- Grab your cactus juice and place your bets! In Avatar The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra, we meet tons of capable benders- but we’re shown that they all have wildly varying power levels. Where does everyone stack up?
Okay let’s establish some ground rules! For the purposes of this video, we’re focusing on characters that originated in these two primary series, not the comics- though we will be citing the comic to contextualize certain characters and their feats. We’ll also be grouping some folks together, noting who is a stand out within those groups, obviously we don’t want to waste our time breaking down each individual soldier of the Dali.
We’re also glossing over some folks- healers who don’t fight and characters that show no quantifiable level of bending on screen, like that Canyon Guide whose like “AH MY LEG” and then GTFOs, or Fire Lord Izumi who we simply just assume can bend.
The rankings are developed based on multiple factors, raw power is a big one, but a dexterous mastery of technique is also important, as is a character’s potential to use rare subforms of bending such as Blood or Metal Bending. Sometimes characters who’ve bested others in battle will rank lower, but it’s important to remember that exploiting a weakness or getting a lucky shot off doesn’t necessarily mean the winner of a fight is more powerful. Think Mako vs Ming-hua, Ming-hua has a unique mastery of water but is beaten thanks to good old Pokemon type weaknesses. We’ll be including power-ups like the Avatar state in this list, this is mostly because it’s impossible to gauge certain characters without their power-ups as they do little to no bending on screen without them. Obviously these rulings leave some room for debate, so feel free to add your 2 cents to the comments, just please be respectful to your fellow Avatar fans.

Because if they're talking about potential then aang should theoretically be first due to him only learning the elements in one year and being only 12 years old at the time. But simply by what's in the episodes and comics, korra is stronger.

Ryan Rodriguez Yakone is downright BROKEN. Dude can bloodbend multiple people at the same time (the entire courtroom which includes Toph, all her officers, AND AANG) without the assistance of a full moon. Not to mention the only way to escape blood bending is to be a stronger blood bender (like when Amon resisted Tarrlok’s blood bending) or to activate the avatar state (like what Aang did in the flashbacks).

Amon wasn't a great waterbender. Or at least we never see that. He only was shown to learn basics, after that for the rest of his backstory he was mastering blood bending. He was hands down the best blood bender out there, but without it I don's think he would defeat Ming Hua.

I’m glad someone brought this fact up. My mans Tenzin was bodying Zaheer in style. Boi didn’t have a scratch on him until he got quadra teamed by their whole squad AND STILL WAS KNOCKING THEM AROUND. Plus, the Red Lotus was apparently able to “alone beat any bender”, so I think that places Tenzin in the higher areas.
Zaheer didn't enter the void when he faced Tenzin. With the ability to fly and extremely long range attack, he can easily take down anyone in an open area.
@@習特勒-g6l Zaheer's flight kinda loses its special stance among airbenders in the following season when they incorporate the gliders into their uniforms to fly though... Tenzin in the final season wouldn't have any trouble at all keeping up with Zaheer in the air.

@@driveknight9959 Opal and Kai didn't have any trouble dishing out attacks when they took out the bandits while flying. Sure, Zaheer's flight is still the best, but it isn't enough to bridge the skill gap between him and Tenzin. The glider should be enough for Tenzin to keep up with Zaheer in the air and still defeat him.

Guess we forgot that Aang took on the same blood bender and it didn't take him an entire villain arc to defeat him lol.
Aang didn't take on the same bloodbender, Aang took on his father. Amon was the son of the Bloodbender that Aang fought. But I still believe Korra isn't #1 because she did lose against Amon, The only reason she won was because she failed to learn Airbending, Therefore she fought him with Airbending that she unlocked because Mako was about to get his powers taken away. And the reason Aang didn't have an entire Arc was because he wasnt a very important character, And couldn't take up that much screen time.
And without the Avatar state he would've died. Just like Korra, so don't act like he couldn't have done better if he were in the same situation

Couple of things to note: toph was a child when she fought bumi and would go on to become far more powerful, her seismic sense spanning the whole world. Also, during their fight, tenzin is clearly the superior bender against zaheer and it takes the whole of the red lotus to defeat him.

My take against Aang vs Korra: Aang is weaker than Korra with three of the four elements but when it comes to air bending he completely outclassed her. Also while Korra is able to go into the Avatar state with ease it’s power is NOTHING compared to Aang’s avatar state and that’s because Aang is far more spiritual than she is.
the avatar state thing is also because post-season 2, korra lost her connection to her past lives, and hence, when she was in the avatar state, it was really just her plus raava while aang got himself, raava, and 10,000 lifetimes of power.

Yes, this is true, even so, the few times she goes into the avatar state is nothing like the raw power we've seen with Aang. Korra doesn't hold back so we've seen her full capabilities. However, Aang always holds back he has gone into the Avatar state more times in season one than Korra has gone in season one and the first half of two, and look how destructive they were.
I can't tell you how many times I've gotten frustrated at him for not using his full power while fighting people like Ozai or Azula and how he sometimes prioritizes his air bending in a fight. If this man were more like Korra he could've mastered the Avatar state easily and been more adept at the other elements. However, we all know that Aang never wanted to be the avatar, he just wants to have fun and be a kid, and his philosophy as a monk holds him back in some ways.
The show has even said how Korra is a lot less spiritual than Aang and that's why she couldn't do Airbending for most of season one (Airbending is the most spiritual element).
This is why I don't like to pin these two against each other. We can't really say that Korra is stronger than Aang and we can't say that Aang is stronger than Korra. Korra is about three years older than Aang, and she had mastered all of the elements while Aang at the end of the series has only Mastered two and could moderately control the others.
However, if we were to pin themselves against each other when they are both the same age and both had mastered the elements, I would say Aang would win.
Aang is cleverer than Korra and instead of using brute strength and power as she does in a fight, he likes to play tricks and look for an opening.
Korra would be a difficult match for him though because KORRA IS A BOSS!! Even if he were to hit her with a couple of moves she would just shrug them off. Korra would have a hard time hitting Aang though because of his superior speed and agility but once she does Aang would either lose the fight or be knocked out for a brief interval.
For me, this is less of a battle of Avatar vs Avatar and more of a battle of brain versus brawn or speed vs strength.

Can we talk about how Tenzin fought the entire Red Lotus, and lost because Pli'i and her broken ability was just a bit too much? Like he was whooping Zaheer, then even with Ghazan and Ming Hua having him on the ropes, he was able to adapt and keep the fight competitive.
Yeah, he was kicking Zaheer's ass, and as soon as he went full tornado to take on them all, he got shot by P'li. Saying he got a "whooping" from the Red Lotus is major disrespect.
Tbh, all things to say for Zaheer! But he was the weakest member of the Red Lotus. He practiced the culture of the Air nomads his entire live but he was quite new in the bending department. He was strong, above average even for normal airbenders. But the weakest of the Red Lotus.
Tenzin is trained by Aang, has had the same practices as Zaheer but with the years of experience added up. He may not have been the spiritually strongest airbender we've seen in the series. But skill and finesse would make him a powerful airbender!
He was kicking Zaheer's ass, but Zaheer was the weakest member, he didn't really stand a chance once others joined in, sure he didn't drop instantly (till pi-li got him) but he was blatantly out matched against Ghazan and ming-hua

Korra was the most mentally weak avatar. She folded against all of her opponents and lacked proper judgment. She was hot headed and always lacked the amount of patience and knowledge to deal with a problem. Aang did what was needed to be done even if it was passively. She couldn't even endure metal removal that was poisoning her smh... overly emotional and irrational if i had a list of avatars she would be last or second last. Just super unreliable imo. The show itself is pretty fun. The action is better visually but thats about it.

I don’t know about being one of the weakest avatars but i do agree. She’s way too hot headed and doesn’t analyze anything just wants to go head first into a fight. But she is powerful and can fight when she finally knows what she’s doing
You are overestimating Aang, the guy who needed the Avatar state to bail him out every single time versus Korra who could actually take on her opponents. He's better at air bending, but that's it. Aang didn't even master all the elements at the end of the series so don't act like he was a master

Bro. Honestly it isnt her fault that the cycle was reset. Alot of avatars would been destroyed by Vaatu. Korra had a fair fight because she lost all the past avatars due to Unalaq. So she would SMOKE Vaatu is she still had the power and knowledge of the other avatars.

She was way to hot headed, never thought anything through and relied on her raw power but raw power won't get you through fights, aang had good raw power and an overwhelming avatar state but he was always patient and thought things through. The only thing korra really had on him was metal bending but that didn't matter bc aang could energy bend and he also blood bended once. Korra was to weak minded, she took one loss and completely gave up, disappeared for 3 years and let the earth kingdom fall. And to top of that her avatar state was extremely weak

Zuko is definitely more powerful than many benders even his father to some degree Zuko learn form the dragons the first fire benders meaning he is able to use the original art of fire bending something his sister doesn’t know and his father doesn’t know Azula is also weaker than her brother her mind clouds her power losing much of her strength with a calm mind she would be more powerful than her brother not to mention his fighting with out bending because is an expert swordsman and good at stealth and with his age he had to have learned more powerful fire bending making his in the top 10

He beat azula and that’s that, yea I guess she was slipping but so was zuko all the times they fought before, she knew how to get in his head. This was the only fight he was the calmer one and he outsmarted her until she went for katara when she knew she couldn’t win. Avatar Kuruk is SOOO underrated. He just told people that he was chill, he just made himself seem like he didn’t care. He actually fought and defeated A LOT of spirits. After avatar Yang Chen, he felt like he had to preserve her reputation, instead of showing her up, so he kept his reputation low on purpose. Koh actually took his girls face as revenge for all the spirits he killed, it’s not very well known for a reason though, so I understand his place on this list
The novel with Kuruk's past came out after we made this, but it was great shock and really expands his legacy!

I think the fact that Aang had such a short time to "master" the elements, combined with using an ability to remove bending while being a pre-teen makes him number one over Korra. I get Korra is insane from her spirit bending, but she also had her connection to ALL of the past avatars severed, making her weaker and less knowledgeable than Aang.
She's also considerably weaker in overall technique...
People keep saying She's physically stronger, that doesn't mean shit in the avatar universe, technique is what makes a character strong and aang is far superior in that aspect.

IDK exactly how you did it but Aang had mastered only water when he faced Ozai and yet his other elements were so badass.... at age 12, he bended his opposite element in just a day of real trying while it took Korra 17 years of trying every single damn day to bend air at the most dire situation.
PS; Aang has all 200+ Avatar powers in him in the Avatar state plus Raava while Korra only draws off Raava.

Yea they broke the rules of ATLA so bad Amon should be #1 if you really think about it and not count Avatar State. No matter how good a bender, you can't beat him without Avatar State unless you're also a blood bender without need for full moon. The only one I can see able to beat Amon is Aang's energy bending of taking his power away. He can do that outside of Avatar State the way it showed in the ATLA (but of course Korra destroyed that rule too).

I definitely agree that Kya is waaay too low. If dextrous mastery of your element is a factor, she was still taught her techniques by Katara and responded pretty actively to a lot of Zaheer and Ming Hua's attacks, even if she has less raw power to work with than her mom.
Hell, most of the clips you showed while dragging her were more impressive feats of bending than shown by a lot of the people immediately above her.

Azure the Lucario Aang isn’t beating Korra considering she’s better than him in 3 out of the 4 elements, she has metalbending, her hand to hand combat outclasses his, and her avatar state has stronger raw power since the Raava she fused with was in its prime whereas Aang had a Raava that was the size of a teacup.

Everyone should remember when amon's father blood bend about 30 People at the same time including toph and aang and no one, NO ONE can beat him except the avatar and pls remember that amon is even stronger than his father because he can destroy someone bending just by touching like the avatar and btw just imagine if both amon and his brother would have team up ... even the avatar in the avatar state could probably do nothing
Btw why is no one talking about the fact that avatar state is just connecting with past avatars and have access to their bending mastery, this is not just a powerup.

12 year-old Aang in the Avatar state was able to compress solid rock into a fraction of its volume and fire the dense fragments with enough force to obliterate an area the size of several football fields.
Kyoshi in the Avatar state could break apart entire tectonic plates and move landmasses.
I love Korra but she's #3 at best. Her giant spirit form was crazy, but not reproducible without the tree of time. Arguably the strongest we ever saw her was when she broke her chains and went apeshit before the poison brought her down, which was BADASS. But even then she struggled to keep up with Zaheer just because he could fly. You know who else can fly? Iroh Jr., comet Ozai, and 12-year-old Avatar state Aang. Sorry Korra fans. Maybe we'll see her get stronger in another sequel series.
I think you are forgetting that she was literally dying and fighting the poison while fighting Zaheer and she proved powerful even without the past lives by defending herself from the red lotus and you forgot when she created a spirit portal anyway when did Aang do that I don't remember he being able to do that.
@@christopherhernandez7856 true on the fire bending bit, but once he was in the Avatar State it hardly mattered. His power over the other elements was just as impressive, and he could have easily beaten Ozai without firebending, which is pretty much what he did towards the end of the fight. You're also right about Korra's impressive power despite being poisoned, but we also haven't really seen her more powerful than that, and considering how devastating the poison ended up being later, it stands to reason that it hadn't kicked in at that point. I will give Korra this though: she managed to best Amon with air bending alone without the use of the avatar state, which is more than Aang could manage with Yakone. It can be argued that she's more powerful than Aang especially in the willpower department, but to put Korra at #1 would be to put her above Kyoshi, and we simply haven't seen her perform any feats that even come close to what Kyoshi did when she literally split a tectonic plate apart and moved an entire island. Maybe #2, but certainly not #1.
@@maadtee6281 all true. Refer to my above reply to the part about fighting the poison. Super impressive for sure, but that was also the peak of what we've seen her do physically. Maybe she could have been even more badass without the poison, but based on the rest of the series there's just no instance of her doing that. But remind me if I forgot a specific moment.
As for the bit about the spirit power... the relevance of that really depends on how you're ranking these characters. If you're talking about versatility and variety of abilities, then sure, that's definitely a point in Korra's favor. But if you're talking about raw power, I'm not so sure it's that relevant. Aang did things that Korra never did either: Bonding with the ocean spirit, calming angry spirits without using Unalaq's spirit/water bending, etc. Korra was also an awesome pro bender and hand-to-hand combatant, which Aang wasn't. Korra also had stronger willpower and was more decisive than Aang. If we're comparing variety of abilities and talents to determine who is the more impressive avatar, you could definitely make the case for Korra edging out Aang, but if you're determining who would win in a straight up fight based on demonstrated feats of power, Aang wins hands down.

If we go by who wins in a straight out fight it would depend on a whole lot of circumstances like which version of them are we talking about, where do they fight, are they blood lusted or what.
Anyway let's say end of book 3 Aang fought Book 3 Korra since roughly a year passed when their journey began and let's say they fight where Aang fought Ozai the same distance Aang will basically need to fly around and find a good place to attack Korra who would probably try to over power him with earth, fire and air, he would need to create his own armour and dish korra out with a whole lot of Air in that fight since the other elements wouldn't work on her and try to put her down instantly the fight might turn out like Korra vs Zaheer with Aang running away from Korra and he trying to trap her as she flies towards him if she is able to without the avatar state.
If they fought h2h I would say it is even as Aang will try to dodge korra and exploit her weakness problem with this approach is unlike the past enemies Aang faced Korra does know how to fight an air bender and her h2h ever since she lost to an equalist has greatly improved that they are not able to touch her.
You also need to remember the people Aang faced are not as comparable to the ones that korra faced Zuko is impressive but his not that strong even Zhao, Long feng his alright, Bumi was holding back, Toph fighting style is a weak to Aangs so he is able to easily exploit it, Azula and Ozai are the only exceptions and didn't Aang struggle against Azula but hey she's a badass. While Korra enemies have advantage over her well two of them did Taarlok surprised her by blood bending, Amon was the greatest blood bender which korra overpowered, Unaloq was a master bender that in my opinion was like Ozai level powerful but korra was able to beat him most of the time until he became the dark avatar and was able to keep up with him to a degree just by her using water bending and when she used other elements she was winning the fight until vaatu came out and took raava, red lotus were true masters probably as skilled as the original white lotus depending on where they fight and kuvira is the second greatest metal bender that was compared to Toph.

Maybe I need to rewatch TLoK, but I just don't remember Korra ever displaying bending ability at a level comparable to Aang in his fight against Ozai. He compressed solid rock. Imagine the amount of energy it takes to compress rock like that. He threw boulders and water and fire blasts larger than anything we've ever seen Korra bend. If you can point me to a moment when Korra displayed bending that surpassed Aang in the finale I'll be happy to reconsider my position. Also, I'm not sure we can say the other elements besides air would be useless against Korra. Mastery of an element doesn't make one immune to it. Aang is more mobile with his ability to fly (even if he's not as fast as Zaheer), and his offensive and defensive capabilities have been shown to be greater than Korra's.
You're right about how over the course of the two series Korra has fought more formidable foes than Aang, but when measuring power I think we only need to consider their fights with their most powerful foes. If Aang fought any of Korra's foes in his Ozai fight Avatar state he would beat them no problem, with the exception of the blood benders (Korra seems to fare better against blood benders either due to her greater willpower or natural resistance to waterbending like Katara displayed vs Hama), and I'm not counting the Unavatuu fight because that's not reproducible without the tree of time.

Not really..remeber that Aang got to practice his bending in real world situations, Korra was held in a daycare and coddled so she never got the same expsosure of real threats or different benders with different styles or the motivation to actually kill her. Sparring is NOT the same as an actual fight. Id counter with the fact that Had Korra gone through aangs journey, she would have been far more competent than him because she natrually bent 3 out of the 4 elements without issue so unlike aang who had to really build from the basics especially with earth bending, she would be able to completly master fire and earth with ease having already mastered water(if her story was the same as aangs)..also if she was able to practice in the real world she would have learned to be a more tactful fighter..which was Korras issue not strenght or bending ability. Her issue was that she didnt take fights seriously and under estimated her opponents..assuming she could over power them instead of outwit them which is half of wining a fight. Aang on the other hand was gentle and sought to end fights with the least amount of confronation, which is why he used wit over brawn most of the time. Id argue that Aang would have been a better bender if he could have learned the way Korra did and vice versa because that learning style would have suited their personalities better...Aang had tact he needed instruction and praise...Korra needed real challenges and threats and to lose more often as a younger bender to not have an inflated ego and to not rely on raw strenght for every fight.

Bruh this list is completely incorrect aang is the strongest he only had 12 months to learn bending and he was really powerful and korra had years to master bending and she severed her connection to her past selves and she wouldn’t really ever go into full avatar state she would always go half way or something and when aang went into the avatar state he has way more raw power

Aang was 12 years old when he stopped the hundred year and he learned all the bending in 1 year while korra took 17 years to get even close to be a master also if we compared both of them in the same age aang would easily surpass her in his ability

Apersonwholikes Cats I feel like it should also be noted that Amon avoided fighting literally any other water benders apart from his brother, who he knew he was stronger than, and Korra who he knew he had no choice but to fight. The point you raised is very likely the reason for this. Not to even mention every time he demonstrated his power it was against fire benders *at night*, outside of his fight with Tarlock and the time a god damn fire bender overcame his blood bending
