      Got to laugh at this, back in the 1970s I remember the Dr Pepper ads were so lame I never wanted to taste it. There was even an Urban Legend that Dr Pepper was Carbonated Prune Juice.
      Wasn't until the 2010s sometime when fast food chains had those serve yourself drink dispensers, and I actually tried a sip. and thought it was way better than Coke and Pepsi. Amazing how a total crap ad campaign can ruin sales.

    I just checked out the list. No surprise on how they made it their politically correct , “want list” steeped in woke ideology rather than an actual objective list. I know judging guitarists is subjective but when you have Joe Perry at 135 and Joni Mitchell cracking your top 25, that’s not objective….that’s propaganda. But does this shock anyone? This isn’t a music magazine; it’s a political one, therefore picking top 🎸 becomes yet another opportunity for the clueless social justice warriors of Gen Z that now write this baseless crap to sneak guitarists in that don’t belong their because they share the same genitals and politics rather than being a guitar hero. At the beginning of the list RS states that the list they complied on 2011 were essentially picked by guitarists and leaned classic rock. But now, this “new and approved” list is chosen by writers of RS…in other words, social justice college grads. I knew what that meant. Every other guitarist was female…not that there is anything wrong with females making the list…but are they serious? I didn’t know this many females even played guitar. It’s freaking ridiculous. If RS ever wants to be considered viable by people that actually appreciate music they need to cease their political agenda as it’s obviously seeing into even their guitar lists. What a joke!

Not to mention they also didn't acknowledge any of the quiet yet iconic guitar players such as the Wrecking Crew & the Funk Brothers. Who whether or not you know their names, the guitar work they did on albums as studio guitarists speaks volumes for sure. I mean c'mon no mention of, "Tommy Tedesco, Glenn Campbell, Billy Strange, Barney Kessel, Joe Messina, Robert White, or Eddie Willis. Say what you want, but if it wasn't for those guys right there alone, much less any of the other great studio session players we wouldn't have heard even half of the iconic R&B, Soul, Pop, Rock, & Funk, etc... songs there is today! Just bcuz they were on the DL & not seen on the forefront doesn't make them any less of a guitarist than all the others who were on center stage, IMO anyways. Don't quote me on this but between those 7 guitar players I mentioned, I'd say they've got to be responsible for playing on around at least "7,000" albums. 🤔 Many of which created vibe & riffs on songs themselves, for the artist. Let’s be honest here, folks. RS did this 100% on purpose. Obviously a ranking list like this featuring the “greatest” of anything will have haters no matter what, but they absolutely made it as absurd as they could specifically to get more people talking about it. They knew a whack list like this would get way more of a reaction from people than a “safe” list would. Turns out they were absolutely correct lol. I doubt we’d see anywhere near as many reaction videos or people talking about the list if they had just gone with the obvious, safe choices. I don’t agree with the list either, but let’s not act like it is anything more than a tabloid-level rage bait article. It’s just a garbage junk food magazine at this point, nothing more.

    • @nickvickers3486
      @nickvickers3486 Рік тому +1

      They'd get hate and reaction with a 'safe' list as well! Take any two talented guitarists of different genres and how do you say who's better. E.g. Marc Knopfler v Marty Friedman? Or BB King v Graham Coxon? It's not easy, like comparing football players of different generations. You're not comparing like for like and it's difficult to know what criteria to use...

    • @STSGuitar16
      @STSGuitar16 Рік тому +2

      @@nickvickers3486 yeah m8, I just said they’d get hate even with a safe list 😂😂 but yeah, I think you’re right for the most part. There could possibly be a solution to that by creating some sort of completely objective variable to apply to every guitarist to help decide between two obviously great players. I’m not sure what that objective variable could be, though. Maybe some sort of average score of a few different categories based on things like number of albums sold, number of live shows played, number of charting songs, things like that? Maybe if the two players in question are more or less equal in terms of guitar playing ability, the auxiliary objective score could come in to decide between the two. Of course, then it wouldn’t be a solely guitar playing-based evaluation (which, it’s basically that way now anyway), but it could make for a fun list either way. But yeah, ranking lists like this will always have detractors.

Joni Mitchell #72 (a songwriter extraordinaire but not a good guitarist). Same with Neil Young (in fact he has poor technique). The Edge #24 (he’s only adequate - nobody knowledgeable would rate him this high). OMG are the judges eating out of lead plates. Mark Knopfler #27 (masterful guitarist) Steven Stills #28 (not great). I don't know a lot of guitarists so I honestly wouldn't know most of the names on the list; however, these lists are 100% subjective, and they were clickbait before clickbait was even a thing. If I saw a Rolling Stone magazine in the store that said "250 Greatest Guitarist List!" my interest would've definitely been piqued. I remember when I was in my early teens and I was into bands like Motley Crue and Poison I read an article in one of those rock music or guitar magazines that C.C. Deville was voted "the worst" rock guitarist. As a kid I thought he was pretty damn good. As an adult I still think he's pretty damn good. Is he in the top 250 of all time? Probably not. But he's far from the worst. There are so many guitarists in the world, many whom aren't in famous bands and will never get the recognition they deserve. There are hundreds and thousands of UA-cam and TikTok videos dedicated to unknown guitarists who are insanely talented. But you won't find any of them on this list.

    LOL, you are fact checking yourself a TON in this video.
    WOW- Dave Mustaine and Marty Friedman not on list and Kerry King at 100. That's insane! Mustaine is the best guitarist in all of metal. I can understand them not including Gary Holt. He might actually be as good in terms of skills as Mustaine but Exodus is just not as important of a thrash metal band despite a number of people saying they actually invented it (!!!). The trouble is their debut was released way too late in the scheme of things far behind Metallica's first and second albums when both of those had already changed the landscape. I chalk it up to luck but Holt is actually the best guitarist Slayer has ever had. Sorry, Kerry King. BTW, I've heard say Holt is actually Kerry's best friend.
    I get people getting mad about what you said about Kerry King, by the way. He himself has admitted multiple times to not being the best guitarist. He said Slayer was never about being the most technically great on guitars. He's said that on Reign In Blood he wasn't playing anything that had anything to do with the songs and he was still getting praised, which was funny. And he's said that on South of Heaven that was his worst performance. His explanation was that he had gotten married so he was the odd man out at that point.
    The Judas Priest guitarists are both criminally underrated. It seems like so many want to put the guitarists from Iron Maiden above them but Iron Maiden just turned their guitars into violins. Judas Priest actually treated their guitars like guitars. I even got into an argument with my friend over that saying, "Guitars aren't supposed to be violins." He said, "Yes they are!" Uh, no. One has a pick and the other has a bow. Stop being stupid, people. And what Iron Maiden do is good for Iron Maiden but I Judas Priest have been more effective in putting across rhythms and perhaps even more impressive despite not putting out albums that are as great, they've been more diverse in their styles handling AC/DC open rhythms and covers with equal dexterity besides their own pioneering sound. Plus they're probably entirely responsible for Iron Maiden.
    YES! Dave Mustaine is the best guitarist in all of metal. I could tell before I even started playing guitar. You just know it on an instinctual level.

      But I'll give you this much. There are a lot of riffs that Chris Poland actually plays better than Mustaine but I don't think that work has been on record. I think Mustaine actually plays most of the rhythm guitars on Megadeth's albums. And let's not forget he wrote most of the material on Metallica's first three albums plus pretty much all the solos Kirk Hammet played on their first album.
