  • Welcome to ShopLifeTV!
    In today's video I give an overview of the M54 engine found in the e46/e39/e60/z3/e83/e85. This engine came out of a 2001 BMW 330 Convertible, so it is a M54B30. In this series I will completely disassemble the engine so that everyone can get a better understanding of what happens when it overheats as well as how everything works in general. Thanks for watching!

    The parts in this engine is a cheap way to build a stroker out of a M52 block. M54 cams, crank and pistons. Keep those if the engine is toast.

    This guy got skills and obviously got a grip on the M54b30 which is a nice change as most of the e46 related UA-cam videos are done by people who have never stripped the engine let alone know how to upgrade it!
    Strong work my friend, I have liked and sub'd, so show us a budget supercharged build, use the lysholm screw from a scrap yard AMG Merc. I did a similar one in a weekend on my friends E30, I think you would make a good job to a 46, ms43 runs it too lol

    • @ShopLifeTV
      @ShopLifeTV  8 років тому +1

      Honestly I don't see the point of putting a turbo unless it is going to be strictly a track car. Any car I drive on the street, I like for it to be reliable and able to take me wherever I want to go. If i end up building a track e46 i might consider a turbo.

    Hi, question please, BMW E39 M54 engine. The car smokes rarely only after accelerating following descending, after a deep vacuum it smokes, that is, if we go down on neutral, nothing happens, but when we are on some kind of gear shift, and suddenly we gas, smoke comes out. PCV valve, valve stem seals are changed. Gasoline 95 is used, by the way, it happens after long drive, when oil temp rises, though in rare cases. After smoking the level of oil decreases. I am sure it is oil. No smoking in the morning and in the rest of cases, what could be the reason, TNX

    What's up man, like your videos, it's really helping a lot. I had a questionare you ever going to show how to rebuild a E90, 2006-2011 engine? I have a 2009 BMW 328i, it doesn't start but cranks, the mechanic said to just swap the engine, but if I can just rebuild it, it would save some money, and get to know how. There's No video on UA-cam that shows you step by steps like you do. And If you would like to use my car for a video show how, in case you don't have the exact engine or car, let me know I'll email more info. but the down side is that the car is in houston.

    Great video .. I need your help with this p1419 code. I replaced the check valve and the secondary air MAF. The secondary pump appears to be working at cold start for about 30 seconds then shuts off. I still have the check engine light. I took it to the dealer who basically said, I have a blockage and I need a new engine 😳😭.. the car otherwise runs perfectly fine. Is there a way I can “clean” this blockage ? I have a 2004 X5 3.0L. If your exhaust bolts are rusted, have it removed by an exhaust shop before starting the job. Besides that, try to have a helper or transmission jack, bunch of extensions and e-torx sockets. Do the rear main seal, throw out bearing, and shifter bushings if you can. Also do the guibo and the center bearing for the driveshaft. Message me on instagram @ShopLifeTV if you have questions

      Awesome that's reassuring I just hit 290,000 miles yesterday on my 325xi all original apart from the stuff that goes. It consumes some oil ( a quart every 300-350mi ) it runs strong just approaching 300k mi is a big milestone and im not ready to rebuild the engine just yet.

    • @beng.6417
      @beng.6417 8 років тому

      Both mine are manual transmissions. I enjoy driving the 323 more due to the lack of clutch delay valve but the m54 is defenitely the better motor. It loves to rev and is much more responsive.

    • @aidemhuerta4350
      @aidemhuerta4350 8 років тому

      +Ben Gonzalez doesn't clutch delay make shifting smoother?

    • @beng.6417
      @beng.6417 8 років тому

      +aidem huerta Heck no. I think it's there to eliminate driveline shock. I will be removing it on the 325 after I get a new clutch.

    • @aidemhuerta4350
      @aidemhuerta4350 8 років тому

      +Ben Gonzalez driveline shock. is that when the car shakes if you depress the clutch to quick?

    • @beng.6417
      @beng.6417 8 років тому

      +aidem huerta That's part of its consequential drawback that probably wasn't intentional. All 3 of my cars are manuals and I feel like I'm more aware I'm driving a manual in the 325 if that makes any sense. The others are that much more effortless imo.

    Hey guys, i have a problem with my e46 m54b25. My engine does a strange sound but i cant really locate it and find the reason. It sounds like a high pulsing tone like on this videos:
    my car: ua-cam.com/video/kzx0Bgm_D9A/v-deo.html
    other guys car: ua-cam.com/video/ZZfxCLt5ygc/v-deo.html
    the direction of the sound is from the throttle, but i cant image that the throttle or the idle controll valve can cause this sound
    i thought the DISA was the problem and i changed the DISA, but the sound was still there.
    i would be very thankful for every tips and help.
    greets from germany!

    I currently have a BMW 2005 e46 325ci.
    I have a rather Unique idea for the car.
    My plan is to leave the currant engine in the front of the vehicle and in the back (where the passenger seats are) i plan to put a second engine.
    I will connect them Inline with a drive shaft then at the back of the second engine i will have a 7 Speed Sequential Trans-axle transmission.
    I would also like to have a clutch separating engine 1 and 2 so i can drive the car in economic mode.
    I will also be installing a roll cage around the second engine, and probably sound dampening to stop me from going deaf after 5 minutes of driving.
    Other issues with my plan is how do i cool the second engine?
    How do i feed it air?
    Both engines will be super charged and maybe turbo charged. I want at least 250KW (335Hp) from each engine.
    What do you think? Is this a great idea, or a way to ruin your ears and wallet?
    Regards for any answers,
    -Tim
    EDIT: I still plan to keep all the interior in the front of the car, both seats and radio, etc. So im not going all out race car.
    UPDATE: The rear engine is going to get air from the two rear side windows. They will be modified to have the back going in the car about 7.5cm. This will be done on both sides. Note I still have no idea how i'm going to cool the beast.
    What do you think?
