It's because he's so humble all the time you think you know what he's going to say and for him to say that just goes to show that everything he says is genuine, even a moment where it's the biggest moment in Canadian sports history and rather than (pretend to) downplay it, he's honest (as usual) and says "Uhh, a lot!".
He almost hesitated and seemed like he didn't want to admit it, but he held true to himself and was honest.
Fkin' eh! How can anyone not like Crosby, such a great dude.

Same as James Sweeney: lived in NYC all my life (go Rangers: went to two game 7's in the 90's that we won) but was never so happy in my life when Crosby and Canada won. That is THEIR sport: kids who can barely walk skate on frozen ponds. Our guys are Brady and his 6 S.B.'s, Tiger Woods and his 82 wins (5 Masters), my N.Y. Yankees with Mantle and Jeter, and Michael Jordan and LeBron playing on concrete schoolyard courts. Canadians are the most amazing, likeable, friendly people. They are our neighbors. We had the Miracle On Ice, so this was their turn. Anyway, just MHO

As a Canadian adult I can tell you Parise scoring that nearly killed me. I was in Vancouver when the Olympics were going on and when Crosby scored that goal the whole city and indeed the whole country exploded. This will go down as one of the most iconic hockey games ever. The States were amazing that year and Miller was by far the best goalie in the tournament. Being from Nova Scotia and having Crosby score a goal like was unreal.

What a game. I was raised in Vancouver, and the fact that this game happened the way it did, in my home arena was like something out of a dream. Even when USA started to come back, it was a goal by then Vancouver Canuck, Ryan Kesler. Luongo, the Canucks then goalie was in net, in our home arena.
And then Crosby scored. Good god, the humanity. Best hockey moment in my life bar none.

I was in the air during the game flying home from volunteering at those Olympics. People were gathered around TV's at the airport. Every screen was showing the game. Everyone was watching. During the flight the captain was giving us goal updates including the late US goal and overtime. When we landed, the fire hoses were out on the tarmac spraying water salutes and everyone was cheering and going nuts. Amazing and super special moment in Canadian history. Will never forget it.

We ended up hitting the crossbar in overtime. Then we lost in the shootout. Felt especially bad cause I was the goalie. Sad for us but the other team was a bunch of very happy Canadian kids, Canada still got Olympic gold and I've got a great story.

People often don't realize that at just 24 years old, Sidney Crosby had already won everything in hockey: Stanley Cup, Olympic Gold, World Hockey Championships the big 3 trifecta. He was the golden boy. He was also just about to enter his prime peak in year 6 in the NHL on pace to score 60+ goals and 130+ points when he suffered his first and worst concussion in that outdoor game vs WSH via Steckel Jan.1, 2011. While Crosby did resume his NHL career even though he battled several more concussions and won 2 more Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017, people don't realize at 24 years on Jan.1, 2011, that was the end of prime peak Crosby. We never got to see how good he was about to become. The fact that he was greatest player of his time by far (think about how good Ovechkin was but Crosby was 2x better), he was diminished to only being the best player in the NHL by a nose. Of course, great ones figure out how to adapt their game to survive longer and he did. He had to slow down and become less intense (less physical) and became a much "wiser" player but not as dominant as he was going to become. There's no question he would have scored 50-60 goals a year like Ovechkin as Crosby already had scored 51 the year before and was on pace to score 60+ in year 6 (he ended with 32 goals in just 41 games due to the concussion). He only put up 2 more 100 point seasons after that year for the rest of his career, never touched 50 goals again. But in the end, as long as he found good health again to play and continue his career even though we'd never see him at this peak, I'm glad he still won 2 more cups and he may still have a chance to win one more as the Penguins somehow are in the battle again for a Cup this year in 2022. People will never truly know how good he was going to be even though he's still had an amazing career up to this point.

    • @Connor8609
      @Connor8609 Рік тому

Hes already top 5 all time player. Without the concussions he would be top 3 and be somewhere north of 1800 points in the present on his way to be #2 all time in points.

My favorite part of this was actually the immediate aftermath.
Pittsburgh had a game two days later at home vs. Buffalo.
I was listening to the radio broadcast, and before the game, the PA announcer said, “The Pittsburgh Penguins salute all of the Olympic Athletes participating in tonight’s game,” and then they proceeded to name all the players from both teams who represented their countries in Vancouver.
Second to last player: “Team USA goaltender, Ryan Miller!”
HUGE ovation from the Pittsburgh crowd.
Then… they show the Golden Goal highlight. The crowd BOOS!
    “And your captain…!”
    “BOOOOOOOOOO!”
    “…Sidneeeeeeeey Crosbyyyyyyyyyy!”
    “BOOOO-YAAAAAAAY?”
It was hilarious. Crosby actually got booed for a hot second in Pittsburgh because he beat the USA!

Marleau's pass back to Perry for goal number 2 was one of the greatest hockey plays ever in the Olympics. Hardly anyone talks about it. It was so subtle that it is sometimes missed. Best play of the 2010 Olympics, in my not so humble opinion. :)

The debate of the best is always in the air, but that goal, the golden goal, is why crosby in my eyes is the best from all the greats ive been fortunate to watch over the years

That was an interesting time in Pittsburgh, when the regular season started up after the Olympics, the Pens were playing the Sabres, the fans gave Ryan Miller a standing ovation and they booed Crosby?
