For Anxious People I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the audiobook because the narrator is GREAT! She does all these different voices for each character and it really does hook you and makes you feel everything! I read this in July, but I wasn’t into it the first few chapters, until I switched to the audiobook and it was a game changer for me. Made the whole experience 10000 times better.
I really enjoyed reading along with the audiobook for Anxious People because it has such Characters it was fun to hear them acted out! Would highly recommend
I got Redemptor literally yesterday, planning to read it soon too!!! I haven't read Anxious People, but I adore Backman's character work and writing - though some criticise his messages being "too in your face" or handhold-y, etc. (Personally, I don't see it that way, but it's something I have seen people say.) Looks like a wonderful autumn TBR, hope you enjoy the books :)
Smiling throughout and thinking "is that also on my shelf...virtual luvvy yep... and on my... yep again physical shelf too", obviously need to get back to leisure ready.
I loved Anxious People! It made me cry both sad and happy tears. The characters are very relatable and lovable, plus the mental health rep is great (imo ofc). This book made Backman my favorite author.
Your autumn will be amazing with all those books! Why is the cover of "Redemptor" so awesome? XD Also Fredrik Backman's books are so good but boy do they hit you in the feels. I hope you'll enjoy "Anxious People".
Not the cute and cozy fit for this video, we love to see it! Today was the first day of school and I had a panic attack...so let's just say this was a well-timed video. Thanks for this, love ya.
I LOVED anxious people. That synopsis is fair…but also not enough for how deep the book is. Definitely a character study, so if that’s not your thing, you may not enjoy it. The prose is beautiful, definitely prose over plot in this one. I have loved everything I’ve read by Backman, but this may be my favorite!
Loved Redemptor! In the same boat regarding Jade Legacy. I will try to reread the first two books, but who knows. Definitely intrigued by Black Joy and Bestiary.
i absolutely LOVE backman’s backlist, especially beartown, and i’ve been so scared to read anxious people because of the incredibly mixed reviews… i don’t know if that’s his best work to start off with, but i hope you enjoy it! and even if you don’t, or it ends up just being ok, please please give his other books a shot, he’s such a good writer. (also hope you like exciting times! i’ve heard good things)
happy autumn! your reaction to The Duke Who Didn’t was so relatable, it made me laugh. 💗💜💙 i can’t wait for all of the spooky and atmospheric reads in the coming months!!
the duke who didn't is a fun time and they are both very honest with each other which i appreciated, so i'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it! how to kill your family, cameron battle and the hidden kingdoms and the upper world sound so good! and agh im ready and not ready for jade legacy! :D happy reading!
I really liked Anxious People, but I think some of his earlier books are a better introduction if you're new to the author. He has got a lot of gems in his backlist, good luck Joel
@@sakinaalia1067 I think it depends on what you find yourself drawn to. If you like single pov stories, A man called Ove is a stellar starting point, while if you like following multiple characters and storylines, I'd suggest Beartown. Best of luck☺️
Cameron Battle sounds fantastic, more Black boys in Middle Grade please. Also really looking forward to Redemptor. I do wish there was a Dutch version of Black Joy, feels like something I and others really need.
I haven’t read middle grade since I was a teenager, but that Cameron battles book has a beautiful cover and maybe I’ll dip into some middle grade again for that book
I have loved every Fredrik Backman I have read, however I had to listen to them as I felt the text itself was dense. I hope you like Anxious People and that you decide to pick up some of his other books. You could include it in a translated book video.
Hi, love your channel. I wanted to know if the Late Night Club is ever going to make a review about "Call Me By Your Name" by Andre Aciman. Keep up the great work. :)
That Bestiary cover is S T U N N I N G. And I DNFed Exciting Times after no more than 30 pages lol. Hope you have a better time with it than I did. I couldn't stand the narrator; she was so full of herself in a pedantic way that grated on me, eek.
Ok. Look. I am not rich. I'm just a librarian. You need to stop make me want to read all of these books! Now I need them in my life, and I can't read them all :'( (But please, keep going, because I love the way you talk about books)
"The second reason why I picked this book up: Jack Edwards has read it." - Me justifying the three books I bought in two days.
I LOVE how you always credit the artist(s) when you enjoy a cover, you’re the only person on booktube I know who does that!
Literally the reason I became a subscriber.
Joel's energy never fails to make me feel safe amd cosy but at the same time so excited to read and see your reactions to books!!
Heheh thank you so much!! 🥺
There are not many middle grade fiction with black boy protagonists so we are VERY excited to see this book, Cameron Battle and the Hidden Kingdoms!
Yay!! Thank you!

omg wait they act them out?! must. get. audiobook.
The UK wants to be able to join book of the month!
This video is making me feel good about “saving” Anna Karenina and the Hobbit/LOTR books for Autumn because I just wasn’t feeling them in the summer😂
Same about Anna Karenina!!!!
So nice how you admire and recognise the art work from the cover artists!
Okay I need to know what the book is with the stenciled edges sitting above Circe!!
The Trans-Gender Issue and Beastiary sound so so good!
autumnal thumbnail popped off bestie x
thanks bestie hehe
Cool 😎👍🏾 Happy Bookish Tuesday Friends

Oh my goshhhh, I read Redemptor the SECOND it came out and it's SO 👏 GOOD 👏
I loved Anxious People! It made me cry both sad and happy tears. The characters are very relatable and lovable, plus the mental health rep is great (imo ofc). This book made Backman my favorite author.
I read anxious people last year and really enjoyed it! Def cried tho but yeah I always cry, so.... also the AUTUMNAL COLOURS
If you like Fredrik Backman as a writer, read the Beartown - trilogy (the third book releases in early 2022 )
Many of these books I had not heard of but now am excited to read. Thank you for supporting us trans people
I was just looking for cozy Fall reads, xx, ty !
ofc!!

Heheh thank you so much, bestie! I'm sorry to hear that you had a panic attack, but I hope you're doing much better now!

Please try the kingdom keepers! It’s a middle grade series that takes place in Disneyland
Soooo curious about what you'll think about anxious people. I hated it so much 💀. I finished it out of pure spite haha
I’m a simple girl
I see a notification from Joel and I click
we love to see it
I loooved Anxious People!! It's definitely an emotional roller coaster though, so be prepared 💛
"My bisexuality is coming out right now" that's such a big mood
We need to hunt down both models for his sanity.
Yes Redemptor. Loved it, so fingers crossed you love it too.
You can do it, Joel!
Loved Redemptor! In the same boat regarding Jade Legacy. I will try to reread the first two books, but who knows.
Definitely intrigued by Black Joy and Bestiary.
Literally who knows if we'll get around to it!
Hi Joel. Love the way you introduce the books and the authors. Will you be doing a review of these books?

SO JEALOUS of you getting that jade legacy arc!!
I really like your comments on cover/ jacket designs and I would love to see a whole video about your (least) favorite designs :)
I’ve been putting off Exciting Times all year! I think autumn is going to be when it’s read for me too
I just wanna say I love the colors on your bookshelf!

you are gonna LOVE jade legacy, fonda really oudid herself 😭
Bestiary looks and sounds AMAZING. and the fact that it’s a short read is an extra plus. I’m having trouble finishing anything too long these days😅
Suffering is where it’s at ! Great TBR !
Black Joy is fantastic!!!
This was amazing
i haven't now that you've mentioned it! i'm adding it to my tbr
….the way I DNF’d Anxious People so hard

I'm so looking forward to the vlogs for this
It weird that everyone is in a romance mood reading that how I been feeling.
i think it's because of the seasonal change, autumn always feels more romantic to me

Hi friends, i recommend a must read (secrets of sanatan dharma) book available on Amazon & kindle
Usually when people tell me to drink water it’s a pet peeve but when Joel says it I’m already unscrewing my water bottle
how do you get your thumbnails sooo bright? omg. it's a rhetorical question. i'm just amazed by your lighting.
Love all of these, they all look so interesting
Good luck with your reading!!
I'm willing to take a book donation
So many exciting reads!
Great energy and great books!

I finished reading Jade Legacy last month.. all I can say is PAIN!
I haaaate that book of the month only ships to the us :(
As another bisexual I could not agree more about that cover hehehe 😆
Wooooow that Bestiary cover
I don't think your babies will be okay in Jade.
