Guys an embarrassing mistake, I said the stretched out aspect ratio would be 1.66:1 with these lenses on this sensor, that is not true. It's actually 2.66:1, not sure how I made that blunder! Must need some more PHOOOOOOCUS... Here's the math....The stretch of these lenses are 1.5x , then you have the sensor size (same aspect ratio for full frame or super 35) which = 16x9. We times the 1.5 stretch factor to just the horizontal pixels, ( 16 x 1.5 = 24.) So now the new sensor size when de-squeezed, is 24 x 9. Which, when you divide by itself is = 2.66 horizontal pixels for each vertical pixel. Hence, 2.66:1 Thank you to those who pointed out this gaffe!.........Also, I have the free presets downloadable here along with some test footage if you want to mess around with it. makeartnow.sellfy.store/p/laowa-nanomorph-15x-desqueeze-presets-premier-pro-davinci-resolve/

I was just thinking about you this morning... remembering that wedding video you completely saved (a video I need to watch again). Glad to see you again!
Josh, out of curiosity have you tried shooting in DCI-4K mode instead? Shooting in that mode crops down by 1.1x (or 1.2x or something, basically it goes to 1:1 pixels instead of scanning the full 4.2k width) helping to give a “head start” on the crop you need to do for the lenses. Should help to give more resolution in your finals.
Yeah that was mentioned in the video. I have some sample footage if you want to see what the full sensor read out looks like. It's in the description, the free presets has sample footage you can mess with.
Daaaamn, so many questions... Like i see your concrete walls and cant imagine how you solved the audio because i literally rejected a studio cause it had so much reverb/hall and those diy tube lamps are fire. Welcome back man!
I gotta say I do really like the 27mm PL mount Nanomorph I got. I tried the Fujinon wide angle adapter and it transformed this lens. It wider and closer focusing. Minimum focus of about 7" with adapter!! Fantastic combo. Got it off Indiegogo and the flares aren't so bad. I also added a Schneider Hollywood black magic filter.
@@alzibaba Fujinon RCV-82SC .82x Ratio Converter. It does add pin cushion distortion and vignette. I'm guessing the FOV is about a 35mm FF when you crop out the vignette. To me, it gives it more character and I can get extreme close focus while still be able to hit infinity. (Evil Dead II, Ash looking into camera laughing CU shot) I can get that same look when close to the subject.
Awesome, to see you back hope all is going well after the move.. My son Joseph has been on me about getting a few anamorphic lens and I know as soon as he see this I will hear it from him.. Thanks and going to check into these.
Neutral flares are sick. Love the 1.5 anamorphic ratio. Perfect when recording 4:3 and 3:2 with them as they give you 2:1 and 2.25:1 respectively(I hate cinemascope).
Hey! The image you are ending up with is not 1.66:1 . Its more like 2.39:1 or 2.66:1. Which is in fact what most anamorphics give you. Clockwork was not shot with anamorphics and its frame crop is less wide in comparison to your footage. Its cropped left and right from standard 16:9 HD widescreen tv’s. So you would actually have black bars on either side as opposed to top and bottom like yours.
I was all in on these Laowa lenses until I found out about the pin cushioning issue. Sure you can fix it in post, but who wants to do extra work when other lenses don't have this issue. I hope Laowa fixes this problem. If I had to choose between a lens having a pin cushioning issue or barrel distortion issue I'd pick barrel distortion. With barrel distortion it gives off that subtle fish eye effect which looks much more natural than pin cushioning in my opinion.
The amount of work you need to do In post is the same that you would need to do to de-squeeze. In fact you can save both as one power grade, along with your log transformation, and copy and paste to all the clips. It literally could not be easier and the trade off is the size. Very useful tradeoff for aerials and gimbal rigs.
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL Yeah, but wouldn't trimming off the distorted pin cushioned sides of the video/frame kind of defeat the purpose of using an anamorphic lens which adds data to both sides of the frame? Seems rather counterproductive to me. I did some more research on the phenomenon, and apparently front anamorphic lenses create barrel distortion which is an effect that I like versus using a rear anamorphic lens that produces pin cushioning. The tricky part so far has been finding front anamorphic lenses.
I've got the silver flare version of the 50mm and love it! Releasing a video on it soon :) The silver flares are very natural and not too pronounced. Much more subtle. I really dig them. It allows me to use a flare lens filter if I want to go for those more dramatic crazy looking flares, or just stick with the lens as is to go for a more natural look. Best of both worlds!
I have an LG ultra-wide monitor and that has a 1.33x stretch, so 1.33x anamorphic lenses aren't that bad of a choice. What I want to know is can you get the 27mm and zoom in with the FX30 and it's not as sharp? That is a 2.5x crop total, so 27mm turns into 67.5mm, which can cover a lot. Sounds like the Blazar Remus is the best choice for that Hollywood look, even with the optical flaws. I did notice that the optical flaws made it look more colorful Hollywood style and drew in my eyes into the center. It's like buy the Sirui Night Walker vs 7Artisans Vision cine lenses, each has a loot to them.

Yeah I heard that's great too!! I'll see if I can get my hands on a copy. Keep in mind, I'm really mostly pumped about this lens so I can have a set for the drone. It's unheard of flying small anamorphic without some significantly large drone, or some Frankenstein FPV build.
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL I figured that’s part of what you have in mind. They are beautifully compact. I look forward to seeing what you do with them! Maybe they’ll have dialed back the flair by the time they enter production. All the best!
