him put to sleep dead.
I have come across people who lied when they released a dog. Interesting the shelter did not immediately put him down...thankfully.
Makes me scared that there is a man in the house abusing a human, if the story was truthful.

Good for you!

badly not being leader, if human is weak dog takes leadership, and cause humans cant speak dog the trying to bite sounds bad
It doesn't mean he was treated badly it just means he might have been a strong dog that needed a stronger leader
You can tell that guy’s a good person by how much his dogs love him.

@cqvio doli I understand why they were afraid.

I want to be reincarnated as one of Lee’s dogs 😂
OMG 😲 America has its version of Takis 😱 This is so awesome!!
For anyone who doesn't know the Takis Shelter is a shelter in Greece (I think correct me if I'm wrong) the guy who runs it has a heart of gold! He finds cats and dogs in what's basically dumps like literally piles of garbage everywhere in the wilderness, on the streets and what not and nurses them back to health! I really don't know why I watch these videos I always end up crying happy tears.
Agreed 👍💯
Dog…what’s with adults speaking like children? Doggy…kiddo…so stupid, I’m sorry
@@Paige-pk8dr We love to hear about the kind-hearted animal lovers all over the world. Thanks for all that you do on behalf of the dear animals.
This guy has been in at least 10 dodo videos and he is so thoughtful generous and caring for all his dogs
he has a youtube channel called the asher house!!
He really is such a nice guy imo. I subscribe to his channel and watch all his videos. He’s a gem
@@MrWadrO I agree! This guy is so sweet-I think that he and that beautiful dog should go home together!
We adopted an Alaskan Malamute that we were told was a noisy, bossy, misbehaved dog. We gave her a house, food, lots of love, the medical attention she desperately needed, a large fenced yard to play in, and a companion. She was the sweetest dog I've ever known!
Thank god there are people like you, to give these dogs a chance. Thank you. All the best from Scotland.
@SUFYB: Malamutes are gorgeous dogs!
She probably was neglected! Dogs need human closeness, not just a yard and food!
Strong evidence that fails are usually due to the adopters' inadequacy, not the dogs' behavior.
Lovely, Lovely person, You.
This guy needs a UA-cam channel. I would love watching his journey, and how he takes care of that many dogs.
He does, it's called asher house
He does have one.
he is on fb too
The asher house on you tube
The Asher House has a lot of videos on UA-cam and has a FB page. He is the best and I have spent hours watching his videos.
The only reason they couldn’t handle him clearly wasn’t because of aggression but because of who they were.
Agree
Yep, he was with the wrong people. Bless his heart❤️
He was probably stuck in a small house with no human or dog company most of the time, and little exercise.
Probably, the previous owners were bullying Brutus ...
@@analives13 was thinking that too.
I just realised that it’s the same guy who saved Tony the German Shepherd! *IT’S THE SAME GUY!!!! WHAT A LEGEND!!!*
I KNOWWW!! I WAS JUST WONDERING IF IT WAS REALLY HIM BUT THEN I SAW TONY THE GERMAN SHEPHERD AND I KNEW IT
I loved that video with him and tony. Not to mention he’s a gorgeous human being inside and out!
Not only that he have one more video of adapting three dogs!
TONNNY I remember tony oh I don’t realize it was him
There's also a video of him(Lee) adopting 2 piglets and a Llama😊
I follow the Asherhouse on Insta😁
This man is a angel for dogs. Thank you Lee for what you do. Be blessed
When Lee was in the car saying im not going to keep him, i was like thank god, Lees going to keep him. ❤️
Yes! You know when Lee falls in love with a dog, that's it. He's keeping it.
I absolutely agree. Fear is a response often times to other aggression. No dog is just born being aggressive all the time.
Im betting all the things the previous owners said were lies because even if they did abuse the dog to get aggression out of it, the dog would’ve showed fear when he came to visit.
I'm thinking the previous owners were morons and liars
Very true.
Do you want a pet?
Then make sure *you* understand all that comes with it!
Do you have the time?
Do you have the love?
Do you have the money?
Do you have the environment for one to live in?
It's not that hard to do the math. :)
Agreed 👍
Note from Brutus: thank you for surrendering me so I can find a normal family that sees how special I am.
Or: a special family that sees how normal I am. 🧡
This family is no where near normal, he is got a whole pack! And he knows exactly what he is doing, just perfect for dogs!
Maybe you don't know what he did
Karen Pokorny Yeah! you said it!
@@dradski1758 do you?
I adore Lee and The Asher House
His last owners did Brutus the biggest favour, because now he knows he’s got the best home ever. 🥰
Exactly!!!! He definitely won the pup lottery.
I know your joking, but don't disguise the fact that they abandoned brutus, and traumatized him.
@@Thughunter510 I don't think he was joking. Rather give a dog a better opportunity for a better home, than have him to stay, in an environment that was traumatizing.
People don't deserve dogs. They are way too pure for us.
My face hurts from smiling through the whole video. It was sooo good. 😊👍💕
Very true
"Aggressive and doesn't like men. We don't feel safe in our own home"
Random strange man: hovers over, grabs side of face, puts face in face, maintains eye contact
Brutus: excited tail wagging and not one sign of tightening up as if to attack
It tells you everything you need to know about his previous situation.
The owners either were huge liars. Or were mistreating this huge baby, or Brutus was no longer convenient wanting to be rid of him. The ass hats also set him up to be put down based on allegations he was aggressive. Nothing I saw indicated any aggression.
@@autumninvirginia1229 They probably just didn't give him attention, worked alot. When they got home he'd get excited, jump on them - if they had kids then they'd probably be tossed around.
It's a big dog, it's easy to mistake excitement for aggression. But yeh no they shouldn't own any pets if they called him "aggressive".
Well maybe they returned him because they wanted a dog that protects the house not everyone wants a dog for love don’t forget dogs were made for protection back then now they are just for loving just cause you love when they jump on you and lick you and give you attention cause no one else’s will doesn’t mean some other person is looking to buy them for licks and love there have been times when a dog jumps on the owner for love but can hurt the owner and result in them thinking it could be violent you never know the full story. Enjoy your day
@@theworld1770 point taken but most dogs bark at strangers ect. They are a great alarm system but if the door or window is breached it is up to the human . Dogs at best only buy time.

“They said he doesn’t like men.”
No, he doesn’t like the man that owned him. He’s an obviously very very sweet dog. If he was aggressive toward his previous owners, that means they were treating him wrong.
That’s just a lie. They made all that crap up so they don’t come across as assholes for wanting to get rid of him. This happens a lot tbh.
@@brendanvannyss6612 finally Someone said it... The whole video i was yelling like "THEY LIEEEED FFS!"

@@brendanvannyss6612 I've actually had women at shelters tell me the exact same thing, it wasn't the previous owners that said "He doesn't like men" it was the women working there. Wish it was that easy for ppl.
What a surprise! 😂 This man is the BIGGEST foster failure ever. I know if I were a dog, I’d want to be one this mans failures too. 🥰
there’s NO way i’d be able to foster
There are some great people who foster quite a few animals, and do so year after year. Yet, in my experience most first time fosters end up as “failures” where the people end adopting the animal themselves. We fostered 10 dogs for the local humane society. They were all hard to give up, even though they went to good homes. We ended up keeping the last one and stopped fostering.
This guy has the biggest heart for doggies! He's so inspiring! I wish him & his dog family all the very best! God bless!
That guy is giving those dogs their best life. Most people can't give that much energy/time/money etc with one animal.

I was an Animal Health Tech before Nursing. The fact that this dog got a chance is incredible. Saying he was uncontrollable &aggressive usually means he is immediately put down, as he would be considered unadoptable. This just goes to show it wasn't the dog, it was the owners. Glad he got an amazing forever home.
My dogs a rescue, a black German Shepard, the previous owner said she used to fight with her other two small dogs, yet i have found no aggression in her, and her best friend is a jack Russel, she plays with other dogs just fine, and is not in any way aggressive .towards other dogs, if anything she is submissive.

Brutus is the most docile, loving well behaved "uncontrollable" dog I have ever seen. What was he doing to his previous owners? Loving them too much? Their loss is your gain my man, hope you guys have many happy years together.
Two possibilities: Either they let him go nuts and eventually couldn't cope, or they lied. Lying is easy.
I think the best thing they ever did for Brutus was surrender him. He's won Doggy Lotto.
Previous owner: "Yeah he doesn't like men."
Doesn't like men? Or doesn't like YOU?
That abandonment message is definitely suspicious given just how sweet he is. I thought when they said they "couldn't take it anymore" that maybe he was just a big loveable dog that didn't know his strength and just needed to be trained but he was actually pretty disciplined.
Yeah, a big goofball who needed lots of exercise and always wanted to play. Hooch is so obviously a good natured, easy going, boy. Some people really don't have a clue about dog behaviour. I know a woman who was terrified of the King Charles pup her husband got. She deemed it aggressive for just mouthing her or ragging on a slipper.
Direct translation of that message:
We bought a dog on a whim because we were bored and didn't think we had to actually care for it aside from leaving it some food and water.
Some people are not meant to have pets, this did could had been euthanized because of that letter.
