GORILLAS at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida

Since the Animal Kingdom opened in 1998, Gino a western lowland gorilla has been with the park - just recently celebrating his 41st birthday. Interaction between silverbacks is interesting to watch. There may be a territorial issue or show of dominance as one gorilla leaves the area when another enters his space, keeping careful watch as he departs. Gorillas are mainly herbivores, eating mostly bamboo, fruit, and leafy plants. Generally peaceful and docile, gorillas only become aggressive towards humans when they feel threatened.
