    In Toronto, ON we all be out under. You’re sleeping for 30 mins then done!

    • @TheIrritableVegan

      Wow, I think a lot more people would get checked out if this was the case everywhere. Here in the UK general anaesthetic is not an option on the NHS and the cost of paying privately is out of reach for many. Thankfully in my opinion I don't think it's really necessary to be fully under as it's all over and done with very quickly. I hope all was well with your procedure?

    Thank you very helpful.However I want to opt for sedation that puts me to sleep! My husband had colonoscopy in lancashire 2 years ago and knew nothing about it.I am hoping for the same.It does depend on which medication they give you.The drugs you mentioned Fentanyl and midazolam would not be sufficient for sleep.

    • @TheIrritableVegan
      @TheIrritableVegan  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, I'm also based in Lancashire and was not offered full sedation under the NHS. It wasn't even discussed as an option.
      The drugs and dosage I received were not intended to put me to sleep but to induce conscious sedation and pain relief. I found this to be adequate enough for me.
      I hope all goes well with your procedure and that you're able to have your preferred choice of sedation. 🤞🏻
      P.S. Sorry about the delayed reply, for some reason UA-cam held your comment for review but didn't notify me so I've only just seen it now.

    • @TheIrritableVegan
      @TheIrritableVegan  3 роки тому +1

      Best of luck with it all. I've heard from several sufferers in the US that have told me that the procedure is automatically done under general anaesthetic there? Hopefully if this applies to you then a lot of the most uncomfortable parts will pass you by in a deep sleep. 😴🤞🏻

      @@TheIrritableVegan I’m not aware yet how they sedate you. Would you recommend being completely under?

    • @TheIrritableVegan
      @TheIrritableVegan  3 роки тому

      Here in the UK if the procedure is performed in the NHS we're not given the option of being put under. However, in my opinion I'm glad I opted for the relaxants/light sedation but I didn't feel that a general anaesthetic would have been necessary. Obviously it's a very personal choice depending on the condition of your bowel, sensitivity to pain, anxiety etc. You should also be prepared for the fact that you may not necessarily have an option if their standard procedures require you to be put under. Hopefully you'll have a consultation prior to the procedure?

    So what if the gastroenterologist thinks you have ibs then does a colonoscopy to check if its something more serious but ends up not finding anything? As i may be heading down this road and im pretty nervous about it not gonna lie

    • @TheIrritableVegan
      @TheIrritableVegan  2 роки тому +1

      It can be a really nerve racking process so there's no shame in feeling worried. The difficult thing is that when you're suffering from debilitating symptoms, hearing there's nothing physically wrong isn't always the blessing it's made out to be.
      The best advice I can give is to take things one step at a time. Having the colonoscopy is step one. Then receiving the results, whatever they may be, processing what that means for you then moving forward with treatment or the next test or course of action are all the next steps. Allow time to process at each step, asking for expert help and support as you need it.
      It can be difficult to advocate for yourself when you're going through the ringer so if you can get someone to support you that would be a big help.
      A clear colonoscopy doesn't have to mean the end of your story but you may need to advocate for yourself to get the professional help and answers you deserve.
      Best of luck and I'm always here to listen or chat if you need me. 🤗

      @@TheIrritableVegan thank you that means alot , my symptoms are constantly straining even after releasing stool and waking up every single day with bad stomachs needing to go to the toilet its literally like a alarm clock waking me up and i get real bad gas not to also mention the bloating and its been like that for 7 weeks now but weirdly enough the first 2 weeks i had this it was wayyyy worse like i could not sleep at all no nothing but now its alot more eased but its still bad , i haven't left the house since i had this its really ruined my life mentally and physically , been to see 6 gps for it now done blood tests , stool tests and CT scan and they don't know whats wrong with me except some doctors saying i have symptoms of IBS so currently at the moment i have to do one last stool test and my gp said if that comes back negative they will put me on some buscopan tablets for a week and if that don't work they will refer me to a specialist (gastroenterologist) so its pretty nerve wrecking

      I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through. It does sound as though the doctors are taking you seriously which can be half the battle.
      Getting a firm diagnosis can be a bit of a minefield and unfortunately it may take time. The difficult thing about IBS is that even when the diagnosis comes it can leave you in limbo. So you don't have anything showing up on tests but now what?
      I hope the doctors continue to work hard for you and that they can give you some relief. In addition to medications it might be worth asking for a referral to a dietitian if that's possible for you?
      Keeping everything crossed for you. 🤞🏻

      @@TheIrritableVegan thank you , thing that i find weird though is i eat literally anything junk, fruits, meats and i don't get any symptoms except just going to the toilet straight after eating and bad gas at times but i cant tell if thats just a normal response to eating alot in one go or is it part of the ibs? I kinda hope to god i have something else than ibs because i dont know if i could cope with having this forever its just so debilitating and horrible to have i honestly wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy , doctor's reckon it is IBS but theres alot of other things it could be aswell but theres no test to really rule that out in my case seeming as i been for a CT scan and other tests which all keep coming back negative so it really leaves me with colonoscopy left if the specialist suggests for me to have one. Worst of all is not knowing what has caused it but i was previously on a 6 day protein diet and had a habbit of eating the same thing everyday just to keep it simple and i was on this for a LONG while aswell because i was working out 6 days a week so i needed the protein but i think i probably went overboard, i can remember before these symptoms even started when i was on that 6 day protein diet of mine i was having bad diarrhea after every cheat day i had and this was happening every single time each week so i don't know if this is a thing that has been building up.

    • @TheIrritableVegan

      It sounds like a referral to a dietitian would be a good idea for you if possible. They can often offer more practical advice on the things that you can do day to day to manage your symptoms.

      Sorry you're struggling. IBS sucks big time and I've had it for decades. Throughout that time I've eaten many different diets and yet my IBS has continually persisted. I've learned to recognise that If our gut isn't capable of properly digesting the healthiest, most natural, plant based foods that it's the gut and the gut/brain connection not the veggies that's the issue.
