Today we take a look at how angels were described in various religious texts and they look nothing like you'd expect, unless you imagined nightmarish Lovecraftian beings. These figures include the Seraphim, Cherubim, Ophanim and the Virtues.

Now that would be terrifying. Satan at his throne, turning from a beautiful man, to the red-horned demon, and finally into a massive, four headed Cherubim, laughing and telling you 'be not afraid.'
As my grandmother was going through the process of dying she told my dad that she sees a creator with alot of eyes trying to get her. My dad didn't see it neither did the family that was surrounding her bed side. She also said that she saw her mom and alot of her relatives from the past that passed away. She asked her mom to give her her robe. We thought that it was just normal for her to be that way since she was on alot of medications. But I believe deep down that she really saw what she saw because a few days later she passed away 😔
But doesn’t that sound beautiful? She is 100% reunited with them and waiting for you! And one day, you’ll all be reunited :), but until then, you have to live and enjoy your life!

I can believe it, it's not that far out there for me to believe at all. Especially with the shit I've experienced in my lifetime, and I'm only 26. I've actually heard stories similar to what happened with your grandmother about other people seeing dead relatives and stuff right before their death. I think when it's time for us to go, our brain starts to lose its filter that keeps us solely in this world and people are partially here and partially in the next realm right before they go. I haven't heard about angels like the one your grandma described and was shown in biblically accurate depictions, but it's not something I have any doubt is possible. I've had encounters with a lot of very strange phenomena over my years, from demons, possibly angels, possible nephilim (which may have brought out a humanoid spirit to protect us), multiple UFO encounters, Bigfoot encounters (which was the same instance with the nephilim, it's just some of the creatures that were around were much larger than I or anyone else thought was possible to be Bigfoot), I've been to other dimensions that are far more complex than this 3d one we inhabit (luckily was accompanied by a very friendly and loving female entity), and have cheated death before or perhaps just got lucky to be in this timeline. I remember a few instances where a different version of events taken place where I died but it didn't happen in this one. Oh, scariest thing I've ever experienced was falling into sleep paralysis and being attacked and strangled by a demon in which I couldn't do anything to fight against. It choked me out until everything went black and at that point I truly believed I was dead, even though it didn't make sense to me what I died from. Then a golden light appeared that I would imagine is the light that people see when they die that people tell them to go into but it was not a peaceful feeling because I was forcefully being yanked into it but it couldn't pull me in. Literally felt like my soul was being repeatedly pulled inside of the light and I truly thought I was dead but whatever it was couldn't get me. Was blessed to be given special abilities when it comes to 6th sense type stuff and psychic abilities but over time they've gotten weaker as the poison we eat and drink in this world damages the parts of the body that are responsible for things. When I say psychic, I'm not talking like one of those pretend Tv show dudes claiming they can talk to your dead grandma or something. It's more like every once in a while I'll get visions of the future in very short glimpses that I won't remember until it actually happens in real life. Usually only like 5 or so seconds of time but I would see things happen ahead of time to the exact detail.

@@slayerfan209 i thought i was the only one, makes me feel less strange. my family on one side was deeply into the supernatural, growing up i was told a lot i have a very open eye to spirits and such, always freaked me out but now i find it interesting

And since Earth is Lucifers domain since the fall of the original man, the 3rd of the fallen angels that follow him are also among us . Demons are fallen angels.
@@yano11onay are you religious or spiritual? I do believe dark energy exists, its around us constantly. I believe humans can conjure up dark energy but these people have no clue what they're dealing with. I've seen photographs of people who seem to have an ugly dark presence behind them. I believe these to be angels not demons, I believe they're there to protect. We don't know or fully understand what happens when we pass, we don't know what goes on in the other dimension, how things are, the hierarchy.

from my understanding the very few people that have seen an orphanim in biblical depictions stated that they moved in a way thats unintelligible from our dimension, as from a hypothesis humans live to view three dimensionally and angels live four dimensionally

CS Lewis had some interesting descriptions about spiritual beings: Hearing an Angels voice sends an eerie sensation thru the body, like the feeling of missing a step on stairs because it's a voice that doesn't rely on blood. Also seeing an angel is described to be uncanny, like seeing a new primary color. Our minds can't fathom that

I think the biblical descriptions were basically the same thing Lovecraft did in that they're supposed to convey that angelic beings are so different from us that they basically don't even make sense to our limited perspective.
Growing up i was so sensitive
My skin had like thousands of tiny eyes. I could feel with. They vonnected me to every form. Shape. Volor. All in such a strange way. I think thr angels might be described in similar sense. Theyre "happening" but they cant be percieved by senses. Yet theyre everywhere i think. I would feel presences of strange entities standing behind all people. But it wasnt like evil. Its like they are us, but we are still us and not thrm. Like how molding something happens.

In the Bible, Lucifer was described as the most shining and breath taking Angel until he fell from heaven, taking with him a third of the angels. If you want to convince the masses to your cause, having the appearance of a monster may put a dent in your plans.
My guess is that angels are deliberately monstrous looking to put the fear of God into the mortals they come across, whilst fallen angels seduce humanity into sinning.
If these 'angels' are demonic then imagine what God must be? It would explain alot.

@@justinkianaalfredo6843now that reminds me of that movie Bedazzled where the devil is portrayed by Elizabeth Hurley and she constantly keeps changing looks but remains usually beautiful. Although she tells the protagonist she keeps the appearance to ease people and because the classic "red guy with horns and a mustache" look is too old, but can actually take a demonic form if she wishes.

As a Christian myself I learned a long time ago that most of my peers have a hard time accepting them as angels and are usually uncomfortable talking about them because they are the things of nightmares. God created the entire universe... he's allowed to make whatever weird hybrid creatures/angles he wants. He made the duckbilled platypus and we accept it... why not an angel with 4 heads?
@Nat20 Damage Yup. One of the things my fellow Christians complain about is things that will usher in the end times and the Mark of the Beast. My reply is always the same "Great... don't try to stop it... let it happen.". They usually look at me confused as if I'm working for the enemy but I'm not. I just know that's it's Gods plan for it to happen and why would we try to stop God from carrying out his plan? Most of them just don't get it and sadly they never will because they never look at the big picture.

I don't think it's that He wanted to make them weird, it's that they're not designed to be comprehensible to us as they are neither "made for" us nor do they exist in the physical world with anatomy to deal with physical-world cares. Their appearance is primarily symbolic.
Neon Genesis Evangelion wasn’t exaggerating when they made all the Angels as surreal looking as possible: from lanky humanoid freaks to simple geometric shapes.
It wasn’t just an “anime thing” to make them look unlike what we typically think of as an “Angel.”
That might be because people from outside of the religion and culture will go for the actual written texts and descriptions instead of the widely thought of canon that people of that faith/culture have in their minds.

The funniest thing is that I got to this video, because I dreamed of this being that I would categorize as "Seraphim", I had never dreamed of something like that and it appeared, making strange noises, as I was intrigued, I began to investigate and I found this video , I am shocked to see that it is almost the same, without having seen anything like it in my life before.
I find nothing unsettling about these appearances... i actually find them quite beautiful and stunning.

Well, assuming that no one else is around to see you die, the Ophanim would probably see it.
Solomon's Ring is the Zodiac, the Seal is Virgo, aka Isis, Mother of God, Virgo is also the Jewish New Year, and the Stone associated with this sign is associated with the Moon. The story of Alladin derives from the Quranic account of Solomon, whose ring and it's seal gave him control over the King of Demons, who would do his bidding. In some versions he has 73 seals, the number of years in a single degree of Zodiac arc.
The word Genie is a derivative of Djinn, and Solomon means Mountain of the Sun, or Fire Mountain, a reference to Volcanoes. However what we have here is the association of the Pyramids and Temples with the Zodiac, specifically the time of Harvest in the fall, for obvious reasons.
The Moon of Isis is September, both the Jewish New Year, and the number 7. Sept derives from Saetum, a close approximate of Saetern, or Saeptum, it means enclosure, like Supulchre, or Sanctum, but also means Tribe, or House, the Gaelic word was Seto. 7 in Phoenician script is our Z, the final letter of the alphabet, the Crooked Serpent, both Alpha and Omega.

Note the old English Saetern bears and Uncanny resemblance to Saeptum, the root word of Sept, as in September, the 9th month, but named after the number 7, the Crooked Serpent, the Sabbath.
Sept also means Sect, or Tribe, and the Gaelic is Seto. Note too the Romans identified Melqart as analogous to Hercules, as well as Thor. Also note all the religions refer to an Underworld, Canaanite Priests wore Swastika on their robes, and their name is a Phoenican word for Serpent Kings, these same Serpent Kings can be found in the Aztec civilisation, and used the same Metonic Calendar, embodied by the same Feathered Serpent/ Phoenix.
The Phoenix self immolated on the Holy Grail or Touchstone, just as the Queen is Coronated on the Stone of Destiny, which itself came from Tara, a hill drowning in mythology involving Scotia, the daughter of Arkenaten, not far from Baal Hill. Even the name MacDonald derives from Macedonia, Mace being the Sceptre of Kings, and Donia being the Land, or City, much like the word Landlord. What we think of as Resurrection, could be as simple as the lineage of Kings.
"The King is Dead, long live the King" and this was purpose of the resurrection chamber in the Great Pyramid, which literally translates as Fire Mountain, or Solomon, ensuring the divine lineage through the Unborn child of his Widow,. Hence Hiram Abiff "Widow's Scion".
Note also the word King derives from Kin, which would be Father and Scion, hence the term, Scionist, someone who believes in the Divine right of Kings to rule as intermediaries of God, just like the Pharoah, who was also known as the Commander in Chief. That's why the symbol of the Holy Roman Empire is the Double Headed Eagle, or Aquila.
"Ophanniel, ruler of the stars" is actually the Moon! So when Solomon gains control over his Genie (King of Demons) I would suggest it's referring to the 13 cycles of the Moon! Enoch too is a name in reference to the Moon, just as Thoth and Hermes Trismegestus.
The ophanim (Hebrew: אוֹפַנִּים ʿōp̄annīm, "wheels"; singular: אוֹפָן ʿōp̄ān), alternatively spelled auphanim or ofanim, and also called galgalim (Hebrew: גַּלְגַּלִּים galgallīm, "spheres", "wheels", "whirlwinds"; singular: גַּלְגַּל galgal), refer to the wheels seen in Ezekiel's vision of the chariot (Hebrew merkabah) in Ezekiel 1:15-21. One of the Dead Sea scrolls (4Q405) construes them as angels; late sections of the Book of Enoch (61:10, 71:7) portray them as a class of celestial beings who (along with the Cherubim and Seraphim) never sleep, but guard the throne of God.
These "wheels" have been associated with Daniel 7:9 (mentioned as galgal, traditionally "the wheels of galgallin", in "fiery flame" and "burning fire") of the four, eye-covered wheels (each composed of two nested wheels), that move next to the winged Cherubim, beneath the throne of God. The four wheels move with the Cherubim because the spirit of the Cherubim is in them. The late Second Book of Enoch (20:1, 21:1) also referred to them as the "many-eyed ones".
The First Book of Enoch (71.7) seems to imply that the Ophanim are equated to the "Thrones" in Christianity when it lists them all together, in order: "...round about were Seraphim, Cherubim, and Ophannin".[1]

When I hear "4 faces" I imagine them attempting to describe something they SEE in a higher dimension but they literally cant explain with limited vocabulary or draw which is why depictions look so weird. Maybe you could use some historical context. The Israelites had been defeated by the Babylonians and had to live in exile in Babylon. We see from their sadness (the book of Lamentations) and their anger (the Psalms of the exiles) that they had given up hope. The prophets were trying to put a new heart into the people by telling them of visions. Ezekiel speaks of beings (I don't know why people mix these up with angels) that look like the various gods of Babylon, and can travel wherever they want, exactly what the Babylonians could do but the Israelites could not. But these beings, for all of their power, are below the throne of God. This is a reminder to the Israelites of what they believed. There are three other visions in Ezekiel, I hope this helps you get some perspective on them.

There were still many angels who did look human. But besides the arch angels, many of them just weren't of particular note.
Like the Angels that visited Sodom to ensure the family's safety once they destroyed it. They appeared as beautiful men, who spoke for the lord.

Seeing the different classes of angels, then the bit about the different classes of tanks in WOT is an interesting juxtaposition.

That first angel, the cherubim, could be metaphorical: the wild lion could represent the idea of chaos versus the domesticated ox representing order, while the man could represent the realist in each of us while the bird represents the dreamer.
The Seraphim screams balance to me. Covering the head and feet renders the two extremes equal in importance, which frees the last pair of wings to fly unfettered.
The Ophanim…I got nothing except that it straight reminds me of an atom. Maybe the person you referenced as the describer wasn’t hallucinating but was being shown the universe on the most fundamental level, and his mind interpreted the protons, neutrons, and the orbiting electrons as wheels and eyes. It would at least explain why they were always near the throne. As the center of creation, it would make sense that there would always be the building blocks of creation located nearby.
As for the rest, I’ll have to leave another comment after I wake up and finish the video. This was a wake up in the middle of the night, and watch something until I could fall back to sleep thing.

I know I am only speculating but Ophanim remind me of black holes. Black holes, when you look at them from equatorial plain appear as if they have two interlocking rings. It was mentioned that Ophanim are used as mode of transport from Cherubim. As if they are the gate of some kind. That would explain why they are in the ceneter of every galaxy. Just imagine how cool that would be. They are at the origin of matter basically.

The image that has stuck with me to this day was traveling through space and entering a bright light with concentric rings rotating around it as the Ophanim is described (though no eyes). It wasn't until in the last few years I came across these videos describing various angels that I saw the similarities. If my childhood recollection wasn't some random coincidence, it could suggest they act as gateways between Heaven and Earth.
Though I'm agnostic and I'm not embedded in any specific Christian lore. It is definitely a curiosity.
Angels are beings of the spirit realm. So they should be able to look like what they want. Lucifer for example can take the form of an angel of light, but when he rebels he takes the form of a dragon.

Christian imagery is Catholic (which is from the Latin and means universal), it isn't just Jewish.
In the 1st century AD the Apostles dealt with this question when it came to respecting Jewish customs as Christians and they ruled that no such thing could be asked of pagan converts.
Hence Catholic imagery can be Jewish, or it can be Germanic, or it can be Roman, etc.

Lucifer was only mentioned as the babylonian or akkadian king who fall from his glory in form of the evening star. The origin of Lucifer you find in greek mythology. Lucifer is the roman name of Phosphorus. The personification of planet venus, the one and only. His half brother is Hesperos and together with him, they are portrayed winged with a burning torch. Both are evening and morning star. Eos(in roman Aurora), titaness of dawn and mother of Lucifer flies together with Lucifer before her brother Helios, then after Helios flies Hesperos and his Half father Astraios, husband of Eos, father of Lucifer and titan of dusk. Only after him, Selene, Eos and Helioss Sister flies on the sky. Selene is the personification of Moon and Helios is personification of the sun. Apollo and Artemis are just one of many small solar deities but not the main ones.
All in all, Lucifer never originally existed as the so called favorite gods.

It's worth noting that aside from Ezekiel's and other prophets' visions, angels don't really have the spotlight in the Bible, Torah, Coran or any other official sacred text (Talmud, Septuagint etc.). The angel hierarchy has been thought of in apocryphal texts and at a much more recent time than the creation of these sacred texts. Many also base on mysticism and magic systems which were not really canon and accurate to the religion itself. All the names of the angels that we have (Zaphkiel, Castiel, Uriel, Lecabel, Haheuiah, Armisael, Anael, Haniel etc.) are not in the sacred texts and come from either apocryphal sources or other more spiritual and mystic scriptures. Only Michael and Gabriel are mentioned by name, not even Lucifer is mentioned as a character, but more as a concept or observation (the fall of the Morning Star, the movement of Venus in the sky).
As Juliet Fischer said in the comments, the whole angelic hierarchy is indeed Bible fanfiction. Apocryphal texts (basically the fanfiction) offers a wider view on the religious world, giving more info and content to the story of the Bible (such as the Book of Enoch which expand A LOT on antediluvian times, angels that fell and taught humanity forbidden divine knowledge, the construction of the Ark, the giants etc.) Sticking strictly to the Bible, all angels are human shaped, the cherubim, seraphim and ophanim mentioned in Ezekiel's vision are not even described as actual angels but just heavenly beings, so they may not really be angels. It's interesting to see how different and wild our view on these creatures can get, and that's what I love about the whole mythology. Heck, I draw angels and they all look like dragons or snakes. Nowhere in the Bible does it say they look like that, but it's fun and cool, like how Evangelion made geometrical shaped or phallic shaped angels (yes Shamshel, the 4th Angel (NGE) is indeed the shape of a phallus).

Really nice intro, hope you've seen Eric von Danikan's experiment were he took the Ezekiel description of Gods Chariot and gave it to 2 different specialists without telling them were it came from, and asked them to build a model based off the provided descriptions. They ended up with what looked like most UFOs, especially the flying craft described in Ancient Indian texts as their old gods flying craft.
I know there is lore to suggest that stars and angels are related, but I like to think of stars as angels anyway. I consider stars to be forms of consciousness that "don't have free will" because they are bound to dance to gravity. In the mean time, we know stars can "sing" and we know they pulse and vibrate. Our sun tends to extend 6 noticeable rays which would link to the 6 wings idea. Their "wingbeats" or energetic output and vibrations provide the energy and messages to us here on Earth. Their light and vibrations eventually make their way to us and affect those sensitive to that star's message. The 4 faces being complex "hats" of the star/angel's duty and personality.
The Ophanim seem a lot like the black holes in the center of galaxies. A conscious vehicle that holds all the stars effectively driving them around the wheel of the galaxy.

The meaning of the four faces of the Cherubs are actually symbolic of the four Cardinal Qualities that make up Almighty God's personality.
They are as follows:
Love = human face, man made in God's image, with the capacity for expressions of love, self sacrificing and principled rather than merely affection which animal experience.
Justice = lions face for exercising TRUE justice requires courage which the lion represents.
Jesus too as the lion of David is a courageous Judge, courageously gave up his life, and will judge in righteousness in the future coming.
Wisdom = Eagle. The far sightedness of the Eagle represents Wisdom to see clearly and act discerning. Wisdom being the correct application of knowledge.
Also only true prophecy comes from God, as like an Eagle he has an advantaged view over events and can forsee the future.
Power = The Bull. The most powerful animal the Hebrews had experience with. Represents God's mightiness, but is not unyielding and rampant, rather is yoked and harnessed by the other Qualities.
When God uses his power he does so in Love towards the faithful, with wisdom and in true justice.
Love = human
Justice = lion
Wisdom = Eagle
Power = bull.

Most people do not understand God or the scriptures. I am amazed of all the negative comments I've been reading here. People don't fear God and its sad. Society has become so scynical.

In Islam, "virtues" description is basically the most similar with their description of angels, as angels created from "nur" or lights. they can materialize/polymorph to whatever organism they want too.
Meanwhile djinns are created from fire & this is the general races of devil, demons, & all kind of spirits/mystic creatures that reside in the universe.
My favourite depiction of angels probably comes from the comic Kill 6 Billion Demons. In that they are very much all eyes and wings but inhabit a kind of golem like shell. They are also born from cold celestial fire.
Also I would be amiss if I did not mention Bayonetta when it comes to angels. That interpretation also stuck with me ever since I first played it.

Technically the 'angles' are Cherubim/Seraphim (the guardians of God's Throne and Sacred Spaces), the Ben Elohim (the members of God's Divine consul) and the Malak (God's messengers of God). Ophanim is up in the air if a spiritual being we would recognize as angles or machines... but this is a decide summery of current lore
