@@icompletelyagreewithu9989 There's a lot of europeans playing the Euroleague every year that are way better than a lot of americans playing in the NBA. You make it sound like Doncic was playing against "average europeans who are not good enough the play in the NBA".
I know you said commentators, which is not directed at people like me, so I understand you are not insulting all of us, I can only hope that you don't think all of us are like this. Seriously I was more upset than you, as an american, with the way they were treating donic. He *won the mvp* as a boy playing against grown ass men, whoever thought he wouldn't walk into the league and be excellent clearly just doesn't know enough basketball or holds too heavy of a bias against international players
And what amazes me is that those commentators are incapable of learning their lesson. Porzingis, Yao, Ginobli, Doncic and a dozen more this century.... don’t they even consider that MAYBE they should look into basketball out of US more seriously? That MAYBE they’re being dumbs and blind to the fact that young players overseas are playing professional basketball for real money with tough adults.... no, they’ll do the same bs with the next non ncaa big prospect
Not in the way you're implying. Showing them up would be playing this well and they hadn't even discussed him in the top "ten" of the draft or something. Almost everyone had him in the top two or three. Most of the attention in America is going to be on American hoopers. Understandable. It'd be hard for most talking heads in America to guess at a number one pick being an overseas player that they really haven't been watching like Max admitted to with Doncic also.
I remember telling my friends luka was the best prospect since lebron and the most complete player to ever come out. A lot of them thought I was crazy. But playing in the 2nd best league in the world at 16 and winning the mvp of that league at 17 should of been the indicator that he’s the European “chosen one” but most people brushed it off like it wasn’t impressive
It is very different kind of 'wrong' however. Porzingis' talent was mostly scouted in pre-draft workouts, he was probably close to top 100 players in Euroleague. Good, not great, with potential. Doncic's Eurloleague career was like a nuke vs KP's hand grenade. Totally different magnitudes. Doncic entered NBA as a grown man, KP entered NBA like a big question mark.
Luka was definetely better but it would’ve been a huge surprise if Ayton didn’t go one. It was a situation in which Ayton had been projected 1 for a while. I’m not saying Luka isn’t better because Luka is better, but hindsight is 20/20 and Phoenix has seen better from Ayton now that he has some guys around him and are trying
Luka is a better player, but Ayton is 22 starting for a legitimate contender, playing absolutely fantastic in these playoffs. Suns wouldn't be as good as they are if you swap Luka and Ayton. They need Aytons defense more than Lukas offense.
Ayton was the safest pick in the draft, he was at the bare minimum gonna be a quality starting center on the both ends of the ball, Luka and Trae were riskier but with higher ceilings
Honestly, Ayton might be better than Luka and that 1st pick is well deserved for him. It's just that they played with a bunch of ball hogs and a subpar coach so Ayton hasn't shown his full potential. This year is a better opportunity for him since they have Monty Williams for head coach now.
If you guys would pay attention to what Stephen A said.. He agreed there was an argument for Luka as the #1 pick had Phoenix had not been the team to have that pick. The Suns badly needed a young big, Not another guard like they draft every season. They made the right choice for their team, Luka is clearly the better player. He never argued against that.
The Hip-hop Underworld don’t oversell Ayton’s defensive ability. Of course he put up decent numbers, there isn’t anybody else on his team to grab boards lol. Same can be said about Luka, but don’t always believe what the stats say. I live in AZ and most of basketball fans here aren’t sold on him. We aren’t even sold that Booker is staying in 3 years.
hes better than sas and gives waaaaay more props to guys like porzingus, luka, kawhi, siakam, giannis etc unlike sas who loves to suck up to bron, KD, curry cause they are more popular
Exactly I really think he gone be a problem but it's something about Phoenix that just ain't right. They need some help too much talent keeps coming to suck that bad.
@@joashmacaraan2236 They have to start to defend. All of the best teams committ to defense. The Warriors were an unreal offensive team but they were also a Top 5 defense, a couple times No. 1. Luka is the Mahomes of the NBA. They are both transcendent talents that will be the face of their respective leagues for years to come (barring injury of course)
Well...I have to agree with Steven A.S for once... Living in Europe, I knew and still know that Luka is an amazing player, I would have take him 1st with no 2nd thought except...if I was Suns' GM. I mean, they clearly needed a big man, with Booker being the franchise player playing at the same position , I doubht it would have been a great fit for Luka, actually I'm glad he ended up in Dallas
Jaren Jackson is the 2nd best rookie behind Doncic and he was right. Trae was the worst defender in the NBA last season and Jaren Jackson is a lot more versatile with size and has huge upside since he is already a decent shooter
To be fair Stephen A wasn’t really wasn’t doubting doncic, he was just saying that the Suns are so bad that they just had to get to get the sure thing so to speak. Even though we know Doncic is the better player now at the time of the draft it was debateable between Doncic and Ayton
The Suns had/have no defense so Ayton was still the right pick. Not sure if Fox & Doncic would coalesce with the Kings either. Doncic is perfect for Smith-less DAL.
Doncic was pretty much a guarantee though. You could roll the tape, see what he did against professional competition from a very young age. Folks been talking and hyping Luka* up for years, he wasn't unknown. I think he was much more of a surefire pick than anyone, but there is a European bias. And Ayton still has time he isn't a bust, the Ayton pick was not really a mistake, the Hawks trading Luka* was the mistake, I'd take 1 Luka* over 2 Trae Young's...sorry not sorry.
DeAndre Ayton isn't bad though. It's like taking Olajuwon over Jordan. The Rockets still got a great player, one with slightly less upside but also less risk.
@Bang JosOlajuwon is easily the 3rd best Center of all time so no he wasn't good,he was one of the best ever and at the time I would of taken Hakeem over MJ too, he was more polished at the time and he didn't take as long to develop. MJ needed 3 years to develop then a few more just to get out of the first round of the playoffs until Pippen got drafted.
Bang Jos don’t disrespect Hakeem. You can’t really predict what’s gonna happen in 10 years. The draft always focus on what the team needs in short term and long term. If MJ went first, he wouldn’t have won all of his championship. There are so many intangible factor we have to consider. MJ is better than Hakeem but you can’t disrespect Hakeem like that.
Stephen A was right about Phoenix, it worked out and they needed a center sometimes the #1 pick isn’t the best players it’s who the team needs and they needed Ayton over Luka and now they in the finals
Watching this video a year later and most of these players have been productive for their teams this year. Most of the top 20 picks have been great for their respective teams! Best draft in a while.
I loved all the talk about how we can trust his competition. The Euroleague is the second highest level of competition in the world and he was lighting it up. The fact that he wasn’t a slam dunk first overall pick was proof that the NBA still has preconceived notions and prejudices against euro players.
I actually like what Stephen A said about Ayton. Coming from AZ, it made sense to draft him. Obviously Ayton hasn't lived up to a #1 pick, but I still think the Suns made the smart choice at the time.
My question is, you’re a scout and there’s an 18 year old Euroleague MVP on the board. In what world does drafting anyone else make sense? You have the best prospect of all time served to you on a platter and you pick an athletic bigman?
@@jeffhardy6333 it was definitely a result of other foreign prospects failing in the NBA. It feels like there is still a stigma to European talent despite them currently dominating the league. Either way, Ayton have the Suns their best chance at a title in my opinion.
It’s always fun to come back and see these videos 😊 Max: “Luka Doncic, who apparently doesn’t react well to pressure on the ball” 😂😂😂 Luka: “Alright, let me just show you how I’m the coolest mf in the game”
He's out splashed my expectations. I knew he'd be good. Like 20pg 7a 7 Reb a game good but not triple double great. I'm glad Dallas took that gamble giving up an extra 1st rounder for him. I'm more excited that I'm from Dallas and I get to watch greatness as a MFFL for the next ten plus yrs enjoying his potential of greater success
I despise Stephen A. Smith most of the time but I don't think he was really wrong in both clips. As I understand it, he says Phoenix should pick Ayton because he fits with what they need and doesn't take Doncic into consideration. Anyway we could argue that he missed the potential FP that he was. On the other hand, he recognizes the talent of Doncic after the season, only stupid people don't change their mind.
Young City Bandit To me when it comes to the top few picks the only thing that should matter is who’s the best player, regardless of positional need. The top picks are the guys who may go on to be stars and I’m looking for the best absolute player no matter what. DBook and Doncic may seem like an awkward fit, but if they could go back they’d obviously pick him over Ayton. Of course, at the time we did not now doncic would be the absolute beast he is now so I’m definitely not blaming the suns for passing on him because Ayton was a reasonable pick, I’m just saying that I don’t think they shouldn’t use position as a reason not to draft a guy when your dealing with the next stars of the league. Pick the best player, fill in positional needs with later picks and free agency/trade market.
That's my point like luka and Booker arent a good duo. Donic is a savy playmaker. Booker hits tough shots when he has the ball. It's not a good combo. One wins you games by scoring his way through the other wins you games by making sure everyone does their part.
Zach Hachey he definitely was wrong 😂. They needed another ball handler to go with Booker, regardless of size Luka is basically a pg. now they had to sign Ricky Rubio to a 3 year deal... it wasn’t the right choice then nor is it in hindsight
Caleb Francis we could have taken Mitchell Robinson in the second round. We could have picked up boogie this year. We could have picked up WCS this year. We could have traded for Stephen Adams. Competent role playing centers who do dirty work are easy to get in the league. I believe in booker in ayton but we definitely made the wrong choice at the time and in hindsight it looks worse
erik ripley I think Ayton will be great don’t get me wrong, but after watching Luka play at the age of 16 and 17 against adults and get the MVP award, it seems like that’s the guy no question
Would’ve taken Ayton at one at the time, but I still conceded that luka would be the best, I just didn’t think booker and doncic would have been good defensively
@@CraigMcGuinn even so , the sun's made it to the finals with their pick. There no precedent that Luka can take a team that far. They still made the best pick for their team, then and now.

SAS ain't trashing Luka , he is saying Ayton need to be number 1 cause the dude is a top prospect who lives in the same place as where the team is based at, if it was any other team , you can debate between Luka and Ayton but the Suns had no choice Ayton was the safer pick choosing any1 else they'd get booed hard by the fans , and people act like Ayton is trash smh, the dude averaged a double double in his rookie year Ayton at no.1 was not a mistake
Stephen A. Smith was right about Ayton he fit absolutely perfect with the suns, Of course Luka is better but it’s not about that it’s what’s better for the team and the suns needed a big man like Ayton, the suns are about to win the Finals in my opinion, and in game 1 Ayton almost had 20 and 20 but didn’t secure that last rebound, Luka is better and special but for the suns Ayton was perfect fit.
In the NBA draft you take the best available player with the highest upside. GMs who pick fit fail every time dating back to Portland going with Sam Bowie over MJ

Anyway we could argue that he missed the potential FP that he was. On the other hand, he recognizes the talent of Doncic after the season, only stupid people don't change their mind.
Exactly. How would Luka and Booker even work together? It makes no sense

@@Longpipejanglet be honest the suns regretting not getting luka after they humilated them in the conference semis that destroyed their franchise and choose to change key players including trading ayton LOL.even not luka there is so many better players than Ayton in that draft class but what they pick is what they pick so no regrets i guess?😊
What about now tho? It looks like a mistake to me.
@@andresgriborio6348 It wasn't the Suns needed a big more than they needed another guard.
Stephen A. Smith was right about Ayton he fit absolutely perfect with the suns, Of course Luka is better but it’s not about that it’s what’s better for the team and the suns needed a big man like Ayton, the suns are about to win the Finals in my opinion, and in game 1 Ayton almost had 20 and 20 but didn’t secure that last rebound, Luka is better and special but for the suns Ayton was perfect fit.
haha they would trade straight up in a heartbeat..they would suck dicks to make it happen too
In the NBA draft you take the best available player with the highest upside. GMs who pick fit fail every time dating back to Portland going with Sam Bowie over MJ
The biggest mistake is Kings picking Bagley over Luka tbh
