Congratulations on the success of the channel, have been watching for a number of years, I think you were pushing 100,000 subs when I started. At 250,000 , I hope your compensation is commensurate with the value in information, and entertainment, that you bring. I was brought to this channel because I recognized your name from magazine reviews back in the day.
Glad to see viewer's Dynaco A25s are still going. That one, was a huge seller. My Dad said he paid $169 for them in 1971. My family had used them until the woofer's foam surrounds had rotted. I had used them in my bedroom as a teenager back in the day
That Dave Brubeck Quartet album is amazing. In my experience it's the kind of album that can transport you back to the time of recording. For me it's easy to suspend disbelief and just listen to the sound of a great band playing in a space with excellent acoustics. Dave's remarks about a newspaper strike and a snowstorm help with the illusion. If you like the DBQ and haven't heard this one you should give it a try.
Review aside, you got me pulling out that Brubeck and playing it for the first time on my S400MK2’s. Must have been magic to be there and the vibe, performance and energy on that recording is just top shelf. Such a fine choice Steve!
My daughter is keen on the rose wood model! I'm not a 4 ohm savvy person, Steve your show is truly precious to me, it sure it could be improved upon!! If I could hear actual systems, demo them from my easy chair!!! But that would take magic! My lore beryllium custom macabre kolor, raven osprey, Panasonic ub9000, rel 8", mc-dac&streamer, sound awesome!! But then I didn't know that til I bought set up broke in and lived with them, I'm really happy, but each layer is mysterious and the system unknown until its too late!! Now I am an "audiophilliac" level consumer and been at this since the 50's I know what I can listen too without fatigue.
Hey Steve, great Allen Toussaint album! I grew up just outside New Orleans and love Jazz! Allen Toussaint was a major contributor to the New Orleans sound!
The Esoterix Altum from KRIX was among the first bookshelf loudspeakers to use a waveguide. Maybe it deserves your attention and of course I hope you’ll review Epos ES14N and Diapason Astera with its dedicated stands.
The price is low because the sales skip dealers and shops ............normal price would be in the range of 3000 + $..........and that's no budget speaker its a real deal !
Interesting video, nice design, prefer unported speakers, so passive radiator a nice comprise. Nicer design than many speakers but I won't be changing my Naim SBLs
I have a pair of these and Q Acoustics 5040's on 45/60 day trial. I thought I was going to keep the 5040's (I still might) but the warmth of the P300's is really starting to grow on me. When I A/B the two, the obvious difference is the SPL (86 for the 300's and 91.5 for the 5040's) so instantaneous comparisons are challenging but when I try to compensate by adjusting the volume each time, I seem to be preferring the overall sound of these over the 5040's.
Hi Steve, the music albums you used in this review are AMAZING!!! WEST SIDE STORY 2021 and the live Dave Brubeck albums are phenomenal! Do you have more recommended music albums? Do you have a list of your recommended music? I would love to have a copy of that list! I have been following you for years and I love your reviews! They are full of great infos, you compare products in the same review, you are very alive and passionate,…so thanks a lot for the important infos you give us. I am now back in Belgium (after 26 years in Florida) and I now enjoy your content in Belgium. I see you in your next video! And thanks for the great infos on these Burchardt speakers.
Great review Steve, really appreciate your concise descriptions, comparisons & use cases among relevent spkrs & amps !! So now I'm going to have to line up a pair of my own, along with a Vidar 2 amp !!
the fact that the p300 are warmer than the s400 mk 2 is a discovery ,many people are making bad decisions because descriptions are so confusing on companies websites, i'm not accusing buchardt it's everywhere and frequency response curves/graphs are too complicated for most people ,they are not sound engineers and shouldn't try to be just because they need some speakers. seymour duncan ,a genius guitar pickup designer(jeff beck and david gilmour used his pickups among others) had that problem long ago, so he created a tone chart with numbers 1-10 for treble/mid/bass for each model so everybody could understand what's brighter than what etc. he also stated if it's better suited for bright or warm instruments because he cared about synergy and the overall result in a system. all the audio companies in the world would save themselves and their costumers a lot of trouble answering, in plain english these simple two questions : 1. how does it sound compared to your other products? 2.what is it best suited for?
I will that while the S400 mkii’s are the best speakers I’ve owned, I had a pair of big Polk speakers that produced a larger scale sound than the S400’s. Listened to the Klipsch Forte IV twice in the last year and did not get the you-are-there feeling everyone’s talked about.
The passive radiator reminds me of the old KEF B139 driver. I believe it was used as a passive in one of the big Sonus Faber stand mount many years ago. I think it was also the woofer in one of the early Linn floorstanders. A long time ago and I could be wrong. I know this isn't the same driver.
Steve, I'm looking to downsize and simplify my system. The Buchardt speakers were already on my list so this is welcomed. Also I'd like to support your choice with those first two albums. I bought the Toussaint album a few years ago without having heard it, simply from his reputation. It's a delight. Then, before culling my LPs prior to a move I had something like 25 Brubeck albums. I kept about 10 for the move. The Quartet's Carnegie Hall never seemed to get the respect of several others. But it is one of my favorites, in fact it is the first recommendation I'd suggest for anyone who doesn't yet have any Brubeck. Good show.
Hi . How do you listen to them at low volume levels? How does heavy metal sound on them? how do they sound compared to dali oberon 3 or dynudio emit 20 ? Would a yamaha rn-803d be a good companion for them?
Gosh, really want to grab these but they’d be played most often only about 10” from the back wall in my space. Wondering if some EQ and room correction could help them shine in this placement.
ive ordered the s400 mk 2 se ,paid and then found out that buchardt doesn't include import tax to my country in the price even though they state " all import taxes included" so i e-mailed them, said it's not fair. they responded fast and gave me a partial refund so overall i'm paying the same price like there is no import tax ,great customer support. go for it.
These sound like they are voiced more like the s400mk1. Can you or anyone else speak about the low volume listening of the p300? This was a known weakness of the s400mk1.
I have almost the same question. I do not want to listen with the volume at Spinal Tap eleven, but I don’t want to listen at “late-nite” levels either. Are the speakers OK at Goldilocks levels?
I would say at 70db or higher they sound there best. Not the best for low level listening. I have the original s400’s. Possibly the lower sensitivity of the speaker is why they don’t sound there best at lower volumes. My Martin Logan motion 35xti are more enjoyable for low level listening. Most likely due to the 92 DB sensitivity.
the S300 is currently on sale for 1100 and was originally priced only 100 euros less than the P300. is that signaling that it'll be discontinued and replaced by the P300? also the colors are great. more speaker companies should stop discounting how much that increases the appeal.
Hi Steve, just wondering if the P300 would be good for a small space. Reviews I’ve seen of the S400 say it is not recommended for low volume listening.
@@SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac OK. I understand that Magnat has a 15 inch. And Elipson from France(?) has a 12 inch that is making its way around the review circles.

It's not really that simple. Wage value is mainly about cost of living. If you're in tech factory in indonesia, youll have a fairly decent standard of living. Re:your description of the sound of the Amy Winehouse record. If you believe that Amy's voice sounds good on the recording as I do, then the sound of the drums was an aesthetic decision by the producers. You may not agree with that decision but your comments implies that the producers and engineers were incompetent but that is not the case here. Pop records are mixed to should accurate or beautiful but rather to have maximum impact on the casual listener.
I think you misunderstood my critique. I agree about the aesthetic decisions made by producers and engineers. And I enjoy that record a lot. It just doesn’t sound good.
I'm not disputing your opinion Steve but I think it points to one of my problems with the audiophile community and that is that if the sound of a record does not seek to recreate reality, it strikes me that many members of the community dismiss it as not sounding "good". The Winehouse recording sounds good in my opinion because it frames her voice in a way that communicates her message in a way that speaks to a contemporary audience with a good mix and no unwelcome distortion. The term "sounds bad" should be reserved for inappropriate distortion or incompetent mixing. Obviously, as one who records and mixes records (and has been guilty of creating bad sound for various reasons), these are the criteria that I apply to my own work and others. Communicating the artist's vision in the most effective way is all that matters.
Steve, When you talk, you weave back and forth and it's a distraction! I have trouble watching the whole thing. Maybe consider sitting down when you talk? If I'm the only person that has a problem, then fine. :D
$2,200 and built in Indonesia? No thanks. The labor in Denmark is 10 times more expensive, I can understand a little better if they were built in Denmark.
@@SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac great review. the s400 mk 2 are around 2100-2350$ and made in indonesia maybe that's what he meant, the signature edition is the only one made in denmark and it's about 600$ more expensive and also has extended 20 year warranty ,nicer plugs and silver wires. how come there are 8740 reviews of the mark 2 not one of the mark 2 se ?i like the fact that manufacturers realized that people need warm sound(like my nighthawks) with digital sources ,that's why tubes will always be around as well.
the s400 mk 2 se are made in denmark at 2850 euros (3,000$). for 800$ more than the regular version you also get nicer binding posts, internal silver wires and 20 year warranty .the mofi sourcepoint 10 is 3800$ and made in chine. the kef ls 50 is 1600$ made in china...neither has a even a 5 year warranty.
Bei 100% sehe ich das anders wie Herr Baulig. Bei 100% und du bist glücklich, dann hast du deinen Sweet Spot. Who cares.

Multiply Euros by 1.1 to get US$ amount. Ballpark.
Way overpriced
Steve,
When you talk, you weave back and forth and it's a distraction! I have trouble watching the whole thing. Maybe consider sitting down when you talk? If I'm the only person that has a problem, then fine. :D
Who died Steve? What's up with the black shirt? Where did the colorful shirts go? Oh God I hope nobody died.
a confusing review given the changes of amps and music. hard to distinguish differences between speakers and amps based on this review
$2,200 and built in Indonesia? No thanks. The labor in Denmark is 10 times more expensive, I can understand a little better if they were built in Denmark.
The P300 is around $1,500 a pair.
Shipping ain't "free"!
It's included, big difference.
The closer you are the more you're paying for delivery costs.
Shipping costs are averaged out from the closest customer to the furthest customer. Otherwise they'd be losing$$$!!!
but you don't pay the store/distributor mark up
14 pounds each. Neo magnets maybe? 🔈🔉🔊
round grills are aesthetically not pleasing. Buchart rethink it!
Bei 100% sehe ich das anders wie Herr Baulig. Bei 100% und du bist glücklich, dann hast du deinen Sweet Spot. Who cares.
