The 4th goal is artistry. What makes football worth watching. When the beautiful game had no diving or cheating. "That was sheer delightful football"..
***** that was the power of brazil football: they pass the ball around in seemingly harmless possession, then, suddenly, you're picking the ball out of your goal.
The beautiful game, or " jogo bonito " died when Brazilian players started going to Europe for the glory of money, that was the end of Brazilian football, never to return to it's absolute glory!
It was the greatest World Cup, a perfect World Cup. So many dramatic matches, no tournament since has had, the greatest save (Gordon Banks), the greatest tackle (Bobby Moore on Jairzino), the greatest misses (both Pele, v Czechoslovakia and Uruguay), the greatest match (Italy v Germany), the greatest team (Brazil), the greatest player (Pele), and the greatest goal. Although this is the ITV commentary, (Hugh Johns with Bobby Moore), the BBC version sums it up best. Right from the start with Clodoaldo leaving three blue shirts in his wake ("They seem to take it in turns to give an exhibition" - Kenneth Wolstenholme), to the captain, fittingly hitting the most perfect of winning goals. The pass from Pele is equally perfect as the scorer does not have to alter his stride. Wolstenholme's description is just as perfect, "Oh that was sheer delightful football". Five decades on and nothing comes close to this. We will never see their like again.
The Carlos Alberto goal is still the greatest goal ever scored , something special about this tournament and its winners it will always stand out until time eternal
Of course with the plaudits that Brazil get are deserved. But people forget how good that Italian team were in 1970 they contained the core of the Milan teams that dominated Europe the previous decade, full of world class talent. To be so comprehensively beaten in this way is an even better compliment to the genius of Brazil.
The 1970 Brazil side will live on in football forever, the last goal personified their legendary status. To win 3 World cups in such a way, with your captain smashing the winner. Brazil own the World Cup, they own football.
It's nonsense to say "Oh, that team would be rubbish now". Yeah, it would, because it hadn't been trained with the modern methods, all the extra behind the scenes stuff that makes football what it is today. Take those players and give them the lighter balls, the custom-made boots, the perfect pitches, the psychologists, the diet plans etc etc. and I bet they'd be a match for anyone now. It's all about context.
Agree totally, and remember this game was played in the middle of the Mexican summer, heat and high humidity plus the high altitude of the Azteca stadium. Even the fit players today would be dead on their feet after an hour.
David Brown God bless you man; and I´m not even religious. You took the words right out of my mouth and I´m shocked so many people are unable to "get" what you wrote. Thumbs up 4 U
only Recently Pele was interviewed and asked how that team would go against the modern day Brazilian national team, he thought about it for a while and said, it would be a close match that the 1970 team would probably win after extra time, what makes you think it would be so close asked the interviewer, Pele responded, you seem to forget i was one of the younger players at the time, most of those guys are in their 80's now.
Brasil win was undoubtedly deserved, but all the Italian players were on their feet in the second half, because of that great and hardfought semifinal match against Germany. Look closer at the 3rd Brasilian goal and you will see what I mean. If the Italians had more energy, both physically and mentally, it would have been a much closer match. Probably Brasil would have won all the same, because that team was really great and a joy to watch, but they would have had to battle a lot more.
@@matiusday Italy tired in the second half which was a big factor in this result - extra-time in the semi-final plus three earlier games in Toluca which is nearly 2,700m above sea level had clearly taken its toll on the Azzurri. And you're right, the coach, Valcareggi, made some poor decisions in the second half. He lacked the courage to try and take on Brazil and it was screaming for Rivera to play. But the best team in Mexico won the trophy.
@MEYERNET Italy were an excellent side in 1970 with many great players - Facchetti, Riva, Mazzola, Boninsegna. They gave Brazil a hard game until Gerson's goal in the 65th minute. They tired towads the end after playng 120mins against West Germany but Brazil were the best side in the tournament and probably the best side we've ever seen, certainly in attack. But that Italian side deserves respect.
That 4e goal was great, never seen anything like that so far, but for Italian standards that was very very bad defending. When Pele got the bal, he could say hello to the crowd, and then still pass to Carlos Alberto.
im watching this and score could have easily been 6 to nil. brazil hit bar twice right. italy goal was a gift from lazy defense. pele just is from another planet. he has to be the best ever. he outclasses the italians. the last goal is absolute perfection.
While most remember that brilliant, Brazillian, bonanza, of a goal, to cap off a superb showing.. I also have to give some respect to that second goal.. It was both magically & meticulously: Mesmerizing.
Pele sets up the greatest goal ever made, under unimaginable pressures of the world cup, and he did it like he was walking in the park on a sunday afternoon, while feeing the birds.
I am Italian and I can say that there were few possibilities for us because despite being a football that traveled less, Brazil ran much faster than us (for many reasons) that Brazil was football which in the following years was already changing in Europe with a team called Ayax which became European champion and a gift to football Crujiff is a change of the same sport with the National Netherlands!🥂😉
The highlight for me was Pele helping Jairzino set a new world record by scoring in every world cup match. Pele was supposed to be over the hill and a doubt for being a key figure in his 3rd world cup, but boy did he show up for the finals and THE final.
Aqui no Brasil esta (1970) é considerada a melhor seleção de todos os tempos. Ficando em segundo lugar a seleção de 1958 e em terceiro a de 1982 (mesmo sem ser campeã). Here in Brazil that one (1970) is considered the best team of all times. Placed in second the brazilian team of 1958 and in third place the team of 1982 (even not being champion).
Carlos Eduardo de Souza Rodrigues Yes they were surely the 3 most exciting Brazilian teams, though the 82 team's great talents were let down by some weaknesses. From other countries, Hungary 54 and Holland 74 were brilliant and should have won world cups.
@@mizofan That proves that the best team in the world doesn't always win the World Cup, but Brazil were most definately the best in each World Cup tournament that they won. In my opinion, the 1970 tournement and Final were the best, Argentina against Germany was an entertaining final in 1986, and that was also an entertaining competition. thekububeach That´s why it took Brazil such a long time (24 years) to win another title in the USA in 1994. Ironically, the same mistake that led to the Italian goal in this game was repeated in the match against the AZZURA in 1982.
