I mean to be honest, you don’t need hope : ) it doesn’t matter if they bring Bionicals back or not, the news alone helped popularise Bionicals again and made the Bionicals community that’s always been active and never stopped being so, even more so. I’ve already seen some really cool custom Bionicals people have been showing off already, my favourite was a cool snake lady Bionical. So many fan made ones will likely be / are likely already being sold as fan projects, so we will get Bionicals regardless from the community ^u^
I'd love to see G3 provide a platform for Technic to branch out of sports cars and construction vehicles. I kind of miss the days of whacky 2000 Technic where there was way more variety.
I think if Bionicle does return to include system parts, then we will see a lot of new system pieces that emulate the look of old Bionicle, like the pistons and coils, and those parts will be used for greebling in multiple other sci-fi themes.
The gift set tahu is probably the way to go. Yea we won’t have masks or the cool parts but ccbs parts aren’t real in existence besides a few parts so lego might not remake the molds
@@awesomeguy9513 Maybe system compatible masks that look like the originals would work. Just with studs on the inside instead of a big stick you put in their mouth.
I would like to see Bionicle come back, as long as the writing is as good it was in the original. I would also argue that Bionicle actually set the standard that Ninjago has lived up to.
@@FireJach It was the foundation that made everything else good, so even if people weren't reading it, it mattered because it was what the sets were tied to.
@@gandsproductions5105 G2 did move on to the more mechanical designs later in its life, and likely would have continued it too (maybe bringing back more bionicle pieces)
CCBS was abandoned far too early imo So much more potential could've been had, plus Hero Factory holds a special place in my heart, so I'd love to see it all make a resurgence
Just wanna say, I'm a 30-year-old fan who fell in love with the Technic bikes, then the McDonald's toys, then the Rahi/Toa Mata -- I stopped around mid-Metro Nui... CCBS is awesome. G2, especially 2015, is overhated by elitists. I LOVED the biomechanical look of G1 Toa, and I certainly wouldn't complain if "G3" had more of a mechanical/hybrid look, but like... G2 has so much potential, and it's like the original Lego bricks, but for figures. Not all of us old fans dislike CCBS, and I hope that you can enjoy it without some fans being assholes. (I just ordered my first new Bionicle set in 20 years, 2015 Pohatu, to build from scratch and I'm super excited. He should arrive today or tomorrow. :] )
@jackoleen1236 It's hard for me to choose, honestly, but I'm a sucker for Pohatu because of the trans-lime bits on him and his "angular" design philosophy. Plus, even though I hate being in deserts/heat irl, they're cool and pretty to look at and read about! I don't think I can choose a 2nd or least favorite. The other 5 are a close second and all pretty equal to me. Might get Onua next because I love purple and gold/yellow, or Lewa because he was my first favorite Toa Mata, or Kopaka because ice is my favorite Toa element. I can't decide at all though aaaaa
@@EingefrorenesEisen I know exactly what you mean, I've always loved ocean-themed designs so I typically gravitate towards Gali, but Pohatu does have some of my favorite g2 design elements. I think I might pick up Kopaka too, because ironically, I also have a toa coming later today (Gali) and I think they would go great together.
If this is true, then in my opinion, and just my opinion alone, I think that Lego should make the Bionicle for older people so it has a higher rate of success and survivability, because the older people I think would buy them more and collect more of them instead of kids. So maybe an 18+ rate on them would maybe be the best?
I think it'd be a good idea, but also make easier sets for kids. Like how Technic has bigger, more advanced sets like cars that more experienced builders can enjoy while Speed Stars has simple builds more kid friendly. Get back the old builder-base and attract a new audience at the same time
Same here, although folks should be more realistic - the G1 parts are not coming back, for many reasons. And for better or worse CCBS is not likely to come back either. If anything, the system build is the only chance for supposed G3 to see a light
I think if Bionicle is to return, it needs to be firmly aligned with Technic, and maybe even provide a proper "T" CCBS. It'd also provide better support for System than the originals, since the pieces would ideally be designed to follow the CCBS technique of "Skeleton, Armor, Addons" and thus make it more adaptive.
The MOC community has a phenomenal track record of proving this to be true. I myself have recently rebuilt Kalmah and Prydak by mixing CCBS with classic Bionicle pieces. Kalmah now has four tentacles instead of two arms and Prydak has his classic feet with CCBS legs.
The thing is... Most Bionicle fans doesn't care about Ninjago. And ninjago seems to be oriented towards smaller kids. Bionicle could be more grown up, continuous story with no constant reboots, but still easy to access for new fans, where Ninjago would still be easy, continuous story filled with redcons and soft reboots. Seemingly the same, but for different audiences
If Bionicle does return in 2025,I hope Lego isn't afraid to get real crazy with the Lore and the Story. One of the things I hated most about G2 was the story. It was just too simple for me. I get that Lego was trying to make it easily understandable for new fans, but still. Another thing is that I hope the story of G3, if it happens, is easily accessible and easy to follow. Like having a Bionicle G3 Television Series that tells the entire story, like Ninja go has.
Id be okay with a mix but i understand your hesitation. I'm not super keen on Kopaka looking like a Ninjago mech. Then again I am no longer their target audience lol. whatever happens, if it fails hard again I dont think we will ever see a new bionicle theme in our lifetimes
Honestly, i would love a Creator expert twist on Bionicle as a theme, but make it so that 18+ people get to buy a selected few revamped sets made to be way more complex, like in the style of the current borderline organic looking MOCs.
I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if this were the case, honestly. The fact that we’re getting rumblings about this *now* suggests to me that Lego’s internal numbers for the GWP Tahu showed that Bionicle as a brand still has value… just maybe not as a large line targeted primarily towards kids like Ninjago. Assuming the rumored 2025 release is genuine, it could suggest that Lego Corporate were throwing the idea around mid-2022 and ordered the GWP as a test run of sorts.
My hope if LEGO did decide to bring Bionicle back they learn what I believe should be the primary lesson from the failure of G2, which is the writing. G2 and the accompanying comics LEGO released were cool in theory but I think LEGO missed the main point of why Bionicle resonated with so many of us, the writing. The figures were cool but thanks to the comics they were more than just cool action figures, they were fleshed out characters. Perfect example of this is how Greg Farshtey wrote my man Tahu. I think the temptation for a lot of writers, especially ones writing for a product line aimed at kids, would write Tahu as either A) the badass leader guy who always does the right thing or B) the hotheaded fire-themed guy who's always getting into trouble. But Farshtey wrote a more nuanced character, a guy who is competent and a badass and you can clearly see why he's the team leader but who was also realistically flawed. More than just being hotheaded, he had legitimate anger issues that he needed to work through in order to become a more effective leader and protector of his people. That's IMO a surprisingly bold way to depict the guy who's basically the face of the franchise.
While the classic bionicle pieces aren't supported anymore, bionicle compatible ball joints that work with system are still in rotation. They could easily make a macro system style that has 'backwards compatibilty' with bionicle limbs. If they were to reboot it, I think the GWP style is most likely though, it's cheap, cute, and has already proven itself.
I wont buy system Bionicle it’s not the reason i got into it. Just because it has the word Bionicle on it doesn’t mean it would be the same. Id wager it would sell worse actually.
I keep hearing rumors and rumblings of this happening throughout the years. I'll believe it when I see it. I hate to be a pessimist, but I've just become tired of these rumblings popping up every so often. Not to mention, as I've stated online before, I'm at the point where I'd be fine if the series never came back. It had a good long run, and in an age where franchises are never allowed to die, I've taken comfort in the idea that it's okay to let things just end. Bionicle was very likely a lightning in a bottle moment, and even if G3 turns out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread... is the community as a whole really going to be willing to accept it? I want to be prove wrong. If these rumors are true and G3 is spectacular, I will eat my own words. But for now at least... I'm just tired. I'd much rather have a new, related theme, and allow it to stand on it's own.
i agree figure building needs a new IP. OG bionicle was done perfectly at the perfect time. there is no reboot that will be superior to the original, so it will always live in its shadow to old heads. and kids today aren’t the same as the 2000s, they need something new
Bionicle G1 was the perfect alignment of Y2K culture and generation transitioning from analogue to digital spaces, mixed with LEGOs need for a line that will give it profit, open creativity as a desperate act to deal with companies near bankruptcy, and the right people at the right time to make the line what it was. Bionicle line the older fans want will never be recreated, because it was part of a time that will never come back. Many people dont realize this, they constantly ask for its return, ultimately will never be satisfied cause any bit of change does not satisfy them and will be disappointed. I rather Lego just stopped rebooting and remaking old lines and just make new ones, something for newer generations.
I agree with this, I think people just were left a sour taste with how it ended, if it ended a good note and didn't devolve to "le epic giant robot fight" and the Stars line, I think the want for a reboot would not be nearly as prevalent. Nothing lego does is going to reach the level Bionicle did (people argue ninjago but truly Bionicle has surpassed being a lego toy/theme, while Ninjago will always be seen as a kids lego theme) I would like for lego to do remakes of the toa and some popular villains in system.
@@CausticSpace You are right about Bionicle surpassing being a Lego theme. Whenever I think of Bionicle I think of the world, the themes the characters, the weirdness, etc. Lego is the last thing that comes to mind.
2000's kids had Bionicle, 2010's kids (like me) had Ninjago, and now we're a 3rd of the way into the 2020's and no theme that I would call the big name of this decade exists.
Personally I don't believe it but if it was to return it would probably be similar to the GWP but with new molds like the masks or like those new spider man figures. Heck them might do both "titan" sized ones use a similar ones to spider man ones and the "canister sets" would be similar to the GWP style. But one thing I would really like is have some og parts. I personally think ninjago although a small part helped cause g2 to fail
G2 feels like it was set up to fail by Lego. Ninjago, China and Monkie Kid get actual full-on cartoons but Bionicle G2 gets a shitty Netflix special that didn’t even have the budget for more than a single voice actor. That being said, even if Lego actually gave G2 the same treatment as its other contemporary action themes, I still think it would’ve undersold and probably would not have renewed past the intitial 3 year run. All the evidence points to Constraction just not pulling the numbers it needs despite being retried a bunch of times since G1’s cancellation.
As someone who just recently rediscovered Bionicle, I clicked on this as soon as I saw it on my recommended tab and because, well, I kinda fell out and lost interest around the Metru Nui era, and honestly, my heart breaks on how much I've missed (not gonna lie, I even like the reboot toa's design as well). So if there happen to be a new line in the works, I'm 100% interested in it, and if they can bring back either the technic pieces or old pieces, the better, my Mata Pohatu still misses some parts and I want to do some justice by him.
yeah, it hurts to know that bionicle probobly wont come back, the prices will keep skyrocketing and the collections will slowly break away until there are less and less bionicle figures, and then some day the last set will break and thats it.. nothing, no more complete bionicle sets, ever again...
I think this is unlikely if they do decide to bring back Bionicle in any meaningful way, but I'd want them to go with a system that's focused heavily around technic, like the G1 Rahi from 2001, with maybe some system usage here and there when it helps visually.
bionicle was like the big push technic needed back in the 00's, and kid me was totally blown away with what i could do with it. liscenced car models are cool, but thats all they use it for anymore.
@@GuiltlessGear Constraction deviating too much from its technic roots by removing functions for needless projectile launcher gimmicks was the biggest mistake it ever made. Also you can have form and function without sacrifice one or the other.
@@Bionickpunk Exactly. Constraction was good for one thing, but _only_ one thing, and thats a death sentence for a building toy. i was so stoked when bionicle got rebooted because the models looked cool, but when i got my pohatu in hand, i realized really damn fast that the new system was a dead end. i didnt even bother getting the others.
@@GuiltlessGear You literally bought the weakest Toa build from the first wave of G2. Had you gotten Onua, Tahu, or Gali instead, you would have different viewpoint.
As unlikely as I think it is, I'd definitely love to see a "reboot" of constraction in some way. I've been going back and getting into the old Slizer sets and it's just reminded me how much untapped potential there is in the Slizer/Robo Riders/G1 Bionicle style of Technic-focused action figure building. Like at this point I'd take ANYTHING even somewhat resembling that old style again, whether it's Bionicle or something entirely new. Bionicle's absence stings worse when there's not even something around to take its place, aside from system-built mech sets.
Regardless of what they do, they need to actually put in the effort to *Advertise the New Release* I didn't know that Bionicle had a G2 until it was half a shelf in walmart. They need to buy space on youtube, and other social media sites. Gods, imagine if they put out a 3d animated ad series like they did for the original G1?
As unlikely as it may seem, I REALLY wish that Bionicle G3 would not only carry out both G1 and G2 concepts, but also branch out into universes that would link the CCBS franchises together such as Hero Factory, Slizers, Roboriders and possibly give their designs more unity with each other, kinda like how Transformers Legacy did. Like, Takanuva had travelled to different universe before, so what if one of those universe he ended up in also happened to be either Planet Quazar or Makuhero City?
I'd like to imagine precious and big reinterpretations of older sets, aimed at an adult audience with a higher price tag. Those would be collectible af
I still don't really believe it to be legit, though the debunks I have seen are not as solid as I initially thought, mostly because they debunk another leak, which also ended with "Bionicle 2025", but it was apparently not the original one by Exabricks. That being said the current Ninjago reboot would have the chance to change Ninjago to such a degree that it could technically coexist with Bionicle if done right. Aside from that we have the recent SCCBS introduction, the rising prices of old Bionicle sets, and Bionicle coming closer to the magic 25 year nostalgia mark to consider. What speaks against it: Still, there is no undeniable evidence for Lego to see that Bionicle might actually sell well aside from the GWP and now and then Twitter polls. Doing Bionicle right takes effort, so why investing it in something old if you can just as well do something new with it that goes with recent trends? Concerns for when it should happen: Lego does stories differently now. It would really be a surprise if Bionicle would plunge again into its edgy phase, though Bionicle leaning more towards a teenager audience could help to differenciate itself from Ninjago. The designers behind the GWP also said that probably only the first three to five years really have nostalgic value. To me the first three years have the strongest atmosphere, but the weakest plot. As someone who was introduced to Bionicle at late Ignition stage this concerns me at least a bit. Then there is pricing. Brick based Bionicle are more expensive than even CCBS Bionicle. Don't know wether that would make for a good start into a collector's theme.
Personally as someone with no connection to the bionicle brand, I will only buy the sets if they include standard ball and socket constraction parts. I have no desire for bionicle Mixels or bionicle marvel mechs.
Personally, I'd rather move on to a new compelling world and characters with a new building system, much like bionicle and slizer were presented back in the day. I am totally open to adult scale vignettes and homages to bionicle. I do wonder if they did do a G3, what practices of bionicle they would revisit or improve. One example is mask collecting. Would lego tap into that market and remake old molds or create new masks as promotional material again? Bionicle collectibles are a very big hook for old fans
As far as story goes, I'd LOVE for this third generation of Bionicle to have a bit of a multiverse-thing going on that addresses the events of generation one with the three sets of Toa chasing after the Mask of Life and generation two's story with the Mask of Creation being a big thing, but for it to be somewhat separate from these stories and be its own thing. For parts and pieces, I really hope that we see a return to Hero Factory and Bionicle 2015. Either way, I'm certain it'll be dope!
Great video! I'm definitely not getting my hopes up for this rumor despite how exciting it sounds. And you made a lot of great points. If Bionicle were to come back it's really hard to say how they'd do it. And does it even have a place in the modern spread of Lego themes? Either way, fun to speculate!
Some combination between SCCBS and Technic i think would be the best way they could do it. You can get all the gimmicks that are possible through technic with the easy compatibility of system. I wouldn't be surprised of the Marvel constraction figures were just a test vehicle to see if the constraction sets still had any interest at all.
If they do the Marvel System build system, they'll need to really improve the way the joints work. The shoulders really pose poorly and the legs have limited hip rotation compared to other possibilities
If there is going to be a bionicle G3, I do think that if it went into the direction of continuing from where Bionicle G1 left off, with a somewhat re-written ending of G1 So it fixed it for how rushed it was by showing that as exposition in G3. Furthermore, a story for this would take place years after to the point that we would see familiar characters such as the Toa Inika/Mari as Turaga, in addition to kopaka being a Turaga due to (SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!) Matoro meeting his destiny including Takanuva as a turaga as well . Especially with Kopaka probably being probably the last of the turaga from the other toa mata/nuva/phantoka/mistika that would have later become turaga and pass away too maybe. From how the G1 story ended it would be interesting to see how G3 continue as a soft reboot, similar to transformers beast wars minus the time travel stuff. The only Problem that I can think of with this idea is whether Makuta should be a primary antagonist or just be part of a failed resurrection. But it would be more interesting to see the Great beings being an antagonizing force of some kind. Otherwise, I'm not sure, what do ya'll think?
I think you've got a lot of great ideas, and I've seen my g3 head canon almost exactly like this. The only thing, and I'm probably in the minority vote with this, but I actually liked how things were rushed along. It gave the ending more sense of urgency. Dare I say, it gave me avengers endgame vibes before it even existed. And the online serials like the yesterday quest picked up right after everything and started pointing the lore in a direction where Mata Nui restoring spherus magna felt like the beginning of the story. That's big. We've got kabrua helping velika with a device that turns off elemental toa abilities and maybe kanohi ones as well. We were also introduced to new toa. Pohatu and Kopaka are stuck on the red star with zombies. Lesovikk is on the run being falsely accused of murder. Takanuva potentially has to use the Olmak and return to other dimensions. Vezon is making a deal with a great being. The list goes on for what g3 could be written about. It actually sealed up a bunch of plot holes as well. It's only scratching the surface. Later down the line, your ideas about the mahri and other toa potentially becoming turaga is awesome. I'd definitely like to see that. I just wish more people talked about the yesterday quest and how it actually could be an epic kickoff to g3. I think TTV has discussed it at some point. I apologize for this being so long, but I really enjoyed your ideas, and I think that they could definitely fit in well with g3. Especially expanding on the great beings as antagonists.
I'll be honest, this is part of the reason Bionicle fans are often memed on and stereotyped by those outside of our community as nostalgia-blind, gullible, and unable to let go of Bionicle. Of course, I wouldn't complain if Bionicle were to return; but, considering its last real outing, I think it's safe for me to assume that it returning as anything other than singular products here or there is just wishful thinking.
I think most of those are system purists just upset that bionicle isn't compatible or too alien to them. Most of what I see in mainstream media is "bionicle was so awesome!", or "they need to bring these back!". The general consensus among non bionicle fans are that it's just badass and everyone would love if they returned. Plus, the recent resurgence in the bionicle community and the newer fans coming in would be great for advertising. The iPad kids are sick of these bland toys. My nieces and nephews, younger cousins, as well, love bionicle and ask me to play with the sets all the time. They ask to watch the journey to one and the original trilogy, too. To my surprise, even friends and older family members compliment the sets I have on display. I used to be embarrassed, but for no reason. Most people I know who come across them or see my sets sheepishly admit to wanting to play with them and build one for themselves 🤣
They definitely don’t still have the old molds, and I think Lego said they wanted to completely discontinue CCBS, so if they make new sets they’d either be system, SCCBS, or a new system. But all I know is I’d buy any new Bionicle set regardless of what they end up being
I just want a brick built Bionicle tabletop RPG where the party play as Matoran and there are NPCs like rahi, toa, bohrok, rahkshi, and makuta as well as other matorannand turaga. Give the story character NPCs written dialogue and story campaigns based around them, and sell them separately with mata nui island expansion packs so players can build and choose their own adventure.
It would be really nice to see new Bionicle sets...It is the set that literally saved LEGO back in the early 2000s....We all want it back and made to look like G1 but with a modern touch and new part molds!
I pray that they will reshelf some of the original stuff during the G3 run if they give that to us. Or maybe they could give us updated versions of the originals, like they like to do with so many regular sets.
As long as there's Constraction, I'M ALL ABOUT THAT ACTION but in all seriousness please let it be the og ccbs pieces that originated from HF or the OG Bionicle pieces/styles of building. i'm not a fan of the brick built stuff personally. i like the unique action figure style parts. if there were to be a G3, I'd just want it to be like the first 2, but with stronger pieces and more unique pieces.
I do sincerely hope that we get new Bionicle stuff that's kind of a reboot of the franchise. Using the G1 story as a base, as that is hands down my favorite Bionicle story, and either telling something new with the framework or taking the basic start and going in a different direction. Using something more akin to the build system of G1 as well, which allowed for the more visually distinct and pose-able nature of Bionicle in the first place. Go back to basics, make something that's kind of like the original while spicing it up a bit, and moving forward from there raking in those sweet, sweet nostalgia dollars (as that _is_ why Lego would do this in the first place, if at all). I especially hope we get to see the Piraka and the Visorak again, as those were hands-down my favorite arcs of the G1 story. I just don't want to see something that ends up looking like that limited-edition Tahu. Yes, using the system bricks would make all of the people who want to be able to mix Bionicle and classic Lego stuff happy, but you would lose so much of the charm and the distinct, more mechanical look that Bionicle has always had. And if they do use a building system that allows for more compatibility with standard bricks, I hope they don't sacrifice that pose-ability that allowed for the action poses that, let's face it, we _all_ put our Bionicles into as kids, with the ball joints for necks, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, and ankles. Yeah, I know that at the end of the day I'm probably hoping for an absolute pipe dream, but at this point it's my only hope of ever getting to own Bionicle sets again without paying out the nose on the resale market.
maybe we would be able to see technic constraction? it's always a battle between constraction-bound pieces and system pieces and trying to link them together, but what if technic entered the scene? it's famous for moving parts, cool systems and all three ccbs, regular system pieces, and the old g1 bionicle pieces, all incorporate the pins, axels and holes from technic so maybe it would be technic that could lend the compatibility between system and constraction pieces, and would also make for interesting action figure builds it also has the mechanical aesthetic that bionicle is known to have, from pistons and springs to gears and other bits of detail, technic would not only make for cool constraction figures but cool bionicles too
My wallet is doomed if it’s actually a remake of G1 and if sales are well they then move into updated and revamped versions of sets from the Metru, Voya, Mahri, Karda Nui, and even Bara Magna storylines if they ever get that far. I’d kill for a second chance to collect all the Toa Metru and Hordika. Imagine getting all six of the Toa Haga in all their glory as well as more characters in G1’s storyline that were never official sets before.
I don't like the excessive bulk of the new SCCBS builds and their lack of potential for being used for other things. Bionicle was great because, starting with Metru and Inika, the builds added complexity with new pieces that had great potential for making something other than the character it came with, with colors that were pretty neutral and mixable (especially Metru's amazing dark color palette). This new system *forces you to add bulk* to change its uses, i.e. adding brackets and ball joints to the piece takes up space just for the ability to add more complexity instead of having that complexity in the first place. We need a new system that adds complexity by *Type of connector + Axis of connector.* The new SCCBS limb piece sucks because it only has 1 axis of connection. Many of the Metru and Inika pieces had 2 or more axis, and the strength of those pieces was in how they mixed different types of connectors. *Pins + Axles + Ball joints (NOT MIXEL JOINTS), mixed on 2+ axis. Those combinations are the heart of Bionicle.*
Nice analysis. IMO SCCBS was a good approach for more articulation and decoration customization, but its great flaw was the "standarization" of decorative pieces, that bring us to the issue you mention of bulkiness. Maybe if SCCBS relies more in Pins and Axles to add Decoration instead of Ball Joints "in the middle of the limbs" would be a nice improvement. This said though, I would say that neither of both systems is the best (but if i have to choose it would be the whole G1 pieces), because the best MOCs I've seen are those who uses both type of pieces.
the most important part of a BIONICLE G3, should be the story and advertisement both of those where amazing for G1, at the beginning, but the longer it went on, the more difficult it became to get into G2, was too basic of a story, with a big lack of advertisement Ninjago, has a long story that is easy to get into, and while the trailers are... fine, it is the series that is the big advertisement for Ninjago so, in my mind the best way to go is -a simple story to get into and follow, but always has mysteries to figure out -a new series, for Netflix, that streams alongside Ninjago (maybe even do a crossover) also, the characters need to look distinct (a big problem of G1, was most characters were very copy-paste)
Imagine bringing back all the classic characters updated with the CCBSystem. Not a complete reboot of the story but just an overhaul of the figure designs. Imagine Toa Inika, Toa Mahri, Piraka, and Barraki with all these updated designs. Call it the “Bionicle Legends” line
One example of the possibility that they could still have the molds is the woody legs that was brought back in the avatar sets and is going to be used for dr eggman in the upcoming sonic sets. I can totally see it being a adult builders set or theme since even young fans of G2 are adults now. But I guess we have to see if anything happens in 2025.
Honestly, if they do this it would be a massive W if they do it with the pre hero factory style. I’m not exactly saying that the new skeleton frame + armor plate style they created was particularly bad but for some reason it just doesn’t feel right to me for bionicle. Am I crazy for wanting this or does anyone else agree with me?
The skeleton thing is what actually killed it. They kinda went the route they were actually planning from the beginning. We need that cool hybrid biochemical theme not this weird half dead skeleton thing. We need the G1 style with the story type too
Bionicle music still goes hard. I garauntee bringing back Bionicle would be a huge profit, since nostalgia and novelty will be both present for old and newer fans. And if animations, media, music etc still have same quality as in the past, man are we in for a wild ride.
Honestly? If it comes to bionicle, i'm counting on Faber to continue. He has been there from the begining and if somebody has to continue the feel, story and all that, it's him.
Tbh if G3 does come, it should mix the familiar G1 story with a twist. Either as a new story with a G1 vibe/easter egg hints or the G1 story but with alternative directions to be different from the original. After all, this would be the perfect final story to bionicle (although it would be great to keep going longer than expected) since that would be 3 generations. You know what else there is 3 of? The Bionicle Virtues : G2 = Unity G1 = Duty G3 = Destiny. What I'm suggesting is crazy but, after G3 has had it's story, to blow the minds of everyone, to reveal that if it's successful that all bionicle generations are alternative timelines/worlds that are all connected. Allowing the finalé to be one of the most epic battles ever. Heroes from G1, 2 and 3 uniting together to fight against evil for the final few waves. A pipedream sure but it would be perfect to see all 3 Tahu's from each generations battle side by side.
My hope is that the sets and stories are separated and treated more like Gundam and Transformers, where there are approachable and advanced versions of the same character. Like what a lot of adult bionicle fans have been moccing.
My prediction is that the toa will look like the tahu GWP and they would cost around 12$, we will also have matoran in mystery boxes for around 5$, we will also have titan sets, similar to those marvel action figures for around 30$, and we would also see some normal LEGO sets with villages or rahi
I grew up with g1 and never got into g2 so i kinda hope they look more like the og Bionicle. Its a very unique look that made it so special and i think that is what made it so popular along with its story
i hope that they dont try to combine the lego and bionicle piece types, because i like the fact that lego and bionicle are different worlds with their own rules for functionality and design
I think if they want to bring back Bionicle, if they did do it in the normal system lego then it wouldn't really *feel* like bionicle. Bionicle pioneered the bionicle system, and even when CCBS was established people initially just called it the new bionicle system. That style of system, with ball joints and connections, that's what Bioncile is. I'd love to see a return to CCBS, with some more technic integration. The system was so good for posability, customization, and gave you really solid looking creations. Also, like said in the video, using a different system like CCBS would help keep the lines distinct on a fundemental level. I could also see them doing something smaller scaled, targeted at the older audiences. At least initially.
My favorite Bionicle pieces were those from Hero Factory. I can understand why some would be displeased with the fact they don’t integrate well with the system pieces, but they were still just so easy and satisfying to use
Honestly, I'd rather either Bionicle to keep it's G1 history and not return, or at least come back to finish the missing ending to the story in some way. Heck, I'll be interested if the reboot was much more fleshed out than it's G2 variation did. G2 wasn't bad and I still have the wave 1 sets, but the story felt like it was too undeveloped to really kick off as hard as G1 did. Cheers for the video, and "all aboard the hype train" if the leak turns out to be true!
When bionicle g2 was coming out, for me it was at the awkward amount of time where I had stopped actively caring about them ("you're too old for toys" bs mentality) but not long enough for me to have nostalgia. I am kicking myself for not getting them then considering how hard they are to find now. If lego did it again, I guarantee I would not make that mistake again
I would like to hope for a return to the Technic-CCBS hybridization that 2016 introduced. I think the main issue with the 2015 and 2016 sets is that there were far too many Shelfwarmers and budget inequalities. Some figures obviously got a lot more love and care than others, like 2015 Tahu and 2016 Kopaka, while others like Skull Skorpio and Magma Beast look unfinished in comparison. maybe sticking to a unified Pricepoint (ie: all Toa are $15, rather than having two at $25) would help balance the budget between sets?
Yk what would be the best idea for G3 Bionicle return? Going back to finish of G1's story and continuing off of that. The events on Spherus Magna, Velika, Marendar, the Toa Nuva and Tahu Mata, the remaining 5 Toa Mahri and other characters that were there. Maybe add in new characters like Glatorians and Agori and just continuing the story and fully end it off. I believe it ended unfinished with the red star story with Kopaka and Pohatu meeting Mavrah. Lego should recreate old school type Bionicle technic pieces but stronger like CCBS with more better designs. I think a continuation from G1's story would be amazing instead of making another fake remake like G2. G2 toa have masks of powers based on their elements, fire, water, Jungle???? and so on. I missed the g1 masks, some were op in the story and looked good as official set pieces. But honestly, I'd like to see if people would agree with me on this and if this would bring old fans back and make Bionicle what it once was, a legendary Lego line.
Although I'd agree with that that could alienate a potential new audience. If they do it would have to be told as a B plot or a new plot which links to the original with flashbacks
@@serina3872 Yee true, like a flashback of some of the events that happened in better quality and then jumps right in with the deep lore and story right where it left off.
No, the g1 plot is too big and confusing. But then g2 was boring. So maybe they could take more things from g1 and make a new story, not a boring one like g2 and not too complicated like g1
@@reamnit89 Nah, man, a lot of Bionicle fans would prefer G1 continuation for G3, the whole point why G1 was the best because of world building and story telling. It wasn't bland like any other Lego series, it had a lot of love and effort put into it. Although it had problems in the story and set wise with some parts being fragile, but overall it was near perfection. G1 continuation would get all Bionicle fans excited and to finish off the epilogue where we last left off. G1 wasn't complicated, it just had more life and backstory of characters. Any real fan would love to know more and ask questions and get answered by the creators of g3, kinda like with G1 and AskGreg. G2 was so bland and although the hype was big, it only lasted 2 years and its gone. But who knows, G3 could just be some boring small system build set of 1 character or something and that's all. Or maybe just won't happen at all.
@@reamnit89 Also, G1 Bionicle, like the main idea started cus of Christian Faber's brain tumour and the medicine he took which gave him an idea to create Bionicle and that's how the first year of 2001 storyline happened and the big reveal in 2008 with Mata Nui, representing Faber himself. There was a deeper and emotional meaning behind G1 which touched our hearts. The love for G1 Bionicle will never end. G2 was just a horrible reboot using CCBS Hero Factory style and just ended in a weird way. Like a rip off of g1.
There was once a dream that was Bionicle G3. You could only whisper it. Anything more than a whisper and it would vanish... it was so fragile. For real though it would be cool but it's all speculation.
My personal hope for G3 is actually that it picks up where G2 left off with the Mask of Time plotline, and canonises the implication that the Mask of Time in both settings are two halves of the same thing, maybe even directly connecting the settings to let both of them get an actual continuation. It's not likely, and pure cope on my end, but I really like the idea, and I can always dream, right?
I really hope they're not going to bring it back in the blocky SCCBS style, I don't really like the clumsy bulky look of those. Bionicle's unique pieces are part of what made it so desireable and I think lego shouldn't try to appeal to the entire lego fandom here but focus on the target audience a series like Bionicle will likely get. Make Bionicle sets stand out like G1, nothing like any other Lego themes.
alright, if this is true, the reason why it might take so long (2025??) is maybe Lego trying to make a show?? though its unlikely I'm still shooting this out here just incase it actually happens :)
I think that they'll bring back the old models... because Bionical saved the lego company and is one of the main reasons why Lego is still around. So you would think that they would keep some relics from their major past successes
Bionicle frustrates me because the story was so good, but dark and lots of feelings of hopelessness and despair in deep themes underneath it, while being sold and marketed by Lego, who think children cant handle the mature themes. I remember as a young kid it seemed like theyd always hold it back when the comics themselves would go absolutely hard. Remember the Pirahka? Such an amazing villainous group, and they just had to market some stupid rap song because the marketing was out of touch with the main story and themes. Bionicle fits more in Dark Souls style universe, where the world is dying but theyre doing everything they can, sacrificing themselves to keep away the end of their world
Honestly, Bionicle died in 2010, they tried it in 2015, but it failed within two years because the kids weren't attracted to the new corny story. i really hope G3 Bionicle will never happen, it was good how long it lasted. At the time the Bionicles saved the Lego, because innovative and the intricate story was interesting for kids, in the present, now, LEGO has no difficulty and is recognized, popular all over the world, it is too strong it does not need the "BIONICLES"
Exactly this. Bionicle had a good run while it lasted, I will always remember it fondly in my heart, and I even anticipate the few fanmade games and conent that is being made to this day. But I don't trust LEGO to recreate the magic from the good old days, specifically for those reason you just listed, they already tried, they have no need to tend to their former fanbase given their popularity, and even if they made new Bionicle product, I fear they would turn out to be overprized cashgrabs just like the rest of their recent lineup...
Bionicle and ninjago do occupy a similar niche. If this leak is true and they're making system Bionicle, maybe they're also canceling ninjago? I can't imagine why they would do that, but I dont think anyone saw bionicles cancelation coming either.
Think that CCBS from hero factory is what sank bionicle G2 tbh. The reboot just felt like hero factory 2 with those build styles and nothing like what made the original bionicle so special
I think CCBS and it's subsequent iterations are the way forward, but simply with either build in compatibility to integrate system, maybe even a concept of CCBS styled frames, a technic hybrid part that bridges to system, and so on. Bionicle has such iconic shapes that are unique to it, trying to recapture it in system will be a disservice to both systems. System, bricks, aren't mean to be trying to approximate the curves and shapes bionicles style became. Personally I have no interest in system becoming heavily integrated into Bionicle beyond novelty sets. Bricks attach in such a way that there is always a sheer line, great for majority of semi-static builds. But a full on action figure having a sheer line where it will just part ways with itself, unless reinforced with brackets or technic parts would be... folly. The system mechs we got already have to concede and add mini-ball joins and rotate plates sideways, but they'd still shed parts of handled a bunch I imagine.
Don't do this, don't give me hope😢
I mean to be honest, you don’t need hope : ) it doesn’t matter if they bring Bionicals back or not, the news alone helped popularise Bionicals again and made the Bionicals community that’s always been active and never stopped being so, even more so.
I’ve already seen some really cool custom Bionicals people have been showing off already, my favourite was a cool snake lady Bionical.
So many fan made ones will likely be / are likely already being sold as fan projects, so we will get Bionicals regardless from the community ^u^
Just don't give me a hand full of system blocks lol
Ikr
I do hope they come back and .. stay back with a good story and not a gift with purchase.. like you know I hope there good like the old ones
Watch the Lego Avengers code red trailer
I'd love to see G3 provide a platform for Technic to branch out of sports cars and construction vehicles. I kind of miss the days of whacky 2000 Technic where there was way more variety.
YES
YEAH
YEAH!
Moving Bionicle? COUNT ME IN
FUCK YES
I think if Bionicle does return to include system parts, then we will see a lot of new system pieces that emulate the look of old Bionicle, like the pistons and coils, and those parts will be used for greebling in multiple other sci-fi themes.
The gift set tahu is probably the way to go. Yea we won’t have masks or the cool parts but ccbs parts aren’t real in existence besides a few parts so lego might not remake the molds
@@awesomeguy9513 Maybe system compatible masks that look like the originals would work. Just with studs on the inside instead of a big stick you put in their mouth.
@@ashtonkrause7211 not to be the ackshully guy but they started out with a stud connection!
I would like to see Bionicle come back, as long as the writing is as good it was in the original.
I would also argue that Bionicle actually set the standard that Ninjago has lived up to.
What writing? 😂 lore was for 5% of the fans
@@FireJach It was the foundation that made everything else good, so even if people weren't reading it, it mattered because it was what the sets were tied to.
@@FireJach Only reason I got back into Bionicle was for the lore. It's peak Sci-fi, on the same plane as star wars, warhammer, dune, etc...
As long as the sets are cool, last gen sets were just meh
Personally i'd like a retelling of the G1 story but with some changes to fix the problems i noticed with it.
If this is true, I sincerely hope that Lego makes G3 much more like G1.
Ya, I would like to see the more mechanical designs come back. G2 had some cool stuff but many of the sets where kinda smooth
I very much agree with you Malecith, I miss the g1 designs. I also liked phantoka series so I hope they bring back the old school stuff
G1 is perfect i hope they return to form, i showed my g1 bionicles it my nieces and nefews and they where blown away by the moving parts.
System+technic
@@gandsproductions5105 G2 did move on to the more mechanical designs later in its life, and likely would have continued it too (maybe bringing back more bionicle pieces)
CCBS was abandoned far too early imo
So much more potential could've been had, plus Hero Factory holds a special place in my heart, so I'd love to see it all make a resurgence
Honestly, I feel that CCBS could have gone so far, but alas, the beautiful die young
@@EingefrorenesEisen Which 2015 toa is your favorite design-wise
I could get behind this. Would be an interesting way to execute the thing.
When I read 18+ all I could think about is bionicle sex theme. I’m sorry.
I think it'd be a good idea, but also make easier sets for kids. Like how Technic has bigger, more advanced sets like cars that more experienced builders can enjoy while Speed Stars has simple builds more kid friendly. Get back the old builder-base and attract a new audience at the same time
oof that's hard cause those sets are normally priced higher
Have the cheaper sets be for kids, while the bigger, titan/vehicle sets be for the grown up/ collectors base. That a good way to set them up!
I'm 30 years old and a gen1 lover. If BIONICLE is to return, I will imbrace it with open arms.
22 and same brother!
It'd also provide better support for System than the originals, since the pieces would ideally be designed to follow the CCBS technique of "Skeleton, Armor, Addons" and thus make it more adaptive.
this!
If they could hybridize the older bionicle constraction methods and CCBS and the newer constraction methods it could be amazing
Much in agreement.
I don't think I'd be able to stomach a brick generation. The entire point of Bionicle was to look bio-mechanical.
But they literally look like an ordinary robots
@@КрутоусОстапthey don't
@@КрутоусОстапfound the newbie
I wouldnt have a problem with a lot of brick building included, though the core should be technic
You’re giving Greg way too much credit…
While the classic bionicle pieces aren't supported anymore, bionicle compatible ball joints that work with system are still in rotation. They could easily make a macro system style that has 'backwards compatibilty' with bionicle limbs. If they were to reboot it, I think the GWP style is most likely though, it's cheap, cute, and has already proven itself.
Ball joints still in rotation. PUN!
Nothing lego does is going to reach the level Bionicle did (people argue ninjago but truly Bionicle has surpassed being a lego toy/theme, while Ninjago will always be seen as a kids lego theme)
I would like for lego to do remakes of the toa and some popular villains in system.
@@CausticSpace
You are right about Bionicle surpassing being a Lego theme.
The Indiana Jones idol mold question is a good one to consider about a constraction system being brought back
As someone who just recently rediscovered Bionicle, I clicked on this as soon as I saw it on my recommended tab and because, well, I kinda fell out and lost interest around the Metru Nui era, and honestly, my heart breaks on how much I've missed (not gonna lie, I even like the reboot toa's design as well).

Regardless of what they do, they need to actually put in the effort to *Advertise the New Release*
I didn't know that Bionicle had a G2 until it was half a shelf in walmart. They need to buy space on youtube, and other social media sites.
Gods, imagine if they put out a 3d animated ad series like they did for the original G1?
the kanohi ignika's last words were "I will return".

Dude that would be so cool!
thats what im thinking
thats what im thinking
I'd like to imagine precious and big reinterpretations of older sets, aimed at an adult audience with a higher price tag. Those would be collectible af
If this is real I hope it uses a lot of technic as the basis of the models like Bionicle originally had
What speaks against it:
Still, there is no undeniable evidence for Lego to see that Bionicle might actually sell well aside from the GWP and now and then Twitter polls. Doing Bionicle right takes effort, so why investing it in something old if you can just as well do something new with it that goes with recent trends?
Concerns for when it should happen:
Lego does stories differently now.
They gonna used ninjago as a connection
Honestly I could see the Great Being Velika being a potential foe.
Maybe. Or even the Shadowed One.
Agreed.
Most people I know who come across them or see my sets sheepishly admit to wanting to play with them and build one for themselves 🤣
bionicle you either love it or you're wrong
If G3 comes, I hope it comes with comic books like G1 did. I loved reading them and playing my own adventures with the sets.
Bionicle is a Tale that shall be retold for generations to come…
And I’m looking forwards to telling it again.
Man I sure hope they don't hold back on the lore like they did in G2
As long as there's Constraction, I'M ALL ABOUT THAT ACTION
but in all seriousness please let it be the og ccbs pieces that originated from HF or the OG Bionicle pieces/styles of building. i'm not a fan of the brick built stuff personally. i like the unique action figure style parts. if there were to be a G3, I'd just want it to be like the first 2, but with stronger pieces and more unique pieces.
The ainart seems cool, looks like a combo of fantasy armor and the original bayverse transformers, like the first movies Optimus and bee designs
maybe we would be able to see technic constraction?
it's always a battle between constraction-bound pieces and system pieces and trying to link them together, but what if technic entered the scene?
it's famous for moving parts, cool systems
and all three ccbs, regular system pieces, and the old g1 bionicle pieces, all incorporate the pins, axels and holes from technic
so maybe it would be technic that could lend the compatibility between system and constraction pieces, and would also make for interesting action figure builds
it also has the mechanical aesthetic that bionicle is known to have, from pistons and springs to gears and other bits of detail, technic would not only make for cool constraction figures but cool bionicles too
I agree, I feel all of this is trying to re-invent the wheel.
For the story i would like a retelling of G1 but with some changes to fix the issues with the original.
the most important part of a BIONICLE G3, should be the story and advertisement
both of those where amazing for G1, at the beginning, but the longer it went on, the more difficult it became to get into
G2, was too basic of a story, with a big lack of advertisement
Ninjago, has a long story that is easy to get into, and while the trailers are... fine, it is the series that is the big advertisement for Ninjago
so, in my mind the best way to go is
-a simple story to get into and follow, but always has mysteries to figure out
-a new series, for Netflix, that streams alongside Ninjago (maybe even do a crossover)
also, the characters need to look distinct (a big problem of G1, was most characters were very copy-paste)
I absolutely want to see that
This would be amazing! The bionicle theme needs some love.
One example of the possibility that they could still have the molds is the woody legs that was brought back in the avatar sets and is going to be used for dr eggman in the upcoming sonic sets.
I can totally see it being a adult builders set or theme since even young fans of G2 are adults now.
But I guess we have to see if anything happens in 2025.
i loved the Bionicle since i was a kid so if they come back i'm going to be very happy
Yeah bionicle is cool but I would personally like a hero factory revival
Honestly? If it comes to bionicle, i'm counting on Faber to continue. He has been there from the begining and if somebody has to continue the feel, story and all that, it's him.
Copenhagen Rig.
Our Turaga does all he can.
@@normanclatcher Yes
He literally _was_ Mata Nui! 4:15
The Bionicle Virtues :
G2 = Unity
G1 = Duty
G3 = Destiny.
If G3 is true let’s hope lego remembers to actually advertise the theme.
We begin with starter characters like Tahu,Gali, and Pohatu.
Honestly, I would love more system built bonks similar to GWP Tahu and Takua. I love those guys so very much
I need the og soundtrack in the trailer for the release, Crashed better be playing while they showcase the characters.
^^^THIS
If this is actually happening, I'm clearing those shelves. I NEED Bionicle in my life again.
"They'd aim at the older generation who has money now" mate I'm 31 and still broke as f*ck this economy is Killing me financially
Ninjago is a reimagination of Bioncile in some way, that is also why they are so similar.
My favorite Bionicle pieces were those from Hero Factory. I can understand why some would be displeased with the fact they don’t integrate well with the system pieces, but they were still just so easy and satisfying to use
All they need to do is bring back and continue “g1” and I’d buy that
All of those old Bionicle molds are in fact destroyed.
I wish they'd re-release the original sets personally.
I would prefer to see bionicle come back in another piece of media, like an animated series, or even a movie franchise.
Yeah same here. Totally get you
I would like to hope for a return to the Technic-CCBS hybridization that 2016 introduced.
Make Bionicle sets stand out like G1, nothing like any other Lego themes.
alright, if this is true, the reason why it might take so long (2025??) is maybe Lego trying to make a show??
though its unlikely I'm still shooting this out here just incase it actually happens :)
if it does come back, I would prefer good old CCBS
well the GWP Tahu actually used some of those parts that ninjago used as well don't forget.
*COME BACK*
I want comstruction older style bionicle pieces
Bionicle fits more in Dark Souls style universe, where the world is dying but theyre doing everything they can, sacrificing themselves to keep away the end of their world
GIVE ME BACK LEGO BIONICLE!!!😭
I need more Bionicle
5:26
that was exactly mid bionicle. the theme was realesed in 2001, retired in 2010, and the "inika build" came out with the inika sets in 2006
Honestly, Bionicle died in 2010, they tried it in 2015, but it failed within two years because the kids weren't attracted to the new corny story.
i really hope G3 Bionicle will never happen, it was good how long it lasted.
Bring back og Bionicle, the lore behind every set and the inspiration behind them is what made Bionicle lightning in a bottle.
Bionicle and ninjago do occupy a similar niche. If this leak is true and they're making system Bionicle, maybe they're also canceling ninjago? I can't imagine why they would do that, but I dont think anyone saw bionicles cancelation coming either.
They probably won’t cancel Ninjago, I just think that G3 would me limited run of sets for like a year max (IF it actually happens)
@@TheTimurQ I hadn't thought of that. Yeah maybe they plan on just doing a couple waves and calling it good.
Probably gonna make ninjago and bionicle as a shared universe
Honestly as a g1 bionicle fan i would love to see a system style bionicle series just like the marvel larger character sets
Think that CCBS from hero factory is what sank bionicle G2 tbh. The reboot just felt like hero factory 2 with those build styles and nothing like what made the original bionicle so special
It could be a mix of two, I think the hero factory pieces are more resistant than the Glatorian sets behind
The nostalgia may make Lego tons of money
