I have rooted Japanese Quince cuttings in a pot about 5 years ago. Every growing season it sends roots into the ground from the pots drainage holes and I have to rip the pot off the ground to relocate it. New shoots grow from the ground where the pot once was.
So, I'm fairly certain you can just plant sections of Japanese Quince root cuttings and they will sprout new shoots.

Cool tree. It’s good to see it survived that root pruning. You had me scared for a moment. Lol 😀

LOL These guys are root relatively easily from cuttings so I was a bit more daring with trimming it's roots.

Good luck thickening the trunk on that thing. My aunt has a small bush of flowering quince in her garden and it has been the same size for decades. 😁
About the flowers you should read about how to prune flowering shrubs. It’s not difficult but one must know how the plant behaves. If I remember correctly trees in the apple family bear flowers on spurs on old wood so if you prune hard it’s very possible to lose the blossoms.
It doesn’t matter much if you are still building shape and ramification but if you want flowers in spring it’s important to know where the flowering buds are BEFORE doing the winter pruning. Hope this is helpful.
    Best of luck. 👍

I just discovered the massive overgrown bush in my car park is a Japanese quince. The gardener cut off years of overdue growth and found all these hard little fruits under the leaves. Some big thick trunks I could dig up but it’s growing out of the concrete so not sure I’ll be able to and keep the roots intact. Need to wait until winter and trim it back and see what it’s like at the base. I wonder if I could air layer it? Seen lots of videos but never tried it.

My next buys will be quinces!
(recent buys of plants I’ve never had yet - pomegranates and Seiju elm)

    Hello,
I recently have bought two flowering quinces. One of them have these little black bugs on them and they're clustered around the blooms and leaves any idea what they are? I've sprayed it with neem oil for the time being. Any info would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Lan,

not 100% sure unless i see the photo. Are they flies or aphids? and are they indoors?

@@benbseattle I believe (during my attempt to look them up) that they may be scales? Both quinces currently are outside under a patio.

@@benbseattle Just figured what they are and they are definitely aphids. Any idea which would be a safe alternative to getting rid of them. I just have neem oil for the time being.
