one of the things I really love the most about Squad '44's tanks is how it really conveys just how blind you are when you're all buttoned up - especially because it gives you the option to stick your head out, trading safety for situational awareness. Something I would love to see back-ported into Squad: Original
It also shows why allied armor was so much more effective. If you sit in a panther you are basically in a steel coffin
@@tedarcher9120 not really, most shermans couldn't pen panthers from the front except a few week points around the barrel. The strength of german tanks was in defensive long range fights. But just like today the tank that spots the other first usually wins.
@@BlackWolf9988 you suppose German tanks were not tanks but at guns. Tanks are an offensive weapon, they are supposed to break through enemy lines. And when panthers and tigers went on the offensive they got shot up like pigeons because they couldn't see anything. Everybody tanks how great Wittman was, nobody talks what happened to his tiger company
Doesn't really translate to squad as much because modern tanks have much more view windows and some have 360 degree periscopes as well.
Modern tanks have 360 Infared commander optics. Not much use in sticking your head out when you can't be ambushed due to satellites and air surveillance sent straight to you

@@user-ve2jj1ik4b squad44 is superior in comparison to HLL. The options, quality, maps and all are way better. I've played more then 2k hours in HLL. And for me it seems te go downhill. They don't add a lot of usefull stuff. Except for a way to expensive DLC.

I agree squad 44 is better. It plays more like squad but ww2. HLL lacks the teamwork and is more arcady in my opinion.
When talking about French tanks, your colleague was talking about the Battle of Stonne (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Sedan_(1940)#Battle_of_Stonne), where a singular B1 commanded by then Captain Pierre Billotte destroyed 2 Pz IV, 11 Pz III and two guns. The B1 suffered 140 hits and wasn't penetrated.
The B1 was an absolute beast of a tank, but with the lack of radios, overworked commander-gunner-MG-signaller, logistical / reliability issues and poor doctrine usage, they weren't efficient.
The Somua S-35 was actually a great tank in all the "hard" metrics, but again the absence of radio and 1-man turret designs were crippling.

@@CCC-nf3bk mostly artillery and airpower yes. The dedicated AT arsenal was very poor for everyone early war, and the better French tanks had sturdy armour compared to others
A great many, if not most, French tanks were abandoned when they had ran out of fuel. Some of these were burned by their crews, or the Germans. Many others were captured and used by the Germans or their allies.
Sadly, a good number of the abandoned tanks actually still had plenty of fuel but it was stored in three chambers and the crews weren't trained in properly operating the newer tanks. So, they checked the reservoir like they would any normal fuel tank and thought they had ran dry (hence the reputation for a small fuel tank enjoyed by these tanks). It led to many tanks stopping unnecessarily at gas stations to fuel up (delaying their advance) and later, caused some to be at risk of encirclement - leading to their abandonment. Some fought heroic last stands before being abandoned, others never got the chance to fight because of this silly problem.
In combination with the famous issues stemming from a lack of radios, two or three man crews, and delayed mounted messengers on the gridlocked roads, French tankers faced a variety of unusual challenges.
So cool to see the revival of Squad 44, Mercury Arts is clearly a really passionate and talented team, shout-out to Offworld for reviving the project. Now they have modern day covered with Squad and WWII covered with Squad 44.
Gotta be careful when firing the tank´s main gun. Everyone within like a 10 meter radius in front and to the sides of the shot will be blasted by the shockwave. So have your inf behind or well in front of the tank.
Well your typical squad blueberry usually doesn't care and even when told ingame they still walk infront of you.

just a quick tanker communication tip with example:
compare this from the video 6:24
"i need you to push up the road and take a right pig, there is going to be a tank on the east side in the field, i need you to load AP.
[...] yeah push up the road, our first right, load AP."
what it could have been:
"driver: forward! next turn right! -
gunner! load AP, contact tank up ahead after right turn - maintain 12 o'clock, scan field!"
you really should try to keep any commands sharp. don't give the persons name you're talking to somewhere mid story.

1. role 2. command
it's much clearer communication, you will be heard first time almost always and commands will be followed much faster and better. while it's not a big deal when the situation isn't even close to tense and works out, in any stressful situation you'll have way better experience being on point with what and how you say things.
I learn most of my armor leading from Vade lmao, i even told my mates to learn german for clear communication

It’s so cool to see a game that was basically dead come back to life and eat the lunch of the competition, namely HLL. I’ve seen so many videos of creators trying to save HLL but I think it’s GG.
Yeah I still like HLL but I'm working on building my competency in S44 because Team 17 is looking more and more like they're just doing their best to milk HLL for max short term profit before letting it die. Probably while laying off half their devs and giving their bosses golden parachutes.
I would agree but Squad 44 is no where near as fun in the whole game, its better for sure but the moments of intensity are just too few for me personally. HLL is shitting on it in terms of raw player numbers, doesn't deserve to but it is.
@@hazzaman175 after spending a few days on squad, I have to agree. I think the thing its missing is actually Warfare Mode. I don't find the attacker/defender type game mode to be half as interesting as one where each team is both attacking and defending.

Even though ill purchase squad44 since Team 17 are acting like they want to kill the game but before killing it sell as much copies and dlcs as they can lmao
Good game, most complain it would be that it feels empty most of the time, 80 players with current slow respawn meachanics on huge maps like this just makes it too empty ...

The ballistics alone sound like they took inspiration from ARMA 3 and i love it. Might be getting back in squad 44
Tank warfare in squad 44 is fuckin terrifying, virtually no visibility and lots of insanely loud gunfire from the machine guns and main cannon, even more so cause you cant really hear whats happening outside the tank so its easy to die from an panzerfaust or a bazooka. Hell even a tank if it sneaks up on you.
I really appriciate the devs and all the team, working multiple games and still poping with updates like this 🤘

A perfect example of why the crew must listen to the TC
Going down those tracks was one thing, (I knew straight away it was gonna end bad, or at least was likely to) but to roll past the last building at speed, knowing that the enemy was right there on the other side of it, with your side armour fully exposed was what got you all killed.
Advancing behind the hedgerow along the field to the left 'slowly' prepared to angle immediately is the approach I'm assuming you had in mind.
It's what I would've done.
Unless it's an emergency, the TC's orders are never to be questioned.
This entire sequence proves this.

It’s a dead game
It seems to have a small but loyal player base... hence the existence of this video. There's a lot of games out there with small communities and they're the life blood of many small / indie developers.

Loved the video @MoiDawg! Can't wait for the next video man! I kinda thought SQUAD '44 looked a Bit like Post Scriptum and after looking through the comments, it seems to be the case that Post Scriptum became SQUAD '44 supposedly about 8 months ago. Now it almost look like there's a bit of Enlisted in the mix as well, with just how Detailed the Uniforms, Weapons and even the Vehicles are as well as the First Person Perspective.
Can't wait to see more of it in future man, and Maybe even try to Create some Formations in the Game.
• Tank Platoon: 3 to 5 Tanks.
• Tank Destroyer Platoon: Tank Destroyer Section of 2 or 4 Tank Destroyers and Security Section of a Jeep Willys MB and a Pair of M20 Armored Utility Vehicles (U.S. Only).
• Tank Company: Company HQ with 2 Tanks and 2 or 3 Platoons.
• Tank Destroyer Company: Company HQ with 2 M20 Armored Utility Vehicles and 3 Platoons of Tank Destroyers (U.S. Only).
• Infantry Squad: 2 or 3 Teams of 4 or 5 Troops.
• Infantry Platoon: Platoon HQ with 3 Troops and 2 or 3 Infantry Squads (Some Nations will have Specialized Teams allocated to this Level, like the Bazooka Teams for the U.S. or a 2 inch Mortar Team and a PIAT Team for the British, in both Cases these are normally in the Platoon HQ Section).
• Infantry Company: Company HQ with 2 Teams of 3 Troops and 2 to 4 Infantry Platoons (Depending upon which Nation you're Playing as).
As for the Challenger shot through the Bush, That's not to hard to understand. The A30 Challenger was a Lengthened Version of the A27M Cromwell IV Cruiser Tank using the Ordinance, Quick-Firing 17-pdr Anti-Tank Gun. It was designed to Support the Cromwell Units and leave the Sherman Firefly's to support the Sherman Units in the British Armored Divisions. Faster than the Sherman, while still having Similar Armor Layout, so you guys probably came up behind it without either of you guys realizing it.

I absolutely love the armor gameplay of Squad 44. My only issue, driving/ having a good driver is a hard thing to come by. I know these tanks were not the easiest things to drive, but i would love to see them be a little less... touchy and sensitive. Other than that, the mechanics are PEAK armor gameplay for a first person shooter game. Love the videos, cant wait to see more.
As TC I almost always drive, because skilled drivers are hard to come by, so the only reliable way to make sure your tank gets optimal facing is if you do it yourself.
By the way, if you hold control you can turn your periscope all the way around instead of just peering through it at different angles. Makes watching the rear quite easy.
Wow, American tank crews are nothing like Vade's outfit, they're loud, chaotic, bad shots and freak out easily.
Had a blast commanding some of those games, we had some really good pushes but just got held at last point or I disconnected so we lost assets. Either way I had fun, haven’t played PS in a while.

I play Squad 44 and have over 600 hours in armour gameplay. It is an incredible experience with a good crew
It’d be really cool if they had like a reward system for winning. Like for the Germans, you go from tiger E’s to tiger 2’s to (eventually) the maus. And if you lose the match you stay with the same tanks.
Example:
America wins a round, get an upgrade to the say m10, but then lose, you stay with the m10.
Germans win a round, get an upgrade to the Tiger 2, lose, stay with the tiger 2.
Which ever team gets 4 wins first, wins the match.
The explosions in this game look so freaking good.

The shell mechanics do need a spice up, at the moment Solid Shot is INCREDIBLY strong, basically forcing players to use it regardless of the fight, I want to use APHE, and I know it explodes in more of a conical shape, but damage wise it does not match up to what should be happening.
Does anyone else remember the tank battles of Red Orchestra 41-45? It was by far the best tank game (well a mod) of it's time and never played one better since. (I haven't tried updates of Squad 44 because my laptop won't handle it anymore) It was the 1st game to give you the ability to have full crews, actual damage hit boxes and armor deflection. ROII tanks never came close to the 1st version of the game nor any other multiplayer tank game. You couldn't just jump out of the tank either, you had to open the hatches and climb out or in.
Tripwire had the best tank sim on the market had they just made the effort to make a game around it instead of just a side show in the RO game.
It's going to be really crazy with the destruction
While I enjoy MoiDawg's videos a far warning to anyone that wants to get into Squad 44 specifically for armor. Matches are usually locked to 2 armor crews max, you cannot lock squads until certain amount of people have joined, once the vehicles are gone, they're gone, no respawn timer. All of this combined makes it nearly impossible to play or learn armor with a squad unless you get lucky.
Me and buddy joined a server running the "armored" game mode yesterday. Armor crews only.
Great fun, and a nice way to learn to play armor.

I dropped Post Scriptum last year because the servers were very dead and only thriving on a specific days each week, mostly weekends, but Squad 44 is back and better than ever. Since coming back to the game, I've always found at least one full server.
"This game is pretty realistic." --10 seconds later the tank is upside down in the street.
If there is anyone who is debating trying this game now, please do yourself a favor and do it. It's the most fun its ever been. I'd argue this game is actually better than Hell Let loose. The armor, gunplay, and atmosphere is unmatched

Haven't played Post Scriptum in like 4-5 years. Stopped playing because I couldn't find many people with mics anymore and because every game was just a blitz to get on the objective and I didn't find that fun.
Might install it again. I do remember that when everything came together, it was the greatest gaming experience I've ever had.
The S35 was one of the best early war tanks. It outmatched the Panzers of the day, but lacked radios and maneuver training because France was entirely defense minded.
Squad 44 could definitely rival Hell Let Loose in the coming years with how much content it is getting. The amount of variety in armor and units is insane, and greatly surpasses Hell Let Loose. Squad 44 has a massive advantage in the quality of armored combat. Unfortunately Team 17, much like Blackmatter (previous devs of HLL), don't care much about adding new vehicles. We've asked for StuGs and M10s for years and only somewhat recently have we even gotten halftracks. We can't even get rifle grenades in HLL, but instead got shotguns and flamethrowers which nobody wanted and nobody uses. Compared to Squad, which I've been playing more and more, HLL just doesn't have enough content to avoid getting stale after a few matches. Squad 44 has the potential to win in that area if Offworld can iron out some of the problems I've heard of. The main things stopping me from getting it are already owning HLL and Squad as well as clunky infantry combat. Definitely keeping an eye on future development though
Crazy how over 20 years later a game comes out with decent damage model for tanks. The game WWIIOL (aka Battleground Europe) did this around 2001 and still exists today as an MMO. Largest WWII MMO battles in the history of gaming... Only thing lacking was updated graphics.
I wonder if Squad 44 will lean in on their vehicle combat. They definitely deserve more players, but seems most gamers these days gravitate towards more arcady games.
I beg to differ. I have the most fun on Enlisted because of the ability to fly planes. Flying a p38 or a Stuka is absolutely amazing

I never once left Post Scriptum for Hell Let Loose. I knew how much potential the game had from the moment I first played it. There were many days I would play squad leader with only 10 people on the entire server. I would never give in, and now it is coming to fruition.

I don't know how you can have a WW2 game with no Eastern Front. It was literally the largest and most important part of the war.
Experienced German Tank Commander reporting: Yes, Squad 44 is just the best tank sim avaiable. It's also one of the most tactical games, especially when you play on german servers. We germans take these things very serious and many of us play disciplined, as if we were fighting for survival! 😁So if you like to have really immersive fun, just learn german and go to one of the (sadly) few servers, that exist. Or look out for an (maybe upcoming) event, that i plan to revive, where we need around 40+ players for the allied side! 😉

@@paullouis5151 On the german servers or the event? If you ask about the german servers: Yes there are sometimes players, that only speak english, even if the german servers are often named "german only". This is because of the comms. It does not matter that much, if one becomes part of a team and plays very cooperative as if he was leader. The easiest way is to ask and then they mostly do not take it that strict.
Today's evening, there was even a squadleader, that could only speak english, so they just pleased him to ask someone in his squad to change to SL, because of the tactical gameplay. There is a lot of tactical communication between command and the squadleads in good matches and this makes language very important on these tactical servers.
For the event it would be cool, to just have it set to "realistic", which means, that i would like to have germans playing germans on one side and english language on the other side. This would make it much easier to find enough players for the event and also make it a funny international event. 😉 But before, there is still a lot of planning and modding, because the event is about the german counterattack on Arnheim.

People picking up Squad44 again? I’ve been playing this with dedication since 2020. There were days when we had low player numbers and only one running server. Great to see people making videos and bringing the popularity back.

For me the most immersive tank gameplay is the tanks in red orchestra2
I REALLY want a game mode that's all about armoured warfare. North Africa with Rommel and Monty or Kursk with the USSR and Germans. Have players only be able to play as tankers or a few small engineer squads to set up AT guns. I also hope to increase player count to 100.
Imagine 16 tanks per side dueling each other at El Alamein or the Russian Steppes
I think you seriously overestimate how many people enjoy using armored vehicles. That will be a bit of an issue for a game that in general is struggling a bit with it's player numbers.
That said 100 player servers are coming soon which is very nice.
Hell let loose should honestly have tank only battles. I loved it when it first came out on console but it definitely went down hill once the player base became radicalized and aggressive towards new players

If you want realism in tank warfare, you don't get much better then Steel Crew. Still rather early on, and being primarily VR it can be limiting, but damn, sitting there and having to manually crank everything yourself, where having to decide where you head sits to look at the correct view ports. There isn't anything else quite like it.
Every time I watch a video of someone’s gameplay it looks freakin sick. Every time I play I feel it’s a bit choppy. If it was simply regular Squad just re-skinned for WW2 I’d be all in 😂

Because I'm a nerd Tank Destroyer's were always in the Reserve company for the Americans. That's cause the overwhelming majority of resistance came from Infantry and defensive positions and not enemy tanks. So most front line company tankers preferred having the 75mm Shermans over the 76 cause they had better HE rounds. (And towards the end of the war the 105) They also had time delayed HE rounds where they were trained to bounce the round off the ground so it would explode over a defensive / fighting position. Then when the unit ran into enemy armor the TD would move forward to destroy the enemy tanks then retreat back behind the line. And frankly the 75mm gun still did well against most German tanks thanks to the fact that they were very boxy like. Tanks that the 75 would struggle against weren't all that common. In fact it was more common for those kinds of tanks to break down and be abandoned than make it to the fight.

@@curiosity03. Here's another for ya. During the Battle of the Bulge the Germans were supposed to have King Tigers. As we know none of them made it to the battle. They all either: Got Stuck, Broke Down, or ran out of Gas. Hell even most Tiger 1 tanks were actually deployed to the eastern front meaning it was extremely rare for any tigers to be on the western front. But the propaganda from the Germans was so strong everybody was afraid of them and sometimes call out they see a Tiger tank when it was just a Pz. 3 or 4.

A mate of mine had the idea that they could somehow make squad 44 a dlc for squad rather than a standalone game which would merge the two communities and increase the playerbase of both. It's not a bad concept honestly
They have enough differences in the fundamentals like gunplay and stamina alone that this isn't feasible. Not to mention they aren't even close to even on players, Squad is wayy bigger and would gain practically nothing from such a merger.
Do they ever do free weekends? I play HLL but would love to "try before i buy." Squad 44 has been looking quite appealing as of late
I know it will be Janky as hell, but i would love the tank interior mechanics of Red Orchestra 2, where the crew would move around, see them moving stuff inside etc.....
This game also shows how much better allied armor was compared to german one

I know it bothers some people sometimes, but I'm a big fan of it restricting you to first person, especially in vehicles. the poor visibility of the tank is part of the experience, and it encourages more teamwork and makes you think and communicate more.
