The best analogy comparison between LC vs 4Runner I’ve heard. Thank you
So basically, it’s the same thing in a slightly different package?
Tough choice to pick between. Lc and 4runner, almost identical twin
It’s a really tough choice. I might have to flip a coin. I want both but only need one.
@@leeraymer166 well said! I would rather take an LC 1958. I love the basics of it with manual and cloth seats. That’s almost impossible to find nowadays and the old world charm will give me a smile every time I step in
Hallelujah! The rear window goes down! Easily one of the best features of Toyota trucks.
Awesome review! Best one I’ve seen so far. You’ve just gained youre self 1 more subscriber.
Welcome!
Dozen or more reviews of this have been released in the past few hours.. your's have been the best so far. Interesting and knowledgeable perspectives and no silliness, thanks!
My pleasure!
20 years ago it impressed me that Nissan had to push two models to compete with 4Runner:Xterra vs SR5 and Pathfinder vs Limited. Now Toyota has to put two models where Jeep has Wrangler covering this whole price range. I’m glad Toyota did this but I bet it took a lot of work to get corporate to sign off on it.
That said, the winner here is the GX.
Great review
Great Review!!
4th gen has gas struts to hold up hood. They still work from 2006
What a beautiful car and a true 4x4 beast. I'm stunned by Toyota recent design language... So aggressive and a huge improvement over their usual classical boring designs
Motoman has the best reviews!
The 4Runners with the black fender flares remind me of the Isuzu Vehicross.
Excellent work like always, M.
If I squint real hard, I can see the Isuzu:)
Another question: Are they still all being made in Japan?
Yes, according to another youtuber’s video.
Yes
That’s a big W.
Toyota said in the press release it is
Yes, made in Japan.
Best marathon!
Hybrid 4 cyclinder that is more powerful and gas efficient than last gen, awesome! Should see even more out on the trails and campgrounds than before. Great design!
Take my money right now, Toyota! And please tell the dealerships no market adjustment price. Please!
5-10K over MSRP at least... will need to wait a while before selling at MSRP.
@ginzero exactly to all the new taco, lc, amd 4runner, dealer is going to make good money
Wait 2-3 years to let Toyota iron out the kinks.
@@notsodelusionalyeah…..let the pawns go first for beta testing and paying market adjustments…..waiting at least two more years…diamond hands
Ford still charges 10k over on Mavericks. I laughed out loud and left
Which the best 4WD version for road use? 90% of my miles will be on tarmac but occasionally snow.
Nice 👍
Toyota’s design department is on a pretty good streak as of late.
looks like they copy pasted a durango honestly. It's gross lol.
Some folks really like this design. For me it’s meh but the Land Cruiser is perfect. Some like the GX. They are all great in their own right.
i heard the 2024 land cruiser in Canada (North America) only takes premium gas, can i put regular gas in ?
I love Toyota's simplicity, and durability
One major thing they complicated is the remote start. Major fail with the app and the remote sequence.
Simplicity? And not more durable than my Xterra!
I agree with their underpower naturally aspired engines in terms of durability, but the turbo engines are another thing (they still have issued with DPF on the diesel engines, and we better not talk about latest Tacoma and Tundra engines.
I have an 80's series, and have had a few Hilux, second gen Tacoma, and older Toyota cars, so I'm not talking out of hate, but Toyota, as any other company has their fails
@@sydgerald what’s wrong with the new Tacoma engine?
I know the tundra had WasteGate issues at launch but I haven’t heard anything about the Tacoma. A variant of the engine was also launched in the Highlander a bit before the Tacoma as well, haven’t heard anything negative about it either.
@@Fadic4 it also has issues, my brother in law is a Toyota technician and last year they replaced about 5 blocks and this year he told me they have done 4 or 5 already in his shop, I have a 2010 Tacoma manual 4x4 and I was thinking about buying a newer one, but he told me I should just keep it as long as I can if there're not issues with the truck. Then I started watching videos of owners here on YT, and there're quite a few with different problems.
Wow! You were right George. This was worth the wait and is absolutely stunning! I can’t decide between the TRD Pro and the Trailhunter though. Either way, as Roman said on his review, “Take my money Toyota!”🎉
Every day of the week I would go TRD Pro - twice on Sunday.
@@MotoManTV That’s good enough for me. TRD Pro it is then. Thank you sir!
So what's the main difference between TRD pro and trailhunter? I’m debating too.
Are you in steep hill? Or they're something wrong with the camera? After 13:45 mark, other reviewers had a straight focus.
Great content. But the pacing around while talking is so distracting.
Awesome introduction to the new 4runner
My pleasure!
My 2022 Runner TRD Sport needs the 2025 interior upgrade 😢😢. The outside looks pretty similar...
I wonder if Trd pro 4Runner will overlap with base Land Cruiser?
Price-wise it will be higher. Tacoma pricing will give you some ideas of where things will fall.
Learned a lot… Timely review they release this video. 16:47
As long as it still starts at 41k we're good
I don’t care about the back window….but it is stunning…who would think that a 4Runner would be as nice as a Land-cruiser??!!
What was wrong with the V6? With the Bronco and the Wrangler at least we have it as an option.. and the stupid battery in the floor of the trunk. Why?
Nice Ted Talk. Good thing that you wore your sensible shoes for all the pacing.
Great review of the 2025 4Runner! I will keep my 2018 Limited! Not a fan of the new design.
1:05-1:11 where’s he going ?!? Hahaha 😂
Except this generation, both SUV'S are the same build platform underneath. Landcruiser used to be a completely different model(5.7l Tundra platform).
the front looks like the 2nd gen Sequoia
I like it. I'd ditch the hybrid and go for the 3rd row.
I don't care about towing, but do care about mpg, so what are the numbers?
I’d guess around 20-25 mpg
I read it was 23
I like it- but I don't love it (referring to the design). I think they nailed the rear-end design, but the front looks too much like a Tacoma. I would have just massaged the successful 2024 4Runner front end design. It was timeless!
Agreed. The 5th gen front was so good, they could have just made it slightly more angular and called it a day
Has anyone noticed from different angles there looks like a dent in the rear quarter between fender and taillight. Maybe just the lighting but honestly doesn’t look great…
I saw that aberration in the body line too as a dent but took a second look
I loved my 4Runner 4th gen but I couldn’t stand the extra cost for fuel. Until Toyota releases a diesel version in the US I’ll be sticking with my GMC truck and saving a couple hundred a month in fuel costs.
This looks just like their other trucks. Why would I get this?
All the answers to everyone’s questions can be found in the press release
Everyone is going to buy the 2024 4 runner
Hopefully they fixed the remote starter issue. Keep it simple. A dedicated button to hold or hit twice. The app is horrible.
You can use the fob, albeit the range isn’t stellar.
I wouldn't trade my 2015 Xterra Pro-4X for this. Xterra has more interior storage (no battery in the way), narrower for tight trails, more headroom, simpler, bulletproof.
So noone is going to say the MPG?
This vehicle has not been tested for MPG by the manufacturer or the EPA, hence no estimates. That said, I don't think it will be far off the current Taco.
Think of the new Land Cruiser for the hybrid models, which have been tested seeing 23 mpg’s combined and Tacoma gas engine seeing about 19 mpg’s
Sitting in the front is actually not that harsh
V6 twin turbo needed!
I have the v6tt in the tundra. In this size vehicle, I would take this 4cyl turbo in hybrid version every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
The 4 Runner has always been my favorite Toyota design exterior wise...then you get in it and you're like....what the heck...plastic, plastic, plastic....ugh ! By the way, your pacing makes me so nervous....lol.
Thing is a boat
Respectfully disagree. Toyota has this thing about the 112" wheelbase. Not me talking here, but they say it is the key to balance between packaging and off roading. Hence they have applied the same to many of their vehicles.
At only 195 inches for a truck, I really would say it’s a boat at all. However, it’s a heavy pig, that’s for sure!!!!
You were doing good until the end. Price is not going up just a bit. 2021 I bought a sr5 4Runner 41k. That same 4Runner is 47k in 24. 6k in three years for a vehicle that hasn’t changed. The new generation will be 50k? 9 k difference in 4 model years. So prices are up significantly!
It's curious that Toyota is not letting any influencers drive the 2025 4Runner. Is the drivetrain that bad?
They never drive at the launch event. I didn’t hear any bad reviews of the drivetrain in the Land Cruiser, which is the same. Same with the Tacoma. It’s gonna be fine.
Is this a good choice of truck for a 26 year old man to take his dog up to the mountain s ?
What kind of road leads up to the mountain? 4Runner is no rock crawler Jeep Wrangler with lifted suspension .
Thank you for this. Keep doing more Toyota/Lexus, no more Kia/Hyundai.
I SEE A TWO DOOR 4RUNNER. WIRH REMOVAL ROOF, AND CARGO IN THE BACK
Some people don't care about EV, or FSD, they just prefer to drive .......
I really really really really don´t get it..... but i like it :D
Being a Toyota possibly means is the best car one can buy in a set category so whoever is into this, don´t think too much about other options and go for it.
Oh, and that IWC (or hamilton cause it´s impossible to see with the moving hands :D ) .... love it.
Thank you, Javi . . . IWC Pilot 41 Goodwood Green.
@@MotoManTV great. Always find iwc models being a touch too big for myself but they look incredible
Get me a gas operated 4Runner with Third Row.
Everything going 4 cylinder now. I have no problem with it as long as it can deliver power, except…they work harder and won’t last as long as a 6 or 8, they usually don’t sound very good, and well, it’s a 4 cylinder.
Honda passport is still a v6. They have an off road version, too
@@beatrixbrennan1545 just a matter of time since the 4 bangers are making more power in turbo guise…hence the Type R.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
It's OK, but they had 15 years to design this thing! I should be spectacular!
Had hybrid - never again. And will it go 200,000+ miles with that 4 cylinder turbo charged engine. Highly unlikely. Can't spin something like a turbo at 150,000 rpm and expect it to last.
So why pick the 4runner over the land cruiser
You prefer less interior space in 4Runner thanks to its tapered sides versus Land Cruiser
You prefer one style vs the other? Toyota basically is giving you a choice of 3 different wrappers for the same segment of vehicle. If you can afford all three, then pick the one that speaks to you the most I suppose. Me personally, I’ve owned 2 generations of 4Runners and I love what Toyota/Lexus did with the new Landcruiser and GX, but right now I’m leaning toward going with another 4Runner. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of these honestly.
No manual transmission! That is as far as I need to hear.
I believe the last time the 4Runner had a manual option was 2001.
I was hopeful since the Tacoma still has the option... But alas.
I believe that you won’t be able to buy any brand new vehicle very soon.
Hate to break it to you, but you may want to move outside the us. Many more standard transmissions than here.
Second row is not a 40/20/40 split. This is a big fail for people that like to carpool for ski trips. With the 5th gen you can sit 4 adults comfortably with skis in the middle.
Also for trips to the gun range with long rifles
If money is not an object, which one would you buy 4Runner of Land Cruiser?
There was a time that both Lexus and Toyota looked pretty damn good. Not sure what happened? Everything is too bulky, cheap looking, and they keep failing the IIHS tests.
Seriously. Their styling is horrid. I love toyota, but I can't see myself in this cartoonish looking crap. And as an off-roader, the more bulky and wide the vehicle, the less places it can fit.
What the heck is he trying to say at 9:00?
He said that the Land Cruiser comes in hybrid only, this can be had with or without the hybrid.
Meh. I was so looking forward to the new gen but it’s too underwhelming. Guess I hand on to my Gen 5.
The redesign could have been as legendary as this lovely car, now it’s looks like a crumpled paper drawing of a reasonable concept car
Love toyota, hate their dealers and mark ups, I'm talking $12K plus for some models,
It’s huge, makes the Land Cruiser look like a toy
So basically the same vehicle as the Tacoma, Land Cruiser and Lexus 550. With minor differences. I think Toyota is splitting market share among itself. The LC is classic and has nice lines, 4Runner is bulbus, lumpy and not a consistent design. Lexus is the giant grill division...style wise I think the Land Cruiser has it.
Let down.
These embargo’s are so funny. A dozen UA-cam channels reviewing the same car at the same location all without being able to talk about price or driving dynamics. What a waste of time.
Doug demuro talked about price I believe
If it’s way overpriced like the 2024 Tacoma, it can stay on the lot. I have owned Toyotas since 2006, but I think Toyota has seriously lost it, expecting people to pay these prices.
No hybrid, thanks
Junkwagon
Wonder how much Toyota spent schlepping all these UA-cam "automotive journalists" to San Diego to do free advertising for the new 4Runner? I see UA-camrs from Boulder, Colorado, Washington, D.C. and Toronto, Canada as well as other places at the reveal. Plane tickets, hotel rooms, meals, and a brown manila envelope expense money depending on how many subscribers the UA-cam channel has. The channels with the most subscribers will get first access when the 4Runner is made available to drive. Ask me how I know?
14:05 - I wonder how many "ecumenical" families will appear in US, where a husband will have this 4Runner and the better half will get a Land Cruiser (or vice versa)?
When you want a cake and eat a cake you just need two cakes, don't ya, Toyota?
Of course, their kid(s) will get a Tacoma SR5, because... we all love triptychs/trinities?
It’s just over-rated, and will come with too high of a price tag just as the new Tacoma did. And it would serve them right if they were to sit in lots like the Tacoma
The rock stance is a stupid Jeep thing. Just let the vehicle stand normally.
4 cylinder, dead on arrival. I read the numbers... Meh, once a few big you tubers have their turbos go out we will get a full redesign from Toyota, I hope this model lasts 4 years. should have been an updated V6, you can do that and still make emissions. I just don't see such a 'fancy' lined car in the back country in Colorado with a roof top tent etc. Screams 'tough' mall princess. This is a fancy fail. I'm not a fan of Kevin's work.
Don’t think that’s gonna happen given the billions Toyota has spent on the R&D of the new engines and considering all of their SUVs now include 4cyl or 4cyl turbos as base (excl Sequioa), seems like it is here to stay. I still think they messed up not just having the Land Cruiser be labeled as the new 4Runner (as most people were expecting they were) and keeping the GX/4runner comparison similar since historically those have always been on the same platform. The LC should’ve stayed discontinued as planned before but seems someone at Toyota wanted to roll the dice with this one. Also the packaging on these SUVs are no good because none of them have flat trunk space when you flatten 3rd or 2nd rows because of this huge battery pack. I wish they made the height of the 4Runner a little taller so we can have some decent interior space and packaging… but I guess we can wait another 15 years 😂 Regardless, the new 4Runner is still awesome and on my list of potential next vehicles 😎
@@gotcoke795I wonder if you can remove the 2nd row and make it more load friendly, otherwise I and probably many people would not even look at this model. It’s just like the sequoia with that stupid 3rd row, these engineers should have been fired for this design.
@@nuclearcrypto7743I agree with you 100%. It's unfathomable to me how they make a " overlander" that you can't sleep in on a flat floor without having to make a platform and raise your bed.
Hey, in other world country, the 4 cylinder gasoline & 4 cylinder turbo diesel toyota engine has good realibility.. in asia has more 4cylinder engine with small displacement start from 1.300cc up to 2.800cc 4 cylinder some of them use for commercial purpose/work horse transportation such as a Taxi, rental car & travel..
Sorry, This thing will sell. Don’t buy it if you don’t like it, But this will do well.
Hmmm, definitely going with a Defender. This is completely underwhelming.
Defender looks better ... but can't go where this will go, so depends on the use application.
@@aligferrari- how so? Defender has better approach, break over, and departure angles, better ground clearance and wading depth, plus more power and superior drive modes.
The problem with the defender is it's fucking unreliable 😢 ...and for people who actually do off roading that's a deal breaker.
@@bonusb2924 All of that is fantastic but you can't put high profile tires on it, it's greatest limitation.
@@tretchroots9803 - I’ve done my share of off roading in a 2 dr JK Rubi Recon and Jeep isn’t any more reliable than the current Defender. I’ve also owned 3 of the current gen 4Runners and while they are built “tight” require significant mods to perform in more extreme conditions. I’m not hacking off the front end or throwing on a super charger either. For 99% of the trails most people will take the Defender and Recon will have no issues. Rock crawling is a different animal.
Cool. Now the 4runner is dead too. This is what happens when you let government have too much power. They're forced to meet unrealistic emission standards that leaves a "4runner" in eternal limp mode. And it's ugly now, looks like they copied a durango. should've just retired the name and called this the new rav4.
I wouldn't even go near the new 2025 4runners. They are no longer true trucks. Not spending my hard earned money on this junk.
Is that a black headliner i seen in the trailhunter, its about time Toyota
Back seat leg space even smaller then previous gen 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 what is engineers smoke when they creating new cars . 4cyl😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. World going crazy. Who is going to bug this shiiiiii
Kevin and his design team could have made the front end look more aggressive. For some reason the front end looks so basic and docile.
