Thank you for such a nice review! :) To address the custom woofers. It is actually a custom driver made specifically for us, which would be clear if you take it out. it's designed in cooperation with SB Acoustics. Their RND department is 35km from us here in Denmark, so we have always had a good relationship with them. The standard woofer is a very respected woofer that is used by many brands out there, and is typically seen in more expensive speakers like Audio Solutions which make many great speakers with this woofer. What we wanted to upgrade was the whole chassis construction, which was plastic normally. So we had it upgraded to a vented cast aluminum chassis for optimum strength and low compression. That and the cone itself is a little different which you would see if you put them side by side, mainly aesthetics for the cone to match the color better :) I see your feelings about the S400 VS the P300, and I can understand why some would find the P300 more to their taste, we designed it to be a more "fun" speaker to listen to, where the S400 is the more technical correct speaker for sure. The S400 is also a speaker that can play a bit louder, as its woofer can move a little more.
13 months of p300 and a joy every day... watching tv...listening to music. the speaker runs at least 12h a day and the whole family is simply thrilled. it also works great in combination with the wiim amp. as soon as the wiim amp 2 with 2x200w is available, the speakers will be moved a bit more.
Thank you greatly for giving music examples when testing speakers. I played Tracy Chapman, give me one reason, and noticed no problem with bass in my system, no problem with the vocals. Then I checked Boz Scaggs, thanks to you, and the room was filled with bass and even shook a bit, but no problem hearing the vocals very clearly. I guess some speakers may have too much bass, or it could be the high crossover point. Mine are two way with crossover at 2,200 HZ. I have all the bass I want and I love bass, but the vocals sound great on my system. All that being said, the P300's probably would be fine with an equalizer. Thanks as always for your honest reviews. Good video Sir.
Congrats Sir for reaching the 200K milestone 👏🎉💐 Buchardt P300 with their 1150 integrated amplifier, totally costing € 4,000.00, is really a highly valued hi-fi system. With that WOW factor !! 😊🙏
Just saw the alert. Congrats on the 200k subscriber achievement! Your channel is fun & informative, with your videos bringing many smiles to your viewers!
After hearing the A700's there was just no chance I could own anything else! The A700's are my end game 2 channel speakers and my credit card bill proved that!
In the Tracy Chapman song, I think they pull the reverb off her voice when the song changes style at approx 1:00 into the song. I wouldn't be surprised if the acappella part and the band accompanied part were recorded differently or at different times or, at least, engineered differently. The change you attribute to the P300s might just be the song itself. There could be a loss of mid-range clarity as you say, but take a critical listen to the song again on a different system or with headphones and see if you find the recording itself to be subtly different.
glad i watched this. bought these speakers a couple of months back and fell in love but was wondering about the heavy base, thought no way these are bookshelf not going to have that crazy full base. adjusted in my Wiim pro plus and absolutely found the perfect blend. $1500? yea they are worth it. speakers for life
Been waiting, not so patiently, for this review. You have spoken so much about them, and now we get to actually hear your perspectives. Thank you as always for your time and efforts to share this with us all. Will have to listen to it in-person to see if I 'need' them to replace my Ultras . If you ever have the chance, I would like to hear your opinion of the Dali Menuet SE speaker in comparison to these.
Lots going on behind the cone and there is always parts sharing (motor, basket) between different parts so it could totally be a custom SB Acoustics woofer for Buchardt and essentially look exactly like one of their stock parts.
Hey Randy, nice to see another review of these. Own them since end of last year, got the discount (1200€) :-) I a m pairing them with the NAD C700 and I slammed them to the wall, because the room situation is difficult. But they still sound great. Intergalactic still works for me, but the bass is really a bit too much here. Similar situation with Angel by Massive Attack, but besides that no problem there, maybe because of the furniture and carpet. Had the Elac Carinas in parallel when testing them, and the bass of these was much more, thickening up almost everything. The p300s are also very powerful in the bass, but very controlled. I guess I could get more out of them with another room, but I have the feeling they are the best speaker for my current situation.
@@iKaBoZ820 Sorry, that was only an early-bird price, I think for the first 100 pairs. So I really bought them without any review out there, just based on the good reputation of the big brother. Given the return policy it was not a big risk though, so a good deal for me :-)
For people that spend thousands on an audio setup it is, but I'm a hundreds guy with ears that couldn't hear the difference anyway so I get where you are coming from.
I used to use a pair of Buchardt S300MKIIs (still have them, not willing to let them go yet). I LOVED them (voices of all kinds are beautiful), until I found that they don't have much top-end detail (compared to Monitor Audio Silver 100s or Dynaudio Special 40s). Would you say that these P300s have good high-end detail?
@@engineer4862 The S300MKIIs have a slightly more natural tonality. Their bass is every bit as good as the MAs and might actually a little tauter down low; and like I say, male and female voices all sound beautiful -- slightly better than the MAs. But the Buchardt tweeter is a little soft and not as detailed as I'd like. The MAs have overall a very even response, good and extended bass (a little soft in the deep bass), and the treble is very detailed but also has a touch of a metallic quality. I'd still be listening to the Buchardts but I have a bit of tinnitus and want more treble detail to kind of cut through the "noise" of the tinnitus. I thought the Buchardts were also virtually as good as the Dynaudio Special 40s except that they lacked just a little treble detail and openness by comparison. Thomas at Thomas&Stereo called the S300 MKIIs a "hidden gem." I think so. For classical music and vocal music I love the Buchardts. But for electronic music that has subtle textures in the treble you will end up missing that detail, which you can get with the MAs.
Long time subscriber, first time poster! Nice review, Randy. I own the S400 mkII’s and they’re such a likeable speaker with that bass. Top end is a little shy but I did own a Sonus Faber Lumina previously which was all sparkle. Buchardt lowered the crossover frequency to 1800Hz on the mkII’s so this should address your muddy midrange observation.
Interesting. Which Lumina speakers did you have? Lumina 1 or 2? I have a sub so was wondering if something that’s “all sparkle” might work quite well for me.
Grats for 200k! Interesting you prefer the way cheaper P300 over the bigger brother, maybe I'll give them a try next year. Just a bit afraid the bass is too much in my suboptimal room acoustic
Elac UniFis still wins for 1200$ for more close placements to the walls like i need it to be and more of an professional design with co-axial drivers, 3 way design, front ported, bi-amp capability, protected tweeter, etc etc.. and obviously it sounds fantastic.
Its because the passive radiator is facing the wall you need to pull the speaker out further from the wall to sound balanced. This is the reason in my opinion that passive radiators should face forward like in the old school speakers that utilized it a while back. Yes, I do understand that it was made to be compact but when doing so there are compromises.
I find using good recordings is a more reliable approach to test equipment. Its difficult to distinguish between issues on the recording or with the unit with bad recordings.
A real nice review on these gems! I did the pre-order in ocean blue last year and I absolutely love them! I paired the lm with Primare I25 amp, perfect match for me. It's good to hear you are enjoying them as well!🤘🤘🤘
Nice detailed review! Now that you're in this price bracket, try a pair of Ascend Acoustics Sierra 2 EX v2 or the LX. Similarly priced but difference in emphasis.
Hi there. Just seeking opinions, as to should I go for the Buchardt P300 or the criton tdx1? Cost about the same to Nz, in adding on the shipping and taxes to nz for the Criton.(birch+ standard crossover) all opinions welcomed. Thanks
I would also like to know. I like my Lintons but I would like a little more detail sometimes. I could almost live without my subs too but not all the time.
Congrats on the 200K mark! Now for cheap audio, man, those speakers are a little pricey. Also, I've found that most higher-end speakers require a whole lotta power to sound their best no matter the sensitivity dB rating. Until you reach the speaker/amp's point of diminishing returns or what I like to call their TCOO point (total cost of ownership). I'm a little new to your channel, so I'm sure you've covered this at some length. Typically, if you can find this type of gear at 50% off or more, you have a bargin or cheap high-end audio. Cheers.
Now I understand bi-amp capable speakers as I could control the bass level electronically instead of spaciously with the gain setting on one of the amps.
You finaly decided me to buy these pair of speakers, i was looking for a while. Do you think it would be a good idea to buy an home cinema amp or would it be detrimental to the speakers?
I have a Yamaha CA 2010 vintage ( '70s) with 125 watts A/B and 30 watts Class A. What do you think? I like Mad's response observing this is a more 'fun' speaker. It's between these and the KLH 5s. Thank you Randy, James
Heya, Randy! I've tried getting the Tidal deal via your link, but nothing's happening, it just leads me to a blank page. Do I have to be in the US for it to work?
Hey Randy, always nice reviews. But what do you think about the Dali Spektor 2/ Oberon 3?? Can imagine you cannot review 1000 bookshelf speakers, but yeah.. Ohh, sorry, you did. I missed that..
Bought the SMSL 300se on your recommendation and some research. Paired with Beyerdynamic DT700 ProX sounds very good. Should I be wondering about the 4.4 mm headphone output? Is balanced worth it?
Guys I need some help deciding between P300 and Linton 85. I am looking to upgrade my current setup of vintage Canton speakers (made in west Germany) with chifi dac and amp. The left tweeter of the Canton is starting to "crackle" from time to time. I am stuck between spending around 1250 euro on a pair of P300 or Linton 85. The missus likes to looks and small formfactor of the Buchardts. I originally wanted the Lintons before this review. What do you guys think? Does anybody actually own the two? In terms of price they are in the same range... They will be placed in my living room for my personal listening but also primarily used for TV movies and series. The couch is about 3.5 meters from the front wall and the back wall is right behind the couch. Thanks in advance.
While I like hearing about all the cool equipment, what happened to the "cheap" part? I recall at one time your definition was < $1k. And I would think that for separate electronics, that this would be even less (e.g., integrated amp $1k limit but less for DAC, amp, controller, etc)
So P300 are better than the Elac Uni-Fi Reference UBR62 (which are again better than the S400 MK II)? - yes, you just said it in your summary. The P300 is more than twice the price of the UBR62 though (in Germany).
Thinking of these or kef LS50 meta for $999 🤷🏼♂️. Someone help me decide. I have a kef LC62 sub and WiiM amp on the way. I’m thinking the WiiM amp will do better with the 4ohm P300 even though i do love the kef sound and have had the LS50wii but returned because im scared to death of an expensive paperweight down the road….
did you combine the P300s with the Wiim amp? Thinking of going for that combination since I already have the amp. Not sure if it has enough power for the P300s though. Thanks
I suppose that any wide-range 2-way speaker is going to experience some low midrange muddiness. The only "cure" is a true 3-way design with a low handoff to the woofer.
Certainly not the only cure, I've heard many two ways that sound much better than many three ways. It's all about the design and quality of components and materials.
@@peterbaugh51 Lets just say that it's difficult and expensive to make a 2-way with clean upper bass and low mids. A 3-way design is much easier. Radiant Acoustics (Lyngdorf offshoot) makes a fine two way called the Clarity, but it's not cheap.
I'm going to have to disagree with you on something. I just looked these speakers up, these are 4 ohm speakers. You need an amp that can run 4 ohm, so you need some power to truly drive them.
Yeah… you realize $1500 is actually cheap in the speaker world right? That’s a fact, and it’s a weird price point as well where a lot of products have more ‘show’ but ‘meh’ drivers and components.
@tylerhackman6832 Cheap depends greatly on perspective. $1500 speakers are worth it to many people, but there is no way I would hear the $1100 difference over what I spent on mine. If you have $1500 ears and the budget, enjoy.
@ADREISTER With speakers I agree. Only if the price was a non factor. Once I knew the price difference I would be listening for that and wouldn't find it.
Whats up with that weird debris laminated onto the cone of the woofer.. QA issue? Idk this speaker is very hypey it seems... nothing really "quality" stands out anywhere.. the tweeter looks like a parts express special

I've tried getting the Tidal deal via your link, but nothing's happening, it just leads me to a blank page. Do I have to be in the US for it to work?
May replace a pair of DBR62s with these.... Anyone have experience with both?
Hey Randy, always nice reviews. But what do you think about the Dali Spektor 2/ Oberon 3??
Can imagine you cannot review 1000 bookshelf speakers, but yeah..
Ohh, sorry, you did. I missed that..
Good review Randy!!🎉
Bought the SMSL 300se on your recommendation and some research. Paired with Beyerdynamic DT700 ProX sounds very good. Should I be wondering about the 4.4 mm headphone output? Is balanced worth it?
Pesky debris didn’t want to let go of the speaker. Gotta keep the plants away from the equipment. Know what I mean Fern?! Lol
Good Danish loudspeaker !
Michael from Denmark
Your intro films are amazing. Do you put those together yourself ? Best Ive ever seen on any UA-cam video
Oh, why are they using a three-quarter inch tweeter instead of a 1 inch tweeter ?
So...what is the halloween tune being played here?
I am sure Mads will be happy to explain what is custom mads about it ....
Thanks
Ive heard them , liked them alot btw !
I see the Happy Halloween intro, I I think it's a shot of Dan from Emotiva.
Love the music!
Has anyone heard both this spesker and the heco revolution 3. And how do they compare?
Ask nemo propaganda, great guy.
Radiant Acoustics (Lyngdorf offshoot) makes a fine two way called the Clarity, but it's not cheap.
aha you had me to revisit wherever i may roam and indeed tok tok tok
Go for the 200K! :)
Buchardt offers B-stock with small cosmetic damage at a discount.
I'm surprised you didn't do some more Christopher Walkin quotes when you started talking about A View to a Kill. 😅
I'm going to have to disagree with you on something. I just looked these speakers up, these are 4 ohm speakers. You need an amp that can run 4 ohm, so you need some power to truly drive them.
I'm glad $1500 speakers sound good. I was worried there for a minute.
Some do not !
If you have $1500 ears and the budget, enjoy.
i would argue, you could hear the difference too if you were blind to the price.
@ADREISTER With speakers I agree. Only if the price was a non factor. Once I knew the price difference I would be listening for that and wouldn't find it.
Did you just call a tube amp dumb after your rave review of the aiyima t9? Still love ya, but whaa??
Are We there yet? (200K subs)
Lmao
To expensive for me as well,i don't need or want a 1,500 speaker
Look around and ask people if they have a used set of speakers for sale, like I did.
I found a set of Klipsch Cornwall 2 for $500 that way!
Beautiful!
How are we supposed to get you our email?
That dusty hair kind of made it for me. Gud Stuf!
Nice looking,,,expensive
Let’s do it
Whats up with that weird debris laminated onto the cone of the woofer.. QA issue? Idk this speaker is very hypey it seems... nothing really "quality" stands out anywhere.. the tweeter looks like a parts express special
03:15 that would drive me nuts...
Thats why im not spending a-lot on audio equipment cuz they all coming from the same country and maybe factory. It’s stealing
