Tiger? I barely know her! Anyhow great video my guy! I'm cycling my first Caridina tank and can't wait for them to arrive in the mail! Keep up the great content mah dood
It's been hectic here trying to get things wrapped up at work and the kid keeps me busier than ever. Hoping to get stuff out more regularly but who knows...
So happy to get this one finished. I honestly filmed the intro in May, it's just taken me so long to get through and get all the footage because life is busy af.
I keep Caridina shrimp and I never do water changes! I have a lot of plants in my tanks so they suck up a lot nitrates. I do top offs a few times a week and that’s it! When I first started out in the hobby, I did weekly water changes and was chasing the parameters and I was losing shrimp left and right. As soon as I left my tanks alone, I had success. You’re right that stability in the parameters is extremely important! And I achieved that by just doing top offs and keeping a lot of plants in my tanks.
Whatever works for you! I barely even test parameters once the tank is cycled, my water changes are just habitual at this point but I am working on toning down the frequency. it's just too much work with 20+ tanks!
Do you ever add any of that GH+ stuff to your top off water? I'm looking into starting a caridina shrimp tank. My current tank has a pair of electric blue crayfish that just had babies. I never do water changes either. Just top off with tap water from the sink and a couple drops of water conditioner.
they look like 10 gallons, possibly a bit bigger. this dude is stuck living in Canada like me and from how insane the aquarium prices are here, you can get a 10 gallon for like 5$ extra over the price of a 5.5gallon , the bigger tanks have more stored energy in the water so they suffer less heat loss in power outtages that we all get during winter. Plants, snails, shrimp, consume a hell of a lot of calcium from the water when breeding/growing so it helps your KH remain stable with higher populations! When my shrimp decided to breed, the powdered eggshells I had in the water started dissapearing so I had to keep up and rob my neighbors chicken eggs from the coop to get more of it. hope this helps 🤪@@CoolNumber1
Hi friend starting a new tank and my GH and KH are high, when I do a water change do I still need to add the Salts to RO water? or Just add RO water to remove GH and KH? Thank you!
For caridina, it's best to create your own water with the salts to ensure there is no KH at all. Having KH in your water will deplete your active substrate faster than expected. I would continue water changes with the proper water parameters and eventually the tank should even out.
I have a multi stage rodi filter that produced 0tds. I always assumed 0tds is pure water and never added declorinater before remineralizing. Have i been doing it wrong?
TIGER I BARELY KNOW HER! I am starting a couple of bee shrimp tanks. I am using Fluval Stratham and I'm going to be using remineralize water with the same GH plus that you are. Do you have any idea how long the Fluval stratum will last? Probably between 1 and 2 years ago everyone says right? I also have Samurai soil but I guess I should only use that with my Neos correct? I am just starting to do this seriously and I don't want to kill anything along the way LOL so any advice you have would be appreciated
Looks like you got things right. The soil usually buffers for around 2 years. At that point, if the shrimp have stopped breeding, I would look into restarting the tank. However, if they are still breeding and doing fine, even if there is no buffering capacity left in the soil, I would just leave them be.
😂 nice , i just do top offs. My shrimp are studs ❤ keep all neos bobby. 120 to 500 tds maybe higher , all planted tanks. Ive never added anything for the shrimp. Besides flake food , pellets , what ever the other fish eat. Speaking of that i got to purge my blue dreams. And trim my tank down from over growth. Cheers
It's tap water stripped of all minerals. My tap comes out at around 150TDS but an RO unit lowers that to 0TDS, allowing me to remineralize to whatever parameters I want.
Every time I do a water change my shrimp die. The parameters are the same except for the tds as I'm trying to get that down, hence the water change. What do I do?
@@BobMossNanoTanks This is the thing I don't understand. If you put the same TDS in the water, what is the point of a water change. Isn't the whole idea of a water change to lower the TDS?
Just been busy with everything! Starting a new job next week and of course the family keeps my hands full. Hopefully I can get back to at least two a month, just gotta find the groove

You don’t need to change water maybe once a year top off regularly with clean ro water and your golden

You're probably fine, i'm just overly cautious and the RO Buddy explicitly states it does not filter out chloramines.

Ya, I should probably tone down my maintenance. It's getting out of hand with the number of tanks I have
Ya but your tanks seem to be green. Why not slowly cut down. Let them grow. Most times you just reset the tank every 3 years

Is RO water just tap water treated?

I just spotted a buried crystal red. Never knew their eggs are red. First time my crystals bred.
Congrats! And just a smallest correction, it's "berried" because the eggs look like berries :)
Every time I do a water change my shrimp die. The parameters are the same except for the tds as I'm trying to get that down, hence the water change. What do I do?
Have you tried adding the water back in slower? You might be shocking them with a TDS change? The temperature and pH are the same, correct?
@@BobMossNanoTanks This is the thing I don't understand. If you put the same TDS in the water, what is the point of a water change. Isn't the whole idea of a water change to lower the TDS?
I mean obviously it's to remove nitrates but plants do a good job of that anyway.
