Grown is definitely the most tense I've ever been while reading. I finished it in one sitting, because I just couldn't feel at peace until the story had ended. It's definitely a very well written book.
I thought it was really chaotic and I think it could've been done a lot better. I also read it in one sitting, it definitely sucks you in. But not sure the writing was actually that great in hindsight 🤷🏻♀️
this video made me feel really safe! like his channel is always a safe place but this video specifically soothed me and brought a lot of joy on a bad monday :)
HOW HAVE I JUST FOUND YOUR CHANNEL !! your description of novellas sum up my feelings completely, getting to experience a whole world and story in one afternoon is such a special vibe 🙌 + hope your dissertation writing goes well!
I really appreciate how you include who designed the cover! I always hear people talking about how beautiful covers are, but I've never heard someone else shout out the artist. :)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I like that you did a TBR because I now have added Grow, White Tears, Brown Scars, and How to Argue with a Racist to my want to read list! Thank you! This month I've read The Wife Upstairs. I'm currently reading The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, I'm Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness, Love & Math, and Arctic Fury.
I'm very much into organisation, but I also did a rainbow bookshelf and it's the best! I can actually find everything easy. I do have series together apart, so that might be an idea
Luster was such an interesting read! I went in with almost zero knowledge about it and inhaled it in 24 hours. Really looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
I haven't read Grown yet, but I am hoping to some time this year. My February TBR is Ring Shout by P. Djeli Clark (I finished it on Saturday, definitely check this book it), Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse, The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson, and The Lesson by Cadwell Turnbull. I have currently started The Lesson and Black Sun, both interesting beginnings. Good luck with your TBR! 😊❤️❤️❤️
i clicked on this video so fast. also it's different to see a different set up since i'm so used to seeing the old set up. i'm excited to see what the final set up tho!
I don’t do TBR’s I loved the idea of them, I’m a contrary fairy though and as soon as I give myself a list I fight against it. Ha. Spooky, I spent last week reading only yellow books. Girl, Woman, Other is amazing, amazing, amazing. I have Grown on my TBR so I’m hoping to join in. I thought Allegedly was brilliant. I’ve not heard of Adam Rutherford, I shall check him, the podcast and the book out.
good luck on your dissertation joel i'm sure you'll absolutely smash it 🎉 i always want rainbow shelves but then my mind is like... but how will you find authors 😅 girl, woman, other was really good and written so well but i found it quite slow in places, but at the same time it was necessary imo!! i've heard so many good things about luster recently, i wanna pick it up soon! ✨ white tears brown scars sounds really interesting i definitely want to pick it up to educate myself more!!
EXACTLY THAT WITH THE RAINBOW SHELVES!! But then I guess it depends on how I remember books 😂I'm really excited for this month though and I hope your reading month goes well too!
Congrats on 50k! 🎉🎉🎉 I'm finally going to read the poppy war trilogy (just started the 1st one), running with lions, don't love me in english, and jade war
i don‘t know if anybody has already mentioned this but luster is set in america (new york and new jersey i think!). just a heads-up, it’s brilliant nonetheless :)
I´m currently reading the Stars and the Blackness Between them and I plan to read Girl, Woman, Other afterwards. I´m so glad that I am finally able to read so many books featuring main characters who actually look like me.
I'm actually going to be reading The Shining for the first time - definitely will reference your guys' liveshow after I'm done, as I'm sure I"ll have lots to process! Hopefully I can be on the same schedule as you all next month!!
I just read the Binti trilogy and Who Fears Death and now I REALLY want to read Remote Control and Akata Witch, I think Nnedi Okorafor is a new favorite author for me!
I was just talking with someone recently about how books are one of the only mediums (in the U.S. anyways) which aren’t monitored for content. So a 10 year old can go and buy whatever book they want regardless of reading level, content etc. but that same 10 year old cannot go see a PG13 movie without an adult or buy an explicit movie or music at a store. I’m not a parent but I can imagine that having content warnings is very helpful to parents and teachers so you aren’t blindly handing something too mature to a child or forced to pre-read everything.
Just read Luster and loved so much about It, I hadn't read some thing like it before. Want to re-read in in the furture and want to read what the author writes next.
I'm hoping to read the 2nd and 3rd book of the darker shades of magic series, the night circus by Erin Morgenstern and the gilded ones by Namina forna. I don't think I'll finish them all this month as my current read is taking forever to get through.
YES CONTENT WARNINGS SHOULD BE THE NORM
Agree 😁✌🏽
YES YES YES
Definitely
Agree
Can we just talk about how wonderfully detailed and organized the description box is...bravo!
Grown is definitely the most tense I've ever been while reading. I finished it in one sitting, because I just couldn't feel at peace until the story had ended. It's definitely a very well written book.
Oh wow, I'll definitely carve out a day to read it then!
I thought it was really chaotic and I think it could've been done a lot better. I also read it in one sitting, it definitely sucks you in. But not sure the writing was actually that great in hindsight 🤷🏻♀️
I finished it in one day too! It was so thrilling
Love that you acknowledge the cover designers! Makes my graphic designer heart happy + they work so hard!
Love the rainbow bookshelf idea! 💕Thanks for providing great new titles for the reading list ☺️
this video made me feel really safe! like his channel is always a safe place but this video specifically soothed me and brought a lot of joy on a bad monday :)

Tangential to the primary content of the video, but I’m so excited to hear you shouting out the cover & book designers!
Yess! "Woman, Girl, Other" is so good
I really appreciate how you include who designed the cover! I always hear people talking about how beautiful covers are, but I've never heard someone else shout out the artist. :)

So excited to read Grown! I teach high school and I totally agree about young adult fiction being a space for teens to grapple with hard topics.
i would be a big big fan of video essays!!!!
I plan to finally read The Black Veins this month.
Ooo, Luster is giving Queenie vibes and The Coldest Winter Ever vibes, but adult.
Loving Luster so far!

I think a nonfiction reading vlog would be really interesting, even if it takes place on a longer time frame than most of your reading vlogs.
I'm so here for some theory videos!!

For this month I found some people on the late night bookclub who are buddy reading the Brown Sister serie with me (:
I'm hoping to read the 2nd and 3rd book of the darker shades of magic series, the night circus by Erin Morgenstern and the gilded ones by Namina forna. I don't think I'll finish them all this month as my current read is taking forever to get through.
