Reality: He never went to Oxford University. This shows how reliable TedX is as a source of information. He can count to 10 in Japanese, my kids are moderately clever and spoke three languages and one dialect fluently at the age of 10.
Yeah the promotion of this kid seems to be geared towards people that have never had kids and don't know how impressive the average child can be at a young age. I suspect this kind of promotion is one of those "diversity" things that liberals do.

It's hard work for the kids: learning languages does not come for free, but they manage. Beckford is not 'shining', he's being abused. His father said he has taken courses in Japanese but he can barely count to 10. He needs to get off the stage and back into school working but his father has persuaded himself that his son is a genius. Find me one thing the kid said that wasn't the result of him being coached
He's very sweet. The interviewer is awful. She is demeaning and laughing at him. Does she think he can't tell? Maybe find someone compassionate and intelligent to interview a genius child.

The interviewer was really unprofessional... Just because one didn't accomplish the same things at his age, doesn't mean one should laugh at the mention of any of his ambitions. They shouldn't forget that he's still a child. The impact of being laughed at as he explains what he loves and aspires to do can have a negative effect on his development. Hope one day he has an interview that truly highlights his brilliant young mind.

She is totally the wrong person to be interviewing him. She's patronising him. He says he likes talking to adults, but she's treating him like a little child - just treat him as an equal. When I teach children of that age I talk to them as equals, but she's talking down to him as if he's a little child. I'm not watching it until the end, she's not bringing out the best in him. He's brilliant and he's read philosophy at Oxford - he's not at nursery school.

Why are you all hiting on the interviewer? she did a perfect job, she had a very friendly environment and needed to make the boy to relax, he is a kid by the way so it is only a trained interviewer will set that pace and at the same time get the information from him. She was not trying to disrespect him in no way or manner. See beyond your biases.

Exactly! I'd do same if I were to be the interviewer. This is how I relate with kids and even adults. Being childish when necessary is awesome! She is friendly and I love them both.

This is very adorable! This boy needs more encouragements, mentoring and he is good to go. He has chosen a lot of things to get involved in but at this age, it is normal. Also, I didn’t think the interviewer did anything wrong. She was just trying to make Joshua feel comfortable not uncomfortable. Some people laugh when they are very nervous and when she was interviewing Joshua, she was also nervous too because I laugh when I’m very nervous as well. Well some people have there opinions but, I didn’t see anything bad or wrong of what she was doing, she was doing a fabulous job.

I really don’t know why anyone would think this or get this conclusion? She is very impressed with not only his smarts but him as a child. She obviously has not been in the pressence of genious or she would not be reacting to him as she is. She is human and in ahhh of an 11yr olds brillance! Interviewers do this with elderly who do amazing things at their age, too.

The interviewer was really unprofessional... Just because one didn't accomplish the same things at his age, doesn't mean one should laugh at the mention of any of his ambitions. They shouldn't forget that he's still a child. The impact of being laughed at as he explains what he loves and aspires to do can have a negative effect on his development. Hope one day he has an interview that truly highlights his brilliant young mind.

I was scrolling down to see if anyone spoke of her indecent attire. But I guess persons got distracted by her laughs. Laughing is NOT Always meant to be demeaning sometimes it sheer nerves and laughing discharges that uncomfortable feeling. People are sooo overly sensitive these last rounds

She is totally the wrong person to be interviewing him. She's patronising him. He says he likes talking to adults, but she's treating him like a little child - just treat him as an equal. When I teach children of that age I talk to them as equals, but she's talking down to him as if he's a little child. I'm not watching it until the end, she's not bringing out the best in him. He's brilliant and he's read philosophy at Oxford - he's not at nursery school.
