@DreamDuoFilms I always look forward to your videos. You guys are freakin' awesome filmmakers. Great video. Do you guys have some sort of gears to do manual focussing on the lens?
Thank you so much, Olivier! :) I actually do have the smallrig focus thingy, but I haven't tested it out yet because I always forget about it :D For now, I'm doing this the hard way - just manually focusing on my subject and praying to the filmmaking gods that my subject will be in focus. Sometimes I love making my life difficult
There is no point in making a video about that, I use the good ol' "Focus and pray that it will be in focus" method :D Having an external monitor helps a lot though
Love your 'non-reviews'! Looks like a specialty lens that would only be occasionally used. And the 1.8x ratio is a hard sell for people already owning the 1.6x set. Question: The BTS shots match super well. Were they shot on Tamrons or you used other SIRUI lenses?
Heya! Thank you so much! :) Yeah, I'm not really sure why they did that. The BTS shots were taken with the 35mm 1.6x lens, I just zoomed in a bit in post to match the 1.8 squeeze factor
Do you find that it's a problem delivering videos to clients that are in a strange aspect ratio? For example, A7S3 and even the 1.6x would be in a non-traditional aspect ratio even for anamorphic. So do you find that you have to scale in to correct that before delivering to paying clients?
I haven't had that many clients who want us to shoot anamorphic, the only client I have at the moment that want us to shoot Anamorphic is Sirui themselves, however I've had stock footage companies reach out to us stating that they are interested in us selling our anamorphic footage on their website. But it's kind of crazy, you know...2 years ago I thought it will take me 5-10 years before I will be able to shoot with anamorphic lenses and create videos about them, but after a blink of an eye, 2 years have passed and we've even made a shortfilm with the anamorphic lenses and it's all thanks to you guys, you all have been the reason why we've been able to progress so quickly in filmmaking and experimented with so many different tools
1. Upon many SIRUI users' requests, SIRUI is now developing PL/EF series 1.5x Anamorphic series which was announced to come out in the next year. 135mm 1.8x is the highest squeeze ratio we have ever made and added to this current 1.6x lineup that our users can experience the most advanced anamorphic characteristics. In the meantime, the Whole set keeps consistent on the color, lens flare, gear position and mount option, etc. 2. There are already 35/50/75/100mm in SIRUI Venus 1.6X series. Compared with 1.6x, the 135mm 1.8x will give a wider field of view to meet the needs on the portrait shooting as well as the smoothly blurred backgrounds with more creamy oval bokeh. 3. Compared to 100mm 1.6X , the 135mm 1.8X provides a variety of options and imagination of creations on portrait shooting. Hope you can understand and you will love it if you try it.
Jaden D said this perfectly via Facebook: “These are all canned responses. You guys are completely avoiding answer the question here… why are we not getting a 1.6x 135 to complete our 1.6x sets? 1.8x completely ruins a 1.6x workflow both on set and in post. You clearly missed the mark here on what an actual lens set is comprised of. This endeavor of yours was a nice idea when the whole full frame Venus lineup started trickling out. And I have the whole set including the 2x adapter…. And I would rather leave out a 135 focal length than add a 1.8x to a 1.6x set. The people who’ve already invested in your 1.6x Venus set will attest that your set is now NOT complete and your sales of this last installment will be proof that you guys missed the mark.”
As I stated in the video, this isn't a review, I don't do all those technical reviews on this channel, I just love to see what can I make with these tools. If you are interested about the blades built in the lens, the weight and what it's made out of, you can visit Sirui's website :)
beautiful lens! i felt the chill via the video hahaha🥶
Gorgeous work my friend!
Omg this is beautiful!

Fantastic video!
Outstanding looks, thank you for posting the review, makes me want one now... camera you shot this on ? Sony A74 or BlackMagic 6K

Epic mate!
I have the 50mm one things I've noticed is the flares are more controlled with this focal length.
i have the normal one the 1.8 which work just fine! but im checking on details with this one.
Oh yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by that as well, never once I experienced an issue of the shot having too much flare in it
thanks bro this video helped me a lot 👍
What settings/ technique do you use while filming with MF? Can you make a video about that?

omg so good
Great video. Not sure why they had to ruin the set with a 1.8x though…
