The Great Economic Revolution Is Approaching...The End Of Our Era

  • Last year during the economic collapse, several economic events happened. The stock market crashed, unemployment rates hit record levels, and it seemed like every business you could think of was on the brink of bankruptcy. And if these events weren’t bad enough,
...quietly, in the background...something else was happening. Something that we haven’t seen in hundreds of years...an event that could very well change the fabric of our society, culture, and global economy, like we have never seen before...
France in the early 1700’s was the most populated and richest country in europe. And over the following 7 decades, things went pretty well. Mortality rates were declining, GDP continuously increased, Education and literacy skyrocketed, Industrialization was being implemented into the country, and trade with countries like italy and spain, increased by more than 900% during that time.
On its surface, this all seemed great, but in reality, nearly one third of the population of france was living in poverty. And to make things worse, almost the entirety of the middle class was struggling by the year 1770. And those 2 issues, combined with a compilation of government debt, and some burdensome tax policies, led to a new idea.
You see, France at the time had 3 classes of people. You had the clergy, the nobles, and then...everyone else who were largely the middle class and peasants. In fact, 98% of the entire population was in this third class, yet nearly all of the benefits of the current economy went to the nobles and the clergy.
For example, the nobles and the clergy only composed 2% of the population yet had 2 thirds of the say in government. Also, the nobles and the clergy did not have to pay any taxes at all despite them being extremely wealthy.
All this meant was that even though france as a whole country experienced prosperity over the previous 7 to 8 decades, the prosperity really only went to those who were the richest and most powerful people in their society.
And this all came to a head in the late 1700’s when France experienced a big problem. Several years of poor harvests from their farmland led to many people in france going hungry. But, the nobles, the king, and the clergy all seemed to be well fed and were able to pay higher prices and outbid the peasants for food. That, along with the kings inability to collect ample amounts of taxes, and overprinting of the french currency, forced King louis the 16th to call upon all three classes of citizens to get together and figure out a solution.
The third class of citizens wanted the wealthy to pay taxes, and for the government to cut spending. The king mainly just wanted money and to maintain government spending. And the nobles and clergy wanted to not only avoid all taxes, but wanted even more economic benefits from the economic system. And so, it was after this assembly of the king and 3 classes that led to one of the most important moments in the history of the western world.
You see, after the average, hungry, and poor citizens realized that the entire downside of the taxation and economic system was on them, yet they saw little to none of the upside, they decided to revolt and create their own system from scratch, without the nobles or the clergy.
So, the citizens created a revolution, they began rebelling at sites like Bastille, and soon abolished things like feudal rights, Tithes, and unequal taxation of peasants and nobles. They eventually went on to reform their system multiple times, stating that laws and policies come from people, not kings or gods...and should apply to everyone equally.
Now, even though the french revolution may not have been as successful as some may think, some say it went too far, others say not far enough...it is important to know this.
During a crisis, average people were hit the hardest and the elite of society experienced almost no downside. The unfair taxation system where the wealthiest paid the least amount in taxes also created an unsettled middle class. The compilation of government debt, The devaluing of currency, The exclusion of the lower class from political positions of power, And the view of rampant inequality between the super rich, and the poor...all of these things led to a complete transformation of society. Does any of this sound familiar to you?

      Good presentation
I will argue w. you on one point - w regards to US participation in wars.
We are actively engaged in several conflicts ( hot & cold ) since the early 1900’s. Do the history research of military engagement.. Ps While US liberated many concentration camps in Europe - at the end stage of WW2: I can’t honestly name any war that we “won”.
What we had was military engagement, occupation, participation & pull out. - Sort of like a giant dead beat dad.
      We never resolved any conflict.
We participated in conflicts - & added to the troubles of the people.
Meanwhile, the cost of war continues to rise & rise & rise.
And governments around the world - are printing new money. The only people who use legit money - are the people at the bottom who work for hourly wages.
      > The industry has been replacing people w. machines since the 1950’s. This is to help big business make more money, faster. • At some point, the workers will all be replaced by machines.
      Then what about us ?
      It’s already happening. .
People need to wake up & see what’s happening right in front of us ..

I’d say the system will collapse in on itself when governments can no longer service their debts. Basically something similar to the Great Depression or worse. But most likely there will be a war before that happens

The CCP tortures Uyghurs, Kazakhs, Uzbeks, political prisoners and peaceful protesters, Taiwanese, Tibetans, Mongolians, practitioners of the Falun Gong meditation technique, house christians and removes their organs while they are still conscious. In addition, the CCP has extermination camps in Xinjiang, where the PLA engages in systematic rapes, forced sterilizations and the killing of the unwanted Uyghurs, Kazakhs and Uzbeks who do not want to assimilate into the Han Chinese culture or atleast into the fucked up view that the CCP has of Han-Chinese culture.

More and more people might face a tough time in retirement. Low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents make it hard to save. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire.

I'm concerned about whether those who navigated the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am currently experiencing. The combination of stock market volatility and a decrease in income is causing anxiety about whether I'll have sufficient funds for retirement.

Yep! His analysis of the French revolution is ridiculous. The reason for the French revolution are 1- the rise of the bourgeoisie who wanted to participate at the level of power and 2- the fact that many noblemen had more power before the centralisation of the French monarchy (under Louis XIII and Louis XIV) and they hoped to regain some of that power by overthrowing the nobility of the robe.

Correct. If there is a radicalization of American politics it will come from the formerly prosperous middle and upper middle classes because they feel like they are getting poorer and losing social/politcal prestige. Nothing is more dangerous for the politcal elite than a bunch of angry people with college educations and struggling business owners. Who do you think led the American war for independence? It wasn't noblemen or poor people. It was a combination of well educated commoners from the middle and upper classes of American society who felt like they being treated as inferiors by the British noble ruling classes.

"The rich often forget that the only thing standing between us and them are the aesthetically pleasing thin walls they put up around their estates. Know this... that when the reckoning comes, and their avarice becomes too much to bear, that we, the people, will flood into their businesses, into their homes, and their places of worship; gold shrines and temples to their chosen God: greed itself; ivory trophies to their own cupidity; marble halls, lined with the tapestry of their materialism. We will reclaim what once belonged to us, and no one will stop us. The only thing that saved them before was their faith that we still believed in their system, that once we saw through the posture of their own rapacious dialogue, we would realize that it was in fact us that held the power, not them. This will be their hubris. Balance will be restored whether they are prepared for it or not."

Your videos are very interesting BUT in this one, you're making a big mistake in saying that it is the citizen (the average poor and hungry) that did the French Revolution. It is not the case at all even though a lot of people thinks that. It is the "Bourgeoisie", the rich people that had a lot of money but no power that did the French Revolution (the RICH people did that to get the Power. And if you think about it, the society we live in today (in 2021) is exactly that : a society where the RICH has all the power. This kind of society comes from the French Revolution). This fact is very important to understand because it is the rich people that built the new system from scratch NOT the average poor and hungry. For example, during the Revolution, the RICH people stated that (Article 1): "Human Beings are born and remain free and equal in rights" which gives rich people a HUGE advantage in front of the tribunals because they could use their wealth to get an advantage in front of a judge. A better version of that "Article 1" would add that all human beings are equal in rights AND EQUAL IN FRONT OF THE JUSTICE SYSTEM !!! But, of course, none of the bourgeoisie people would wanted that added in Article 1. The next Revolution will make sure that all humans are equal IN FRONT OF THE JUSTICE SYSTEM which means that your wealth won't ever give you any chance of getting an advantage in front of a judge !!! regards, fractalrocks from Montreal, Quebec.

If you are expecting your dreams to come through cheaply, then you need a change of mind. Success is not for people who give up easily, its not for lazy people, its not for people who give excuses. Success comes to men who are dedicated, committed and ready to give their dreams all it takes to be fulfilled. So I ask again, what manner of person are you? Someone who gives up easily? That’s not why the Soviet Union fell, the collapse of the Soviets is so inherently complicated I can’t even find the time to type it. But no there was no revolt when it fell. Infact there was a referendum which almost 80% of the people voted to maintain the Soviet Union. The western powers which infiltrated the now weak governments ignored them. Then it collapsed and in 1992 revolutionary tension actually started up again to violently bring back the Soviet Union. But then the west steadily provided empty promises as the East fell more into poverty and had less time to organize revolts and spent more time working to make ends meet.

The system in France was a bit more complicated than that. Prior to Louis XIV the nobility would invest in their lands and the people they ruled over. After Louis XIV used extravagance to pacify them (Versailles) they did not. All was well and good up until kings started indulging in the trap that Louis XIV had set for the nobility. As such leading to a lack of a strong king by the time of Louis XVI and also lacking a nobility that would skillfully govern their own lands led to the whole system being ineffective. So it wasn't really the fault of the nobility, they were made soft and weak intentionally for the good of the State. The fault was with whoever raised the successors to Louis XIV or whoever was governing for them. Or perhaps it was his fault for dismantling the old system without making sure his successors would be as motivated to govern as he was.

According to a June 2017 report by the Boston Consulting Group, around 70% of the nation's wealth will be in the hands of millionaires and billionaires by 2021." This was the last published number that is fixed. Since that its got even more concentrated but they refer to it only as "above 30%" but no more concrete numbers...so they do not lie since 40% or 50% are all above 30%. -- More numbers OFF "IRS data allows us to measure. The top 0.1 percent of taxpayers in 2018 paid a greater share of the income tax burden than the bottom 75 percent of taxpayers combined." or "In 2017, the top 1 percent of taxpayers accounted for more income taxes paid than the bottom 90 percent combined" STOP MAKING UP DATA !

8:51 "Thinking back to the French revolution, the reason why the revolution occurred was not because of some great Enlightenment thinking, it was because of wealth inequality"
This is a very ignorant view of the French revolution. Your account of it hits on all the cliches, most prominently that the revolution was an uprising of the poor destined to topple an out of touch elite in the Clergy and Nobility.
The reality is very different. The engineers of the French revolution were NOT starving peasants, on the contrary, they were some of the most privileged members of society. Peasant revolts were common in medieval France, they were called "jacqueries" and they never led to any revolution. Contrary to what people think, a revolution is nearly always the work of a dissident section of the elite, what the Soviet called "the intelligentsia". The English civil war and the glorious revolution, the French revolution, the American revolution, the Russian revolution, the November revolutions in Germany, the Iranian revolution, the velvet revolutions etc... all had wealthy elite members as their leaders.
The truth is that the French revolution occurred because a new class of subjects emerged: the bourgeoisie. These were basically rich or comfortable members of the Third Estate who lived in cities (bourgeois originally meant those who live in the "bourg" of the town) and who prospered in trade, commerce, the law and finance. Many of them, a good 5% of the Third Estate, had standards of living that were higher or similar to most members of the clergy or the nobility. This is another myth, that the nobility and the Clergy were all stinking rich living a life of opulence while everyone else starved. That's false. Most clergy members were poor countryside priests who deliberately chose to live a life of destitution. The peasants respected them greatly and they were also often teachers in small villages. To a lesser extent, most members of the nobility were modest land owners whose main privileges were not economic but institutional. They were in charge of running things as a mayor would.
Many of the bourgeois however, were living very respectably but as members of the Third estate, had no constitutional privileges and demanded to be able to participate at the level of power. All the famous revolutionaries, Danton, Robespierre and most of the leaders came from that class and were mainly lawyers, writers or scientists.
At the 1789 Estates General, the picture at 3:08, the representatives of the Third estate were not starving peasants, they were mostly "notables" or locally important members of the Third estate. In fact, some of them were members of the Clergy, like Sieyes, who elected to represent the Third Estate. About a third of the delegation from the nobility and the clergy joined the Third estate at the tennis court oath (pictured at 3:36) to create the first incarnation of the National Assembly. Support for the revolution was widespread among clergy members and the nobility, right up to the very top. The Duke of Orleans, the king's cousin and second richest man in France, was a key member of the revolution and was elected deputy under the name Philippe Egalite (Philippe Equality since he only had a royal name). The architect of the nationalisation of the assets of the Church, Talleyrand, was a bishop.
So the reality is that the French revolution was not a revolution of the "people", it was a re-organisation of power among the elites. The two key social dynamics were 1- the bourgeoisie's rise to power and 2- the power struggle between the nobility of the robe and the nobility of the sword while the more distant cause was the financial problems of the state due to bad harvests and debts incurred during the American war of independence.
So I'm afraid the idea that the French revolution was the people overthrowing the elite is simply not supported by the facts. The link between wealth inequality and revolution is also very dubious because it ignores the main driver of material well-being which is income. Most people don't care if they're rich but nearly everyone wants to have a higher income. Wealth and income are only loosely related and only in the long run.

A quote from the Book - This Time it's Different : "Perhaps more than anything else, failure to recognize that precariousness and fickleness of confidence - especially in the cases in which LARGE short term debts need to be rolled over continuously - is the KEY FACTOR that gives rise to the This-Time-it's-Different syndrome. The stated goal of the Soviet Union may have been equality, and there may have been individuals who actually believed in the idea. However, there was always an elite class in the USSR, and nothing close to equality was reached. After recovering from WWII, the Scandinavian countries reached much higher levels of equality, and except for minorities and civil rights issues, the vast majority of white Americans were close to equality after WWII due to the primacy of the economic power and the long-term economic bubble or cycle. I find it interesting that Kennedy chose to cut income tax rates, when the USA could easily have taken the path of European countries instead, along with other societal improvements including civil rights.
By the way, the USA has been in a perpetual state of war. Clearly, war is not experienced the same way because it's not on American soil or on a nearby battlefield, and war is different today. Also, many Americans aren't directly effected because we have volunteer service, and service is seen as patriotic or sometimes an economic choice, and certain military actions or even participating is seen as ideological or political.
I believe you cannot discuss economics without talking about social and political ramifications. I think it would help if you were to do more research and do videos that present both sides. It's like the joke about the economist; on the one hand and the other. For every economist you have in a room you will have at least two opinions.

People here are wondering when the revolution is going to begin given our track record for complacency. Considering that we've started to mass print money last year and never stopped, it will probably be in 2-3 years when the value of the USD hits rock bottom from over-inflation. Just like what happened in 1920's Germany.

Soviet Union collapsed not because of ‘too little inequality’! In fact it was one of the World most unequal societies ever - with few party members owning everything and the rest living and working in oppressive system where death sentence/ labour camp was a way to control…

We are quite literally hurtling towards a species-wide extinction event and one side seems to believe if they act like it’s not happening it won’t happen and the other side will only take enough action to where it doesn’t upset their life too much (so basically nothing at all)

I dislike the fact that the video failed to differentiate between income-inequality and wealth-inequality. Wealth is not a cause for concern but income or opportunity is the real cause for problems that lead to revolution. The Netherlands is among the top for wealth inequality, yet it is among the best social conditions. Concentrating on wealth is a wrong approach. The solutions should concentrate more on income and opportunities.

sorry, i had to downvote this one. It's still perpetuating the myth that if the wealth of the top 1% were more equally divided it would positively affect society. this often quoted wealth fact of the top 25 equalling the bottom 160 million, while true, is highly misleading. the problem isn't that the top has soo much. the problem is that the bottom has so little. you could take all the wealth in the top 1% and divide it equally amongst everyone and no one would be much better off. there simply isn't enough wealth. the question is why? that's what you should be asking.

Your description of the French Revolution is inaccurate. It’s not the peasant who started the revolution, but rather the bourgeoisie which was well educated and wealthy sparked it. Inequality is not the only thing that spark a spark revolution, it’s mainly due to education

    • @skyleonidas9270

Ok i was curious and googled, no infact no, loui did not print any money because there was no paper money and everyone used gold silver copper and tin, then during the revolution the provisional governement expropriated all the churches properties and made paper money backed by said properties and then over printed that money and became usless quick, small details are important.

They ~probably~ just minted more coins / coins with a lower and lower % of precious metals, but I'm not a historian.
Edit: Just looked it up on the internet, they already had paper money back then.

No central banks, no financial markets, virtually no similarities to the 21st century system in many ways. A revolution today would not play out like France in 1789.

@@adamtozser4956 Yep Loui made the french pound have less silver, but the gold coin mantained its value because if not it wouldt be accepted by merchants and foreigners, aswell there where other coins from england, italy , spain and the german states circulating through france widely, plus, few people had savings back then, and the rich did have savings but in secure banks in gold, so the devaluing affected those who bought silver coins in the years that they where minted with less silver and couldnt pass them on on time which still is a few people but much less than what a wide spread devaluation would affect people now a days
