Giannis went from averaging 8ppg in one of the worst leagues in the world to a top 3 nba player it’s not about the talent in the leagues it’s about the time and work they put in when no one is watching. Do they have a will to be great? Them should be the questions GMs should be asking
Well said. The amount of work Giannis has put since his draft is insane. From an incredibly thin, long teenager playing in the 2nd tier Greek league, to today's muscular, freak of an athlete. Unparalleled work ethic. Dirk was the same; having been discovered practically in obscurity, putting the work year after year and ending up one of the greatest in history. Talent alone means nothing, it's all about the work and the mentality. I hope Luka keeps improving, cause the talent sure is there.
Mavs is literally the perfect place for this kid. Great coach, good supportive players that can help Luka to adapt and develop. And of course Dirk. Mavs are less likely to make the playoffs but they are still competing.
Jeff T I believe that Doncic will be an all-star but Ayton will be better due to his higher ceiling... just cause he’s getting way more media attention now doesn’t mean he will be the best in the end

I think it is not really important which overall pic someone is, Nikola Jokic has been #42 and now between top 5 center in league. Talent is important but also and much more hard working, passion and development in next years. When Giannis came from greece/europe he has been looking starved :D and a average talent in greek league..and take a look now, his athletism and between the best top 10 players in league. Lonzo Ball is in his second season but his numbers and develepoment are not really good, Luka Doncic has after 2,5 months in NBA 200% of Lonzo his stats...Ayton and Young have also much better numbers than Lonzo, seems like Lonzo is not a great talent or lazy, no development : )
In what world was this ever a risk, the dude has been playing against grown men since he was 16 and he won the MVP of the second best league in the world at 18, in what fucking world is drafting someone like that a risk?! The dude was obviously the most prepared and special player in the draft. It's one thing to not take the guy but any GM's who thought this guy was "a risk" to draft, I mean they should just be out of a job.
Ralph Dixon seriously? Luka couldn’t care less. All he wanted was to play in NBA. Not even for the money or glory, but because he was told the best players are there. Chinese would pay him better, but the best players are supposedly in NBA, so he wanted to play with them. Luka is all about the game. And he’s having a ball. The only thing, that’s driving him crazy by now, is losing games. I’m waiting patiently till he figures it out. And when he does, I might just buy that NBA pass and stay up half of the night.
It’s unbelievable that a team that hired his former coach (the Suns) and a GM who should have tremendous insight on European basketball (Vlade for the Kings) both passed up on Luka. Easily the most talented player of his age to come out of Europe ever.
Because GMs are just dumb. Everyone and their mother saw Luca play and said he would be good. But GMs and some fans were so hell bent on saying he's not athletic, and only played in the Euro League. Which made no sense. His ability to aid others while being a good scorer was elite for a rookie.
Gabriel Carrasco They are used to watching black athletes and using the same criteria, except it isn’t working on Luka who doesn’t need that much athleticism to get the ball in and use good judgment on the court. Form and quickness don’t matter if your shots are falling!
The thing is as well, with the training programs that he'll likely be working with, he'll get stronger, develop quicker lateral foot speed and cap out his athleticism (gotta remember he's only 19 and look at how much Giannis managed to change his body, not saying he'll do it to the same extent but still).

That's a little over the top most of the rookies have been performing pretty well and they can't be blamed for that. Before the draft happened I wanted luka to go to the mavs as I thought they had the structure for him to succeed, they had a great coach, they have a great mentor in Dirk it was really the perfect landing spot
The problem that they had back then was everybody kept calling him a "rookie". He was not in the real sense of the word. Being from Europe I was watching the guy before NBA. By the age of 18 helped his team win the gold medal and by the age 19 he was the Euroleague MVP AND Euroleague Finals MVP. I don't undertstand really where the "risk" was..
It's not that European players don't translate. It's the fact the majority of them played basketball at the wrong time. I think luka is like the majority of European players, but he entered the league at the perfect time

Nic Wareham bitch u act like trae young trash. He’s good. And will be good for years to come. Stop overreacting. Because no one knew curry would be this good in his draft class until years later
But young isnt curry. Curry his rookie year was shooting 46% from the Floor and 43% from 3. Young not so much, i honestly think Youngs best comp is Nash, Nash needed a few years in the league before he played at a high level and when first started games wasnt shooting well but eventually became a star. Young i think has that same potential and could be an amazing floor general.
I love how the mavs players were already raising their hands evenbefore the ball hit the rim. They just know that magic can happen at any time. Shame they could not pull the win. amazing game though
Not only has he more experience since he has been playing professional for 4 years (since he was 15). But he also has international experience too playing for his country. College players while good cannot compete with that experience.

Giannis went from averaging 8ppg in one of the worst leagues in the world to a top 3 nba player it’s not about the talent in the leagues it’s about the time and work they put in when no one is watching. Do they have a will to be great? Them should be the questions GMs should be asking
You're right but he isn't top 3
@@glassjabari umm...yes he is
Lil Dagga Well obviously every young player is going to say to the GM that they have the will to be great. So that would be a pointless question tbh
bad comparison. It took Giannis like 5 years to get to the point Luka is at at 19...
Luka, keep on rolling! You are the best. Greetings from Latvia.
Mavs is literally the perfect place for this kid. Great coach, good supportive players that can help Luka to adapt and develop. And of course Dirk. Mavs are less likely to make the playoffs but they are still competing.
Scottie you break my subwoofer again!😂🤣
They say this like the whole league passed on him and not like 4 gms
Dusy Pettis
4 GMs passing on the best player in a draft is pretty sad
Jeff T I believe that Doncic will be an all-star but Ayton will be better due to his higher ceiling... just cause he’s getting way more media attention now doesn’t mean he will be the best in the end
Nope.....the grizzlies didn’t regret at all. Choosing jaren jackson jr was an excellent decision
2 GMs passed on him. He was picked 3rd!
@@DKwari but he was traded to the Mavs so it is kinda like 4 considering JJJ went to Memphis
Espn please stop! The man was the 3rd overall pick stop acting like he slipped out of the lottery. MJ was 3rd overall, Kobe was 13th, Stephen Curry was 7th, it happens get over it!
KOBE was the 16 th pick bro
@@POKRETBAND Giannis' athleticism was never in doubt, it was the skill level, and the fact he didn't play much.
None of them were discriminated against like luka was tho
@@DwadeFL4SHMV3 an opinion isn't discrimination. He still went top 5.
He got better as the year progressed. It's gonna be a fun second season for Lulu and Porzingis.
Luka is just amazing and so long as he's in a system that can make him thrive he'll be one of the best no doubt.
The ghost of Darko Milicic still looms large in the minds of GMs across the league.
Yeah, but players like Kwami, Olawukandi, Anthony Bennett and such get a free pass. Only when they are Euros is it a "real" bust.
This guy is a treasure all the way around !
And 4 years later he is still making people regret passing up on him. Dude just dropped a 60/20/10 burger. A record.
Rachel's monologues only get longer and more unnecessary. Video starts at 3:20.
I'm calling that she is getting ready to move on to another job. Essentially, showing what she got.
This Bitch always likes to talk too much and wanna be the spot light rather let the NBA legends talk
It's her show. She makes the show better.
Ben Harris she be taking slick jabs to. Like at MJ in the beginning
Her makeup looks weird today.
At the end of the season he averaged 21.2 points 7.8 rebounds and 6 assists
Wasn’t he drafted 3rd overall? I thought that “show everybody who didn’t pick me” mentality was meant for people who slipped to later in the draft
Ralph Dixon you’re joking right? If someone gets drafted 2nd overall they use that as fuel 🔥 it’s called being competitive
He was but in a predetermined trade to dallas that had the 5th pick.
Hawks only drafted him at 3rd to make that trade with Dallas work; they had no intention of actually going with him
If it's any coincidence, MJ was also drafted as 3rd pick. It didn't stop the blame game on the team (Portland) that passed on him.
Cuban might make a lot of stupid decisions, but his decision to trade trey young (and cam reddish) for luka was the perfect choice
I would neck if i passed on a generational talent like Luka Doncic will be the face of nba pretty soon!
wusad facebook.com/groups/967348520070287/
It's the experience and confidence he has that is helping him to achieve this accomplishments
It’s unbelievable that a team that hired his former coach (the Suns) and a GM who should have tremendous insight on European basketball (Vlade for the Kings) both passed up on Luka. Easily the most talented player of his age to come out of Europe ever.
The kings made the worse mistake to be fair
As a Hawks fan, I'm glad we got Trae but keeping Luka would've been amazing
@TV World inc "Atlanta are racists"

"dunked on patrick ewing really hard"
This is what a Generational Rookie looks like unfolding in our Eyes. I am blessed to see Jordan, Lebron, Curry and now Luka.
man cant imagine if Pippen and mutombo talk at same time their voice gonna be best ESMR on youtube ever ! ! ! ! !
Quiet down only two passed on them and they both got great players
The thing is as well, with the training programs that he'll likely be working with, he'll get stronger, develop quicker lateral foot speed and cap out his athleticism (gotta remember he's only 19 and look at how much Giannis managed to change his body, not saying he'll do it to the same extent but still).
It's because they want home grown athletes. American pride and all that bullshit. And here's the result.
@@cryptidian3530 it's not American pride..I'm not American but the Americans dominate the sport they have the best players and they won 16 of the 18 basketball Olympics..
Luka doesn't have a ceiling, ceiling has Luka.
I want Scottie Pippen to record an audiobook or something.
Man…i miss Rachel Nichols’ monologue. Now we get Skip, Perk, and Stephen A.
Even today when you see Doncic play not that impressed many times, but then you look at stats and you note that he has 18-20 points, and 6-8 rebounds and assets. He does have a lot of turnovers, but just a rookie in the NBA. He does play well in the clutch.
How many EU players came to the draft as MVP players of EUROLEAGUE as 19 years old? So there was no comparison with the rest of EU players at the draft. ESPN and the rest keep forgetting that as 18 years old was chosen on Eurobasket 2017 (Slovenia won a championship with winning every single game on championship with Doncic and Dragic) in the team of 5 best players of Eurobasket championship in the company with Gasol, Porzingis, Dragic... so actually he already played with and against NBA stars as 18 years old so... was he really a risk or mystery? was really a question will his game translate to NBA if he already played with and against current NBA stars and ex NAB stars... at age of 18 years old?
All that means is he's got a lot of mileage on him. And it's been proven he's got very little lateral movement.
He's average, nothing special. Calm down.
@@dlxinfinite7098 Becuase he is average he is in the group of the best rookies ever (Larry Bird, Micahel Jordan...), because he is average NBA players from the opposite team after the games shaking hands with him and telling him he is something special, because he is average ESP and their guests saying he is something special... and you.... Just remember Luka was in Euroleague when he was 13 years old and won the Euroleague mvp as well don't sleep on this kid he is a rookie that reads plays like veteran I am not just hopping on the bandwagon two things I want him to improve is having a faster jumper and do more shot creating rather than coming off screen and use sloppy dribbling to put up a shot.

Suns shouldn't be blamed for taking Ayton, he's going to be a beast and big men are hard to find. But Sac, ATL and even Mem, because they could have made the same trade as Dallas, all are pathetic front offices.
He is too slow for Sacramento they play a different way
@@jamaica1551 You're fuckiing dumb
For a player like that, you take them and adjust the way your team plays to accommodate them as well
That's a little over the top most of the rookies have been performing pretty well and they can't be blamed for that. Before the draft happened I wanted luka to go to the mavs as I thought they had the structure for him to succeed, they had a great coach, they have a great mentor in Dirk it was really the perfect landing spot
Bo Rood Atlanta is rebuilding hard. We don’t need a centerpiece right now
I just love Scottie's voice. i wish to have that when i grow up.
The problem that they had back then was everybody kept calling him a "rookie". He was not in the real sense of the word. While all the others "rookies" were just about to play in a mens league (NBA), Donćić was already a real seasoned veteran for years in a "mens" league while he was still a kid AND was the MVP ...AS A KID!
“Dunked on Patrick Ewing really hard”💀
this is false no one slept on him but some teams had Ayton and Bagley higher on their draft boards... if u want an example of a player being slept on, look at guys like Donovan Mitchell, Jokic and Booker who picked in the late lottery or later. in fact a lot of teams including the mavericks had him at no. 1 on their draft boards
The Atlanta Hawks gotta feel STUPID, trading Luka Doncic to the Mavs!! Barring Injury, This kid is the FUTURE, of the Mavs & the NBA!!
YEP. Hawks would be selling a ton more seats had they kept Luka. Not sure what they were thinking by taking the extremely slight-of-build, weak defense, streaky Trae Young.
Poor Trae. If he becomes anything short of a superstar, it'll be clear the Hawks made a bonehead move.
@@monkeyb1820 Agreed! But the Hawks needed IMMEDIATE scoring, since Dennis Schroeder left.. But Atlanta are like the "Cleveland Browns" of the NBA!! They never draft well & passing on Luka Doncic, was a huge mistake
it sounds like Luka was pretty much a known quantity. The hawks were obsessed with taking Trae Young. Trae has had some good games--but Luka looks like a sure thing. Worst bungling since they bungled their signing of Julius Erving.
I think Dallas would go all in just to get Luka from Hawks. They will trade the entire team just to get him and that leave Atlanta NO choice. Lol
Dallas loves international.
They always love to explore talents internationally
Being from Europe I was watching the guy before NBA. By the age of 18 helped his team win the gold medal and by the age 19 he was the Euroleague MVP AND Euroleague Finals MVP. I don't undertstand really where the "risk" was..
It's not that European players don't translate. It's the fact the majority of them played basketball at the wrong time. Look at European players and almost all of them can pass, dribble and shoot: the fundamentals. That leads into position less basketball, which the NBA has just recently adopted. I think luka is like the majority of European players, but he entered the league at the perfect time
@@EL_XO darko, Dirk, kristaps, luka, gallinari, darko milicic, toni kukoc. A lot of European players can pass dribble and shoot lol

Luka is not a rookie for me. I know him now since a few years playing in the Euroleague - he is a fantastic player and so modest. Best regards from a small german filmmaker 🎬🇩🇪🎥
Luka is amazing and is the best rookie right now. But are we going to ignore the fact that for the last 4 games Deandre Ayton has been averaging 24 PTS 66.7 FG% 16.5 REB 1 BLK

Trae young safer pick then luka....
Said no one ever
Nic Wareham bitch u act like trae young trash. He’s good. And will be good for years to come. Stop overreacting. Because no one knew curry would be this good in his draft class until years later
But young isnt curry. Curry his rookie year was shooting 46% from the Floor and 43% from 3. Young not so much, i honestly think Youngs best comp is Nash, Nash needed a few years in the league before he played at a high level and when first started games wasnt shooting well but eventually became a star. Young i think has that same potential and could be an amazing floor general.
josh omera Curry also spent 3 years in college. Trae young was a one and done. He won’t be near his peak for another 4-5 years.
never said he was at his peak. Also Curry was 21 his rookie year Young 20 so not much of a age difference.
Lol u fucks lukas a better player more pro rdy player thats why he safer lol trae got more upside with a higher ceilin
Apparently Kings coach had little to say on draft day.

Being confident enough to keep trying after every failure is not just a matter of personality, especially at such a young age. It is quite obvious that his team is supporting this and i hope they will be able to reap the benefits once he achieves greatness.
When he was 17, i spected to be with us in RM for 3-4 years, some ACB championships some Euroleague championships then NBA at 21-22 like Pau Gasol did.
I never spected so high jump in so few time; Llull and other RM injuries last year give him responsability and leadership.
