Remember watching this first time around on bbc2...couple of years before I saw his concert at Hammersmith Odeon in London...think the ogwt on bbc2 audiences were all on freebies ...they turned up not knowing what to expect...didn't make it all that easy for the artists...
I know Ry loves his "Cooder-caster" but the tone (and playing) here is the absolute best. All done through a small tube amp and the middle pickup of a Strat.
Hold on a minute....not sure this is 1982....more like mid to late 70's....first saw him at Hamnersmith around about 1976...getting a bit confused as to the you tube dating of this.
I saw Him the following year opening for Eric Clapton. He had John Hiatt playing guitar and singing with him. WooF!!
The master of slide Giutar with a great group. I was there all the shaw was fantastic. I'll remember until my death
The big backup singer looks just like Action Jackson. Great video and great song. Blind Alfred Reed would be proud.
It has a really nice 'Little Feat/ Lowell George' vibe to it.
I love it.
Unbelievable soulful vocals and slide!
è uno dei pochi chitarristi insieme a Mark Knopfler che suonavano con uno stile meraviglioso

Ry cooler kennen viele der heutigen Zeit nicht mehr❤das ist ein Fehler er ist genial❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ry is indeed very "cool" but his name is Cooder, not cooler!
Slide master! Great vid! Thanks for the upload 👍🏻👍🏻🤘✌️

Fun fact: That is the original Coodercaster!
He's probably not playing through a "small amp"; that's a Dumble head sitting on a large speaker cabinet behind him.
Beautiful,
Unsurpassed to this day. They don't make them like this anymore
Without any doubt.
Man, that was nice!
Love it !!
Such wonderful footage. Thank you.
Ah ! ce solo de guitare ! on dirait une femme qui chante ! toute cette musique est magnifiquement jouée, par tous sur scène.

Good Stuff My Friend
Ry Cooder is excellent but the backing singers steal the show.

You don't happen to have the full show, do you ?
I remember it from the OGWT, I'd love to see it again.
+lezzliea whats OWGT?...please.
+Fred Libby OGWT stands for the Old Grey Whistle Test, it was a music show on BBC tv en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Old_Grey_Whistle_Test
There's one UA-cam upload of his full OGWT set but the video isn't great and the sound is muffled and indistinct.
wow....was that a lapsteele tonebar he was using? on a 7.5" strat neck?
No, it's a standard modern bottleneck. But he's a genius……!
Looking again, it's a non-standard bn….but he is wearing it on his little finger ( pinkie to you )….!
Also note that box plugged into the jack socket on the guitar, that's one of Dan Armstrongs little guitar effect boxes - don't know which one.
It's the neck of a wine bottle. He cuts them himself. He used to use an aspirin bottle sometimes too. Always used a glass slide, never a metal one.
