What a fun song this is to play on bass. I finally got down the first part (as I've only been playing for a month) and those quick up & down string notes were killing me. Thanks for this amazing vid my man! You've helped a ton.
@@98leight Hi Leighton! My bass journey is coming up to just over a year and there's not a day that goes by that I dont play. (even if it is just a few songs) I started with a Yamaha and have been eyeing up a Ibanez for a few months. As for my playing, I think the hardest bassline I learnt was Rocket Queen by GNR. Fingerpicking comes naturally now whereas before it was super slow. Using a plectrum is a different story entirely lol.
Wonderful song, I started playing bass about a month ago and I started learning this song about two weeks ago. It’s funny and quite easy to play, I recommend it for beginners like me
love this song. it throws me off, because they are easy riffs, but they repeat slightly different. that's what gets me is when only a few notes are different. either way very fun song to play
Thank you for this video :) I'm going to learn how to play bass soon, and I have no skill in playing music... how long did you take to manage at playing bass ? Are you self-taught ?
I know you didn't ask me this question but coming from a bassist that has been playing for years I think you should start slow and learn the fret board and scales(major and minor) also the best thing I've ever done as a bass player is surround myself with bassists and musicians much better than me and I learned a ton. don't give up and give it some effort and time and you will be great 👍.
@@jackw.2084 thank you very much for this advice! It gives me motivation to learn something completely unknown to me, now I have to find bassist players and a bass 😂 have a nice day
@Kieran Viehweber thanks for your answer :) indeed it depends on what you want : do you want performance or the "blast" as you said and I also think that you dont have to learn each note to have pleasure while playing !
It depends on the part you're singing, the triky thing about singing and playing at the same time is the rythm, since a lot of parts in this bass line are quite simple in terms of rythm, singing over it is quite doable, the harder the rythm, the trikier the singing, but if you practice a lot, you can play while singing on almost every song ;-)
What is a good speed to set a metronome to? I’ve always had the struggle with keeping the same speed and playing with a metronome helps but I cant find the right speed for this song
What version of the song is this? I can't find it anywhere. This compared to the standard version has the voice introducing AM and bass introduction playing twice instead of one
Wrong channel ;-) And proper bassists play with fingers, thumb, pick - whatever it takes to get the right tone. Never mind what Davie says - bass is an instrument, not a religion; do what you have to do to get the right sound out of it.
Years later - this video is still helping people! Great job!
Glad to hear it!

hows it doing
I’ve been playing funk and soul style bass for three years now, and this bass line still drives me insane. Great playing, buddy.
Got it a month ago, I'm attempting it _ok_ ...
and this is isn't even exactly what Nick plays! he really outdid himself with this one

L Csnv I’ve been playing for about a month and it’s not too hard just make it a habit to practice everyday and challenge yourself
I play piano, so I know a bit about music, but after a month I can at least attempt this, though I'm not exactly super-clean

Very good video, do you think is it possible to play this bassline while the bass player is singing?
It depends on the part you're singing, the triky thing about singing and playing at the same time is the rythm, since a lot of parts in this bass line are quite simple in terms of rythm, singing over it is quite doable, the harder the rythm, the trikier the singing, but if you practice a lot, you can play while singing on almost every song ;-)
PS : the fast paced rythm of the lyrics is obviously making it a lot harder for this particular song
totally possible ! just takes some practise and confidence ! i manage just fine
What is a good speed to set a metronome to? I’ve always had the struggle with keeping the same speed and playing with a metronome helps but I cant find the right speed for this song
original song 112 BPM
Thank you so much
Why do some versions start with open notes and others don't? Do they play it two different ways?
same notes different placings
