The Quickest Dinosaur in the World: Ferrari 488 Pista -- ISSIMI DRIVES

- Early on in Ferrari’s history, the idea of building a “race car for the road” wasn’t really on the brand’s radar. At that point, the laws were lax enough that almost any of their racing cars could be driven on the road and frequently were used as transportation to and from the track they would be racing at on the weekend. But as racecars became more specialized and stricter regulations were implemented for road cars, the idea of a race car for the road started to become more appealing to Ferrari and its customers. In the United States, this began with the 360 Challenge Stradale- a stripped-out version of the 360 Modena, the Challenge Stradale offered a far more raw driving experience and gave owners the feeling of being behind the wheel of a race car on their weekend drives around town. This kickstarted a new line of cars from Ferrari that has created some of their most coveted models.
This 488 Pista is just one in a line of absolute masterpieces for the brand. The Pista wasn't well received when new since it was the successor to the sublime 458 Speciale which was naturally aspirated, and because of that, demanded very high second-hand prices over the past couple of years. Still, the Pista is quite a compelling car--especially when judged through the lens of today. Does it hold a candle to the hybridized machines of today or to the raucous engines of yesterday?

Hey, I drove a Pista in Las Vegas on a small closed track for 10 laps on my 75th birthday. I went out with Teo, my instructor, and had a blast! When I came back to hand in my helmet, I looked up to see, to my surprise, I posted the fastest time of the morning. There is a Pista for sale in my area for 500k. I’ve got to start playing the lottery! Thanks for this post, it’s 100 per cent true! Ciao!

everyone seems to say this but I cannot help but love the styling of the 488 over the 458 and as oddly as this sounds, I much prefer the 488 sound also. To each there own

@@AlainSTO Perhaps, sorry. It was just the car dealer / materialist / instagram influencer chintz - salivating over tacky options - was such a contrast with what Derek put out. My mental image of ISSIMI was basically Derek. This video is completely anti-Derek!
@@flat6croc That I'll agree with. I don't want to buy the car because of its options list and how expensive that list was. I want to hear more about the car's character and everything.
I just wouldn't say that's the reason why Derek left or anything that sounds like a dig at the place that gave us what we liked at first.

Just drove a GTB and GT4RS back to back - GTB pulled like a freight train but you got the sense the computer was driving it for you - GT4 was still the more communicative chassis and I actually enjoyed it more.

2 seconds per lap faster on the Fiorano circuit. Substantial, but I would take the naturally aspirated car any day of the week.

Yeah, Hyphen has a shy, toned down personality in his presentation. A nicely thought out voiceover complimented by candid chuckles and exclamations like the memorable "JEEESUS CHRIST on a Triscuit!" as the Stratos wriggled around under throttle. I'm hoping Carmudgeon and his own venture don't burn him out too much (and Camissa for that matter-- love the content, but can tell they're getting wiped out). This is just feels too... excited and generic?

Yeah I also had to do a double take on that one 🤔 but they are incredibly close around Portimao Circuit so maybe he means nearly as quick🤷. But I would take the P1 over pretty much anything any day.
