You have no idea how helpful that chart was for me, i never knew the major scale is called Ionian, and the "metalcore scale" I figured out was actually just the Dorian, thanks man

Absolutely! The only difference between any mode is positional! That's why it takes knowing where they are. Like you said, memorization is key. Loved this video dude!

Thank you so much for saying that what you are doing/showing doesn't just happen overnight. Your knowledge is pretty extensive, and many of your viewers probably don't realize how much time you have already spent learning and practicing your skill. I appreciate that about ya. Keep it real, Ray. You definitely have something good going on here.

This!!!! Once you learn how they overlap they layout all the notes on the fretboard for a given key. You can then let your mind run wild with creating riffs or improvising using those notes.

I have a love/hate relationship with music theory as a songwriter who always loves to evolve, but I’m only diving into it to get the sound I’m looking for, for the specific project at hand. I’d agree with you, but the other mode to learn right away I’d have to say is Aeolian which is…well basically a fancy way to say minor scale but with focusing on those 6th and 7th flats, they make transition chords sound more sonically pleasing. I’ve already talked my most I can in one day about music theory aha. But on a serious note, always love how you expand your content. Definitely a go-to when I have time to sit on UA-cam.

@@xanderraymondcharles definitely can’t complain. My custom Kiesel 9 string recently came in and I’ve just been in love playing with it for my next project. And I always bring this up, but if you can get a signature guitar, I think it’s about time for you to RELEASE YOUR SIGNATURE SCISSORS SO WE HAVE EVEN MORE FUN ON NGD’S! 😂

You used Flashcards, I thought I was the only one. They're brilliant learning tools & I'm glad you confirmed it. Sharps/flats of my 6 keys (C,D,E,F, G & A) also notes of pentatonic.

I'm trying to learn music this way. I've been playing for 8 yrs and the only thing I know is learning and reading tabs. Anything outside of that I am clueless on the fret. I don't know anything about scales or the different modes. I just learned different type of modes by watching this video. So there is a lot i have to fall back on and restart. I don't evem know anything about half step or full step. lol

Comparing the other modes to Ionian is a good start. Altering to come up with a different sound. Remember though, you are changing the key when you do that. 🤓
