- Is the Mac Studio and MacBook Air a deadly pair when it comes to pairing up these two devices? If you need the desktop performance of the M1 Max Mac Studio when you're in your actual studio, but you also want the portability of the MacBook Air without sacrificing performance on the go, then these two may be the most cost effective solution to meet those needs.
And with the M2 MacBook Air to be released whenever Apple decides, then will this be an even more perfect match up with these two Apple silicon devices?

Couldn't be happier to have found your channel. great content thanks so much !
Appreciate you, friend. Glad to have you here.
Great video Kevin, have a blessed day! Enjoyed this one! 💯
Hey Kiara, it’s always a blessing to see you. 🤘🔥
Sold my 16 inch MacBook Pro and bought a Mac Studio + M1 MBA, couldn't be happier. I miss the XDR screen, but didn't want to carry it around and expose it to theft, falls, etc. I feel much more at ease with MBA out in the wild.
Yeah, I typically defer to my MBA out and about. It’s really all I need day to day when on the move.
That’s awesome you have this setup. Killer combo 🤘
Hey Kevin, excellent video and super awesome studio setup you have!! My M1 MB Air has literally been a dream machine for me in so many ways. Even with my M1 Max 16” I still really love Air. For me the M1 Air, Mini and Max combo satisfies even my most inner neediness. Even with as tempting as the Studio Max is, I just don’t feel the need to make any changes to my current situation.
Yeah the Max Studio is really fun, however it’s also pretty much the same as the MBP, which is also fun.
In my line of work here I’m starting to feel some redundancy 😀
Really glad to bump into you over here. Appreciate your time.
Kevin, thanks for all the hardware info... but what we all really want to know is where you got that super nice grey oversized mouse pad.... please share.
Thanks! You mean the gaming pad? If so, it’s from HYSTAR. I love it.
More stuff...? in the FUTURE?!?! dang it, just once I want somebody to promise me stuff in the PAST! that would be refreshing, and trippy!
Always more stuff.
Great to see you over here brother.
I recently purchased the base M1 Studio Max and your recent videos are very helpful. Great content and delivery, count me in as a new subscriber.
I’m just happy to be able to help as much as I can. I assume you’re enjoying the Studio?
@@KevinRossRN I sure am! 😀
Fantastic to hear.
This Mac studio (base model) was a huge upgrade for me coming from a maxed out Mac Pro 5, 1 (2 x 5690). That machine would heat up the room and was loud like my e92 M3 for the wrong reasons. I was looking for a little more ram than the M1 Mac mini and the value of the ports was a true selling point for my setup. Kevin, your incredible content on the external NVME enclosure led to the ACASIS USB4.0 purchase :) and quite frankly it is perfect for editing off videos. Thank you my friend! The next phase of Mac Pro is just beyond anything I would create and afford. This base model Mac studio was the perfect sweet spot for my needs and I think this little monster will last quite a while. I love your channel!
Hey thanks for popping over! And yes, this base model machine is really the answer for creators that fit into this category where a Pro level machine is just really hard to swing from a price standpoint, even if you make money with what you’re doing, but also needing a little bit more than these entry level devices.
Really glad to help, and appreciate your time here.
Hey Kevin! Awesome video! I was seriously considering a Mac Studio + MBA combo but think I'm still going to go with the MacBook Pro as I need that power to be portable as a student! The MacBook Air just can't hold up to my edits and it's making my editing time double due to the lag, freezes, and not being able to see changes in real time! Time to save up! 😁
Yeah, I was noticing on Twitter that you were having some struggles there. And hey, the one and done MBP could definitely be your answer. It’s still my primary device.
Always great outro in your videos.
I've received my M1 Max Mac Studio today, M1 mini was not enough. For portability, I'll just use my iPad, it's enough for those little tasks I do on the go. But if I had to edit outside my home on occasions, I think I would buy a MacBook Air too, that's a nice combo.
Yeah, and can certainly add the iPad as another combo, but honestly for the price of the MBA and the full OS, it’s hard to beat.
Big congrats on the studio!
Fantastic video Kevin, I have been using the MacBook Air with the Anker Mini Dock for almost a year now, it's all base on your recommendation. The MBA pairing with my well aged Apple Cinema HD Display is really nice. The combo replaced a 2009 MacPro 5,1 single processor kit that served me for good years. Keep up with the great content!
That’s awesome to hear and great to see you popping back over for this one. Always good to see old “friends.”
Hi Kevin, nice video. I originally picked up a 16" M1 Pro base model. Had a little bit of buyers remorse and thought I might as well pony up to the M1 Max 16" if I'm lugging around a massive heavy laptop everywhere. I thought the wacky idea of having M1 Max power at home and picking up an air for travel and couch work would a fun idea to try. Saw your video to confirm and picked up an M1 Max Studio and a discounted M1 air (down to just ~900 w/ Best Buy total tech membership right now). So total spent around 2900 for the pairing versus 3400 with a 1TB M1 Max 16". I can see myself using this pairing for the next 4-5 years easy.
Yeah I still think this combo is a fantastic pairing. And for the price, even better. That’s an awesome deal.
Hope you continue to enjoy this match up for years to come.
I agree with this so much !
I mean even if you didn’t, you’re still right 😆
Appreciate you. And glad to be aligned.
What do you think? Is it an unrealistic expectation to have an ultraportable that is (almost) exactly on par with the performance of this Mac Studio? In my experience, with working on the go, I've never really felt like I've wanted more out of the MacBook Air and haven't expected it to be a full desktop replacement. Sending you all my best, and let's hang out.
My 16GB M1 MBA has replaced my 16“ i9 MBP. I’m using thermal pads to help spread the heat to the outside shell. And I have it on a massive aluminum stand, connecting it with thermal pads. So the heat can transfer to the stand. A silent Noctua fan is blowing some air on it. It helps with the heat on longer video renderings. I love the silent MBA.
The fact that it’s just dead silent and has this incredible battery life to boot is really jaw dropping.
Sounds like you’ve got yourself a nice little custom setup there friend.
Loving my Mac studio (M1 Max) and it's been my daily driver for a 95% of my design work. It's actually very portable and I bring it back and forth from my home and work offices. But I also DJ and very occasionally work remotely outside those locations mentioned. I have a 10-gen intel i5 MBP and have been considering getting a M1/M2 MBA or the MBP 14". This video sort of answered the question for me honestly and I might go for the MBA. Just trying to decide between the M1 or the M2 version now 😓
Hey, happy to help. The M1 will definitely save some cash, although I know that the M2 is seeing some small discounts right now.
Kevin you always have the best videos..... You have a super cool attitude and provide facts and excellent rationales... When I buy a new machine it will be in large part because of your analysis and I will contact you and explain my rationale for choosing which specific configuration which will in large part have been influenced by your analysis.... Peace from your Canadian brother in South Korea.
Great to have you around here and I appreciate your time that you spend here. As much as it’s not that exciting as always talking about rumors, I’m just trying to help with that ever so complicated consumer buying behavior.
It’s tough, and it’s a big commitment, even for me. So, I get it.
And when you’re ready, I’ll be here.
Great video! I will be testing out a new setup that involves M1 laptop and Mac studio. Hopefully they will introduce pro apps to M1 to round things out.
Yeah, once the software catches up to these chips, they really are going to be taking more share of the PC market.
Well said man.
If I had the money for a new system my main concern would be the eventual release of the next models, not just Air, but Mini and iMac too. It drives me crazy just the thought I wouldn't be able to decide what to do. The funny thing is that even though I can't afford any of them I am seriously having "debates" with myself over why I should just buy an upgraded M1 Mac Mini or wait in case the next model is released soon and perhaps even in multiple colors, oh how much I would like that, plus of course potential extra performance.
Imagine if I had the money lol.
Have a nice week.
Yeah, I do get concerned about being a part of this “machine” of discussing what’s coming next, and I know people are looking to make buying decisions, but I’ve also been a part of that wait and see camp where you’re delaying work or even enjoyment.
However I also know that the financial commitment, even for non Apple devices is still a big commitment.
I can’t imagine anything being released this summer unless it would be the Mac Pro, but I feel like I’ve now been a part of this cycle for years where we pay close attention to September/October, March/April, and June… Which ends up feeling like a constant wait 🤷♂️
M1 MBAir can now be find for cheap on the 2nd hand market. I would advise to go 16Gb/1TB for video editors. Also worth mentioning, when you go back to the office you can plug a Thunderbolt cable between both macs and enjoy local 10Gbe network over thunderbolt to copy the current project super quick.
Yeah, exactly. The M1 MBA is still very much a competitive device for the money right now.
How are you transferring video files between macs? Through a ssd? And how long does it usually take to transfer a video file from your mac studio to your air? Thanks Kevin
SD card transfer to an external SSD. And if I need to move files between the two it would be using that external SSD between the two. I always edit off of the external SSD. However if I needed to transfer it to the local storage, it’s quick. A minute on the low end, and 4 mins or so if it’s a larger folder.
@@KevinRossRN thanks so much! Keep up the good work. A lot of useful information on your channel 👍
Glad to help.
You articulated ALL of that information VERY well!!! Thank You! I use M1 iMac 8+8 16GB 2TB, 5th Gen iPad Pro 12.9, M1 MacBook Air 8+7 8GB 256 GB with Samsung T7 external SSD.
Thanks so much! Appreciate you being here.
Your MBA is 8go ? How is it for video editing and sound production ?
No, 16GBs. I’d honestly recommend the extra memory for this type of work flow. Many people test these with base specs, but after you have the machine on and several apps running, you’re going to be experiencing some throttling. These machines are efficient, but for heavier tasks it’s really best to invest in a bit more memory if you want a solid experience.
Awesome video! One question please. Can I connect my MacBookAir M1 to my Mac Studio to act as a second monitor? My desktop setup now is the Mac Studio connected to a ProArt monitor via the HDMI to HDMI.
Just go up to toggle on screen mirroring (up in the right where WiFi and Bluetooth settings are), enable screen mirroring, and then choose the MBA, and then click “use as a separate display.”
@@KevinRossRNthanks!!!
Sure thing.
This is a great video! I already have a M1 Mac Air, and i was thinking to get the Mac M2 max studio. Quick question, is there a way to use my mac air as a display for my mac studio?
You can use it as an extension (as you probably know) to your workflow where the mouse cursor moves from the studio display over to the MBA, but unfortunately no, not as an external display.
There are definitely some really good display options for a very reasonable price.
Hey brother, long time. Been working a lot! Not even made a review vid in a while. Great review. I actually had the mini scream at me today about the Vram. Pushed it pretty hard with FCP and Photomatrix Pro 6. Thinking it might be time to upgrade to the studio since the work load has increased with more video and commercial work these days. Not complainign about the work at all.
Only thing I am worried about is the choice of upgrading the storage. I got 256 on the mini and it's a constant battle to offload and delete stuff. But this time I will be going with the 1TB option this time. Learned my lesson on the mini. But in your uses have you had any issues with the base model with no add ons to the storage. Not worried about peripherals . Using the Cal-Digit TS3 and it has been great so far!
Keep up the great work and the videos brother!
Hey, that’s awesome you’ve been grinding on work. Nothing wrong with that.
As far as the base studio, it has been fine, but that’s just due to always using external SSDs. I would certainly go with 1TB as a minimum if you can because it’s nice to have a spot to offload (or onboard) footage to the internal of you just need a temporary solution when working with multiple SSDs. I usually transfer footage from external SSD to another external SSD, however I’ll also sometimes just move stuff to the internal, then offload it onto another external solution.
When I read that back it actually sounds confusing 🤣
But that being said I haven’t had issues, however I do tend to like that extra buffer if I can get it. At the time these went on sale the wait times were silly.
@@KevinRossRN Not silly at all! I got the drift! Yeah I DL all my footage/images to externals as it is now. Don't like putitng any client footage on the SSD internally just in case something goes wrong. Actually had to buy 2 5TB externals to offload current work since it picked up. Plus the file sizes of the GFX 50R aren't small either! But the image quality is amazing! Video coming soon on that!
Yeah, that extra buffer will be nice. Luckily it looks like the price drop by about 200 bucks on the base model with the upgrade to 1TB. So hopefully soon I'll be ordering me the base studio with the upgrade.
Thanks for the info and reply. Stay cool brother! I know the weather up there is gonna change soon for ya!
Nice! I’ll have to check it when it’s posted.
Happy to help, and as far as the weather, it looks like it’s going to be warm for the foreseeable 🤷♂️🥵
@@KevinRossRN No way! Up there? I figured since it's fall now. The cooler weather should be creeping in soon! I'll let you know when it goes live!
Cool, keep me posted on the vid.
And yes, 98F today…and for the foreseeable.
What are you using to run Windows on M1? Also can you run any other windows besides Win11? Do all apps within it work, when it does load?
I run it through Parallels. I have both Windows 10 and 11 (on various machines) and yes, everything runs well on this setup.
@@KevinRossRN Thank you! Parallels site was saying only Win11 works; Will download trial and give it a shot. Great video
Yeah, I’ve got Win 10 on the MBA and I have 11 on my MBP. They’re performing pretty much the same.
Best of luck.
Completely agree. This is the best setup imo.
Hey thanks for swinging by. Appreciate you taking the time. 🤘
I use also Mac studio for my daily, but have a m1 mbp 13" 8gb because of the fan - which I never hear. I'm just a business owner but I do a lot of webinars. I was rocking a mbp 16" m1 pro and then mbp 13" but I wasn't using the 16" as a laptop so I saved some money and got twice the computer.
Thanks to Costco for their 90- day return policy!!
The 8gb mbp regular m1 is still really impressive and great for my workflow when I'm remote.
Yes, that return policy is very nice. I still think this combo is perfect. That’s awesome that you’re rocking with this setup and that it’s working well for you.
wo your are using capture one! :) didn't know about that! damn after seeing what base studio can do studio is tempting so much :P but I will drive m1 mini to its limits before its time to replace it. thank you
Yeah, it’s not bad with these M1s. Not the most optimized (yet), but you can use it on these machines.
@@KevinRossRN the update with new silicon capture one is coming soon. stay tuned
I’m ready.
Pretty interesting analogy
Ha! Well, I guess it worked? 🤷♂️😉
Hi Kevin, this was the combo that I have planned for myself. I have a MBA M1 with 16GB and wanted to swap my MacMini i7 against a Mac Study M1 Max. However, the noise of the Mac Studio has crossed out this alternative - sadly...
That’s unfortunate about the noise. Are you mostly doing audio work, or just a matter of annoyance?
I am doing some audio work, but mostly I am used to working in a silent „studio“ since I have purchased my first MBP in 2009… I don‘t like to have a constant noise level, whilst it is „ok“ to have a fan kicking in when there is heavy workload. But this is just a small percentage of the day.
Gotcha. Yeah it’s interesting to hear (no pun intended) about the fans in the studio. I just can’t hear them, and I assume my hearing is pretty on point.
However I also have a NAS in a cabinet that is audible in the room, not loud, but you can detect it, however it must drown out whatever the studio is doing.
Not to mention that I still can’t get these fans to spin up over idle.
But totally get it. If you need the silence then that’s what you need.
But as far as that M1 mini, now that thing is dead silent.
Maybe an update with M2 could be your go to solution.
That’s exactly going to be my setup with Mac Studio and MacBook Air combo… I have toyed with the idea on 14 inch MacBook Pro but it is just a bit too heavy for daily commute to work. MBA is perfect for my regular work… can’t wait for the new M2 MBA!
There you go. For travel and performance, hands down it is just really hard to beat.
Can you really feel the 0.32 kg difference between the MBA and 14” MBP ?
@@Ken-dm5xt for me yes
@@degs88 Fair enough. I guess for people who really appreciate maximum portability in their workflow, I can see how it can make a big difference. I’m really considering getting a MBA.
@@degs88 Is it a hassle having two separate Mac machines set up? I've always thought it's a lot simpler having one machine that can be both a laptop and a desktop.
Thought the same thing for the price of an M1 Max 16" MBP you could get the Studio and the Air, feels like a better bang for the buck
I know, right?
Hi, and I’ve just inherited a 27” 2013 iMac, 3.2 Ghz, 16/1TB (Mojave) and it works perfect . - . My normal daily workhorse is a 13” 2015 Retina MacBook Pro, 2.9 Ghz, 16/256 (Big Sur) - and it works perfect, too. The questions: which of these machines should I use as my daily desktop driver? And is it worth keeping them both?
Congrats on these machines. So do you care about portability at all when it comes to the MBP?
Also, are you looking to sell one of these or just pass it along?
@@KevinRossRN Its a funny thing - the MBP stays on my home desk 90% to 95% of the time, (and it's newer), but I love the huge screen from the 27".... Right now, I use two 24" monitors for the MBP....I guess I'm looking for what someone else has done in such a predicament. I'm the only real Mac user here at home, so no one else here is listening to my problems! LOL Can I use the 27" on the desk, (store the MBP away) and have both machines have the exact same info on both - so no matter which one I use, I can do what I need?
So if you’re logged into your iCloud account on both machines, it’ll sync up your browser history, photos, messages, etc.
However you’d likely need to have a larger iCloud storage plan, but if you do then it’ll also sync documents.
I use a combo of iCloud and a network attached storage where all of my media files are. But I’m definitely someone that uses multiple devices pretty regularly and usually with pretty good success. I agree though, that 26 inch display is nice.
Well argued case
I appreciate that. Glad to have you here.
Let’s talk about your t-shirt and cap … nice stylin bro
Yeah, I’ve seemed to head back to my roots of a bit more antiestablishment…so to speak.
Used to be the shirt and tie kind of guy, but now I wear the same thing to my more “formal” meetings.
I spent a little time on my girlfriends MacBook Air 11" from 2014... wow I loved that tiny little thing after years of 15-16" MBP's. I think a studio + the newest air M2 would be perfect combo. You have the ultimate desktop setup, then the ultimate portable setup. Unfortunately I think 16" makes the most sense for me since I spend half my time traveling and I simply need that 16" screen real estate. I have analysis paralysis... I NEVER ever would've wanted a mini or air, but now Mac line up is so good and fast enough I have so many combinations I could get to replace my 2019 intel i9.
Do you think you’d need the 16 inch Max, or could you manage with the M1 pro chipset? Depending on what you’re doing of course.
If the rumors are true that the MacBook Air could eventually ship with a 15 inch screen then that’s going to put everyone’s analysis paralysis to work 😀
These little desktops though are really amazing to work on. The mini is still the best bang for the buck.
@@KevinRossRN yeah an air M2 15" could be pretty sweet, man that would kill me. I don't like having two different machines but what I like about your proposed combo is redundancy- as a pro I've had to send in my machine for repair, had machines break, forgotten it at home (that's how I ended up on my gf's 11" air lol), etc so having two machines that I actually use gives me peace of mind.
for most my design work I think RAM is more important than CPU. I think I'd get along just fine with M1 pro, especially for when I occasionally get the photography bug and start editing photos. A MBP makes the most sense for me but for my home office the studio just beckons me...
Ah yes, the trap of multiple devices. Necessary? Not always.
Nice to have? A solid yes.
Yeah, even with the efficiency of swap on these machines I still like to bump that RAM up because I’m finding more and more that I’ll use it all, and then some.
I got the Studio base model. I had a 2017 iMac before. I never had a problem importing analog video with a Canopus ADVC-100 device. Since then Premere Pro has changed to Pro 2022 . Im using all the same equipment except the Studio and the new Premere pro 2022 software. Most of the premere options in editing mode are grey in color in the menus top of screen, and can't be used. Even if I try my DV Cam with firewire port conected the usb thunderbolt port on the studio. Nothing. Pleeeeeeeeese Help !!
Are you by chance able to dial back to a previous version of Premiere Pro to check and see if it’s the actual update that has broken this functionality?
@@KevinRossRN I tried 2022 and 2023 no luck. I also have a new Studio. Worked fine with iMac And older version of Premere.
Im not great with the settings in Premere. Almost all options are greyed out.
It’s likely not just the device, but rather the upgraded version of Premiere. That would be my guess. However, Premiere has tried to make updates to the software to work better on these silicon devices.
I’ve never really had issue with Premiere on my PCs, but it really has not been a great (stable) experience on Mac for me.
Can you dial it back even earlier? Also, have you tried the newest version on your iMac? Just curious to see if it’s Premiere trying to accommodate silicon and inadvertently removing features because it’s not playing well with that updated chipset.
Ok, now it's starting to get creepy (or a sign that we're both geniuses) b/c this is exactly the same setup I'm considering, ie M1 MacBook Air 16GB Ram and base-level Mac Studio. The debate is b/t this or a 14" MacBook Pro M1 Max. I'm also considering a 14" MPB M1 Pro but leaning against it as my edits are 9 camera live events with all kinds of framerates, codecs, etc. My 2017 iMac REALLY struggled with the last one. Currently using Premiere but have to switch to Resolve at some point b/c Premiere as about as buggy as that scene from Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom...
I’ll accept that we’re both geniuses. 😉
And can confirm that Resolve would be an awesome switch from Premiere. I have PP on my PCs, but for Mac, it’s either FCPX or Resolve.
Blackmagic has done some great things with this software as of late.
Solid mid-video outfit change 👍🏻👕
Took me less than 3 seconds 😏
🤘
Would u do this with the base model or at least spec it out
Except for the internal storage, the base model is plenty. Based on all my testing, there really is a limit here with these chips right now. They’re amazing, don’t get me wrong, but anything above the base will have a steeper diminishing return…unless you’re into development where more RAM could help.
@@KevinRossRN that’s what I was thinking 🤔 so right now the base is the best, there’s no need to get more Ram for the air, and you’re paying for the storage if you don’t want to carry a dongle thingy around, very insightful! These things are so powerful now! Imagine for $1400 Canadian you have a lightweight MacBook Air that’s more powerful than all the previous intel machines is quite a steal! And light too!
Well, and I should clarify, that for the MBA, definitely get 16GBs of RAM. That will help, and totally worth it…not sure if that’s what you were originally asking about. But for the Studio, yes, that base model is so flipping powerful that anything else really is going to be a harder return on investment.
The extra RAM in that would be more for development and those that like to work with virtual machines.
But that 16GBs of RAM in the MBA will certainly be used.
@@KevinRossRN that’s what I was thinking too, and also there’s that MBA mod, a friend of mine scott balkum talked about it in his live streams editing red Komodo footage on the MBA hack where it over ride the clocking down speeds which I thought was awesome 👏
Oh, I’ll check out that video. I meant to pop over there.
I'm looking at this video again Maybe it'll trigger a few ideas! Thx!
Ha! Well, I hope it helps.
Yes. It did. I like your setup. I’ll try that. Two computers at once. The iMac won’t last forever, and I can use it as a nice monitor later, if need be.
You got that right. It’ll make a great monitor. 👍
My thoughts exactly.
Great video.
One for home and stable and powerful with large monitor mouse and keyboard.
Actually quite portable too, with an added small mouse and keyboard as long as where you are going has a monitor or HDMI tv available, plenty of ports.
One for moving around the house and taking with you everywhere.
Only one USB port when charging making a dongle pretty much a most for anything not usbc.
Can do all the same single threaded apps just as fast, and multithreaded multicore apps, just slower with 16 gb, which I think is needed as ity gpu has no dedicated memory it is shared with the CPU.
This makes external ssds important as a fast way to share data between the two, without the risks of the cloud, privacy, no internet, dropouts, etc.
The biggest legitimate complaints are never any ram SSD or memory upgrades ever.
No egpu upgradeability ever.
Unless apple releases one in the future.
Extremely hard to get parts or repaired anywhere but apple and very high cost out of warranty, and no cash back if you do not use the warranty at all.
You can build your own PC or buy more powerful Intel and amd systems for cheaper, with the exceptions of some apps that make use of the video media engine encoders rendering chips, and even then it's close, plus you get way more apps optimized for x86 like 3d cad games, plus even more ports and upgradeability of ram SSD GPU CPU and multiple places to buy parts and get repairs. But windows😞 or Linux😕
So if I could have 3 systems total, that would be studio air and rtx based pc laptop or tower.
That would cover all my bases.
But to be honest a recent phone keyboard mouse and large display is all I really need.
We are spoiled and competition is good.
They will all be considered twice as slow in 2 years when 12k is starting and 8 k is normal.
Funny my phone has been doing 8k for two years, even though I have not used it but will soon as I have bought some clip on lenses for macro and ultra ultra wide and telephoto for moon, insects, nature, landscape and sports. and rumor is the iphone 14 will do 8 k as well as well.
I can’t even imagine when 8K becomes the norm. I still have clients that only want 1080p, which is fine, but I do think we’ll start seeing this pushed on this platform, and then of course we’ll see if this pushes the “industry.”
But to your point I do like have the option of the upgrades and repairs after the fact. I’m leaning into what the next Pro machine will be like and if this will be a true modular piece of hardware.
@@KevinRossRN I hear you, apple may use their mpx pcie based modules exclusively, or with out any seriously fast pcie x 16 or faster upgrade slots, it will be a non starter among current pro users.
I do think it will have general use pcie for raid ssds, more ports, audio cards, ssds, apple branded video and encoder cards, and networking.
And maybe two 10g Ethernet, two digital audio in and out optical like powermac g5 and classic Mac pros, which can be used for adat and other things like optical scanning and 4 usba ports.
As of now all of the Mac chips are totally limited to as you buy it internal upgrade limitations, and locked, they can never be made faster or larger, because the bandwidth of thunder bolt is capped and no current docks have figured out how to increase the bandwidth by combining more than one ports together.
That's a huge bottle neck of epic proportions, when you have a workstation class product.
That is not upgradeable. Even the trashcan Mac allowed ram SSD and egpu upgrades. With adapters and hacks.
Apple could introduce an apple only high bandwidth port, but with it only being in the Mac pro, virtually no one would make products for it, unless all of the apple line uses it and even then market share is low compared to x86.
But it will probably start at $4- $6 k.
Not more because it is cheaper to make using apple m1 chips glued together.
No Intel or AMD tax, just apple.
Yeah, I agree and I think that these machines could land in that price point which differentiates it from the ultra studio, so I’m sure we could see this starting at 4999 to 5999.
Can u plug a Mac studio into a Mac book
You mean to be able to extend the display?
Another Kevi Rose Banger
Appreciate that. And just glad to have you here. 🤘
The Air M1 it’s all most people will ever really need for the time being. My only caviat is the ram which even with 16gb does Max out often. But really only when using a lot of layers in davinci resolve for example.
The m1 is handling resolve way smoother than my desktop i7 10700k with a dedicated gpu 2060 s and Samsung nvme‘s .
I really don’t know what kind of magic is happening with Resolve, maybe it’s black magic 😉
But it really is smooth.
This is architecture is something else. Would be curious to see if the next iteration will allow for more RAM.
That would definitely confuse the MBP market.
What game was that at 6:05?
Genshin Impact. Pretty fun.
THIS!
Right there. 🤘

Thanks for taking the time to respond! Your content and attitude stand out from others lately.
I'm currently deciding between the M1 MBA 16/1TB and the base model MBP M1 Pro 16" (I'm testing both rn) as a sidekick for a base model Studio Max which will soon be delivered.
By the way, it's not easy to pair the M1 MBA with a 5k2k ultrawide monitor, the scaling is messy and quite limited.
Cheers 👊🏾
Yeah the scaling is where I’m hoping this is going to be fixed in these next machines.
I love the MBP along with the studio, however I’m finding some redundancy where I’m just choosing the MBP over the studio because it’s just as capable.
Totally on board with this 1-2 combo. I have the Studio Max, because I do most/all my work at a desk, so that's my priority, but I plan to get a nimble but affordable laptop soon, for out of the house or just sofa work, to change things up. I'm in no massive hurry, so I'll prob may hang on to see it the M2 Air shows up this year.
Yeah, for the price it’s such a capable device for in the move. I love typing notes on the iPad, however I also find the struggle between that and the MBA because I can just do so much more software wise.
Glad to have you here hanging out.
🤘
There you are. 🤘
Future proofing is straight up foolish. I did that with the 2013 Trashcan and the software never caught up to take advantage of it. I say buy what you need now, worry about later...later.
You got that right. 😉🤘
Is it possible to get your reply?
There’s always a chance.
@@KevinRossRN Wow,so surprised hahaha.
I surprise myself. 😉
