Is this wicked little pony from Prevelo bikes right for your little rider?
This Prevelo bike review will tell you the six things you need to know!
0:19 1. Exceptional First Pedal Bike
1:20 2. Perfect for Adventurous Riders
    2:18 3. Braking System
    2:54 4. Sizing
    3:52 5. Lightweight
    4:14 6. Assembly
The 14 inch bike Prevelo Alpha One has a slightly more aggressive body positioning encouraging the growth of aggressive little riders.
Replacing the coaster brake with the freewheel kit allows the child to back pedal, making the process of learning to pedal much easier.
Kids small and young enough to ride the Alpha One may have a little difficulty learning to pedal forward, so you may need to help them a bit with this skill.
Being designed for the youngest and smallest balance bike graduates, the Alpha One’s bike geometry places the child in a comfortable, mostly upright body position. This position is the most natural for young riders who are just learning the ropes.
However, the Alpha One’s handlebars are lower than some other high end bikes like the woom 2. This makes it perfect for aggressive and adventurous riders because it allows them to lean in for speed, and more easily shift their weight around at the skatepark, the bike park, or the trails.
Those lower handlebars, paired with an all-terrain Kenda tire and a gain ratio of 3.7, make the Alpha One suitable for basically any terrain your tiny rider may want to tackle.
The Prevelo Alpha One features Tektro front and rear v-brakes with small reach brake levers. They offer incredible stopping power!
Because of frustrating and antiquated laws, it does come with a coaster brake, BUT you can buy an optional Freewheel kit to remove the coaster brake after purchase. We highly recommend getting rid of that coaster brake!
    4. Sizing Ideal for Young Balance Bike Graduates
With a seat height range of 15.6″ - 17.5″, the Prevelo Alpha one is one of the smallest 12″/14″ bikes we’ve seen, and is made for the youngest and smallest balance bike graduates. While a 2″ range of seat height adjustability is a bit narrow, the Alpha One boasts a premium quality frame and components, so while it may not last a single child too long, it will surely last through several children.
If your child’s inseam is over 17″, you should consider sizing up to Prevelo’s 16-inch Alpha Two. With a seat height range of 18″ to 25″ it will provide much more room for growth.
Weighing in at only 14.4 pounds, (and about a pound LESS with the freewheel kit installed), the Prevelo Alpha One isn’t the most lightweight 14″ bike on the market, but it’s pretty close! Its light weight makes it super easy for small kids to get it started and to maneuver.
The Prevelo Alpha One comes 95% assembled. All you’re required to do is install the handlebar, seat post and pedals. We assembled it ourselves in a matter of minutes, as an added bonus, as is typical with other high-end bikes, the Prevelo comes with all the tools you’ll need for the minimal assembly.
