I have a PSOne the small revision of the PlayStation, and the Slimline PS2 model number SCPH-79001 which of course it is NTSC U/C, U/C is the United States and Canada.
One Chip stealth + ntsc boot fix is pretty much the best modchip for a SCPH-102, but you probably know this now. I have the SCPH-1002 (old first motherboard), there's 2 revisions of the PAL SCPH-1002, with slightly different board layout, but other than that I believe there's no difference between them. I also have a SCPH-102, so I have the first and last model PlayStation's :-) Great video btw 👍
I've installed a psone drive to replace my dead 1001 laser. I only had to do a tiny cut on the top left of the drive to fit. Works perfectly and it only took 5 seconds.
I had multiple PSone’s, the video output died on one and the rumble (vibration) went on another. Just cleaned and got a new laser for my dad’s old SCPH-5501 which sat for like 20 years, and it works great! I would say load times are a tad slower than the slim, but I was shocked how well it runs after sitting for so long. Time to play some FF8!
NOTE: The SCPH-5552 has a similar UI to the PSone. I have 3 PS1s an SCPH-5552, an SCPH-7502, and an SCPH-9002. The 5552 and 7502 I brought from my local thrift store and the 9002 I brought brand new in 1999.
I have a SCPH-1001 which I just picked up as a second console to my SCPH-7501 (my original childhood console). What is the model of laser assembly you bought to replace in your SCPH-1002? I'd like to do the same in mine since I plan on opening it up and giving it a good clean anyway.
Great vid, another quirk of some SCPH-1002 consoles and their overseas versions is that earlier units used an older GPU design that has less precise shading and somewhat slower transparency processing. The starting area of Tomb Raider 1 is a good place to check - if the snow has visible banding you have the older GPU hardware.
What’s the story of this incredible metal spindle? it really amazes me every time I see it. I think these spindles came only with European PlayStations especially the launch editions.
I don’t know if anyone knows what’s the issue, I have a 5502 PS1 which is still working but when I try to boot up a game, it goes de “PS” screen and then freezes and the text under “PlayStation” is all messed up and unreadable. Is it the optical drive ?
@@HollowRick Different PS1 models are made of different components. This is why PS1 SCPH-100x is unreliable (Not so good PSU and laser units) which also results in older models having longer load times (Some like 1 or 2 seconds) As later revisions have better quality laser units the load times really are cut down
Love your channel, love how in depth you go on the PlayStation!
got heaps of these collecting dust, your video inspired me to revisit the PS1, thanks
I still have my original PlayStation 1 console SCPH-7501 with both DualShock controllers.
She’s still a beautiful sight to behold: gray, futuristic, and premium.
I have the psone slim and the ps1 phat scph 9002. Trying to collect all the models but these are the models I have so far
the best is the psone slim

My PS2 slim model was SCPH-70012, which has a best load times.

You didn’t need to cut the top. You could have taken the grey cover off and put the black cover on from the original laser.

I had 7501, it was a trusty unit.
Same here, I believe that this version can last forever.

In my case that Metal Spindle is loose and causes me issues.

Could well be the laser is basically on its last legs.
brilliant video
Thanks man
I'm guessing the only real diff between the 5500 and 5550 series is the power and open buttons. I have a 5501 and it has the text on the buttons.
Nice video Dave.
I personally prefer the 9000 revisions of the PS1 because the load times are quicker than other models.
Is that a fact?
@@princegroove no it's bullshit haha all ps1 systems load the same if you want faster load times you want a playstation 2

Which one should I buy then? 5502,7002,9002?
5502 and 7002 would both be fine if you wanted to use a Cheat Device. If not 9002.
@@DaveDoc1984 so the 9002 is the best options if I want to play original cd’s?
@@filipmartin2963 9002 is very reliable.
@@DaveDoc1984 great thanks :)
