I heard this song many years ago. About 20 years ago I learned the guitar chords so I could sing it to my wife on our anniversary. I did, and I think she liked it (or maybe she just loved me - I win either way). She died 6 months ago after 47 years of marriage. So now it's one of "our songs" that I sing or listen to when I want to cry my sad/happy tears of loss and gratitude. She was like a red, red rose, only even more beautiful, and she was far better than I deserved. Fare thee well, my only love.
Truly beautiful. Music and poetry evokes such strong emotions. I was looking through the bookcase and picked out the first Christmas present I bought my darling late husband way back in 1988. Inside I had written a Burns' quote about Scotia's grandeur (my husband was a keen mountaineer and loved the Scottish mountains). Those two lines of poetry transported me back to that wonderful time. I am sure your beloved wife must have loved you deeply ( and if there is a life beyond this mortal one she still does).
O my luve's like a red, red rose, That's newly sprung in June; O my luve's like the melodie That's sweetly played in tune. As fair art thou, my bonnie lass, So deep in luve am I; And I will luve thee still, my dear, Till a' the seas gang dry.
I did not actually know is a ballad to be sung. I thought of it as a poem. Actually, on our first date, finding that my (future) wife was of Scottish descent, I recited the entire poem to her. Her Scottish grandmother had read it to her, and I gained big points with her. At a later point, she commented that she had "melted" when I did so.
@@PamelaGreen354those are 2 of my dearly departed Grandma’s songs that she used to enjoy singing. I now play them on my phone to my Mum who has dementia and is a care home x
I can't get enough of this song and this rendition of it... I also like it by Kenneth McKellar very much. What a tender but powerful message to send back to my beloved husband who is bathing in the light of the elect on the other side whom I truly believe sent it to me. I love you Stan. You're my true love..!
My great great etc unkle would be so proud if he could see how beautifully hes song was delivered 200 years after hes death..... i cant get passed the intro without falling to pieces, im so thankful you people did this song... it breaks my heart xxx
"A Red, Red Rose," a Scottish love song written by Robert Burns: O my Luve is like a red, red rose That’s newly sprung in June; O my Luve is like the melody That’s sweetly played in tune. As fair art thou, my bonnie lass, So deep in luve am I; And I will luve thee still, my dear, Till a’ the seas gang dry. Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear, And the rocks melt wi’ the sun; I will love thee still, my dear, While the sands o’ life shall run. And fare thee weel, my only luve! And fare thee weel awhile! And I will come again, my luve, Though it were ten thousand mile.
Lovely ❤ Reminds me of my parents love for one another, my mom passed away in '97 & my father refuses to change his house to this day because my parents modeled their home together in '91 & he refuses to have another relationship ❤ Love you Dad who barely speaks since my mom's passing & talks about Mom everyday ❤❤

Hello and THANKYOU for this truly Amazing and touching rendition of this spectacular song. So precious to me and my family. We played Eva Cassidy's version at my beloved Father's funeral. Until I heard your song, I thought nothing and nobody could come close to Eva's glorious pipes and truth - Oh Boy was I in the dark ! I will always be grateful for this moment, listening to your song, whoever you are, Glasgow1234. You have made my day ........... I'm here in Australia, some ten thousand+ miles away, and "givin it Laldy" !!!! Please always sing ! ........You are so gifted Much love light and blessings to all who agree !
One of my favorite poems when I was in college. And am surprised there's a song rendition for it. Nice, sweet, and so pleasant to my ears. My first time to hear it, and I enjoyed it.
Some of these songs must be really old, the "tunes" seem to be recycled over time and morphed into the songs. -- Burns says, "The tune of this song is in Neil Gow's first collection, and is there called Major Graham." I think I am too lazy to look up Major Graham right now though.
My great grandmother said I was related to robert burns. Which is how I know about him. He had 20+ children so if you have some scot in you than its likely.
Bob dylan in an interview with the guardian newspaper in 2008 was asked what song or poem had inspired him the most, his answer was Robert Burns"s MY love is like a red red rose.

Did anyone else sing this in a choir arrangement with another song called "Mumbade mummada" or something else which was African sounding. Yeah this song still catches me in the feels. Also looking for this other song which was from a choir arrangement from 20+ years ago.
I really enjoyed this excellent presentation and moved by the singers beautiful voice. This was especially satisfying as all my previous self interpretations believed the song was based on some bawdy lads baloney attempt to get in some damsels knickers.
