it's about their dislike about how the industry was treating them...we're so happy we can hardly count...which one's Pink?...you've got to get another album out
As far as that sudden change at the "end" of Have A Cigar-it can be confusing when you listen to one song at a time-in several of the PF albums, the songs all lead from one to the other as the album is really meant to be heard all at one time, as a cohesive journey and theme. When you listen to Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and The Wall-you will hear most of the songs lead directly into the next tune. Animals is also meant to be heard all at once, as it's a concept album-all the songs are related to the theme. It's tough when doing YT reactions, time-wise, but I highly recommend you listen to each of their albums in one sitting, even on your own time. The themes and messages make more sense-plus it's just more enjoyable to hear each masterpiece the way it's meant to be heard.
Also, I'd recommend filming the whole session (album), then you can edit the videos down to individual songs without losing the context of the album as a whole. I've seen other channels do pretty much this.
LoL all of us in 1975 thought our speakers had blown. What happened was they did that to fade to the sound of the tinny ...well awful "transistor" radios we had then. As most of us at the time had mono AM radios and waited for our favourite song to come on and taped it onto cassettes. Along with the *Click* of the recorder starting 5 seconds after the song had already begun and the backoud sounds in our homes making the way onto our "mix tape" You had to have been there.
Others have already spoken of the meaning behind the lyrics…. It’s from the point of view of a record company exec talking to the band, not knowing or even giving a shit about the band members or their point or view. Just wanting to capitalize on them $$$$. What is genius is they brought in an outside person to sing lead vocals (Roy Harper), which makes the “which one’s Pink” lyric even more effective. The record exec doesn’t know or care who is even in the band. A theme that was later explored more in The Wall. Lyrics and vocalists aside, this song has a funky groove for sure
Yes, you pegged it, you heard the Blues inspiration in this song, Pink Floyd was originally a Blues based band, just like virtually every other Rock band to come out of England in the 1960s. These British bands were enamored with American Blues artists from the South, and the music they played had an impact on these bands. You can hear the Blues inspirations in lots of Pink Floyds music, they are a Blues based band. In fact, they took their band name from two old time American Blues guitarists from the mid 1900,...they were,... ... PINK Anderson, (1906-1974), and FLOYD Council, (1906-1976).
The record producer loves the band but doesn't know there is no one name pink. What a classic call of a line of bull. 1975 I bought a $400 quad receiver and when those front channels drop I was PISS then if you keep playint on they bring the front channels back in. the song about their disdain of the corp. music business The lyrics sound like a salesman full of Bull.
Sometimes to understand Pink Floyd songs you need to research their history. Like how they believe the pressure the record company executives put pressure on them and other bands. This possibly is the reason Syd Barret had his mental health issues.
"What was that?" The album reflects on the bands former / founding member Syd. At this point, the music switches from in the room (now) to being played on the radio in the future. With the notion of remembering former glory, it transitions into the track "Wish You Were Here"
BTW if you want a "window" into Roger Waters who wrote all the post Syd lyrics for Pink Floyd. Check out "When the Tigers Broke Free" Rogers father died in WW2 while Roger was just a baby. The German Tiger Tank was one of the most heavily armoured and feared Tanks of WW2. But to me, there's more meaning in the word "Stamp" than any other. The thought of the letter telling his mum her husband was dead was signed with a "rubber stamp".
"by the way which ones Pink?" And "it's a hell of a start..." Just perfectly highlights how little the Music Exec actually knows about the band! So the song is about the cut throat music industry. Something the band felt contributed to the downfall of their friend Syd.
Most of us would tell you to listen to albums entirely to get the full experience but if you can't get the time and space to do that There's no brain damage done by plucking out pink pearls at random and grooving out to them.
😂 It's like reading 1 Chapter from a Book and being asked to write a Thesis on it! 😆 So unfair! Bands of our Era (PF, Rush, Styx, Yes, ELP) were mostly Progressive and would NEVER get radio play today. They would be way too long & not make sense at all. Back in the day, you threw on Tommy (Who) or 2112 (Rush) and cleaned your room. 🤔I swear Concept Albums were the 1st 'Audio Books'. The Rush song 'Cygnus Book 1' ended on 1 Album and Book 2 Hemispheres picked up on the 1st side of their next Album. 😯 We had to wait to find out what happened after the Spaceship entered the Black hole! 😳 It literally came out the other side on the next Album and the Saga continued. 🙄 Seriously, who does that? 🤩 Rush, that's who! 😊🐰
Pink Floyd albums, particularly starting with meddle, then dark side, then wish you were here must be consumed in one sitting in one sitting or you won't have the full impact of each concept album. They can be split into LP sides, but I would do it in one sitting otherwise you won't get the meaning, the impact of the lyrics, the soundscape that they wanted us to experience just gets lost in the ether.
Here’s the thing, these are your reactions, and I think you should do the homework. There are so many reaction channels, the minute someone asks their viewers to look up information that is at the own fingertips, it’s the last video there as I watch . I mean, honestly, how hard is Google ? Yes, there is a meeting in these lyrics, lyrics in rock music are very important you should listen to them as much as you listen to the actual music. I hope you learn and grow from his comments, please take them to hurt your channel will thank you
Sorry pal but has to be one of the easiest to understand Floyd tracks where the lyrics speak for themselves. The end is obviously strange on its own. Maybe easier with lyrics written down for this one maybe . At least you are honest about it , peace
With Floyd everything sings, watch Gilmour when he plays guitar, his mouth is often synchron working... The song is a cynism about the hypocrit narcisstic neo liberal capitalistic music industry ... Waters was a bit more optimistic but with Roy Harper it got a rude claim and also a kinda Edward Snowden whistleblower transparency spirit
This is why you really want to listen to full Floyd albums instead of songs; you’ll just end up confused otherwise. It all makes sense as a full album
it's about their dislike about how the industry was treating them...we're so happy we can hardly count...which one's Pink?...you've got to get another album out
Sorrow live fro Pulse! You are not gonna regret trust me!
The song is about there dealing with record company's
Didn't you know, Pink Floyd is the Blue's on Acid

Amazing and moving song.

...crazy that my A/C is running in Feb. Mid 80s...sorry!

What was that? That was compression.
Btw, you seem to get in Resonance with the more untypical rude Rock stuff, so I assume you will like The Nile Song (Album More or Relics)👍
It is about the phone crap I. The music industry….
