I'm definitely looking forward to diving deep into the Northern Chantry and the relationships between the ruling Mages and Priests, and the Templars. It should be SUCH a shocking difference compared to what we've grown so used to in the South.
I just realized technically we might see Ghil reveal that she kidnapped the magisters upon entering the black city and experimented on them turning them into darkspawn. Kinda like how the architect did his experiments I strongly believe the architect is the one we see in the mural with the two elven gods and i think he is presenting Elgarnan his orb. The Architect could very possibly have been following in Ghil's path this whole time and we never knew.
This sounds like the fight my original HoF was born for. A city elf whose origin story begins with nobles kidnapping his bride. When I'm playing as a Shadow Dragon, I'm seriously going to push for an open rebellion.
Thank you so much for this video Important Goose ! I love Tevinter and it's unique culture, my second character Lleirwg will be a Shadow Dragon from Tevinter while my first character Renart will be an Antivan Crow (half Orlésian half Antivan) would love a video on Antiva next
Glad you enjoyed it! 😁 Having multiple playthroughs is fun. Antiva has to wait, though. It will be a miracle if I manage to post at least 4 more videos about Tevinter that I have in mind. Fingers crossed, my work won't be as demanding as these days 🥹
It would certainly be interesting to see a rebellion in Tevinter but I fear we will be too focused on grander and further-reaching events to do a rebellion story any real justice.
@@anderporascu5026 And? I didn't say there wouldn't be any themes around class rebellion just that it wouldn't get the time needed to make it fully realized. If a revolution happens it will probably be off screen or in a end-game PowerPoint due to the gravitas of the forces we will be primarily concerned with. All that said, I'm willing to be wrong.
@@HelenHunt69 It looks like Neve's personal quest might have something to do with the rebellion as she works with the Shadow Dragons operating from Dock Town in the Tevinter slums. So even if we can't fight in it outright, we might be able to influence the outcome. I hope it will be more than a line or two of text at the end credits though.. As for if it will be a full-on revolution leading to a civil war? Unlikely indeed. Too much is going on with the apocalyptic demons-falling from the skies situation to be planning much more than their own survival and some small guerilla warfare. Though if the magisters would get into any trouble, I assume the Shadow Dragons will be right there to make use of that weakness. We'll just have to wait and see. Soon :D
I have to say, as disturbing as Tevinter society might be - it doesn't creep me out nearly as much as the Qun. Being assigned roles by political / religious commissars, or being lobotomized with magical gas doesn't sound like fun times, even compared to Tevinter. And then you have their totalitarian attitude towards anyone not of the Qun, or the treatment of Mages in their society. I think Bioware tried hard to make the Qun looks more appealing than Tevinter, but if I had to choose - I'd take a distasteful temporary alliance with Tevinter Vs. allying with the Qunari.
I had the opposite impression instead, that of representing the Qun as something pernicious: at best, Bioware was good at representing the better sides of that society through their characters such as Sten or the Iron Bull, but everyone representing religious orthodoxy was always an enemy such as the Arishock or Trappaser's ultimate enemy The Arigena. Of Tevinter, I think they were undecided on how to represent it whether as an enlightened society using magic quietly alongside dark elements such as slavery and the separation of society into social classes and the idea of magic as a divine gift. Dorian represents this contradiction perfectly. If I may speak personally, I think the issue of slavery in Tevinter should be portrayed in a more complicated way: the world of thedas is a place where no country has equality and is ruled by absolute monarchies or oligarchies where the lowest parts of society are treated no better than slaves. Some of the old lore pointed out that in Orlais the nobles were allowed to kill their servants. In this respect, I have always found it hypocritical to criticise Tevinter for slavery when other countries have similar situations. So, they are both complicated nations and I hope they stay that way and don't fall into the good/bad dichotomy. SPOILER Don't you remember that if the Iron Bull remained loyal in the course of DAI to the Qunari, he wouldn't have existed to betray the protagonist even if romanced ?
@@edoardoturco8780 I share your desire for complexity and nuance when it comes to the portrayal of Tevinter, and I agree with the comparison to Orlais and its nobles. As for the Qun, I think Iron Bull and Sten served as somewhat of a fig-leaf, as an attempt to make the society as a whole seem more palatable and less terrifying. At least in my case this attempt failed.
@@edoardoturco8780 I love this comment. Indeed, the more we learn about Thedosian cultures the less attractive they become - to the degree that the only thing really separating Tevinter from places like Orlais or Fereldan & Antiva (at their worse) is that Tavinters don't bother hiding their nastier sides.
@@Billpro25 Yeah, many guys who discovered the saga from Inquisition onwards see the lore as the classic High Fantasy, when the world of Thedas is honestly a dark and horrible place to live, a satire of our own world.

But the freedom of mages is directly countered by slavery. So I'm hyped to see other good things about Tevinter. EA told them to do multiplayer, then they dropped the idea, started making the game from the scratch again, etc. Devs simply didn't have time to code everything. It's a sacrifice that I don't like. However, it's either this, or no game at all. DA franchise is in a bad position because Bioware has little creative control even at marketing. That very first Marvel-like trailer that makes many of us angry? Bioware was against it. People from EA made them use it.
