  • Check out this easy Fishing Tip for catching Trout by Trolling with Flashers. Flashers are basically devices that attract fish to your bait or lure while you are trolling. They make noise, flash, and just draw attention. Once you have the Trout's attention they notice the lure or bait that is trailing the flasher and they hit it.
    We used these flashers at Goose Lake in Washington State and had a ton of success trailing them with worms.

    You get your best hits when turning. Those stocked trout will follow your flashers for a distance. A better rig if your going to drive straight and not turn is a solid blade instead of a line of spinner blades. The turning is key when running and the drop offs from deep to shallow water will hold the schools. If you get a hit or fish, go back thru. Thats where they want to be. Have a marker ready to throw out on your first fish so you know exactly where you were at.

    Nice video. Over here in the Great Lakes we call those "cowbells", although Seps seems to call them "flashers". Snap weights can help get them down if necessary. I love trolling trout.

      Thanks! That's funny that they are called cowbells in your area.

    I have never failed using this the silver works great here in Colorado. I slay it with all colors though. I put a night crawler about 12 inches behind it with just a hook. Rip the crawler in half call it a day. Catch 10-20 fish within 3 hours. Good video man.

    Great video. A few more questions for you. 1) How do you control the depth? 2) Do you stop trolling with fish on? 3) How much line do you let out?

      In early spring/late fall when the water is colder, you can run a flasher and lure on the surface (no weights) and it will stay in the top 3-5ft of water and thats where rainbows hang out. In the summer you want to fish a bit deeper, by adding a hanging weight to the rudder or a couple large split shot/slip weight in front of the flashers. You dont have to stop trolling but you can, the key is to have constant pressure on the line as you reel in the fish. And you typically want about 70-100ft of line out, but if your motor is noisy you may need more because trout are easily spooked.

      What he said, lol. Seriously though tbar123 had some great points. A lot of depends on the water body though and the fish. This particular lake has some deep areas but most of the lake is fairly shallow (20-30ft) and the flasher trolled near the surface does a good job at calling them up.

      Sweet! Give it a shot, try a few different sizes of blades and colors, should work pretty much anywhere.

    Done this for years, but I use a walleye rig with a spinner and double hook.

      Yeah man, it's not a new technique by any means but it sure does work for some nice slow trolling. I'll have to look into that rig, Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the video! Did you or anyone else out there ever refer to those gang trolls as a "yard and a half"? While they are a producer, I still like a chrome silver "Dick Nite" trolled early morning or late evening.

    You tried this rig in Lewiston lake right? Did you catch anything?

    • @Outwestwithchris1
      @Outwestwithchris1  7 років тому +1

      Hmmm. I'm not sure if I did actually. If I did it was for a brief time and I probably didn't catch anything.

    Okay, those aren’t flashers, they’re trolls. Flashers, dodgers and trolls are all used to attract salmon IDW, and are are distinctly different.

    Trolling night crawler behind cowbells is one of the oldest tricks in the book.
    Also, get your dang fish out that water and put them on ice or burlap, soaking them in lake water on a stringer results in poor quality meat.
