    A video I made showing the qualities of a magnetic liquid called ferrofluid. The ferrofluid mimics the magnetic field created from a magnet. When the liquid comes in contact with the magnetic field of the magnet it spikes up and lines its self with the filed.

    Hi Mist8ke, rad video! I was wondering what you did to make the ferrofluid stay in a liquid "ball" when not exposed to the magnet in the last demonstration. Is it the ferrofluid makeup, or is it suspended in a solution other than h2o? or something else? Would really love to replicate this. Many thanks!

    Is there a way to manipulate the liquid to show the entire magnetic field? Maybe in a oil or water soluble solution? If the specific density of a clear fluid were close enough to the ferrofluid, maybe? Then you could begin experimenting with different shaped magnets, multiple magnetic sources, etc.

    Could an engine use magnets to move the pistons instead of combustible gas? Just like a distributor cap, but instead of sparks it controls the magnetic field to each piston. Sort of like an on/off switch as it rotates the polarity to each head, thus powering the vehicle. I understand that the push and pull would have to be extreme and fast but if you put a magnetic field on top and bottom of each piston and rotate which one is on or off. Then the pedal would control the magnetic power.

    In the case of the ferrofluid with the soap bubbles, is the solvent in the ferrofluid hydrophilic or hydrophobic?

    • @LegalSkateboarding
      @LegalSkateboarding 8 років тому +1

      +Alexander Nahmad-Rohen I've heard that either water based or oil based solvents can be used to create a lower molarity of the substance. So possibly both!

    • @alexnahmad-rohen6316
      @alexnahmad-rohen6316 8 років тому

      +Legal Skateboarding OK, thanks for answering! :)

    • @DarknessChampion
      @DarknessChampion 8 років тому +3

      +Alexander Nahmad-Rohen Assuming it is the same mixture of ferrofluid, it would be hydrophobic based off the fact that it does not mix with water (as shown when the ferrofluid is dancing around, congealed within the water at 1:06).

    • @alexnahmad-rohen6316
      @alexnahmad-rohen6316 8 років тому

      +DarknessChampion Of course, but I didn't want to make assumptions, which is why I asked. ;) Thanks for answering, though; given Mist8k's silence in the matter, that assumption will have to do.

    Just as an electric field is described by drawing the electric lines of force, in the same way, a magnetic field is described by drawing the magnetic lines of force. When a small north magnetic pole is placed in the magnetic field created by a magnet, it will experience a force. And if the North Pole is free, it will move under the influence of magnetic field. The path traced by a North magnetic pole free to move under the influence of a magnetic field is called a magnetic line of force. In other words, the magnetic lines of force are the lines drawn in a magnetic field along which a north magnetic pole would move.
