  • In this video I will discuss some of the pros and cons on melee, post combat update. Just kind of my opinions on the combat style in its current state. I think melee has a lot of room for small improvements but overall it seems pretty solid.

    Melee have an equivalent of ammo switch in the form of jaws and vest hood. Melee have 2 eof switches 1 less than ranged in the form of ezk and dclaws. Melee isnt that far off from how sweaty ranged is. And if you add zerk damage intake and melee distance then melee can be harder to use than ranged

    d2h in eof is amazing at ed1 runs, makes it so much faster and smoother to clear out mobs

    realistically, melee should be the highest damage being that it is now lowest survival ANDDDD range limited. necro should be lowest by simplicity and survivability. really doesn't make sense that melee is middle of the back with major drawbacks.

      well tecnicly all you need is a weapon and a way to survive....in no way is bis 2styles needed to do pvm...unless your a wierd hybrid world record chanser and speedrunner...you can boss in pretty measly gear and cheap stuff...ofc you wont get the same result in 50m in gear as 6bill but your comment makes no sence......10m in necro gear and you can do every boss and get reaper crew(except from completly necro imune bosses like assencion bosses and dks and matriarchs but ye...some warpriest and the weapon from wildy event that cost 1m and are t87 can do that for you)

    do you have a suggestiosn for a revo bar for just basics? not including bleeds. was going to manually cast thresh & ultimates as well as msa switch then manually cast bleeds

      Idk how good this is because I usually go all or nothing with revo but a decent basic bar is prob: Sever > Havoc > Dismem > Gfury > Deci or something like that, maybe play with order a little

    Thank you so much for the melee love. Ive been a melee main almost my entire 10 years in rs3. You did get some info wrong. Ill try and find the time at some point to come back or dm you better more accurate details.

    I think the merge solution is a short sighted one. I used to say the same thing. I think primarily the issue is that scourge and jaws were added very hastily to try to yank melee into viability. It didn't work... So now we have these really powerful items, mws, jaws, and scourge that all have strong passives, but tier wise they're being left behind yet they maintain relevance because they're so strong. If they merge them, all they do is kick this issue down the road. When we get t99 or t100 items, now what? Do we keep merging gear? They might be able to design them so that it invalidates these combined items, but i have little faith in that route. I had suggested a simialr route, make a pocket item out of jaws and scourge that has their affects and let it hold armor spikes. I dont think its the best solution, but it isnt power crept out right away, and it's simple enough to implement. If they dont like that it exists, they can release a better pocket item down the road to invalidate it.
    Physical ezk should have a passive that makes it worth using. Even if its not bleed related, its fine to eof 1 and use another. Seems shitty, but is what it is. It also should be halberd range. Its huge. They could always play with the zerker necklace and the obsidian boost too to make it worth the time.
    Meteor is disappointing for sure. We need greater meteor tbh. Something like it lands and creates a zone that restores 10% Adrenaline every 3s for 15s while in it. Maybe even does periodic damage. Idk, thats just off the top of the head. Theres tons of ways to make it happen. Ranged and magic use their ammo to reduce the cost, melee doesnt have ammo, so they need to find another route.
    And jesus christ... the hitcap already being a factor is crazy... just engine update the hitcap to like 100k, then raise it to 40k and try it for s bit. If its not enough, go to 50k. Etc. Just do it...
    A few small notes, like i almost didnt say them because it doesnt matter, but it might be worth knowing? Zgs is 25% boosted damage. I think they should buff it to 50%, but its 25% atm. Zerk increases damage taken by 50%, not doubled. I think between being md, vestments being wet bags for armor, and zerk, you probably take about double damage in the end over something like ranged. But ranged used split soul so ths damage that sticks is hard to tell which tskes more effective damage in the end.
    Overall great video and hits on a lot of relevant points with melee. I use melee about 80% of the time and its hella fun, but definitely has issues. I dont mind the glass cannon nature, being md, and all that, if therew a good reason to accept thsoe downsides. Imo, ranged seems more complex and harder to execute, but melee has the aforementioned downsides so in the end i think they should be fairly comparable. Just my opinion on it.

      @@shadowrealms2676 like the ring of vigor? Idk about that. There are a few places you don't want it active. Making it an ammo slot would be effectively making it passive.

      At this rate t99s are 50 years away, so any solution to make current melee less excessive is better than nothing... More seriously tho, merging is just a simple and effective solution but many other things could work. You say pocket item but I think you mean ammo item? And if that's what you mean, that sounds a little better than merging. The problem is there's like 4 different slots that are competing (helm, MH, 2H, gloves). I'm just personally not a fan of having multiple pieces of gear competing for the same slot and being similar in necessity to use. Or 1 ability switches, like we do with the passage gloves on poisonable bosses... Something needs to be done lol
      I'd rather see Gmeteor (and nami+cend) be used to solve the crit buff issue not reduce adren costs. Melee does have ammo in the armor spikes and I say in the vid that I'd like to see more variety in spikes. I wouldn't mind a deathspore-like spike for adren reducts.
      And your last point, I find melee and ranged are about the same at the highest levels of execution, maybe ever so slightly skewed toward ranged bc wen and bolg micro but idk melee has an OBSCENE amount of switching if you wanna get the most out of it and you're switching stuff for almost every ability

      Yeah, I meant ammo slot... I think this would take about the same amount of time to develop as any kind of merger solution and it avoids delaying the same problem for later. Just add some mob/boss that drops an item or add the item to some drop table and you can use it to merg jaws and scourge in the ammo slot. It can hold spikes. I wish they'd just design things better tbh, even rework scourge and shit, but there's no time budget for that. It's not like merging them wouldn't solve the problem with all the competing gear, it's just the worst practical solution imo. If on Monday they announced we could go the bench and do this, it would be better than the current state. Anything they can do is fine with me.
      They could add armor spikes with effects that reduced the cost of stuff too. That's also fine with me. Honestly, anything because the only viable crit options for melee are off style. You either meteor and grico to rebuild or you tsunami. You can just camp melee without those, but you're just objectively sacrificing a better option to do so.
      I think for the 26s melee is zerked it can do similar or a bit more damage than ranged, but it's the in between period whee melee cliff dives. Not as hard as magic, but still. And I'm not executing at the highest level at all. I'm decent, but im not out to brag. You're much better than i am, so if im wrong and melee really can do the work, then I'll gladly accept that for what it is. My references are kinda based on what I see other players do at the tip top. I've seen 70s Raksha solos camping ranged, and I've only seen maybe 90s solos with melee. Without using a calculator, that's what, ~25% more damage? That's fairly significant. Maybe the melee players weren't as good? And if they don't touch anything, I'll continue to melee, and I'll be happy doing so. I just think there's broader design goals they could probably aim for with some changes aince they're already rebuilding a lot.
      Imo, if leng spec also doubled the chance to gain ice stacks for like 15-20s this helps the lengs broaden the gap from scourge. Specs do a bit more, just overall helps. It's kinda inconsistent atm and sometimes you go to spec and see there's no stacks at all which feels like shit. Or the lazy solution is to make the mh double the chance to proc and then make each stack do less.
      I mentioned the hitcap. The only reason it's 30k is because the engine is coded to cap at 32.7k? I think? Red zammy can be hit for 32.5k and I believe they just coded it a hair shy of the engine cap. Engine updates are more rare, but on the next they just need to crank it up. It's current 2^15 whatever that is, so I'm unsure what it takes to move it to 2^16 but that's already ~65k which is a lot better. They can then code the cap to anything under that new one. Id just start at 40k, but who knows where it should be, maybe 65k. But the point is that getting the hitcap off melees neck .... again... would already be a big help. Like, sure, I can now roar an OP in zerk and do 2 hits for 65k, but even this I doubt fully closes the gap.
      Then move zgs to 50% over 25% and see if it helps. I use zgs a lot when the bleeds aren't practical, and it feels really meh.

      @@jlayman89I have factual proof merging works, osrs. It gives the old content a boost and it also makes the older t92 items still worth gp, so the power creep isnt so insane you quit and come back 5 months later and your 10b bank is 3b. Why should we allow older content to die off? Makes no sense, and EOFs should be able to be upgrade to allow multiple specs some players can’t afford 20 EOFs, the game says it wants to cater to the entire player base yet time after time they continue to reward the people who held on to paper colored hats, so either your lucky or you didn’t play then. 😂

    !! Also I think you're really underrating the scourge with abyssal spikes vs any longer fight as an initial stack builder beacuse you reap the benefits the entire rest of the fight, and your offhand leng will still be prepping spec stacks. Also the d2h eof is for elite dungeon clearing and shattered worlds as well as a really fun way to get giga nukes on slayer tasks lol

    My friend has BIS melee and he was so squishy at 300-500 zammy it was hard to worry about him getting mauled

      ppl tend to forget that not only zerk makes you take more damage zerk auras and full book to and probly some other things i forget. necro ppl have a good life where they can afk and never eat lol.

    Just gonna point out no best rotation on a boss uses EZK in a EOF. its simply not worth it over hybrid etc.

    EOF needs to be fixed why do people need 30 EOFs just do what Osrs does use older bis armor or weapons and have the new boss drop a item that is tradebale but you’d need to also own idk lets say bow of the gods zammy drops a godly bowstring and you combine with the SGB another godbow and create THE BOW of the GODS! I think it would fix this inflation from outside gold coming in more often then people are making gold in game. There’s a huge issue here no one is talking about and I haven’t even touched the TH crap this week. Also switching to the osrs method would in turn make older bosses better to kill because those older bis weapons will be NEEDED not ehhh im super rich or im not that rich what do i throw into a EOF for the weapons special lol. EOFs should hold up to 5 weapons allowing you to open a interface to swap between those 5 after that then you’d either totally delete the ones you had by adding more or some people will only need 2. I think bonds are a huge indication that the game is obviously in need of some help from jagex. And you kinda hit on what I was saying and it’s sad the fixes are super simple but we know jagex or their overlords only want new shinny content that has 0 depth to pull players back to spend money on membership or TH which is sad.

    Regarding the hitcap, I think it's fine for some abilities to consistently hover near the hitcap or somewhat over. The goal is to make things more consistent (and less dependent on exactly how high you hit with berserk chaos roar overpower), without being overly restrictive. 10k was definitely too low, but I think 30k is fine.

      Range is much better, safe spotting etc, and u don't get a crazy def cut like mele when using yer ult o/r splitsoul spec. Mele is squishy and it's nonsense.

    The way the EOF works buy destroying ur item so so fucking stupid. I can get destroying items under 5m or something, but when it gets to items 1b+..... WTF
