    Right now, Tommy Fleetwood has one of the hottest swings on the PGA Tour. In this video I’m showing you specifically what he does with his right hip in his golf swing and how it lends to rotation. I’m also giving you some feels and checkpoints to help you incorporate the same moves into your own swing.

    Awsome! I have been waiting for you to show us his swing. He's awesome! Thank you for doing that!
    It would be awesome to see Rory next. He's strong but not a big tall guy like some of the other long hitters on tour so it would be cool to see what he is doing to keep up.

    Don’t know if you remember my question from yesterday. Spinning hips and throwing arms, hooks and pulls.... pre shot routine.
    Went down range and tried the drill, left arm tight on my left booby. Worked well! Very well. The range isn’t however, always conducive to knowing the reality of where my swing is at.
    This vid popped into my head when I got back. I know it’s probably impossible impossible to say, as you just don’t have any empirical or factual data/numbers to go on, but for a guy who hits left, how important is it with the driver, to move this way. Spinning my hip is definitely a catalyst for drives hooking and pulling.
    Is there something Tommy would do differently with driver? Should my pre shot routine be a little more concentrated on a hip movement perhaps?
    Hope this all makes sense!?!

    Excellent analysis. For your own swing what powers the quickness in your body pivot? Shift and rotation. Left or right side or both. What explosive movements or exercises would you train with . Medicine ball, Cable column? Thank You

    Thanks Eric, nice swing and a nice guy is our Tommy. Not a big fella but still gets it out there. One observation, I noticed from your previous tutorials that all good strikers of a golf ball have their trail arm folded up to impact point. So I have been focusing on keeping my right arm folded during the downswing which seems to engender better swing dynamics through the hitting area. Possibly ensuring a later hit, or coming more from the inside or both. Any thoughts on this?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 роки тому

      Hey Ray!
      Yup...I like it...
      Shorter trail arm and trail wrist motivates the body to turn and bend correctly.
      That is...get closer to the ground and open up!

    2:20 On the backswing, he has very little backward movement of his cg - so he's always ready to be tipped into the forward cg position. Why does he seem to get so forward? All his forward cg movement is added to his center address position vs having 1-3" of backswing backward cg movement that would need to be recovered before forward movement. Look at the dangling neck head-back movement through impact- that's the unique move that I (my old neck) don't care to emulate, but it's critical to his swing plane consistency. He has the same low-back head/right-toe relationship each time and can visually check for it at impact.

    Hey Eric, could you describe how the right hip moves in space in relation to the ball line? In the backswing rotation moves it away from the ball line (back), but where does it move relative to the ball line in the downswing?

    • @paddymckibbin3957
      @paddymckibbin3957 5 років тому +1

      Hi John Pallini at address both hips are on a line which is parallel to the ball line to target, imagine these two lines as train tracks. As you say on backswing the right hip moves away (inside) from the ball line and away (inside) of the parallel line. On downswing the right hip moves both towards the target and back onto the parallel line at the same time. By impact the right hip has continued inside of the parallel line and more towards the ball line, after impact the right hip continues to move towards the target and more towards the ball line at the same time until eventually both hips are in a straight line perpendicular to the ball to target line, and the right hip is probably close to or on the ball to target line, but as Eric explains much further forward than where it started from.

    A couple observations: First, the small space from his right hip starting position to the top of his backswing isn't a move left as much as a result of rotating his right hip back, loading up his right side, but NOT swaying to the outside of his right foot and keeping his weight on the inside of his right foot. Then, at impact, his hips have already cleared (rotated) BEFORE impact. So it's not so much an intentional move posting up over the left foot, but that posting up is a result of this rotation which already finished by impact. Lastly, you put a circle on his head at first, but look how much his head drops down on the downswing. Wow! 😳

      Thanks, Eric! I have been studying everything I can find on hip rotation. IMHO I think this is the “magic move” in the golf swing, leads to keeping head behind the ball, weight shift, clearing the hips, posting up on the left leg AND finishing in balance. I had right hip replacement surgery 7 weeks ago, and my surgeon said I was really bad and probably unable to make this (hip rotation) move. Thus I could only slide left and my head got in front of the ball 😩
      I’m working hard on ingraining hip rotation before impact into my swing, but my old swing keeps getting in the way. Any and all advice on leading with the lower body is greatly appreciated and keep these videos coming. 👍🏻

      @paddymckibbin3957 5 років тому +2

      Hi Mike Perski a swing thought I like is imagine two ropes stretched out behind you at address. One rope is attached to your right pants pocket, the other attached to your left pants pocket. On the backswing someone standing behind you pulls on the rope attached to your right pocket pulling the right hip back. On the downswing they pull on the other rope pulling your left hip back and simultaneously the left hip moves slightly towards target (weight shift to target) and the right hip then moves towards the target also until both hips are perpendicular to the ball to target line, and your whole body faces towards the target. Try this.

    Hi Eric thanks for the analysis 👌 how does Tommy hit such a nice draw when it looks like he’s trying to hold the face open through out the swing?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Dustin! He is still able to get the face slightly closed to the path mostly from a strong grip....
      the stronger the grip typically the more "passive" the release pattern
      So long as his path still gets to the right (which he does with a lot of right side bend) he's good to go for draw

    That's some hip movement. From this angle it looks like his shoulders at impact are basically parallel to the target line. Is that an optical illusion or is it actually the case? I was under the impression the aim is to get the shoulders open (to some extent) at impact.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  5 років тому

      Hey John-yes...shoulders as measured open...more about getting ribcage open. Shoulder protract and retract....so where they appear in 2D and where they are actually are 2 different things

    Hey Eric! I have a bit of rotational limitation in my knee or leg it seems, I can't seem to get to both hips same level unless I flare out my front foot. However this then limits a bit of my rotation back.
    Would you suggest I flare the lead foot to get even hips at follow through or keep it straighter so I ensure I get 90* shoulders on the back swing? I have to video after watching this to see if I can do both, but it feels super tight in my left knee when I try to get both hips level

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  3 роки тому

      I would suggest both feet flared out slightly to start. If 12 o'clock is straight forward I would put left foot at 11 and right at 1.
      I would work with someone to improve your hip mobility if needed. I do 20 minutes of hip and back mobility every single day.
